Joshua 08 Woe is taken and destroyed

Joshua 08
Woe is taken and destroyed
And the LORD said unto Joshua, Fear not, and be not afraid: take all the warriors with thee, and arise, go up to Ai: look, I have given into thy hand the king of Ai, and his people; and its city and its land.
And thou shalt do to Ai and her king, as thou hast done to Jericho and her king: except that ye shall plunder her spoil and her cattle: and lay in ambush the city behind her.
And Joshua arose, and all his warriors, to go up against Ai: and Joshua chose thirty thousand mighty and mighty men, and sent them in the night;
And he commanded them, saying, Behold, ye shall lie in wait behind the city for the city; do not be far from the city, and you will all be aware.
But I and all the people who are with me will draw near to the city: and when they come to meet us, as before, we will flee before them.
Let them go after us, until we take them out of the city, for they shall say, They flee before us as before. So we will flee before them.
And you shall go out of the ambush, and take the city: for the LORD your God shall give it into your hand.
And it shall come to pass, that as ye take the city, ye shall set the city fire; according to the word of the LORD you shall do; Look that I have sent you.
So Joshua sent them, and they went in ambush, and stayed between Bethel and Ai, on the west side of Ai; But Joshua spent that night among the people.
And Joshua rose early in the morning, and numbered the people, and they and the elders of Israel came up before the people against Ai.
And all the men of war that were with him went up, and came near, and came in front of the city: and they lodged with the north side of Ai; and there was a valley between him and Ai.
And he took some five thousand men, and set them in ambush between Bethel and Ai, on the west side of the city.
And they set the people, all the camp that was on the north side of the city, and their ambush on the west side of the city: and Joshua went that night into the midst of the valley.
And it came to pass, when the king of Ai saw him, that they hastened, and rose early in the morning, and the men of the city went out against Israel to fight against him, and all his people, at the appointed time, before the plains: because he did not know that if he had been ambushed behind the city.
And Joshua and all Israel were wounded before them, and fled by the way of the wilderness.
And all the people that were in the city were called to follow them: and they followed Joshua, and were drawn from the city.
And not a man remained in Ai, nor at Bethel, that went not out after Israel: and they left the city open, and followed Israel.
And Jehovah said unto Joshua, Stretch forth the spear that thou hast in thine hand into Ai, for I will give it into thy hand. And Joshua stretched out the spear that was in his hand toward the city.
Then the ambush arose from his place in haste, and they ran, and stretched out his hand, and came into the city, and took it: and they hurried, and set the city on fire.
And when the men of Ai turned back, they looked, and, behold, the smoke of the city ascended into heaven, and they had no place to flee either: for the people that fled into the wilderness were turned against them. those who followed.
And when Joshua and all Israel saw that the ambush had taken the city, and the smoke of the city ascended, they returned, and smote the men of Ai.
And those of the city went out to meet them, and so they were in the midst of the Israelites, one on the other, and on the other: and they smote them, until none of them remained, that they might escape.
But they took the king of Ai alive, and brought him to Joshua.
And it came to pass, when the Israelites had finished slaying all the inhabitants of Ai in the field, in the wilderness where they had followed them, and all had fallen by the edge of the sword until all were consumed, then all Israel became Ai, and set it in pieces. sword edge.
And all that fell that day, both men and women, were twelve thousand: all the inhabitants of Ai.
For Joshua did not withdraw his hand, which stretched out his spear, until he utterly destroyed all the inhabitants of Ai.
Only the Israelites plundered for themselves the cattle and the spoil of the city, according to the word of the LORD which he commanded Joshua.
And Joshua burned Ai, and made it a perpetual heap in desolation unto this day.
And the king of Ai hanged on a tree until the evening: and when the sun went down, Joshua commanded his body to be taken out of the tree; And they cast him out of the gate of the city, and lifted up upon him a great heap of stones unto this day.
