II Samuel 16 David is tricked by Ziba and cursed by Shimei

 II Samuel 16

David is tricked by Ziba and cursed by Shimei

And when David passed a little beyond the top, behold, Ziba the servant of Mephibosheth came to meet him, with a pair of asses saddled, and on them two hundred loaves, with a hundred bunches of raisins, and a hundred of fruit. of summer and a skin of wine.

And the king said to Ziba, What do you mean by this? And Ziba said, The asses are for the king's house, to ride on them; and summer bread and fruit for the young men to eat; and wine to drink for the weary in the wilderness.

And the king said, Where then is thy lord's son? And Ziba said to the king, Behold, he is left in Jerusalem; for he said, Today the house of Israel will restore to me the kingdom of my father.

Then the king said to Ziba, Behold, all that Mephibosheth has is thine. And Ziba said: I bow that I find grace in thy eyes, O my lord king.

And when king David came to Baurim, behold, there came out a man of the lineage of the house of Saul, whose name was Shimei the son of Gera, and he went out cursing.

And he stoned David with stones, and all the servants of king David: though all the people and all the mighty men went to his right and to his left.

And when Shimei cursed him, he said thus: Come out, come out, man of blood, and man of Belial:

The Lord of thy now payeth all the blood of the house of Saul, in whose stead thou hast reigned; the LORD hath given the kingdom into the hand of your son Absalom; and now, behold, thou art in thy disgrace, for thou art a man of blood.

And Abishai the son of Zeruiah said to the king, Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king? Let me through, and I'll take your head off.

But the king said, What have I to do with you, O sons of Zeruiah? Now let him curse; for the LORD said unto him, Curse David; who then would say, Why have you done so?

And David said moreover to Abishai, and to all his servants, Behold, my son, which came out of my bowels, seeketh my death: how much more shall this son of Jemini? Leave him, let him curse; because the Lord told him.

Perhaps the LORD will look upon my wretchedness: and the LORD will repay me well for his curse of this day.

So David and his men went on their way: and Shimei also went along the mountain opposite him, walking and cursing, and throwing stones at him, and raising dust.

And the king and all the people that went with him arrived tired, and refreshed themselves there.
