II Chronicles 06
Solomon's Prayer
And he stood before the altar of the LORD, in front of the whole assembly of Israel, and spread out his hands.
For Solomon had made a bronze stand, five cubits wide and three cubits high, and had set it in the middle of the court. And he stood on it and knelt down in the presence of the whole assembly of Israel, and spread out his hands toward heaven.
And he said, O LORD God of Israel, there is no God like you, in heaven or on earth, who keeps covenant and lovingkindness with your servants who walk before you with all their heart;
Who hast kept for your servant David my father that which you promised him: for you spoke it with your mouth, and have fulfilled it with your hand, as it is this day.
Now, O Lord, God of Israel, keep for your servant David my father what you have promised, saying, ‘You will never fail to have a man sit before me on the throne of Israel; only let your children take heed to their ways by walking in my law, as you have walked before me.’
And now, O Lord, God of Israel, let your word come true, which you spoke to your servant David.
But will God truly dwell with men on the earth? Behold, heaven and the highest heavens cannot contain you; how much less this house that I have built?
Now, O Lord my God, have regard to the prayer of your servant and to the supplication that your servant prays before you.
May your eyes be open day and night toward this place, which you said you would put your name there, to hear the prayer that your servant prays toward this place.
Hear therefore the supplications of your servant and of your people Israel, which they make in this place; and hear from your dwelling place, from heaven; hear and forgive.
When a man sins against his neighbor and lays a curse on him to curse himself, and the curse comes before your altar in this house,
then hear from heaven, and act and judge your servants, repaying the wicked by bringing his way on his own head, and justifying the righteous by giving him according to his righteousness.
When your people Israel are defeated before the enemy because they have sinned against you, and they turn and confess your name, and pray and make supplication before you in this house,
then hear from heaven and forgive the sins of your people Israel, and bring them back to the land which you gave to them and to their fathers.
When the heavens are shut up, and there is no rain, because they have sinned against you, and they pray toward this place, and confess your name, and turn from their sin, when you afflict them,
Then hear from heaven, and forgive the sin of your servants, and of your people Israel, that you may teach them the good way in which they should walk; and send rain upon your land, which you have given to your people as an inheritance.
When there is famine in the land, or pestilence, or blight, or mildew, or locusts, or caterpillars, or one of its enemies besieges it in the lands near its gates, or when there is any plague or any disease,
Every prayer and every supplication that any man makes, or all Your people Israel, knowing each one his plague and his pain, and stretching out their hands toward this house,
Then You will come from heaven, from Your dwelling place, and forgive and give to each man according to all his ways, according as You know his heart (for You, even You alone, know the hearts of the children of men),
That they may fear You, to walk in Your ways as long as they live in the land that You gave to our fathers.
Likewise, when a foreigner is not of your people Israel, but comes from a far country for the sake of your great name, your mighty hand and your outstretched arm, and comes and prays in this house,
then hear from heaven, from your dwelling place, and do according to all that the foreigner asks of you, so that all the peoples of the earth may know your name and fear you, as your people Israel do, and that they may know that this house that I have built is called by your name.
When your people go out to war against their enemies, by the way that you send them, and they pray to you toward this city that you have chosen and the house that I have built for your name,
then hear from heaven their prayer and their supplication, and maintain their cause.
When they sin against you (for there is no man who does not sin), and you are angry with them and hand them over to the enemy, so that their captors may carry them away captive to a land far away or near,
and they return to themselves in the land where they were carried away captive and make supplication to you in the land of their captivity, saying, “We have sinned, we have done wickedly, we have acted wickedly,”
and they return to you with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their captivity, where they have carried them captive, and they pray toward their land that you gave to their fathers, and toward the city that you have chosen, and toward the house that I have built for your name,
Then hear from heaven, from your dwelling place, their prayer and their supplications, and maintain their justice, and forgive your people who have sinned against you.
Now, O my God, let your eyes be open and your ears attentive to the prayer of this place.
Now therefore, O Lord God, arise into your resting place, you and the ark of your strength; let your priests, O Lord God, be clothed with salvation, and let your saints rejoice in goodness.
Oh, O Lord God, do not turn away your face from your anointed one; remember the mercies of David your servant.
