Samuel 22 Saul kills all Nob's priests

Samuel 22

Saul kills all Nob's priests

And Saul heard that David was already known and the men who were with him: and Saul was in Gibeah, under a grove, in Ramah, and he had his spear in his hand, and all his servants were with him.

Then Saul said to all his servants who were with him, "Hear, I beg of you, children of Benjamin, that the son of Jesse will also give you land and vineyards to all of you, and will make you all heads of thousands and heads of hundreds,

So that you all conspired against me? And there is no one to give me notice that my son has made a covenant with the son of Jesse, and none of you have to give me, and let me know, because my son has raised my servant against me, as a trap, as see yourself on this day.

Then answered Doeg the idumite, who was also with Saul's servants, and said, To the son of Jesse I saw come to Nob, to Aquimelech the son of Ahitub,

Who consulted the Lord for him, and gave him food, and also gave him the sword of Goliath, the Philistine.

Then the king sent for Achimelech the priest, the son of Ahitub, and for all his father's house, and for the priests who were in Nob; and they all came to the king.

And Saul said, Hear, I beg you, son of Ahitub. And he said: Here I am, my lord.

Then Saul said to him, Why did you conspire against me, you and the son of Jesse, because you gave him bread and a sword, and consulted God for him, that he might set me up against me, as he sees in this one? day?

And Aquimelech answered the king, and said, And who among all your servants is as faithful as David, the king's son-in-law, ready in his obedience, and honored in your house?

Did I begin today to consult God for him? away from me such! The king does not impose anything on his servant, nor on all of my father's house, for your servant knew nothing of all this, neither very nor very little.

But the king said, Aquimelech, you will surely die, you and all your father's house.

And the king said to his guards, who were with him, “Turn around, and kill the priests of the Lord, because your hand is also with David, and because they knew that he fled and did not let me know. But the king's servants did not want to extend their hands to attack the priests of the Lord.

Then the king said to Doeg, You turn around and attack the priests. Then Doeg the idum turned, and charged at the priests, and that day killed eighty-five men wearing linen ephod.

Also, Nob, the city of these priests, passed by the sword, from the man to the woman, from the boys to the breastfed ones, and even the voices, donkeys and sheep passed by the sword.
