II Samuel 22 Song of David in Thanksgiving

 II Samuel 22

Song of David in Thanksgiving

And David spake unto the LORD the words of this song, in the day that the LORD delivered him out of the hand of all his enemies, and out of the hand of Saul.

he said therefore, The Lord is my rock, and my stronghold, and my deliverer.

God is my rock I will trust in him: my shield, and the strength of my salvation, my high place, and my refuge. O my savior, from violence you saved me.

The Lord, worthy of praise, I invoked, and from my enemies I was delivered.

For the waves of death surrounded me: the torrents of Belial terrified me.

Ropes of hell bound me; they found me bonds of death.

When I was in distress, I called on the Lord, and I cried to my God: He heard my voice from his temple, and my cry reached his ears.

Then he shook and the earth shook, the foundations of the heavens moved and shook, because he was angry.

Smoke went up from his nostrils, and from his mouth a devouring fire: coals were kindled from him.

And he lowered the heavens, and came down: and darkness was under his feet.

And he ascended a cherub, and flew: and was seen on the wings of the wind.

And for tents he made darkness round about him: a gathering together of waters and clouds of heaven.

By the brightness of his presence coals of fire are kindled.

The Lord thundered from heaven, and the Most High uttered his voice.

And he shot arrows, and dissipated them: thunderbolts, and disturbed them.

And the depths of the sea appeared, the foundations of the world were uncovered: by the rebuke of the Lord; by the breath of the wind from their noses.

From on high he sent, and took me; he drew me out of many waters.

he delivered me from my powerful enemy and from those who hated me, because they were stronger than I.

They found me in the day of my calamity: but the Lord was my support.

And he drew me out into the open sea, and carried me away; because he took pleasure in me.

The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness: according to the cleanness of my hands he rewarded me.

For I have kept the ways of the Lord: and I have not wickedly departed from my God.

For all his judgments were before me: and I did not deviate from his statutes.

But I was sincere before him, and kept myself from iniquity.

And the Lord rewarded me according to my righteousness, according to my prayer in his eyes.

With a kind man you show yourself kind: with a sincere man you show yourself sincere.

With the pure you show yourself pure: but with the perverse you show yourself averse.

And the afflicted people thou shalt deliver: but thine eyes are upon the haughty, and thou shalt bring them low.

For thou, Lord, art my lamp: and the Lord enlighteneth my darkness.

For with you I pass through the midst of a squadron: by my God I jump over a wall.

The way of God is perfect, and the word of the Lord refined; and he is the shield of all who trust in him.

For who is God but the Lord? And who is a rock but our God?

God is my fortress and my strength, and he makes my way clear.

He makes my feet like the feet of a deer, and sets me on my heights.

Instruct my hands for battle, so that a bow of copper breaks through my arms.

Thou hast also given me the shield of thy salvation, and by thy gentleness thou hast made me great.

Thou hast made my steps wide under me, and my toes have not wavered.

I pursued my enemies, and defeated them, and never turned back until I consumed them.

And I consumed them, and pierced them through, so that they never rose again, but fell under my feet.

Because you have girded me with strength for battle, you have brought down those who rose up against me under me.

And you gave me the neck of my enemies, of those who hated me, and I destroyed them.

They looked, but there was no deliverer: yes, to the Lord, but he did not answer them.

Then grind them like the dust of the earth; like the mud of the streets I trod them and dissipated them.

Thou hast also delivered me from the strife of my people; you have kept me as the head of the nations; the people that I did not know will serve me.

The children of strangers were subject to me; hearing my voice, they obeyed me.

The children of strangers have fallen; and having girded themselves, they came out of their enclosures.

As the Lord lives, and blessed be my rock; and exalted be God, the rock of my salvation:

The God who gives me full vengeance and subdues the peoples under me.

And he who brings me out from among my enemies: and you exalt me above those who rise up against me; from the violent man you deliver me.

Therefore, O Lord, I will praise you among the nations, and I will sing praises to your name.

He is the tower of his king's salvation, and shows kindness to his anointed David, and to his seed forever.
