 I kings 3

Solomon judges the cause of two women

Then two prostitute women came to the king and stood before him.
And one of the women said to him, Ah! My lord, this woman and I live in a house; and I had a son, living with her in that house.
And it came to pass on the third day after I was delivered, that this woman also had a son: we were together, no stranger was with us in the house, but we both in that house.
And this woman's son died in the night, because she had lain on him.
And she rose at midnight, and took my son from my side, thy handmaid sleeping, and laid him in my bosom.
And when I rose up in the morning to nurse my child, behold, he was dead: but when I looked at him in the morning, behold, it was not the son I had borne.
Then he said to another woman, No, but my son is the living one, and your son is the dead one. But she said, No, certainly: the dead is your son, and my son is the living. So they spoke before the king.
And the king said, This saith, This is my son that liveth, and thy son is the dead; and this other says, No, indeed; the dead is your son and my son is the living.
The king said, Bring me a sword. And they brought a sword before the king.
And the king said, Divide the living child into two parts: and give half to one, and half to the other.
But the woman whose son was living spoke to the king (for her bowels yearned for her son), and said, Ah! My lord, give him the living child, and by no means kill him. But the other said: Neither be yours nor mine; I shared it before.
Then the king answered and said, Give her the living child, and by no means kill him, for this is his mother.
And all Israel heard the judgment of the king, and they feared the king: for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him to do justice.
