Saul intends to kill David by cunning

17 Saul said to David, “Behold, my oldest daughter Merab, I will give you for a wife; she is only a worthy son to me, and she fights the wars of the Lord (because Saul said to herself: My hand should not be against him, but that of the Philistines).

18 But David said to Saul, Who am I, and what is my life and my father's family in Israel, to become the king's son-in-law?
