सुलैमान के नीतिवचन 15

1 कोमल उत्तर क्रोध को ठण्डा कर देता है, परन्तु कठोर वचन क्रोध भड़काते हैं।

2 बुद्धिमान की वाणी बुद्धि को शोभायमान करती है, परन्तु मूर्खों के मुँह से मूर्खता निकलती है।

3 यहोवा की आँखें सब स्थानों में लगी रहती हैं, और वे बुराई और भलाई दोनों को देखती रहती हैं।

4 पवित्र वाणी जीवन का वृक्ष है, परन्तु उसमें कुटिलता आत्मा को तोड़ देती है।

5 मूर्ख अपने पिता की शिक्षा को तुच्छ जानता है, परन्तु जो डाँट सुनता है, वह बुद्धिमान है।

6 धर्मी के घर में बहुत धन है, परन्तु दुष्टों का फल विपत्ति है।

7 बुद्धिमान के होंठ ज्ञान की बातें उगलते हैं, परन्तु मूर्खों का मन ऐसा नहीं करता।

8 दुष्टों का बलिदान यहोवा को घृणित है, परन्तु धर्मी की प्रार्थना उसे प्रसन्न करती है।

9 दुष्टों का मार्ग यहोवा को घृणित है, परन्तु वह धर्म के मार्ग पर चलनेवालों से प्रेम रखता है।

10 जो मार्ग छोड़ देता है, उसके लिए अनुशासन कष्टदायक है, और जो डाँट से घृणा करता है, वह मर जाएगा।

11 नरक और विनाश यहोवा के सामने हैं, तो फिर मनुष्यों के मन कितने अधिक भयानक होंगे?

12 ठट्ठा करनेवाला उस से प्रेम नहीं करता जो उसे डाँटता है, और न बुद्धिमानों के पास जाता है।

13 प्रसन्न मन मुख पर प्रसन्नता लाता है, परन्तु मन का दुःख आत्मा को कुचल देता है।

14 समझदार मन ज्ञान की खोज करता है, परन्तु मूर्खों का मुख मूर्खता से भर जाता है।

15 दुःखी के सब दिन दुःख भरे रहते हैं, परन्तु प्रसन्न मन निरन्तर भोज में लगा रहता है।

16 यहोवा के भय के साथ थोड़ा धन, बड़े धन और उसके साथ क्लेश से उत्तम है।

17 प्रेम के साथ साग-भाजी का भोजन, बैर के साथ पाले हुए बैल से उत्तम है।

18 क्रोधी मनुष्य झगड़ा भड़काता है, परन्तु जो क्रोध में धीमा है, वह झगड़े को शान्त करता है।

19 आलसी का मार्ग काँटों वाली बाड़ के समान है, परन्तु धर्मी का मार्ग समतल है।

20 बुद्धिमान पुत्र पिता को आनन्दित करता है, परन्तु मूर्ख अपनी माता को तुच्छ जानता है।

21 जो समझ नहीं रखता, उसके लिए मूर्खता आनन्द है, परन्तु समझदार मनुष्य सीधाई से चलता है।

22 जहाँ सम्मति नहीं होती, वहाँ योजनाएँ निष्फल हो जाती हैं, परन्तु बहुत से मन्त्रियों की सहायता से वे सिद्ध होती हैं।

23 मनुष्य अपने मुँह के उत्तर से प्रसन्न होता है, और समय पर बोला हुआ वचन क्या ही भला होता है!

24 जीवन का मार्ग समझ की ओर ऊपर की ओर ले जाता है, ताकि उसे नीचे नरक से बचाए रखे।

25 यहोवा अभिमानियों के घर को ढा देता है, परन्तु विधवा की मीरास को स्थिर करता है।

26 दुष्टों के विचार यहोवा को घृणित लगते हैं, परन्तु शुद्ध लोगों के वचन मनभावने होते हैं।

27 जो लोभ में पड़ जाता है, वह अपने घराने को दु:ख देता है, परन्तु जो दान से घृणा करता है, वह जीवित रहेगा।

28 धर्मी मन में सोचता है कि क्या उत्तर दूं, परन्तु दुष्टों के मुंह से बुरी बातें बहुतायत से निकलती हैं।

29 यहोवा दुष्टों से दूर रहता है, परन्तु वह धर्मियों की प्रार्थना सुनता है।

30 आँखों की ज्योति हृदय को आनन्दित करती है; अच्छा नाम हड्डियों को पुष्ट करता है।

31 जो कान जीवनदायी डाँट सुनते हैं, वे बुद्धिमानों के बीच वास करेंगे।

32 जो ताड़ना को अस्वीकार करता, वह अपने प्राण को तुच्छ जानता है, परन्तु जो डाँट सुनता है, वह समझ प्राप्त करता है।

33 यहोवा का भय मानना बुद्धि की शिक्षा है, और आदर से पहिले नम्रता होती है।

Proverbs of Solomon 15

1 A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.

2 The tongue of the wise adorns wisdom, but the mouth of fools pours out folly.

3 The eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.

4 A wholesome tongue is a tree of life, but perversity in it breaks the spirit.

5 A fool despises his father's instruction, but he who heeds reproof is prudent.

6 In the house of the righteous there is great treasure, but the fruit of the wicked is trouble.

7 The lips of the wise will pour out knowledge, but the heart of fools will not do so.

8 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord, but the prayer of the upright is his delight.

9 The way of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord, but he loves those who pursue righteousness.

10 Discipline is grievous for him who forsakes the way, and he who hates reproof will die.

11 Hell and destruction are before the Lord: how much more the hearts of the children of men?

12 A scoffer does not love one who reproves him, nor will he approach the wise.

13 A cheerful heart makes a cheerful face, but heartache crushes the spirit.

14 An understanding heart seeks knowledge, but the mouth of fools feeds on folly.

15 All the days of the afflicted are evil, but a cheerful heart has a continual feast.

16 Better is a little with the fear of the Lord than great treasure and trouble therewith.

17 Better is a meal of herbs where love is than a fattened ox and hatred with it.

18 An angry man stirs up strife, but one who is slow to anger appeases strife.

19 The way of the lazy is like a thorn hedge, but the path of the upright is level.

20 A wise son makes a glad father, but a foolish man despises his mother.

21 Foolishness is joy to one who lacks understanding, but a man of understanding walks uprightly.

22 Where there is no counsel, plans come to nothing, but with many advisers they are established.

23 A man delights in the answer of his mouth, and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!

24 The path of life leads upward to the understanding, to keep him from hell below.

25 The Lord will tear down the house of the proud, but he will establish the inheritance of the widow.

26 The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the Lord, but the words of the pure are pleasant.

27 He who gives himself over to greed troubles his own house, but he who hates gifts will live.

28 The heart of the righteous ponders how to answer, but the mouth of the wicked pours out evil things in abundance.

29 The Lord is far from the wicked, but he will hear the prayer of the righteous.

30 The light of the eyes rejoices the heart; a good name makes the bones fat.

31 The ears that listen to the reproof of life will make their home among the wise.

32 He who refuses correction despises his own soul, but he who listens to reproof gains understanding.

33 The fear of the Lord is the instruction of wisdom, and before honor goes humility.

1 A resposta branda desvia o furor, mas a palavra dura suscita a ira.

2 A língua dos sábios adorna a sabedoria, mas a boca dos tolos derrama estultícia.

3 Os olhos do Senhor estão em todo o lugar, contemplando os maus e os bons.

4 Uma língua saudável é árvore de vida, mas a perversidade nela quebranta o espírito.

5 O tolo despreza a correção de seu pai, mas o que observa a repreensão prudentemente se haverá.

6 Na casa do justo há um grande tesouro, mas nos frutos do ímpio há perturbação.

7 Os lábios dos sábios derramarão o conhecimento, mas o coração dos tolos não fará assim.

8 O sacrifício dos ímpios é abominável ao Senhor, mas a oração dos retos é o seu contentamento.

9 O caminho do ímpio é abominável ao Senhor, mas ele ama o que segue a justiça.

10 Correção molesta há para o que deixa a vereda, e o que aborrece a repreensão morrerá.

11 O inferno e a perdição estão perante o Senhor: Quanto mais os corações dos filhos dos homens?

12 Não ama o escarnecedor aquele que o repreende, nem se chegará para os sábios.

13 O coração alegre aformoseia o rosto, mas pela dor do coração o espírito se abate.

14 O coração entendido buscará o conhecimento, mas a boca dos tolos se apascentará de estultícia.

15 Todos os dias do aflito são maus, mas o coração alegre tem um banquete contínuo.

16 Melhor é o pouco com o temor do Senhor, do que um grande tesouro, onde há inquietação.

17 Melhor é a comida de hortaliça, onde há amor, do que o boi gordo, e com ele o ódio.

18 O homem iracundo suscita contendas, mas o longânimo apaziguará a luta.

19 O caminho do preguiçoso é como a sebe de espinhos, mas a vereda dos retos está bem igualada.

20 O filho sábio alegrará a seu pai, mas o homem insensato despreza a sua mãe.

21 A estultícia é alegria para o que carece de entendimento, mas o homem entendido anda retamente.

22 Onde não há conselho os projetos saem vãos, mas com a multidão de conselheiros se confirmarão.

23 O homem se alegra na resposta da sua boca, e a palavra a seu tempo quão boa é!

24 Para o entendido, o caminho da vida é para cima, para que ele se desvie do inferno que está em baixo.

25 O Senhor arrancará a casa dos soberbos, mas firmará a herança da viúva.

26 Abomináveis são para o Senhor os pensamentos do mau, mas as palavras dos limpos são aprazíveis.

27 O que se dá à cobiça perturba a sua casa, mas o que aborrece as dádivas viverá.

28 O coração do justo medita o que há de responder, mas a boca dos ímpios derrama em abundância coisas más.

29 Longe está o Senhor dos ímpios, mas escutará a oração dos justos.

30 A luz dos olhos alegra o coração; a boa fama engorda os ossos.

31 Os ouvidos que escutam a repreensão da vida, no meio dos sábios farão a sua morada.

32 O que rejeita a correção menospreza a sua alma, mas o que escuta a repreensão adquire entendimento.

33 O temor do Senhor é a instrução da sabedoria, e diante da honra vai a humildade.

1 हर बुद्धिमान स्त्री अपना घर बनाती है, परन्तु मूर्ख स्त्री उसे अपने ही हाथों से ढा देती है।

2 जो खराई से चलता है, वह यहोवा का भय मानता है, परन्तु जो उसके मार्ग से भटक जाता है, वह उसका तिरस्कार करता है।

3 मूर्ख के मुँह में घमंड की छड़ी होती है, परन्तु बुद्धिमान के वचन उसे बचाए रखते हैं।

4 जहाँ बैल नहीं होते, वहाँ खलिहान साफ रहता है, परन्तु बैल के बल से फसल बहुतायत में होती है।

5 सच्चा साक्षी झूठ नहीं बोलता, परन्तु झूठा साक्षी झूठ बोलता है।

6 ठट्ठा करनेवाला बुद्धि ढूँढ़ता तो है, परन्तु पाता नहीं, परन्तु बुद्धिमान को ज्ञान सहज से मिलता है।

7 मूर्ख के सामने चलो, और तुम उसके ज्ञान की बातें न पाओगे।

8 बुद्धिमान की बुद्धि अपने मार्ग को समझना है, परन्तु मूर्खों की मूर्खता धोखा देना है।

9 मूर्ख पाप का उपहास करते हैं, परन्तु धर्मी लोगों में भलाई होती है।

10 मन अपनी ही कड़वाहट जानता है, और कोई पराया उसके आनन्द में बाधा नहीं डालता।

11 दुष्टों का घर नाश हो जाएगा, परन्तु धर्मी का तम्बू फलता-फूलता रहेगा।

12 ऐसा मार्ग है जो मनुष्य को सीधा लगता है, परन्तु उसका अन्त मृत्यु ही है।

13 हँसी के द्वारा भी मन दुःखी होगा, और आनन्द का अन्त शोक है।

14 भटकनेवाला अपने ही मार्गों से सन्तुष्ट रहता है, परन्तु भला मनुष्य अपने ही से सन्तुष्ट रहता है।

15 भोला मनुष्य तो हर एक बात पर विश्वास करता है, परन्तु चतुर मनुष्य सोच-समझकर कदम रखता है।

16 बुद्धिमान मनुष्य डरकर बुराई से दूर रहता है, परन्तु मूर्ख क्रोध करके निडर रहता है।

17 जो शीघ्रता से चलता है, वह मूर्खतापूर्ण काम करेगा, और बुरी युक्ति करनेवाले से लोग घृणा करेंगे।

18 भोला मनुष्य मूर्खता का वारिस होता है, परन्तु चतुर मनुष्य ज्ञान का मुकुट धारण करता है।

19 बुरे लोग भले लोगों के सामने और दुष्ट लोग धर्मी लोगों के द्वार पर दण्डवत् करते हैं।

20 गरीबों से उनके पड़ोसी भी घृणा करते हैं, परन्तु धनी के बहुत से मित्र होते हैं।

21 जो अपने पड़ोसी को तुच्छ जानता है, वह पाप करता है, परन्तु जो नम्र लोगों पर दया करता है, वह धन्य होता है।

22 क्या बुरे लोग गलती नहीं करते? परन्तु जो भलाई करते हैं, वे कृपा और सच्चाई दिखाते हैं।

23 हर प्रकार के परिश्रम में लाभ होता है, परन्तु होठों की बातें केवल दरिद्रता की ओर ले जाती हैं।

24 बुद्धिमानों का मुकुट उनका धन है, परन्तु मूर्खों की मूर्खता केवल मूर्खता है।

25 सच्चा साक्षी प्राणों को बचाता है, परन्तु जो झूठ बोलता है, वह छल करता है।

32 दुष्ट अपनी दुष्टता के कारण भटक जाता है, परन्तु धर्मी अपनी मृत्यु में भी आशा रखता है।

33 बुद्धि बुद्धिमान के हृदय में वास करती है, परन्तु मूर्खों के हृदय में जो है वह प्रगट हो जाता है।

34 धर्म जाति को बढ़ाता है, परन्तु पाप किसी भी जाति के लिए निन्दा का कारण होता है।

35 राजा बुद्धिमान सेवक से प्रसन्न होता है, परन्तु उसका क्रोध बेईमान सेवक पर पड़ता है।

Proverbs of Solomon 14

1 Every wise woman builds her house, but a foolish woman tears it down with her own hands.

2 Whoever walks in integrity fears the Lord, but whoever strays from his ways despises him.

3 A rod of pride is in the mouth of a fool, but the lips of a wise man will preserve him.

4 Where there are no oxen, the barn is clean, but by the strength of an ox there is an abundance of crops.

5 A true witness will not lie, but a false witness pours out lies.

6 A scoffer seeks wisdom and does not find it, but knowledge is easy for the prudent.

7 Go before a foolish man, and you will not perceive the lips of knowledge in him.

8 The wisdom of the prudent is to understand his way, but the folly of fools is to deceive.

9 Fools mock at sin, but good will is among the upright.

10 The heart knows its own bitterness, and a stranger will not interfere with its mirth.

11 The house of the wicked will be destroyed, but the tent of the upright will flourish.

12 There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the ways of death.

13 Even through laughter the heart will be in pain, and the end of joy is grief.

14 The backsliding man will be satisfied with his own ways, but a good man will be satisfied with himself.

15 The simple believe every word, but the prudent consider their steps.

16 A wise man fears and turns away from evil, but a fool is angry and is confident.

17 He who is quick to go will do foolish things, and a man of evil devices will be hated.

18 The simple inherit folly, but the prudent are crowned with knowledge.

19 The evil bow down before the good, and the wicked at the gates of the righteous.

20 The poor are hated even by their neighbors, but the rich have many friends.

21 Whoever despises his neighbor sins, but whoever shows kindness to the humble is blessed.

22 Do not those who do evil err? But those who do good will show kindness and faithfulness.

23 In all labor there is profit, but the talk of the lips leads only to poverty.

24 The crown of the wise is their wealth, but the folly of fools is mere folly.

25 A true witness delivers souls, but he who speaks lies is deceitful.

26 In the fear of the Lord there is strong confidence, and he will be a refuge for his children.

27 The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, to keep one from the snares of death.

28 In the multitude of people is the majesty of a king, but in the lack of people the trouble of a prince.

29 He who is slow to anger has great understanding, but he who is hasty in spirit exalts folly.

30 A sound heart is the life of the flesh, but envy is rottenness to the bones.

31 He who oppresses the poor insults his Maker, but he who is kind to the needy honors him.

32 The wicked is driven away by his wickedness, but the righteous have hope even in their death.

33 Wisdom rests in the heart of the prudent, but what is in the heart of fools is known.

34 Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people. 35 The king delights in a wise servant, but his wrath falls on one who acts dishonestly.

1 Toda a mulher sábia edifica a sua casa: mas a tola derruba-a com as suas mãos.

2 O que anda na sua sinceridade teme ao Senhor, mas o que se desvia de seus caminhos despreza-o.

3 Na boca do tolo está a vara da soberba, mas os lábios do sábio preserva-lo-ão.

4 Não havendo bois, o celeiro fica limpo, mas pela força do boi há abundância de colheitas.

5 A testemunha verdadeira não mentirá, mas a testemunha falsa se desboca em mentiras.

6 O escarnecedor busca sabedoria, e não a acha, mas para o prudente o conhecimento é fácil.

7 Vai-te à presença do homem insensato, e nele não divisarás os lábios do conhecimento.

8 A sabedoria do prudente é entender o seu caminho, mas a estultícia dos tolos é enganar.

9 Os loucos zombam do pecado, mas entre os retos há boa vontade.

10 O coração conhece a sua própria amargura, e o estranho não se entremeterá na sua alegria.

11 A casa dos ímpios se desfará, mas a tenda dos retos florescerá.

12 Há caminho que ao homem parece direito, mas o fim dele são os caminhos da morte.

13 Até no riso terá dor o coração, e o fim da alegria é tristeza.

14 Dos seus caminhos se fartará o infiel de coração, mas o homem bom se fartará de si mesmo.

15 O simples dá crédito a cada palavra, mas o prudente atenta para os seus passos.

16 O sábio teme, e desvia-se do mal, mas o tolo encoleriza-se, e dá-se por seguro.

17 O que presto se irá fará doidices, e o homem de más imaginações será aborrecido.

18 Os simples herdarão a estultícia, mas os prudentes se coroarão de conhecimento.

19 Os maus inclinam-se perante a face dos bons, e os ímpios diante das portas do justo.

20 O pobre é aborrecido até do companheiro, mas os amigos dos ricos são muitos.

21 O que despreza ao seu companheiro peca, mas o que se compadece dos humildes é bem-aventurado.

22 Porventura não erram os que praticam mal? Mas beneficência e fidelidade haverá para os que praticam o bem.

23 Em todo o trabalho há proveito, mas a palavra dos lábios só encaminha para a pobreza.

24 A coroa dos sábios é a sua riqueza, a estultícia dos tolos é só estultícia.

25 A testemunha verdadeira livra as almas, mas o que se desboca em mentiras é enganador.

26 No temor do Senhor há firme confiança e ele será um refúgio para seus filhos.

27 O temor do Senhor é uma fonte de vida, para preservar dos laços da morte.

28 Na multidão do povo está a magnificência do rei, mas na falta de povo a perturbação do príncipe.

29 O longânimo é grande em entendimento, mas o de ânimo precipitado exalta a loucura.

30 O coração com saúde é a vida da carne, mas a inveja é a podridão dos ossos.

31 O que oprime o pobre insulta àquele que o criou, mas o que se compadece do necessitado honra-o.

32 Pela sua malícia será lançado fora o ímpio, mas o justo até na sua morte tem esperança.

33 No coração do prudente repousa a sabedoria, mas o que há no interior dos tolos se conhece.

34 A justiça exalta as nações, mas o pecado é o opróbrio dos povos.

35 O rei tem seu contentamento no servo prudente, mas sobre o que procede indignamente cairá o seu furor.

1 बुद्धिमान पुत्र अपने पिता की शिक्षा सुनता है, परन्तु ठट्ठा करनेवाला डाँट सुनने से इनकार करता है।

2 उसके वचनों के फल से सब लोग उत्तम वस्तुएँ खाते हैं, परन्तु अपराधियों का मन हिंसा खाता है।

3 जो अपने मुँह की चौकसी करता है, वह अपने प्राण की रक्षा करता है, परन्तु जो अपनी जीभ को चौड़ा खोलता है, वह विनाश को प्राप्त होता है।

4 आलसी मनुष्य लालसा तो करता है, परन्तु कुछ नहीं पाता, परन्तु परिश्रमी हृष्ट-पुष्ट हो जाता है।

5 धर्मी जन झूठी बातों से घृणा करता है, परन्तु दुष्ट घृणित होते हैं और लज्जित होते हैं।

6 धर्म धर्मी को उसके मार्ग पर बनाए रखता है, परन्तु दुष्टता पापी को गिरा देती है।

7 कोई ऐसा है जो कुछ न होते हुए भी धनी हो जाता है, और कोई ऐसा है जो बहुत धन होते हुए भी कंगाल हो जाता है।

8 मनुष्य के प्राण की छुड़ौती उसका धन है, परन्तु कंगाल डाँट सुनने को तैयार नहीं।

9 धर्मी का प्रकाश आनन्द लाता है, परन्तु दुष्टों का दीपक बुझ जाता है।

10 अभिमान केवल कलह लाता है, परन्तु जो सम्मति मानते हैं, उनमें बुद्धि पाई जाती है।

11 व्यर्थ का धन घटता है, परन्तु जो परिश्रम से बटोरता है, वह बढ़ता है।

12 आशा पूरी होने में विलम्ब होने से मन उदास होता है, परन्तु अभिलाषा पूरी होने से जीवन का वृक्ष लगता है।

13 जो वचन का तिरस्कार करता है, वह नाश हो जाता है, परन्तु जो आज्ञा का भय मानता है, उसे प्रतिफल मिलता है।

14 बुद्धिमान की शिक्षा जीवन का सोता है, जो मनुष्य को मृत्यु के फन्दों से बचाती है।

15 अच्छी समझ अनुग्रह देती है, परन्तु अपराधियों का मार्ग कठिन होता है।

16 हर एक बुद्धिमान मनुष्य ज्ञान से काम करता है, परन्तु मूर्ख मूर्खता फैलाता है।

17 एक बुरा दूत विपत्ति में पड़ जाता है, परन्तु एक विश्वासयोग्य दूत स्वास्थ्य लाता है।

18 जो शिक्षा को अस्वीकार करता है, उस पर दरिद्रता और अपमान आता है, परन्तु जो डाँट को मानता है, उसका आदर होता है।

19 अभिलाषा पूरी होने से मन प्रसन्न होता है, परन्तु मूर्खों को बुराई से दूर रहना घृणित काम लगता है।

20 बुद्धिमानों की संगति कर, तू भी बुद्धिमान हो जाएगा, परन्तु मूर्खों का साथी हानि उठाएगा।

21 पापियों के पीछे बुराई चलती है, परन्तु धर्मी को भलाई का फल मिलता है।

22 भला मनुष्य अपने नाती-पोतों के लिए भाग छोड़ जाता है, परन्तु पापी का धन धर्मी के लिए रखा जाता है।

23 निर्धन के खेत में बहुत अन्न होता है, परन्तु कुछ लोग नासमझी के कारण उसे नष्ट कर देते हैं।

4 A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband, but she who deals shamefully is like rottenness in his bones.

5 The thoughts of the righteous are right, but the counsel of the wicked is deceit.

6 The words of the wicked are to lay a snare for blood, but the mouth of the upright will deliver them.

7 The wicked will be overthrown and will be no more, but the house of the righteous will stand.

8 According to their understanding each one will be praised, but the perverse in heart will be despised.

9 Better is he who is lightly esteemed and has servants than he who honors himself and lacks bread.

10 A righteous man regards the life of his livestock, but the compassion of the wicked is cruel.

3 धर्मी जन की खराई उन्हें मार्ग दिखाती है, परन्तु विश्वासघाती की कुटिलता उन्हें नाश कर देती है।

4 क्रोध के दिन धन से लाभ नहीं होता, परन्तु धर्म मृत्यु से बचाता है।

5 धर्मी जन का धर्म उनका मार्ग सीधा करता है, परन्तु दुष्ट अपनी दुष्टता के कारण गिर जाते हैं।

6 धर्मी जन का धर्म उन्हें बचाता है, परन्तु दुष्ट अपनी दुष्टता में फँस जाते हैं।

12 जो अपने पड़ोसी का तिरस्कार करता है, उसमें बुद्धि की कमी होती है, परन्तु समझदार मनुष्य चुप रहता है।

13 शाप देनेवाला भेद प्रगट करता है, परन्तु विश्वासयोग्य मनुष्य बात को छिपा रखता है।

14 जहाँ बुद्धि की युक्ति नहीं, वहाँ प्रजा विपत्ति में पड़ जाती है, परन्तु बहुत से मन्त्रियों के द्वारा सुरक्षा होती है।

15 जो पराए का जामिन होता है, वह निश्चय ही दुःख उठाता है, परन्तु जो जामिन से घृणा करता है, वह सुरक्षित रहता है।

16 अनुग्रहकारी स्त्री मान की रक्षा करती है, जैसे हिंसक पुरुष धन की रक्षा करते हैं।

17 दयालु मनुष्य अपने ही प्राण को लाभ पहुँचाता है, परन्तु क्रूर मनुष्य अपने ही शरीर को कष्ट पहुँचाता है।

18 दुष्ट छल से कमाई करता है, परन्तु जो धर्म का बीज बोता है, उसे निश्चय फल मिलेगा।

19 जैसे धार्मिकता जीवन की ओर ले जाती है, वैसे ही जो बुराई का पीछा करता है, वह मृत्यु की ओर ले जाता है।

20 जो मन के कुटिल हैं, वे यहोवा को घृणा करते हैं, परन्तु जो अपने चालचलन में खरे हैं, उनसे वह प्रसन्न होता है।

21 चाहे हाथ से हाथ मिला लिया जाए, तो भी बुराई दण्ड से नहीं बचेगी, परन्तु धर्मी की सन्तान बच जाएगी।

22 जैसे सूअर की थूथन में सोने के रत्न होते हैं, वैसी ही सुन्दर स्त्री होती है जो समझ से परे होती है।

23 धर्मी की इच्छा तो केवल भलाई की होती है, परन्तु दुष्टों की आशा क्रोध की होती है।

24 कुछ लोग ऐसे हैं जो बिखेरते तो हैं, परन्तु फिर भी बढ़ते जाते हैं; और कुछ ऐसे भी हैं जो उचित से अधिक नहीं देते, परन्तु इससे उनका नुकसान होता है।

25 उदार प्राणी हृष्ट-पुष्ट हो जाएगा, और जो सींचता है, उसे सींचा जाएगा।

26 जो अन्न नहीं देता, उसे लोग शाप देंगे, परन्तु बेचनेवाले के सिर पर आशीर्वाद होगा।

3 The integrity of the upright will guide them, but the perverseness of the treacherous will destroy them.

4 Riches do not profit in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death.

5 The righteousness of the upright will make straight their way, but the wicked will fall by their wickedness.

6 The righteousness of the upright will deliver them, but the wicked will be caught in their own wickedness.

7 When the wicked die, their expectation perishes, and the hope of wickedness is lost.

8 The righteous is delivered from trouble, and the wicked takes his place.

9 With his mouth an hypocrite destroys his neighbor, but through knowledge the righteous are delivered.

10 In the good of the righteous a city rejoices, and when the wicked perish, there is gladness.

11 By the blessing of the upright a city is exalted, but by the mouth of the wicked it is overthrown.

6 धर्मी के सिर पर आशीर्वाद होता है, परन्तु दुष्टों का मुंह हिंसा से ढका रहता है।

7 धर्मी का स्मरण धन्य होता है, परन्तु दुष्टों का नाम सड़ जाता है।

8 जो मन से बुद्धिमान है वह आज्ञाओं को मानता है, परन्तु बकवादी मूर्ख गिरा दिया जाता है।

9 जो खराई से चलता है, वह निडर चलता है, परन्तु जो टेढ़ी चाल चलता है, वह प्रगट हो जाता है।

10 जो नैन से इशारा करता है, वह दुःख देता है, और मूर्ख के होंठ उलट दिए जाते हैं।

2 The treasures of wickedness profit nothing, but righteousness delivers from death.

3 The Lord will not let the soul of the righteous go hungry, but he thwarts the desire of the wicked.

4 He who works with a deceitful hand becomes poor, but the hand of the diligent makes rich.

5 He who gathers in summer is a wise son, but he who sleeps in harvest is a son who brings shame.

6 A blessing is on the head of the righteous, but violence covers the mouth of the wicked.

7 The memory of the righteous is blessed, but the name of the wicked will rot.

8 The wise in heart accept commandments, but the chattering fool will be overthrown.

बुद्धि का भोज

1 बुद्धि ने अपना घर बनाया है; उसने अपने सात खंभे गढ़े हैं।

2 उसने अपने बलिदान चढ़ाए हैं, अपना दाखरस मिलाया है, और अपनी मेज़ सजाई है।

3 उसने अपनी दासियों को आज्ञा दी है; उसने नगर की ऊँचाइयों से बुलाकर कहा है,

4 "भोले लोग यहाँ आएँ।" जो समझ नहीं रखते, उनसे वह कहती है, "

5 आओ, मेरी रोटी खाओ, और मेरे द्वारा मिलाई हुई दाखरस पीओ।"

6 मूर्खों को त्याग दो, और जीवित रहो; और समझ के मार्ग पर चलो।

7 जो ठट्ठा करनेवाले को डाँटता है, वह लज्जित होता है; और जो दुष्ट को डाँटता है, वह कलंकित होता है।

8 ठट्ठा करनेवाले को मत डाँट, ऐसा न हो कि वह तुझ से बैर रखे; बुद्धिमान को डाँट, तो वह तुझ से प्रेम करेगा।

9 बुद्धिमान को शिक्षा दे, तो वह और भी बुद्धिमान होगा; धर्मी को शिक्षा दे, तो उसकी समझ बढ़ेगी।

10 यहोवा का भय मानना बुद्धि का आरम्भ है, और पवित्र परमेश्‍वर को जानना ही विवेक है।

11 क्योंकि मेरे द्वारा तेरे दिन बढ़ेंगे, और तेरे जीवन के वर्ष बढ़ेंगे।

12 यदि तू बुद्धिमान है, तो तू अपने लिए बुद्धिमान ठहरेगा; और यदि तू ठट्ठा करनेवाला है, तो तू ही उसे सहेगा।

13 मूर्ख स्त्री शोर मचाती है; वह भोली है और कुछ नहीं जानती।

14 वह अपने घर के द्वार पर, या नगर के ऊँचे स्थानों पर आसन पर बैठी रहती है।

15 वह आने-जानेवालों को पुकारती है और सीधे अपने मार्ग पर चली जाती है।

16 भोले लोग यहीं मुड़ें। और जो समझ नहीं रखते, उनसे वह कहती है:

17 चोरी का पानी मीठा होता है, और छिपकर खाई हुई रोटी मनभावनी होती है।

18 परन्तु वह नहीं जानती कि मरे हुए वहाँ हैं; कि उसके मेहमान अधोलोक की गहराइयों में हैं।

The Banquet of Wisdom

1 Wisdom has built her house; she has hewn out her seven pillars.

2 She has sacrificed her sacrifices, mixed her wine, and prepared her table.

3 She has given orders to her maidens; she has invited from the heights of the city, saying,

4 "Let the simple turn in here." To those who lack understanding she says, "

5 Come, eat my bread, and drink the wine I have mixed."

6 Forsake the foolish, and live; and walk in the way of understanding.

7 He who rebukes a scorner receives shame; and he who rebukes the wicked receives his stain.

8 Do not rebuke a scorner, lest he hate you; rebuke a wise man, and he will love you.

9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser; teach a righteous man, and he will increase in understanding.

10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is prudence.

11 For by me your days will be multiplied, and the years of your life will be increased.

12 If you are wise, you will be wise for yourself; and if you are a scoffer, you alone will bear it.

13 A foolish woman is noisy; she is simple and knows nothing.

14 She sits at the door of her house, or on a seat on the high places of the city.

15 She calls out to those who pass by and go straight on their way.

16 Let the simple turn here. And to those who lack understanding she says:

17 Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.

18 But she does not know that the dead are there; that her guests are in the depths of Sheol.
