II Samuel 09 David's kindness to Jonathan's son

 II Samuel 09

David's kindness to Jonathan's son

And David said, Is there still anyone left of the house of Saul, that he may do him good for Jonathan's sake?

And there was a servant in the house of Saul, whose name was Ziba: and they called him to come unto David, and the king said unto him, Art thou Ziba? And he said: Your servant.

And the king said, Is there not yet one of the house of Saul, that he should use him for the beneficence of God? And Ziba said unto the king, There is yet a son of Jonathan, crippled in both of his feet.

And the king said to him, Where is he? And Ziba said unto the king, Behold, he is in the house of Machir the son of Ammiel, in Lodebar.

Then king David sent, and took him out of the house of Machir the son of Ammiel, from Lo-debar.

And when Mephibosheth the son of Jonathan the son of Saul came to David, he fell on his face to the ground, and bowed down; and David said, Mephibosheth! And he said, Here is your servant.

And David said to him, Fear not, for I will surely give thee kindness for Jonathan thy father's sake, and I will restore to thee all the lands of thy father Saul, and thou shalt always eat bread at my table.

Then he bowed down, and said, Who is your servant, that you should have looked upon a dead dog like me?

Then David called Ziba Saul's young man, and said to him, All that belonged to Saul, and to all his house, I have given to thy master's son.

And thou shalt work the land for him, thou and thy sons and thy servants, and shalt gather the fruits, that thy lord's son may have bread that he may eat; and Mephibosheth, your lord's son, shall continually eat bread at my table. And Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty servants.

And Ziba said unto the king, According to all that my lord the king commandeth his servant, so shall thy servant do; but Mephibosheth shall eat at my table like one of the king's sons.

And Mephibosheth had a little son, whose name was Micah: and all that dwelt in the house of Ziba were servants of Mephibosheth.

So Mephibosheth dwelt in Jerusalem, because he ate continually at the king's table, and was lame in both feet.
