The Book of the Prophet Ezekiel 28
Prophecy against the King of Tyre
The word of the Lord came to me:
Son of man, say to the prince of Tyre, “This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Because your heart is so proud, and you say, ‘I am a god; I sit enthroned as a god in the depths of the sea,’ though you are a mere mortal and not God, and you set your mind on being like God,
Behold, you are wiser than Daniel; there is no secret that can be hidden from you.
By your wisdom and understanding you have gained wealth and acquired gold and silver for your treasuries.
By the greatness of your wisdom in your trade you have increased your wealth, and your heart is so proud because of your wealth,
Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: Because you set your mind on being like God,
Behold, I will bring strangers upon you, the most formidable of the nations, who shall draw their swords against the beauty of your wisdom, and shall tarnish your splendor.
They shall bring you down to the pit, and you shall die the death of those slain in the midst of the seas.
Will you still say before him who kills you, ‘I am God’? But you are a man, and not God, in the hand of him who pierces you.
You shall die the death of the uncircumcised by the hand of strangers; for I have spoken it, says the Lord God.
