2 Samuel 13 Ammon loves Tamar and commits incest

 2 Samuel 13

Ammon loves Tamar and commits incest

1 And it came to pass after this, that when Absalom the son of David had a beautiful sister, whose name was Tamar, Ammon the son of David loved her.

2 And Amon was distressed, until he was sick, for Tamar, her sister, because she was a virgin: and it seemed in the eyes of Amon it was difficult to do anything to her.

3 But Amon had a friend, whose name was Jonadab the son of Shimea, the brother of David: and Jonadab was a very sagacious man.

4 Who said to him, Why do you grow thin every morning, being the king's son? will you not let me know? And Amon said to him, I love Tamar, the sister of my brother Absalom,

5 And Jonadab said to him, Lie down on your bed, and pretend to be sick: and when your father comes to visit you, say to him, I pray thee, my sister Tamar, come, and feed me bread, and prepare food before my eyes, that I may see it and eat it from your hand.

6 So Amon lay down, and pretended to be sick; and when the king came to visit him, Amon said to the king, I pray thee, let my sister Tamar come, and prepare two cakes before my eyes, that I may eat from her hand.

7 Then David sent home to Tamar, saying, Go to the house of Amon your brother, and make him some food.

8 And Tamar went to the house of Amon her brother (but he was lying down), and took dough, and kneaded it, and made cakes before their eyes, and baked the cakes.

9 And he took the pan, and brought them out before him; but he refused to eat. And Amon said, Bring them all out of my presence. And everyone withdrew from him.

10 Then said Amon to Tamar, Bring the food into the chamber, and I will eat it out of your hand. And Tamar took the cakes which she had made, and brought them to her brother Amon into the chamber.

11 And when he came to them, that he might eat, he took her, and said to her, Come, lie with me, my sister.

12 But she said to him, No, my brother, do not force me, for it is not so in Israel; do not do such madness.

13 For where would I go with my shame? And you would be like one of the fools of Israel. Now therefore, I beseech thee, speak to the king, for he will not deny me to thee.

14 But he would not listen to her voice; rather, being stronger than she, he forced her, and lay with her.

15 Then Amon annoyed her with great annoyance, because greater was the annoyance with which he hated than the love with which he had loved her. And Amon said to him, Arise and go.

16 Then she said to him: There is no reason for you to send me away like this; greater would this evil be than the one you have already done to me. But he would not listen to him.

17 And he called his servant who served him, and said, Cast this one out, and shut the door after her.

18 And she had on a garment of many colors (for that is how the virgin daughters of kings were dressed, with cloaks), and her servant threw it away, and closed the door after her.

19 Then Tamar took ashes on her head, and the garment of many colors that she was wearing tore: and she laid her hands on her head, and went walking and crying.

20 And Absalom her brother said to her, Was Amon your brother with you? Well of course; my sister, shut up; he is your brother. Let not your heart grieve over this. So was Tamar, and she was lonely in the house of Absalom her brother.

21 And when king David heard all these things, much was kindled in anger.

22 But Absalom did not speak to Amon, either bad or good; for Absalom hated Amon, because he forced his sister Tamar.
