Joshua 06
Jericho is destroyed; Rahab is saved
Now Jericho was shut up, and shut up because of the children of Israel; none left or entered.
And Jehovah said unto Joshua, See, I have given into thy hand Jericho and his king, his mighty and mighty men.
And you, all men of war, shall surround the city, surrounding the city once; So you will do for six days.
And seven priests shall bear seven horns of rams before the ark, and on the seventh day ye shall surround the city seven times: and the priests shall sound the trumpets.
And it shall come to pass, when a ram's horn is sounded long, and ye shall hear the sound of the horn, all the people shall cry with a great shout, and the wall of the city shall fall; below, and the people shall ascend in him, each in front of him.
And Joshua the son of Nun called the priests, and said unto them, Take up the ark of the covenant; and seven priests bear seven horns of rams before the ark of the LORD.
And he said unto the people, Go through and round the city; and whoever is armed, pass before the ark of the Lord.
And it was so, as Joshua said to the people, that the seven priests carried the seven horns; And they went out of the sheep before the LORD, and blew the trumpets. and the ark of the covenant of the Lord followed them.
And the armed went before the priests who blew the trumpets: and the rear guard went after the ark, walking and blowing the trumpets.
And Joshua had commanded the people, saying, Ye shall not cry, neither shall you hear your voice, nor shall any word come out of your mouth, until the day that I say unto you, Shout. Then you will shout.
And he made the ark of Yahweh surround the city, once around it: and they came to the camp, and spent the night in the camp.
And Joshua rose early in the morning, and the priests took up the ark of the LORD.
And the seven priests who carried the seven rams' horns before the ark of the Lord walked and blew their horns. and the armed went before them, and the rear guard followed the ark of the LORD; the priests walked and blew their horns.
So they went around the city again on the second day, and returned to the camp: and they did so six days.
And it came to pass on the seventh day, that they rose early in the morning, that they went about the city seven times: and they surrounded the city seven times that day.
And it came to pass at the seventh time, when the priests blew the trumpets, Joshua said unto the people, Shout; For the Lord has given you the city.
But the city shall be anathema unto the LORD, she and all that is therein: only the harlot Rahab shall live, she and all that are with her in the house; because he hid the messengers that we sent.
Only keep yourselves from anathema, that ye be not anathema, taking of it, and thus make the camp of Israel to be cursed, and to shame it.
But all the silver, and gold, and vessels of metal, and of iron, are consecrated unto the LORD: they shall go into the treasury of the LORD.
Then the people shouted, and the priests blew the trumpets: and it came to pass, when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, that the people shouted with a great shout; and the wall fell down, and the people went up into the city, each in front of it, and took the city.
And all that was in the city they utterly destroyed with the edge of the sword, from man to woman, from boy to old man, unto ox and small cattle, and the ass.
And Joshua said unto the two men that had spied the land, Go into the house of the harlot, and bring out the wife with all that she hath, as ye have sworn to her.
Then came the young spies, and brought out Rahab, and his father, and his mother, and his brethren, and all that he had; and they took all their families, and brought them out of the camp of Israel.
But the city and all that was in it burned with fire: only silver and gold, and vessels of metal and iron, they gave to the treasury of the house of the Lord.
And Joshua gave life to the harlot Rahab, and his father's family, and all that he had; and he dwelt in the midst of Israel unto this day: because he hid the messengers whom Joshua sent to spy out Jericho.
And Joshua hid them at that time, saying, Cursed before the LORD, let a man rise up to build this city of Jericho; and he shall lose his firstborn, and shall found it upon his younger son.
Thus was the LORD with Joshua; and his fame was in all the land.
