II Chronicles 24 Joash Gives Orders to Repair the Temple

 II Chronicles 24

Joash Gives Orders to Repair the Temple

1 Joash was seven years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem; and his mother's name was Zibiah of Beersheba.

2 And Joash did what was right in the eyes of the Lord all the days of Jehoiada the priest.

3 And Jehoiada took him two wives, and he begat sons and daughters.

4 And it came to pass after this, that it came into the heart of Joash to renovate the house of the Lord.

5 Then he gathered together the priests and the Levites, and said to them, Go out into the cities of Judah, and gather money from all Israel, to repair the house of your God year by year; and ye shall hasten the matter. But the Levites did not hasten.

6 Then the king summoned Jehoiada the chief and said to him, “Why didn’t you inquire among the Levites to bring the offering of Moses the servant of the Lord and the congregation of Israel from Judah and Jerusalem to the tent of meeting?

7 Because Athaliah was wicked, her sons destroyed the house of God and even all the holy things in the house of the Lord they used for Baalim.”

8 Then the king gave orders, and they made an ark and set it outside at the door of the house of the Lord.

9 And it was announced throughout Judah and Jerusalem that they should bring to the Lord the offering that Moses the servant of the Lord had imposed on Israel in the wilderness.

10 Then all the princes and all the people rejoiced, and they brought the offering and threw it into the ark until the work was finished.

11 And it came to pass, when they brought in the ark by the hand of the Levites, according to the king's commandment, and saw that there was much money, that the king's scribe and the deputy of the high priest came and emptied the ark, and took it up, and returned it to its place. Thus they did day by day, and gathered money in abundance.

12 And the king and Jehoiada gave it to those who had charge of the work of the service of the house of the LORD; and they hired masons and carpenters to renew the house of the LORD, and also smiths and metalworkers to repair the house of the LORD.

13 And those who had charge of the work increased the repair of the work by their hands, and they restored the house of God to its former state, and strengthened it.

14 And when they had finished, they brought the rest of the money before the king and Jehoiada, and made with it vessels for the house of the LORD, vessels for ministering and for offerings, and perfumers, and vessels of gold and silver. And they offered burnt offerings continually in the house of the LORD all the days of Jehoiada.

15 And Jehoiada grew old, and died full of days; he was one hundred and thirty years old when he died.

16 And they buried him in the City of David with the kings, because he had done well in Israel, and toward God and his house.

II Chronicles 23 The Covenant that Jehoiada Made

 II Chronicles 23

The Covenant that Jehoiada Made

16 And Jehoiada made a covenant between himself, and the people, and the king, that they should be the people of the Lord.

17 Then all the people went into the house of Baal, and they tore it down, and broke down its altars, and its images; and they killed Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars.

18 And Jehoiada appointed the offices of the house of the Lord under the hand of the priests, the Levites, whom David had appointed in the house of the Lord, to offer the burnt offerings of the Lord, as it is written in the Law of Moses, with joy and with singing, according to the ordinance of David.

19 And he placed doorkeepers at the gates of the house of the Lord, that no one unclean in any way might enter it.

20 Then he took the centurions, the mighty men, and those who held authority among the people, and all the people of the land, and brought the king out of the house of the Lord; and they entered the king's house by the greater gate, and set the king upon the throne of the kingdom.

21 And all the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was at peace, after that they had slain Athaliah with the sword.

4 तुम्हें यह करना होगा: तुम में से जो याजक और लेवीय सब्त के दिन प्रवेश करते हैं, उन में से एक तिहाई द्वारपाल होंगे;

12 जब अतल्याह ने राजा की स्तुति करने को दौड़ती हुई प्रजा का शब्द सुना, तब वे यहोवा के भवन में आए;

II Chronicles 23 Jehoiada the Priest Anoints Joash King of Judah

 II Chronicles 23

Jehoiada the Priest Anoints Joash King of Judah

1 But in the seventh year Jehoiada took courage, and took with him into a covenant the captains of hundreds, Azariah the son of Joram, and Ishmael the son of Johanan, and Azariah the son of Obed, and Maaseiah the son of Adalah, and Elishaphat the son of Shikri.

2 They went around Judah and gathered the Levites from all the cities of Judah and the heads of the fathers' houses of Israel, and came to Jerusalem.

3 And the whole assembly made a covenant with the king of the house of God. And Jehoiada said to them, "Behold, the king's son shall reign, as the Lord said concerning the sons of David.

4 This is the thing that ye shall do: A third part of you, the priests and the Levites, who come in on the sabbath, shall be doorkeepers at the gates;

5 And a third part shall be in the king's house, and a third part at the gate of the foundation: and all the people shall be in the courts of the house of the LORD.

6 But no man shall enter into the house of the LORD, save the priests and the Levites that minister; they shall enter, because they are holy: but the people shall keep the charge of the LORD.

7 And the Levites shall compass the king round about, every man with his weapons in his hand; and whosoever entereth into the house shall die: but ye shall be with the king when he cometh in, and when he goeth out.

8 And the Levites and all Judah did according to all that Jehoiada the priest had commanded: and they took every man his men, both those that came in on the sabbath, and those that went out on the sabbath: for Jehoiada the priest had not dismissed the divisions.

9 And Jehoiada the priest gave to the captains of hundreds the spears, and the shields, and the shields that had been King David's, which were in the house of God.

10 Then he arranged all the people, each with his weapons in his hand, from the right side of the house to the left side of the house, from the altar and the house, around the king.

11 Then they brought out the king's son and put the crown on him, and gave him the testimony, and made him king. Then Jehoiada and his sons anointed him king. Jehoiada and his sons anointed him, and said, "Long live the king!"

12 When Athaliah heard the voice of the people running to praise the king, she came to the people to the house of the Lord.

13 And she looked, and behold, the king stood by his pillar at the entrance, and the captains and the trumpeters beside the king. And all the people of the land rejoiced and blew the trumpets, and the singers also played musical instruments, and gave the signal to sing praises. Then Athaliah tore her clothes and cried out, "Treason, treason!"

14 But Jehoiada the priest brought out the captains of hundreds who were in charge of the army and said to them, “Take her out of the ranks, and whoever follows her shall die by the sword, for the priest had said, ‘You shall not kill her in the house of the Lord.’ ”

15 So they seized her, and she went to the entrance of the horse gate of the king’s palace, and they killed her there.

4 Esta é a coisa que haveis de fazer: uma terça parte de vós, os sacerdotes e os levitas que entram de sábado, serão porteiros das portas;

12 Ouvindo pois Atália a voz do povo que corria para louvar o rei, veio ao povo à casa do Senhor;

Athaliah orders the royal family to be killed, but Joash escapes

10 When Athaliah, the mother of Ahaziah, saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the royal family of the house of Judah.

11 But Jehoshaphat, the king's daughter, took Joash the son of Ahaziah and brought him out from among the king's sons who were being killed, and put him and his nurse in the bedchamber. So Jehoshaphat, the daughter of King Joram, the wife of Jehoiada the priest (for she was Ahaziah's sister), hid him from Athaliah's sight, so that she did not kill him.

12 And she was hidden with them in the house of God six years, and Athaliah reigned over the land.

II Chronicles 22 Ahaziah Reigns and is Killed by Jehu

 II Chronicles 22

Ahaziah Reigns and is Killed by Jehu

1 Now the inhabitants of Jerusalem made Ahaziah his youngest son king in his place, because the army that came with the Arabians to the camp had killed all the older men. So Ahaziah the son of Joram king of Judah reigned.

2 He was forty-two years old when he began to reign, and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Athaliah the daughter of Omri.

3 He also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab, for his mother was his counselor, to do wickedly.

4 And he did evil in the sight of the Lord, as the house of Ahab did, for they were his counselors after the death of his father, to his destruction.

5 He also followed his advice and went with Joram the son of Ahab king of Israel to fight against Hazael king of Syria at Ramoth-gilead, and the Syrians wounded Joram.

6 He was healed again in Jezreel of the wounds he had received at Ramah when he fought against Hazael king of Syria. Azariah the son of Joram, king of Judah, went down to see Joram the son of Ahab at Jezreel, because he was sick.

7 So it was from God that Ahaziah was discouraged, so that he would go to Joram. So he came and went with Joram against Jehu the son of Nimshi, whom the Lord had anointed to destroy the house of Ahab.

8 Now it came to pass, when Jehu executed judgment upon the house of Ahab, that he found the princes of Judah, and the sons of Ahaziah's brethren, that ministered unto Ahaziah, and slew them.

9 Then he sought Ahaziah: for he was hiding in Samaria; and they caught him, and brought him to Jehu, and slew him, and buried him: for they said, He is the son of Jehoshaphat, who sought the LORD with all his heart. And there was no man in the house of Ahaziah that was strong enough for the kingdom.

13 परन्तु तुम इस्राएल के राजाओं की सी चाल चले, और अहाब के घराने की नाईं यहूदा और यरूशलेम के निवासियोंको भ्रष्ट कर दिया, और अपने पिता के घराने के भाइयोंको भी जो तुम से अच्छे थे, घात किया;

II Chronicles 21 The Death of Jehoshaphat and the Wickedness of Joram

 II Chronicles 21

The Death of Jehoshaphat and the Wickedness of Joram

1 Then Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers, and they buried him with his fathers in the City of David; and Joram his son reigned in his place.

2 And he had brothers, sons of Jehoshaphat: Azariah, and Jehiel, and Zechariah, and Asariah, and Michael, and Shephatiah; all these were the sons of Jehoshaphat king of Israel.

3 And their father gave them many gifts of silver, and gold, and precious things, with fenced cities in Judah: but the kingdom he gave to Joram, because he was the firstborn.

4 And Joram came up to the kingdom of his father, and strengthened himself, and slew all his brothers with the sword, and also some of the princes of Israel.

5 Joram was thirty-two years old when he began to reign: and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem.

6 He walked in the way of the kings of Israel, as did the house of Ahab, for he had Ahab's daughter as his wife, and he did evil in the sight of the Lord.

7 But the Lord would not destroy the house of David, because of the covenant that he had made with David, and because he had also said that he would give him and his sons a lamp for ever.

8 In his days the Edomites rebelled against the rule of Judah, and they made a king for themselves.

9 So Joram went on ahead with his leaders and all the chariots with him, and rose up by night and struck down the Edomites who had surrounded him, and the captains of the chariots.

10 But the Edomites rebelled against the rule of Judah to this day. At that time Libnah rebelled from under them, because they had forsaken the Lord, the God of their fathers.

11 He also made high places in the mountains of Judah, and caused the inhabitants of Jerusalem to become corrupt, and he also caused Judah to do so.

12 Then a letter came to him from Elijah the prophet, saying, "Thus says the Lord, the God of David your father: Because you have not walked in the ways of Jehoshaphat your father or in the ways of Asa king of Judah,

13 But have walked in the ways of the kings of Israel and have caused Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to become corrupt, according to the corruption of the house of Ahab, and have also killed your brothers, your father's house, who were better than you,

14 Behold, the Lord will strike your people, your children, your wives, and all your possessions with a great plague.

15 You will also have a great illness through an illness in your bowels, until your bowels come out from you from the illness day by day.

16 So the Lord stirred up against Joram the spirit of the Philistines and the Arabians who are on the side of the Ethiopians.

17 They came up against Judah and invaded it, and took all the goods that were found in the king's house, as well as his sons and his wives, so that they left him no son except Jehoahaz, the youngest of his sons.

18 And after all this the Lord struck him in his bowels with an incurable illness.

19 And it came to pass after many days, and at the end of two years, that his bowels fell out through his sickness, and he died of great diseases: and his people did not burn spices for him, as they had burned for his fathers.

20 He was thirty-two years old when he began to reign; and he reigned in Jerusalem eight years: and he departed, and was not left with any remembrance; and they buried him in the city of David, but not in the tombs of the kings.

II Chronicles 20 God Gives Jehoshaphat Victory Over His Enemies

 II Chronicles 20

God Gives Jehoshaphat Victory Over His Enemies

1 And it came to pass after this, that the children of Moab, and the children of Ammon, and with them some of the children of Ammon, came to battle against Jehoshaphat.

2 Then some came and told Jehoshaphat, saying, A great multitude cometh against thee from beyond the sea, and from Syria: and, behold, they are at Hatshon-tamar, which is Engerdi.

3 Then Jehoshaphat was afraid, and set himself to seek the LORD; and he proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.

4 And Judah gathered together to seek help of the LORD; and they came out of all the cities of Judah to seek the LORD.

5 And Jehoshaphat stood in the assembly of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of the LORD, before the new court.

6 And he said, Ah! O Lord, God of our fathers, are you not God in heaven? For you are ruler over all the kingdoms of the nations, and in your hand there is power and might, and no one can withstand you.

7 Did you not, our God, drive out the inhabitants of this land before your people Israel, and give it to the descendants of Abraham your friend forever?

8 So they dwelt therein and built a sanctuary there for your name, saying,

9 If evil comes upon us, the sword, judgment, pestilence, or famine, we will stand before this house and before you, for your name is in this house. We will cry out to you in our trouble, and you will hear and save us.

10 Now, behold, the children of Ammon and Moab, and the children of Mount Seir, whom you would not let Israel pass through when they came out of the land of Egypt, but you turned away from them and did not destroy them,

11 behold, they are repaying us by coming to drive us out of your inheritance, which you have given us to inherit.

12 Oh, our God, will you not judge them? For we have no strength against this great multitude that is coming against us, and we do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.

13 And all Judah stood before the Lord, with their little ones, their women, and their children.

14 Then the Spirit of the Lord came upon Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a Levite of the sons of Asaph, in the midst of the congregation.

15 He said, "Listen, all Judah, and you inhabitants of Jerusalem, and you, King Jehoshaphat. Thus says the Lord to you: Do not be afraid or dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God's.

16 Tomorrow you will go down against them; behold, they are coming up by the ascent of Ziz, and you will find them at the end of the valley, opposite the wilderness of Jeruel.

17 You will not need to fight in this battle. Stand still, stand firm, and see the salvation of the Lord with you, O Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid or dismayed; tomorrow go out against them, for the Lord will be with you.

18 Then Jehoshaphat fell facedown on the ground, and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell down before the Lord, worshiping the Lord.

19 Then the Levites, the Kohathites and the Korhites, stood up to praise the Lord, the God of Israel, with a loud voice.

20 Early in the morning they went out to the wilderness of Tekoa. As they went out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, “Hear me, O Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem: Believe in the Lord your God, so shall you be established; believe his prophets, so shall you prosper.”

21 Then he took counsel with the people and appointed singers for the Lord, to praise the holy Majesty, going out before the armed men, and saying, “Praise the Lord, for his mercy endures forever.”

22 And at the time that they began to rejoice and praise, the Lord set ambushes against the children of Ammon and Moab and the people of Mount Seir, who had come against Judah, and they were routed.

23 For the children of Ammon and Moab rose up against the inhabitants of Mount Seir, to destroy and to annihilate them; and when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, they helped one another to destroy one another.

24 Then Judah came to the watchtower in the wilderness; and they looked at the multitude, and, behold, they were dead bodies lying on the ground, and not one escaped.

25 And Jehoshaphat and his people came to plunder their spoil, and found therein in abundance goods and dead bodies, and precious vessels, and took for themselves so much that they could not carry away any more: and they plundered the spoil for three days, for it was so much.

26 On the fourth day they assembled in the Valley of Beracah, for there they blessed the Lord. Therefore the name of that place was called the Valley of Beracah, to this day.

27 Then all the men of Judah and Jerusalem returned, with Jehoshaphat at their head, to come to Jerusalem with joy, for the Lord had made them rejoice over their enemies.

28 And they came to Jerusalem with psalteries, harps, and trumpets, to the house of the Lord.

29 And the fear of God fell upon all the kingdoms of the lands, when they heard that the Lord had fought against the enemies of Israel.

30 And the kingdom of Jehoshaphat was quiet, and his God gave him rest all around.

31 And Jehoshaphat reigned over Judah. He was thirty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty-five years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Azubah, the daughter of Shil.

32 And he walked in the way of Asa his father, and did not turn aside from it, doing that which was right in the eyes of the Lord.

33 Nevertheless the high places were not removed, because the people had not yet prepared their hearts for the God of their fathers.

34 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, first and last, are they not written in the record of Jehu the son of Hanani, who wrote them in the book of the kings of Israel?

35 But after this Jehoshaphat king of Judah allied himself with Ahaziah king of Israel, who did all wickedness.

36 And he allied himself with him to make ships to go to Tarshish: and they made ships at Ezion-geber.

37 But Eliezer the son of Dodavah of Mareshah prophesied against Jehoshaphat, saying, Because you have allied yourself with Ahaziah, the Lord has destroyed your works, so that they have not been able to go to Tarshish.
