The Book of the Prophet Ezekiel 47
The Torrent of Purifying Waters
After this he brought me back to the entrance of the house, and behold, water was flowing from under the threshold of the house. I looked eastward, and the water was flowing from under the right side of the house, south of the altar.
Then he brought me out by way of the north gate and led me around on the outside to the outer gate that faces east. And behold, water was flowing from the right side.
The man went out eastward with a measuring line in his hand. He measured a thousand cubits and made me wade through the water, which came up to my ankles.
He measured another thousand cubits and made me wade through the water, which came up to my knees. He measured another thousand cubits and made me wade through the water, which came up to my waist.
He measured another thousand, and it was a river that I could not cross, for the water was deep, water that one had to swim in, a river that could not be crossed.
He said to me, “Son of man, have you seen this?” Then he led me and brought me back to the bank of the river.
When I returned, I saw a great number of trees on both sides of the river.
He said to me, “These waters flow toward the eastern region and go down into the plain and enter the sea. When they reach the sea, the waters will become fresh.
Wherever these two rivers flow, every living creature that moves will live, and there will be large numbers of fish. These waters will flow there and make everything fresh, so that wherever the river flows, everything will live.
Fishermen will stand along the river; From Engedi to En-Eglaim, there will be places for spreading nets; its fish, according to their kinds, will be like the fish of the Great Sea, in exceeding abundance.
But its swamps and its marshes will not be healed; they will be left for salt.
And by the river, on its bank, on this side and on that side, will grow all kinds of trees that bear fruit for food; their leaves will not wither, nor will their fruit perish; in their months they will bear new fruit, because their waters flow from the sanctuary; and their fruit will serve as food and their leaves as medicine.
