 II Samuel 02

David is acclaimed king of Judah

1 And it came to pass after this that David inquired of the LORD, saying, Shall I go up to any of the cities of Judah? And the Lord said to him, Go up. And David said, Where shall I go up? And he said: To Hebron.

2 And David went up thither, and also his two wives, Aquinoan the Jezreelite, and Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite.

3 And David also brought up the men that were with him, each one with his family: and they dwelt in the cities of Hebron.

4 Then came the men of Judah, and anointed David king over the house of Judah there. And they warned David, saying, The men of Jabesh of Gilead are they that buried Saul.

5 Then David sent messengers to the men of Jabesh of Gilead, and said to them, Blessed be ye of the LORD, that ye have done such kindness unto your lord Saul, and have buried him!

6 Now therefore, the Lord use you benevolence and faithfulness: and I also will do you this good, because you have done this.

7 Now therefore let your hands be strong, and be mighty men, for your lord Saul is slain, but they also of the house of Judah have anointed me king over them.
