Kings 09 The Tax That Solomon Imposed

Kings 09

The Tax That Solomon Imposed

- And this is the cause of the tax that king Solomon imposed, to build the house of the Lord, and his house, and Millo, and the wall of Jerusalem, and Hazor, and Megiddo, and Gezer.

- For Pharaoh king of Egypt went up and took Gezer, and burned it with fire, and slew the Canaanites that dwelt in the city, and gave it as a dowry to his daughter, Solomon's wife.

- So Solomon built Gezer, and Beth-horon the lower,

- And Baalath, and Tadmor, in the wilderness of that land,

- And all the cities of store that Solomon had, and the cities for chariots, and the cities for horsemen, and that which Solomon desired to build in Jerusalem, and in Lebanon, and in all the land of his dominion.

- As for all the people who were left of the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites, who were not of the children of Israel, 21- Their children who remained after them in the land, whom the children of Israel could not utterly destroy, Solomon reduced to servitude to this day. 22- However, Solomon did not make any of the children of Israel slaves; only they were men of war, and their servants, and their princes, and their captains, and commanders of the chariots and horsemen. 23- These were the chief officers who were over Solomon's work, five hundred and fifty, who gave orders to the people who worked on the work. 24- But Pharaoh's daughter went up from the city of David to the house that Solomon had built for her; and she built Millo. 25- And Solomon offered burnt offerings and peace offerings three times a year on the altar which they had built unto the LORD, and burned incense upon that which was before the LORD: and so he finished the house. 26- And King Solomon made ships at Ezion-geber, which is beside Eloth, on the shore of the Sea of Suph, in the land of Edom. 27- And Hiram sent in the ships his servants, shipmen that had knowledge of the sea, with the servants of Solomon. 28- And they came to Ophir, and took from there four hundred and twenty talents of gold, and brought it to King Solomon.
