II Samuel 21 Four wars against the Philistines

 II Samuel 21

Four wars against the Philistines

15 And the Philistines had more battle with Israel: and David went down, and his servants with him: and they fought so much with the Philistines, that David was weary.

16 And Ishbi-Benob, who was of the giant's sons, whose spear was three hundred shekels of copper in weight, and who girded a new sword, intended to smite David.

17 But Abishai the son of Zeruiah helped him, and smote the Philistine, and slew him: so David's men swore to him, saying, Thou shalt never go out with us to battle any more, lest thou quench the lamp of Israel.

18 And it came to pass after this that there was yet another battle with the Philistines in Gob: then Sibecai the Hushathite smote Saph, which was of the giant's sons.

19 There was another battle with the Philistines in Gob: and Elhanan the son of Jaare-Oregim the Bethlehemite slew Goliath the Gittite, whose spear was the shaft like a weaver's organ.

20 There was also another battle in Gath, where there was a man of great stature, who had on each hand six fingers, and on each foot another six, twenty-four in all, and he too was born of a giant.

21 And he reviled Israel: but Jonathan the son of Shimea, David's brother, smote him.

22 These four were born to the giant in Gath: and they fell by the hand of David and by the hand of his servants.
