Samuel 21 David goes to the Achimelech priest

Samuel 21

David goes to the Achimelech priest

Then David came to Nob, to the priest Achimelech; and Aquimelech, trembling, went out to meet David, and said to him, Why are you coming alone, and no one with you?

And David said to the priest Aquimelech, The king commissioned me a business, and he said to me, "No one should know about this business, which I commanded you about; as for the young men, I have appointed such a place."

Now, what do you have at hand? Give me five loaves of bread in my hand, or whatever you find.

And the priest answered David, and said, I have no ordinary bread at hand; but there is sacred bread, if only young men have abstained from women.

And David answered the priest, and said to him, Yes, in good faith, women have forbidden us since yesterday: and before yesterday, when I went out, the young men 's vessels were also holy: and in some way it is ordinary bread, how much more than today other vessels will be sanctified.

Then the priest gave him the holy bread, because there was other bread there than the bread of the proposition, which were taken out from before the Lord to be put there hot bread on the day that it was removed.

However, one of Saul's servants was held there that day, detained before the Lord, and his name was Doeg, idume, the most powerful of Saul's shepherds.

And David said to Achimelech, Have you no spear or sword at hand here? because I didn't bring my hand or my sword or my weapons, because the king's business was hurried.

And the priest said, The sword of Goliath, the Philistine, whom you struck in the valley of the oak, behold, it is wrapped in a cloth behind the ephod: if you want to take it, take it, because there is no other here, if not that. And David said, There is none like it; lady.
