Joshua arrests the five kings and kills them
But those five kings fled and hid in a pit in Makkedah.
And it was told Joshua, saying, The five kings are hidden in a pit in Makkedah.
And Joshua said, Cast great stones into the mouth of the pit, and set men on it to guard them.
But do not stop; follow your enemies, and strike those who are behind you: do not let them into their cities, for the LORD your God has given you your hand.
And it came to pass, when Joshua and the children of Israel had finished, from striking them the great wound, until they had consumed them, and those that were left of them withdrew to the strong cities;
And all the people turned to Joshua in peace at the camp in Makkedah: there was none that moved their tongue against the children of Israel.
And Joshua said, Open the mouth of the pit, and bring me those five kings out of the pit.
And they did so, and brought them five kings out of the pit: the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jamute, the king of Lachish, and the king of Eglon.
And it came to pass, as he brought those kings to Joshua, that Joshua called all the men of Israel, and said unto the captains of the warriors, that with them were they come, Come and lay your feet upon the necks of these kings. And they came and set their feet on their necks.
And Joshua said unto them, Fear not, and be not afraid: work hard, and cheer up; For the LORD will do so to all your enemies against whom you fight.
And after this Joshua smote them, and slew them, and hung them upon five timber: and they hanged themselves in the woods until the evening.
And it came to pass at the time of sundown, that Joshua commanded them to take them out of the wood: and they cast them into the pit where they hid themselves: and they put great stones in the mouth of the pit, which are yet there unto the same day. of today.
