12 तब नेर का पुत्र अब्नेर शाऊल के पुत्र ईशबोशेत के कर्मचारियोंके संग महनैम से गिबोन को गया।

13 और सरूयाह का पुत्र योआब और दाऊद के कर्मचारी निकलकर गिबोन के कुण्ड के पास एक दूसरे से मिले; और ये लोग ताल की इस अलंग पर, और अन्य ताल के उस पार खड़े रहे।

14 तब अब्नेर ने योआब से कहा, जवानोंको उठकर हमारे साम्हने खेलने दो। योआब ने कहा, उठ।

13 And Joab the son of Zeruiah and the servants of David went out and met one another by the pool of Gibeon: and these stood on this side of the pool, and the others on that side of the pool.

14 And Abner said to Joab, Let the young men lift up, and let them play before us. And Joab said, Arise.

15 And they rose up and passed over by account twelve of Benjamin, from Ishbosheth the son of Saul, and twelve of the servants of David.

16 And each one took hold of the other's head, thrust a sword into his side, and they fell together: whence was the name of that place Helkath-hazurim which is by Gibeon.

17 And a bitter battle ensued that day: but Abner and the men of Israel were smitten before the servants of David.

18 And there were the three sons of Zeruiah, Joab, Abishai, and Asahel; and Asael was light of foot, like one of the wild goats in the field.

19 And Asael followed after Abner: and he declined from behind Abner, neither to the right nor to the left.

20 And Abner, looking back, said, Art thou Asael? And he said: I am.

21 And Abner said to him, Turn to the right, or to the left, and take hold of one of the young men, and take his spoil. But Asael did not want to deviate from behind him.

22 Then Abner said again to Asael, Turn away from behind me; why should I hurt you and find myself on the ground? and how would I lift up my face before your brother Joab?

23 But if he would not go astray, Abner smote him with the length of the spear through the fifth rib, and the spear went out from behind him, and he fell there, and died in that very place: and it came to pass that all that came to the place where Asael he fell and died, they stopped.

24 But Joab and Abishai followed after Abner; and the sun went down, and they came to the hill of Ama, which is before Giah, by the way of the desert of Gibeon.

25 And the children of Benjamin gathered themselves together behind Abner, and made a battalion, and stood on the top of the hill.

26 Then Abner cried to Joab, and said, Shall he consume the sword for ever? do you not know that at last there will be bitterness? and how long will you not tell the people to stop following their brethren?

27 And Joab said, As God lives, if he had not spoken from the morning, the people would have ceased every one from following his brother.

28 Then Joab blew the horn, and all the people stood still, and pursued Israel no more: and fought no more.

29 And Abner and his men walked all that night on the plain; and passing over Jordan, they walked through all Bithron, and came to Mahanaim.

30 And Joab turned back from following Abner, and gathered all the people together: and the servants of David lacked nineteen men and Asahel.

31 But David's servants slew from among Benjamin, and from among the men of Abner, three hundred and sixty men, who were slain there.

32 And they raised up Asahel, and buried him in the tomb of his father which was in Bethlehem: and Joab and his men walked all that night, and it dawned upon them in Hebron.

15  Então se levantaram e passaram, por conta, doze de Benjamim, da parte de Isbosete, filho de Saul, e doze dos servos de Davi.

16 E cada um lançou mão da cabeça do outro, meteu-lhe a espada pela ilharga, e caíram juntamente: donde se chamou àquele lugar Helcate-Hazurim que está junto a Gibeom.

17 E seguiu-se naquele dia uma crua peleja: porém Abner e os homens de Israel foram feridos diante dos servos de Davi.

18 E estavam ali os três filhos de Zeruia, Joabe, Abisai, e Asael; e Asael era ligeiro de pés, como uma das cabras monteses que há no campo.

19 E Asael seguiu após Abner: e não declinou de detrás de Abner, nem para a direita nem para a esquerda.

20 E Abner, olhando para trás, disse: És tu Asael? E disse ele: Eu sou.

21 Então lhe disse Abner: Desvia-te para a direita, ou para a esquerda e lança mão de um dos mancebos, e toma os seus despojos. Porém Asael não quis desviar-se de detrás dele.

22 Então Abner tornou a dizer a Asael: Desvia-te de detrás de mim; por que hei de eu ferir-te e dar comigo em terra? e como levantaria eu o meu rosto diante de Joabe teu irmão?

23 Porém, não se querendo ele desviar, Abner o feriu com o conto da lança pela quinta costela, e a lança lhe saiu por detrás, e caiu ali, e morreu naquele mesmo lugar: e sucedeu que todos os que chegavam ao lugar onde Asael caiu e morreu, paravam.

24 Porém Joabe e Abisai seguiram após Abner; e pôs-se o sol, chegando eles ao outeiro de Amá, que esta diante de Giá, junto ao caminho do deserto de Gibeom.

25 E os filhos de Benjamim se ajuntaram detrás de Abner, e fizeram um batalhão, e puseram-se no cume do outeiro.

26 Então Abner gritou a Joabe, e disse: Consumirá a espada para sempre? não sabes tu que por fim haverá amargura? e até quando não hás de dizer ao povo que deixe de seguir a seus irmãos?

27 E disse Joabe: Vive Deus, que, se não tivesse falado já desde pela manhã o povo teria cessado cada um de seguir a seu irmão.

28 Então Joabe tocou a buzina, e todo o povo parou, e não perseguiram mais a Israel: e tão pouco pelejaram mais.

29 E caminharam Abner e os seus homens toda aquela noite pela planície; e, passando o Jordão, caminharam por todo o Bitrom, e vieram a Maanaim.

30 Também Joabe se tornou de seguir Abner, e ajuntou todo o povo: e dos servos de Davi faltaram dezenove homens e Asael.

31 Porém os servos de Davi feriram dentre os de Benjamim, e dentre os homens de Abner, a trezentos e sessenta homens, que ali ficaram mortos.

32 E levantaram a Asael, e sepultaram-no na sepultura de seu pai, que estava em Belém: e Joabe e seus homens caminharam toda aquela noite, e amanheceu-lhes em Hebrom.

1 E houve uma longa guerra entre a casa de Saul e a casa de Davi: porém Davi se ia fortalecendo, mas os da casa de Saul se ia enfraquecendo.

11 And it was the number of days that David reigned in Hebron over the house of Judah, seven years and six months.

1 And it came to pass after this that David inquired of the LORD, saying, Shall I go up to any of the cities of Judah? And the Lord said to him, Go up. And David said, Where shall I go up? And he said: To Hebron.

2 And David went up thither, and also his two wives, Aquinoan the Jezreelite, and Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite.

3 And David also brought up the men that were with him, each one with his family: and they dwelt in the cities of Hebron.

4 Then came the men of Judah, and anointed David king over the house of Judah there. And they warned David, saying, The men of Jabesh of Gilead are they that buried Saul.

5 Then David sent messengers to the men of Jabesh of Gilead, and said to them, Blessed be ye of the LORD, that ye have done such kindness unto your lord Saul, and have buried him!

21 Ye mountains of Gilboa, neither dew nor rain fall on you, nor on you heaves of offering, for woe the shield of the mighty, the shield of Saul, was cast down contemptibly, as though it had not been anointed with oil.

1 And it came to pass after the death of Saul, that David returned from the defeat of the Amalekites, and David stayed two days in Sheklag,

2 It came to pass on the third day, that, behold, a man came from the camp of Saul with ragged garments and with earth on his head; and it came to pass that when he came to David, he threw himself down on the ground, and bowed down.

3 And David said to him, Where do you come from? And he said to him: I escaped from the army of Israel.

4 And David said to him, How was it there? I beg you, tell me. And he answered him, The people fled from the battle, and many of the people fell and died, and Saul and Jonathan his son were slain.

5 And David said to the young man that brought him the tidings, How do you know that Saul and Jonathan his son are slain?

6 Then said the young man that told him, I came by chance to the mountain of Gilboa, and, behold, Saul was leaning on his spear, and, behold, chariots and captains of cavalry were pressing with him.

7 And when he looked behind him, he saw me, and called me; and I said: Here I am.

8 And he said to me: Who are you? And I told him: I am Amalekite.

9 Then he said unto me, I pray thee, fall upon me, and kill me, for troubles hath besieged me, for all my life is still in me.

10 So I hurled myself upon him, and slew him, for I knew well that I would not live after his fall, and I took the crown on his head, and the shackle that he wore on his arm, and brought them here to my lord.

11 So David took their garments and tore them, and all the men who were with him.

12 And they wept, and wept, and fasted until the evening for Saul, and for Jonathan his son, and for the people of the LORD, and for the house of Israel, because the sword had fallen.

13 Then David said to the young man who had brought him the news, Whence art thou? And he said: I am the son of a foreign man, Amalekite.

14 And David said unto him, How wast thou not afraid to stretch out your hand to slay the Lord's anointed?

15 Then David called one of the young men, and said, Come near, and fall upon him. And he hurt him, and he died.

16 And David said unto him, Thy blood be upon thy head, for thy own mouth hath testified against thee, saying, I have slain the anointed of the LORD.

1 E sucedeu, depois da morte de Saul, voltando Davi da derrota dos amalequitas, e ficando Davi dois dias  em Siclague,

2 Sucedeu,ao terceiro dia, que eis que um homem veio do arraial de Saul com os vestidos rotos e com terra sobre a cabeça; e sucedeu que chegando ele a Davi, se lançou no chão, e se inclinou.

3 E Davi lhe disse: Donde vens? E ele lhe disse: Escapei do exército de Israel.

4 E disse-lhe Davi: Como foi lá isso? Peço-te, dize-me. E ele lhe respondeu: O povo fugiu da batalha, e muitos do povo caíram e morreram, assim como também Saul e Jônatas, seu filho, foram mortos.

5 E disse Davi ao mancebo que lhe trazia as novas: Como sabes tu que Saul e Jônatas, seu filho, são mortos?

6 Então disse o mancebo que lhe dava a notícia: Cheguei por acaso à montanha de Gilboa, e eis que Saul estava encostado sobre a sua lança, e eis que carros e capitães de cavalaria apertavam com ele.

7 E, olhando ele para trás de si viu-me a mim, e chamou-me; e eu disse: Eis-me aqui.

8 E ele me disse: Quem és tu? E eu lhe disse: Sou amalequita.

9 Então ele me disse: Peço-te, arremessa-te sobre mim, e mata-me, porque angústias me tem cercado, pois toda a minha vida está ainda em mim.

10 Arremessei-me pois sobre ele, e o matei, porque bem sabia eu que não viveria depois de sua queda, e tomei a coroa que tinha na cabeça, e a manilha que trazia no braço, e as trouxe aqui a meu senhor.

11 Então apanhou Davi os seus vestidos, e os rasgou, como também todos os homens que estavam com ele.

12 E prantearam, e choraram, e jejuaram até à tarde por Saul, e por Jônatas, seu filho, e pelo povo do Senhor, e pela casa de Israel, porque tinham caído a espada.

13 Disse então Davi ao mancebo que lhe trouxera a nova: Donde és tu? E disse ele: Sou filho de um homem estrangeiro, amalequita.

14 E Davi lhe disse: Como não temeste tu estender a mão para matares ao ungido do Senhor?

15 Então chamou Davi a um dos mancebos, e disse: Chega, e lança-te sobre ele. E ele o feriu, e morreu.

16 E disse-lhe Davi: O teu sangue seja sobre a tua cabeça, porque a tua própria boca testificou contra ti, dizendo: Eu matei o ungido do Senhor.

The killing of the Israelites and the death of Saul

1 So the Philistines fought against Israel: and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell through the mountain of Gilboa.

2 And the Philistines pressed with Saul and his sons: and the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchishua the sons of Saul.

3 And the battle raged against Saul, and the archers overtook him; and he feared greatly because of the archers.

4 And Saul said to his page in arms, Pluck out thy sword, and pierce me with it, lest these uncircumcised come and pierce me and mock me. But his page-at-arms would not, because he feared greatly: so Saul took the sword, and fell upon it.

5 When his page in arms saw that Saul was slain, he also fell upon his sword, and died with him.

6 So Saul died, and his three sons, and his page in arms, and all his men also died together that day.

7 And when the men of Israel, that were on this side of the valley and on this side of the Jordan, saw that the men of Israel fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook the cities and fled; and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.

8 And it came to pass, when the Philistines came the other day to plunder the slain, that they found Saul and his three sons lying on the mountain of Gilboa.

9 And they cut off his head, and stripped him of his weapons, and sent around the land of the Philistines to preach him in the temple of their idols, and among the people.

10 And they put their weapons in the temple of Ashtaroth, and his body they fixed on the wall of Beth-san.

11 When the inhabitants of Jabesh of Gilead heard this, what the Philistines did to Saul,

12 Every valiant man arose, and walked all night, and took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons out of the wall of Beth-san, and when they came to Jabesh, they burned him.

13 And they took his bones, and buried them under a grove in Jabesh, and fasted seven days.

1 Os filisteus, pois, pelejaram contra Israel:  e os homens de Israel fugiram de diante dos filisteus, e caíram atravessados  na montanha de Gilboa.

2 E os filisteus apertaram com Saul e seus filhos: e os filisteus mataram a Jônatas, e a Abinadabe, e a Malquisua, filhos de Saul.

3 E a peleja se agravou contra Saul, e os flecheiros o alcançaram; e muito temeu por causa dos flecheiros.

4 Então disse Saul ao seu pajem de armas: Arranca tua espada, e atravessa-me com ela, para que porventura não venham estes incircuncisos, e me atravessem  e escarneçam de mim. Porém o seu pajem de armas não quis, porque temia muito: então Saul tomou a espada, e se lançou sobre ela.

5 Vendo pois o seu pajem de armas que Saul era morto, também ele se lançou sobre a sua espada, e morreu com ele.

6 Assim faleceu Saul, e seus três filhos, e o seu pajem de armas, e também todos os seus homens morreram juntamente naquele dia.

7 E, vendo os homens de Israel, que estavam desta banda do vale e desta banda do Jordão, que os homens de Israel fugiram, e que Saul e seus filhos estavam mortos, desampararam as cidades e fugiram; e vieram os filisteus e habitaram nelas.

8 Sucedeu pois que, vindo os filisteus ao outro dia a despojar os mortos, acharam Saul e a seus três filhos estirados na montanha de Gilboa.

9 E cortaram-lhe a cabeça, e o despojaram das suas armas, e enviaram pela terra dos filisteus, em redor, a anunciá-lo no templo dos seus ídolos e entre o povo.

10  E puseram as suas armas no templo de Astarote, e o seu corpo o afixaram no muro de Bete-Sã.

11 Ouvindo então isto os moradores de Jabes de Gileade, o que os filisteus fizeram a Saul,

12 Todo o homem valoroso se levantou, e caminharam toda a noite, e tiraram o corpo de Saul e os corpos de seus filhos do muro de Bete-Sã, e, vindo a Jabes o queimaram.

13 E tomaram os seus ossos, e os sepultaram debaixo, de um arvoredo em Jabes, e jejuaram sete dias.

22 Then all the wicked, and the sons of Belial, among the men that went with David, answered, and said, Since they have not gone with us, we will not give them of the spoil which we have delivered; but let each one take his wife and children, and go.

23 But David said, Ye shall not do so, my brethren, whereby the LORD hath given us, which hath guarded us, and hath given the troops against us into our hands.

24 And who in such would listen to you? for what is the part of those who went down to battle, so shall be the part of those who are left with the baggage; they will also dish out.

25 Which was so from that day forward, because he made it a statute and a right in Israel to this day.

26 And when David came to Siklag, he sent of the spoil to the elders of Judah, his friends, saying, Behold a blessing for you from the spoil of the enemies of the LORD;

27 To Bethel, and to Ramoth in the south, and to Jater,

28 And to Aroer, and to Sifmoth, and to Estemoa,

29 And to Racals, and to those who were in the Jerameeeelite cities, and in the cities of the Kenites.

30 And to those of Hormah, and to those of Korahan, and to those of Assault.

31 And to those of Hebron, and to all the places where David walked, he and his men.
