II Samuel 08
David's victories over many nations
And it came to pass after this, that David smote the Philistines, and subdued them: and David took Meth-Gama out of the hand of the Philistines.
And he smote the Moabites, and measured them with a string, and made them lie down on the ground, and measured them with two strings to kill them, and with a whole string to make them alive: so the Moabites became servants of David, bringing gifts.
And David smote Hadadezer son of Rechob king of Zobah, and he turned his hand toward the river Euphrates.
And David took from him one thousand six hundred knights and twenty thousand men to stand: and David hocked all the horses of the chariots, and reserved for them a hundred chariots.
And the Syrians of Damascus came to the aid of Hadadezer king of Zobah: but David smote the Syrians twenty and two thousand men.
And David set garrisons in Syria of Damascus, and the Syrians were servants of David, bearing gifts: and the LORD guarded David whithersoever he went.
And David took the shields of gold that were with the servants of Hadadezer, and brought them to Jerusalem.
King David also took a very large quantity of bronze from Betah and from Berotai, the cities of Hadadezer.
And when Toi king of Hamath heard, that David had smitten all the army of Hadadezer.
And Tohi his son Joram sent unto king David, to inquire of him how he was, and to congratulate him for having fought against Hadadezer, and having smitten them (for Hadadezer was continually making war with Toi); and in his hand he had vessels of silver, and vessels of gold, and vessels of bronze.
Which king David also consecrated to the Lord, together with the silver and gold which he had already consecrated from all the nations which he had subdued.
Of Syria, and of Moab, and of the children of Ammon, and of the Philistines, and of Amalek, and of the spoil of Hadadezer, son of Rechob, king of Zobah.
David also gained a name, when he returned from smiting the Syrians in the valley of Salt, namely, to eighteen thousand.
And he set garrisons in Edom, throughout all Edom he set garrisons, and all the Idumeans became servants of David: and the Lord helped David wherever he went.
So David reigned over all Israel: and David judged and did justice to all his people.
And Joab the son of Zeruiah was over the army; and Jehoshaphat, son of Ailud, was a chronicler,
And Zadok the son of Ahitub, and Achimelech the son of Abiathar, were priests, and seraiah the scribe.
And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was with the Cherethites and the Pelethites: but the sons of David were princes.
