Judges 05 The song of Deborah

Judges 05
The song of Deborah
And Deborah and Barak the son of Abinoam sang that very day, saying,
Because the chiefs took the lead in Israel, because the people volunteered, praise the Lord.
Hear, kings; give ear, princes: I, I will sing to the Lord; I will chant to the Lord God of Israel.
O Lord, when you left Seir, walking from the field of Edrom, the earth shook; even the skies dripped: even the clouds dripped water.
The mountains melted before the Lord God of Israel.
In the days of Sangar, son of Anate, in the days of Jael, the paths of travel ceased and those walking along paths went on twisted paths.
The villages in Israel ceased, they ceased: until I, Deborah, arose as a mother in Israel, I arose.
And if new gods were chosen, soon the war was at hand: did a shield or spear be seen among forty thousand in Israel?
My heart is for the legislators of Israel, who voluntarily volunteered among the people; Praise the lord.
You who ride on white donkeys, who sit in judgment, and who walk along the way, speak of this.
Where the sound of the arrows is heard, between the places where water is drawn, there speak of the righteousness of the Lord of the righteousness he did to his villages in Israel: then the people of the Lord came down at the gates.
Wake up, wake up, Deborah: wake up, wake up, sing a song: get up, Barak, and take prisoners to your prisoners, you son of Abinoam.
Then the Lord dominated the splendid among the people, what was left: the Lord dominated me over the mighty.
From Ephraim its root came out against Amalek: and after you Benjamin came from among your people: from Maquir and Zebulun the lawmakers went down, passing by with the staff of the scribe.
The chiefs of Issachar, too, went with Deborah; and like Issachar, so too Barak, he was sent on foot into the valley: in the currents of Reuben the resolutions of the heart were great.
Why did you stay among the corrals to hear the bleating of the flocks? In the divisions of Reuben they had great searches of the heart.
Gilead stayed beyond the Jordan, and Dan why did he stop by ships? Aser sat in the sea ports, and stayed in its ruins.
Zebulun is a people who exposed their lives to death, as well as Naphtali, in the heights of the countryside.
Kings came, fought: then the kings of Canaan fought in Taanaque by the waters of Megiddo: they took no silver gain.
From the heavens they fought: even the stars from the places of their courses fought against Sisera.
The stream of Kishon drew them, that old stream, the stream of Kishom. You have thought, O my soul, of strength.
Then the horses' nails shattered: by the gallop of their mighty men.
Curse Meroz, says the angel of the Lord, further curse your inhabitants: because they did not come to the help of the Lord, to the help of the Lord with the mighty.
Blessed be the women Jael, wife of Héber, the Kenyan: blessed be the women in the tents.
He asked for water, she gave him milk: in a prince's bowl she offered him butter.
He stretched out his left hand at the stake, and the right hand at the sheaf of workers: and he killed Sisera, and cracked his head when he nailed him and went through the fountains.
Between his feet he bowed, fell, was stretched: between his feet he bowed, fell: where he bowed there he was struck down.
Sisera's mother looked out the window and exclaimed through the railing: Why does it take so long for your car to come? why are your car steps slow?
The wisest of your ladies answered; and even she answered herself:
Would they not find and share spoils? a girl or two to each man? for Sisera spoils of various colors, spoils of various colors of embroidery; of various colors embroidered from both bands, for the necks of the spoil?
So, O Lord, let all your enemies perish! But those who love him be like the sun when it comes out in its strength.
And the land was still forty years.
