The Book of the Prophet Isaiah 22
Prophetic Picture of the Siege of Jerusalem
The burden of the valley of vision. What ails you now, that you have ascended thus to the housetops?
You city full of shouts, you tumultuous city, you city that rejoices with joy; your slain are not slain by the sword, nor died in battle.
All your princes have fled together; they have been bound by the archers; all who were found in you have been bound together and fled far away.
Therefore I say, "Look away from me, that I may weep bitterly; do not weary yourselves any longer in comforting me for the destruction of the daughter of my people."
For it is a day of tumult, and of shame, and of confusion, from the Lord GOD of hosts, in the valley of vision; a breaking down of walls, and a cry to the mountains.
For Elam has taken the quiver, with chariots of men and horsemen; and Kir bares the shields.
And your most beautiful valleys will be filled with chariots, and horsemen will be arrayed at the gates.
And the covering will be taken away from Judah, and in that day you will look at the armor of the house of the forest.
And you will see the breaches of the city of David, for they are many, and you will gather together the waters of the lower pool.
You will also number the houses of Jerusalem, and you will tear down the houses to fortify the walls.
You also made a reservoir between the two walls for the waters of the old pool, but you did not look up to what he had done, nor consider what he had formed of old.
And the Lord, the LORD of hosts, will call you in that day to weeping and to mourning, to shaving your heads and to girding sackcloth.
But behold, joy and gladness are here; they kill oxen and slaughter sheep, they eat flesh and drink wine, and they say, 'Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die.'
But the Lord of hosts spoke in my ears, saying, 'Surely this iniquity will not be atoned for until you die,' declares the Lord God of hosts.
