The Book of the Prophet Ezekiel 43 The Restoration of the Temple: The Altar of Burnt Offerings

The Book of the Prophet Ezekiel 43

The Restoration of the Temple: The Altar of Burnt Offerings

Son of man, show the house of Israel this house, so that they may be ashamed of their iniquities; let it serve as a model for them.

And when they are ashamed of all that they have done, make them know the form of this house, and its design, its exits and its entrances, and all its forms, and all its statutes, all its forms, and all its laws; and write this before their eyes, so that they may observe all its form and all its statutes and do them.

This is the law of the house: On the top of the mountain all its perimeter around it shall be most holy; behold, this is the law of the house.

These are the measurements of the altar, in cubits (a cubit is a cubit and a span): The lower part shall be one cubit high and one cubit wide, and its rim, all around, one span; this is the base of the altar.

From the bottom, from the ground to the lower stripe, two cubits, and one cubit wide; from the smaller stripe to the larger stripe, four cubits, and one cubit wide.

The Hariel shall be four cubits; and from the Ariel to the top there were four horns.

The Ariel shall be twelve cubits long and twelve cubits wide, square on all four sides.

The stripe shall be fourteen cubits long and fourteen cubits wide on all four sides; and the border around it shall be half a cubit; and its base was a cubit all around, and its steps faced east.

Then he said to me, “Son of man, this is what the Sovereign Lord says: These are the regulations for the altar on the day it is built, for offering burnt offerings on it and for sprinkling blood on it.

To the Levitical priests, descendants of Zadok, who come near to me to minister to me, declares the Sovereign Lord, you are to give a young bull as a sin offering.

Take some of its blood and put it on its four corners and on the four corners of the altar and around it; this is how you are to make atonement for it.

Then take the bull as a sin offering and burn it in a place within the temple that has been appointed for it, outside the sanctuary.

On the second day you shall offer a male goat without blemish as a sin offering, and they shall purify the altar as they purified it with the bull.

When you have finished purifying it, you shall offer a bull without blemish and a ram from the flock without blemish.

You shall offer them before the Lord, and the priests shall sprinkle salt on them and offer them as a burnt offering to the Lord.

For seven days you shall prepare a male goat for a sin offering each day, and they shall also prepare a bull and a ram from the flock without blemish.

For seven days they shall make atonement for the altar and purify it, and thus consecrate it.

When they have fulfilled these days, on the eighth day and from then on the priests shall offer your burnt offerings and your peace offerings on the altar, and I will accept you, declares the Lord God.
