1 इसके बाद अय्यूब ने अपना मुँह खोला और अपने दिन को धिक्कारा।

2 तब अय्यूब ने कहा,

3 वह दिन नष्ट हो जाए जब मैं पैदा हुआ, और वह रात भी नष्ट हो जाए जब कहा गया, 'एक आदमी गर्भ में है!'

4 वह दिन अन्धकारमय हो जाए; और ऊपर से परमेश्वर उसकी परवाह नहीं करता, न ही वह उस पर अपना प्रकाश डालता है।

5 अन्धकार और मृत्यु की छाया उसे अशुद्ध करें; बादलों को उस पर रहने दो; दिन के काले वाष्प उसे डराते हैं!

6 उस रात को अन्धकारमय होने दे, और वह वर्ष के दिनों में आनन्द न करने दे, और न महीनों की गिनती में प्रवेश करने दे!

7 आह! वह रात एकाकी हो और उसमें मधुर संगीत प्रवेश न करे!

8 जो लोग दिन को कोसते हैं, वे उसे कोसें, और जो फूट-फूट कर रोने को तैयार हैं।

9 उनके सांझ के तारे अंधकारमय हो जाएं; वह प्रकाश की प्रतीक्षा करे, और न आये; और भोर की आँखों की पलकें नहीं देखते!

10 क्योंकि उसने गर्भ के द्वार बन्द नहीं किये; न ही उसने मेरी आँखों से थकान छिपाई।

11 क्या मैं गर्भ ही से नहीं मर गया था? और क्या मैं गर्भ से बाहर आते ही प्राण नहीं छोड़ गया था?

12 घुटनों ने मुझे क्यों ग्रहण किया? और स्तन क्यों, ताकि वह दूध पी सके?

13 अब तो मैं लेटकर विश्राम करना चाहता हूं; मैं सो जाऊंगा, और फिर मुझे आराम मिलेगा,

14 पृथ्वी के राजाओं और मंत्रियों के साथ, जिन्होंने उजड़े हुए स्थानों में अपने घर बनाए हैं।

15 या उन हाकिमों के साथ जिनके पास सोना था, जिन्होंने अपने घरों को चाँदी से भर लिया था;

16 या, एक छिपे हुए गर्भपात के रूप में, ऐसी कोई बात नहीं होगी; उन बच्चों की तरह जिन्होंने कभी रोशनी नहीं देखी।

18 वहां बन्धुआ लोग इकट्ठे विश्राम करते हैं, और परिश्रम करानेवाले का शब्द नहीं सुनते;

19 वहाँ छोटे-बड़े सब रहते हैं, और दास अपने स्वामी से स्वतंत्र रहता है।

20 कंगालों को ज्योति और उदास मनवालों को जीवन क्यों दिया जाता है?

21 जो मृत्यु की बाट जोहते हैं, परन्तु वह आती नहीं, और उसकी खोज में छिपे हुए धन से भी अधिक खोदते हैं।

22 कौन कब्र पाकर आनन्द से उछलता और प्रसन्न होता है?

23 उस मनुष्य को ज्योति क्यों दी गई है जिसका मार्ग छिपा है, और जिस से परमेश्वर ने उसे छिपा रखा है?

24 क्योंकि रोटी से पहले मेरी सांस चलती है; और मेरी कराहें पानी की तरह बहती हैं।

25 क्योंकि जिस बात का मुझे डर था, वही मुझ पर आ पड़ी है; और जिसका मुझे डर था वही मेरे साथ हुआ।

26 मैं कभी चैन से नहीं रहा, न मुझे शान्ति मिली, न मुझे विश्राम मिला; परन्तु मुझ पर मुसीबत आ गयी है।

Job Curses His Birth and Laments His Misery

1 Then Job opened his mouth and cursed his day.

2 And Job spoke and said,

3 Let the day perish when I was born, and the night in which it was said, "A man is conceived!"

4 Let that day be turned into darkness; let God from above not care for it, nor let any light shine upon it.

5 Let darkness and the shadow of death defile it; let clouds dwell upon it; let the black vapors of the day terrify it!

6 Let darkness take possession of that night, and let it not rejoice among the days of the year, and let it not enter among the number of the months!

7 Oh, let that night be lonely, and let no sweet music enter it!

8 Let those who curse the day curse it, who are ready to let their mourning flow.

9 Let the stars of her twilight be darkened; let her wait for light, and not come; let her not see the eyelids of the morning!

10 Because she has not shut the doors of my womb; nor has she hidden my toil from my eyes.

11 Did I not die from the womb, and when I came forth I expired?

12 Why did the knees receive me? or the breasts, that I might suck?

13 For now I would lie down and be quiet; I would sleep, and then there would be rest for me,

14 With kings and counselors of the earth, who built themselves houses in the desolate places.

15 Or with princes who had gold, who filled their houses with silver;

16 Or like a hidden untimely birth, I would not be, like infants who never see the light.

17 There the wicked cease from troubling; and there the weary rest. 

18 There the prisoners rest together, and do not hear the voice of the taskmaster; 

19 There the small and the great are, and the servant is free from his master. 

20 Why is light given to the poor, and life to those who are bitter in spirit, 

21 Who wait for death, and it does not come; and dig for it more than for hidden treasures; 

22 Who leap for joy and are glad when they find the grave? 

23 Why is light given to a man whose way is hidden, and from whom God has hidden it? 

24 For my sighing comes before my food, and my groanings are poured out like water. 

25 For what I feared has come upon me, and what I dreaded has happened to me. 

26 I have not been at ease, nor have I rested, nor have I had rest; but trouble has come upon me.

1 Depois disto abriu Jó a sua boca, e amaldiçoou o seu dia.

2 E, Jó falando, disse:

3 Pereça o dia em que nasci, e a noite em que se disse: Foi concebido um homem!

4 Converta-se aquele dia em trevas; e Deus, lá de cima, não tenha cuidado dele, nem resplandeça sobre ele a luz.

5 Contaminem-no as trevas e a sombra da morte; habitem sobre ele nuvens; negros vapores do dia o espantem!

6 A escuridão tome aquela noite, e não se goze entre os dias do ano, e não entre no número dos meses!

7 Ah! Que solitária seja aquela noite e suave música não entre nela!

8 Amaldiçoem-na aqueles que amaldiçoam o dia, que estão prontos para fazer correr o seu pranto.

9 Escureçam-se as estrelas do seu crepúsculo; que espere a luz, e não venhas; e não veja as pestanas dos olhos da alva!

10 Porquanto não fechou as portas do ventre; nem escondeu dos meus olhos a canseira.

11 Porque não morri eu desde a madre, e em saindo do ventre, não expirei?

12 Por que me receberam os joelhos? E por que os peitos, para que mamasse?

13 Porque já agora jazeria e repousaria; dormiria, e então haveria repouso para mim,

14 Com os reis e conselheiros da terra, que para si edificavam casas nos lugares assolados.

15 Ou com os príncipes que tinham ouro, que enchiam as suas casas de prata;

16 Ou, como aborto oculto, não existiria; como as crianças que nunca viram a luz.

17 Ali os maus cessam de perturbar; e ali repousam os cansados.

18 Ali os presos juntamente repousam e não ouvem a voz do exator;

19 Ali está o pequeno e o grande, e o servo fica livre de seu senhor.

20 Por que se dá luz ao miserável, e vida aos amargurados de ânimo,

21 Que esperam a morte, e ela não vem: e cavam em procura dela mais do que de tesouros ocultos;

22 Que de alegria saltam, e exultam, achando a sepultura?

23 Por que se dá luz ao homem, cujo caminho é oculto, e a quem Deus o encobriu?

24 Porque antes do meu pão vem o meu suspiro; e os meus gemidos se derramam, como água.

25 Porque o que eu temia me veio; e o que receava me aconteceu.

26 Nunca estive descansado, nem sosseguei, nem repousei, mas veio sobre mim a perturbação.

1 फिर एक और दिन ऐसा आया, जब परमेश्वर के पुत्र यहोवा के साम्हने उपस्थित होने को आए, और शैतान भी उनके बीच यहोवा के साम्हने उपस्थित होने को आया।

2 तब यहोवा ने शैतान से पूछा, “तू कहाँ से आया है?” शैतान ने यहोवा को उत्तर दिया, कि पृथ्वी पर इधर उधर घूमते फिरते और डोलते-डालते आया हूँ।

3 तब यहोवा ने शैतान से पूछा, क्या तू ने मेरे दास अय्यूब पर ध्यान दिया है? क्योंकि उसके तुल्य खरा और सीधा और परमेश्वर का भय माननेवाला और बुराई से दूर रहनेवाला और अपनी खराई पर बना रहनेवाला मनुष्य और कोई नहीं है; यद्यपि तू ने मुझे अकारण उसका सत्यानाश करने को उभारा, तौभी तू ने मुझे उसका विरोध करके उसे सत्यानाश करने को उभारा है।

4 तब शैतान ने यहोवा को उत्तर दिया, कि खाल के बदले खाल, वरन प्राण के बदले मनुष्य अपना सब कुछ दे देगा।

5 परन्तु अपना हाथ बढ़ाकर उसकी हड्डियाँ और मांस छू, तब वह तेरे मुँह पर तेरी निन्दा करेगा।

6 तब यहोवा ने शैतान से कहा, देख, वह तेरे हाथ में है, तौभी तू उसका प्राण छोड़ देता है।

7 तब शैतान यहोवा के सामने से निकला और अय्यूब को पाँव के तलवे से लेकर सिर के ऊपर तक बड़े-बड़े फोड़ों से पीड़ित किया।

8 तब अय्यूब ने अपने घावों को खुजलाने के लिये एक खपरैल का टुकड़ा लिया, और राख पर बैठ गया।

9 तब उसकी पत्नी ने उससे कहा, क्या तू अब भी अपनी खराई पर बना है? तू परमेश्वर को धिक्कारता है, और मर जाता है।

10 उसने उससे कहा, “तू एक मूर्ख स्त्री की सी बातें करती है: हम परमेश्वर से भलाई लेते हैं, तो क्या हम बुराई न लें? इन सब बातों में भी अय्यूब ने अपने मुँह से कोई पाप नहीं किया।”

11 जब अय्यूब के तीन मित्रों ने उस पर पड़ी हुई सारी विपत्तियों के बारे में सुना, तब वे अपने-अपने स्थान से चले आए: अर्थात् तेमानी एलीपज, शूही बिलदद, और नामाती सोपर। और उन्होंने आपस में सहमति जताई कि हम उसके पास आएं और उसे सांत्वना दें और उसे सांत्वना दें।

12 जब उन्होंने दूर से आंखें उठाईं और उसे न पहचाना, तो ऊंचे शब्द से रोने लगे; और अपने अपने वस्त्र फाड़कर अपने अपने सिर पर से धूल उड़ाई।

13 और वे सात दिन और सात रात उसके साथ भूमि पर बैठे रहे; और किसी ने उससे एक शब्द भी नहीं कहा, क्योंकि उन्होंने देखा कि दर्द बहुत बड़ा था।

Job's Adversity and Cruel Affliction

1 On another day, when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, Satan also came among them to present himself before the Lord.

2 Then the Lord said to Satan, "Where have you come from?" Satan answered the Lord and said, "From going to and fro in the earth and from walking up and down in it."

3 Then the Lord said to Satan, "Have you considered my servant Job? For there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and an upright man, one who fears God and turns away from evil, and who still holds fast to his integrity, and yet you incited me against him to destroy him without cause."

4 Then Satan answered the Lord and said, "Skin for skin, and all that a man has he will give in exchange for his life."

5 But stretch out your hand and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse you to your face.

 6 And the Lord said to Satan, "Behold, he is in your power; but spare his life." 

7 Then Satan went out from the presence of the Lord and struck Job with a sore from the sole of his foot to the crown of his head. 

8 And Job took a piece of tile to scrape off the sores, and sat down in the ashes.

 9 Then his wife said to him, "Do you still retain your integrity? Curse God and die."

 10 But he said to her, "You speak like one of the foolish women. We shall receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil?" In all this Job did not sin with his lips. 

11 Now when Job's three friends heard of all the evil that had come upon him, they came each from his place: Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Namathite. And they agreed together to come and comfort him and to comfort him. 

12 And when they lifted up their eyes from afar, and recognized him not, they lifted up their voices and wept; and they tore each of their garments from over their heads, and threw dust into the air.

13 And they sat with him on the ground seven days and seven nights; and no one spoke a word to him, because they saw that his grief was very great.

1 E, vindo outro dia, em que os filhos de Deus vieram apresenta-se perante o Senhor, veio também Satanás entre eles apresentar-se perante o Senhor.

2 Então o Senhor disse a Satanás: Donde vens? E respondeu Satanás ao Senhor, e disse: De rodear a terra, e passear por ela.

3 E disse o Senhor a Satanás: Observaste o meu servo Jó? Porque ninguém há na terra semelhante a ele, homem sincero e reto, temente a Deus, desviando-se do mal, e que ainda retém a sua sinceridade, havendo-me tu incitado contra ele, para o consumir sem causa.

4 Então Satanás respondeu ao Senhor, e disse: Pele por pele, e tudo quanto o homem tem dará pela sua vida.

5 Estende, porém, a sua mão, e toca-lhe nos ossos, e na carne e verás se não blasfema de ti na tua face!

6 E disse o Senhor a Satanás: Eis que ele está na tua mão; poupa porém a sua vida.

7 Então saiu Satanás da presença do Senhor, e feriu a Jó duma chaga maligna, desde a planta do pé até ao alto da cabeça.

8 E Jó, tomando um pedaço de telha para raspar com ele as feridas, assentou-se no meio da cinza.

9 Então a sua mulher lhe disse: Ainda reténs a tua sinceridade? amaldiçoa a Deus, e morre.

10 Mas ele lhe disse: Como fala qualquer doida, assim falas tu; recebemos o bem de Deus, e não receberíamos o mal? Em tudo isto não pecou Jó com os seus lábios.

11 Ouvindo pois três amigos de Jó todo este mal que tinha vindo sobre ele, vieram cada um do seu lugar: Elifaz o temanita; e Bildade o suíta, e Sofar o namatita; e concertaram juntamente virem condoer-se dele, e consolá-lo.

12 E, levantando de longe os seus olhos e não o conhecendo, levantaram a sua voz e choraram; e rasgando cada um o seu manto sobre as suas cabeças lançaram pó ao ar.

13 E se assentaram juntamente com ele na terra, sete dias e sete noites; e nenhum lhe dizia palavra alguma, porque viam que a dor era muito grande.

7 तब यहोवा ने शैतान से पूछा, “तू कहाँ से आया है?” शैतान ने यहोवा को उत्तर दिया, कि पृथ्वी पर इधर उधर घूमते फिरते और डोलते-डालते आया हूँ।

13 एक दिन ऐसा हुआ कि उसके बेटे-बेटियाँ अपने बड़े भाई के घर में खा रहे थे और दाखमधु पी रहे थे।

14 तब एक दूत अय्यूब के पास आया और कहने लगा, “बैल हल चला रहे थे और गधे उनके पास चर रहे थे।

15 और देखो, शबाइयों ने उन पर हमला करके उन्हें पकड़ लिया, और उनके जवानों को तलवार से मार डाला; और मैं ही केवल समाचार देने के लिये भाग गया।

16 वह अभी बोल ही रहा था, कि एक और आया और कहने लगा, “परमेश्वर की आग स्वर्ग से गिरी और उसने भेड़ों और सेवकों को जलाकर भस्म कर दिया, और मैं अकेला बचकर तुझे समाचार देने आया हूँ।”

19 और देखो, जंगल की ओर से एक बड़ी आँधी आई, और घर के चारों कोनों को हिलाकर जवानों पर गिर पड़ी, और वे मर गए; और केवल मैं ही बचकर तुम्हें समाचार देने आया हूँ।

20 तब अय्यूब उठा, और अपने बागे फाड़, सिर मुंडा, और भूमि पर गिरकर दण्डवत् किया।

21 उसने कहा, मैं अपनी मां के पेट से नंगा निकला और वहीं नंगा लौट जाऊंगा; प्रभु ने दिया और प्रभु ने ले लिया; प्रभु के नाम की रहमत बरसे।

22 इन सब बातों में भी अय्यूब ने न तो पाप किया, और न परमेश्वर पर गलत आरोप लगाया।

Job's Virtue, Temptation, and Losses

1 There was a man in the land of Uz whose name was Job; and he was a blameless man, and an upright man, and one that feared God, and turned away from evil.

2 And there were born to him seven sons and three daughters.

3 And his livestock were seven thousand sheep, and three thousand camels, and five hundred yoke of oxen, and five hundred she-asses; and he had very many servants, so that he was the greatest of all the men of the east.

4 And his sons went and held feasts in their houses, each on his day; and they sent and invited their three sisters to eat and drink with them.

5 And it came to pass, when the days of their feasting were completed, that Job would send and sanctify them, and would rise early in the morning, and offer burnt offerings according to the number of them all: for Job said, “Perhaps my sons have sinned and blasphemed God in their hearts.” Thus Job did continually.

 6 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came among them. 

7 Then the Lord said to Satan, “Where have you come from?” Satan answered the Lord and said, “From going to and fro in the earth and from walking up and down in it.” 

8 Then the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job? For there is no one like him on the earth, a blameless and an upright man, one who fears God and turns away from evil.” 

9 Then Satan answered the Lord and said, “Does Job fear God for nothing? 

10 Have you not surrounded him and his household and all that he has with good things? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his livestock has increased in the land.

 11 But stretch out your hand and touch all that he has, and he will curse you to your face!

12 And the Lord said to Satan, "Behold, all that he has is in your power; only upon himself do not stretch out your hand." So Satan went out from the presence of the Lord.

13 And it came to pass on a day when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house,

14 That a messenger came to Job and said, "The oxen were plowing, and the donkeys were feeding beside them;

15 And, behold, the Sabeans fell upon them and took them away, and they slew the young men with the edge of the sword; and I only have escaped to tell the news."

 16 While he was still speaking, another came and said, "The fire of God fell from heaven and burned up the sheep and the servants and consumed them, and I alone have escaped to tell you." 

17 While he was still speaking, another came and said, "The Chaldeans set up three bands and attacked the camels and took them away, and they killed the servants with the edge of the sword; but I alone have escaped to tell you." 

18 While he was still speaking, another came and said, "Your sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house, 

19 and suddenly a great wind came from across the wilderness and struck the four corners of the house, and it fell on the young men, and they are dead; and I alone have escaped to tell you." 

20 Then Job arose, and tore his robe, and shaved his head, and fell to the ground, and worshipped. 

21 And he said, Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.

 22 In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God with wrong.

1 Havia um homem na terra de Uz, cujo nome era Jó; e este era homem sincero, reto e temente a Deus, e desviava-se do mal.

2 E nasceram-lhe sete filhos e três filhas.

3 E era o seu gado sete mil ovelhas, e três mil camelos, e quinhentas juntas de bois, e quinhentas jumentas; era também muitíssima a gente ao seu serviço de maneira que este homem era maior do que todos os do oriente.

4 E iam seus filhos, e faziam banquetes em casa de cada um no seu dia; e enviavam, e convidavam as suas três irmãs a comerem e beberem com eles.

5 Sucedeu pois que, tendo decorrido o turno de dias de seus banquetes, enviava Jó, e os santificava, e se levantava de madrugada, e oferecia holocausto segundo o número de todos eles; porque dizia Jó: Porventura pecaram meus filhos, e blasfemaram de Deus no seu coração. Assim o fazia Jó continuamente.

6 E vindo um dia em que os filhos de Deus vieram apresentar-se perante o Senhor, veio também Satanás entre eles.

7 Então o Senhor disse a Satanás: Donde vens? E Satanás respondeu ao Senhor, e disse: De rodear a terra, e passear por ela.

8 E disse o Senhor a Satanás: Observaste tu a meu servo Jó? Porque ninguém há na terra semelhante a ele, homem sincero e reto, temente a Deus, e desviando-se do mal.

9 Então respondeu Satanás ao Senhor e disse: Porventura teme Jó a Deus debalde?

10 Porventura não o cercaste tu de bens a ele, e a sua casa, e a tudo quanto tem? A obra de suas mãos abençoaste e o seu gado está aumentando na terra.

11 Mas estende a tua mão, e toca-lhe em tudo quanto tem, e verás se não blasfema de ti na tua face!

12 E disse o Senhor a Satanás: Eis que tudo quanto tem está na tua mão, somente contra ele não estendas a tua mão. E Satanás saiu da presença do Senhor.

13 E sucedeu um dia, em que seus filhos e suas filhas comiam, e bebiam vinho na casa de seu irmão primogênito,

14 Que veio um mensageiro a Jó, e lhe disse: Os bois lavravam, e as jumentas pasciam junto a eles;

15 E eis que deram sobre eles os sabeus, e os tomaram, e aos moços feriram ao fio da espada; e eu somente escapei, para trazer a nova.

16 Estando este ainda falando, veio outro e disse: Fogo de Deus caiu do céu, e queimou as ovelhas e os moços, e os consumiu, e só eu escapei, para te trazer a nova.

17 Estando ainda este falando, veio outro, e disse: Ordenando os caldeus três bandos, deram sobre os camelos, e os tomaram, e aos moços feriram ao fio da espada; e só eu escapei, para te trazer a nova.

18 Estando ainda este falando, veio outro, e disse: Estando teus filhos e tuas filhas comendo e bebendo vinho, em casa de seu irmão primogênito,

19 Eis que um grande vento sobreveio dalém do deserto, e deu nos quatro cantos da casa, a qual caiu sobre os mancebos, e morreram; e só eu escapei, para te trazer a nova.

20 Então Jó se levantou, e rasgou o seu manto, e rapou a sua cabeça, e se lançou em terra, e adorou,

21 E disse: Nu saí do ventre de minha mãe, e nu tornarei para lá; o Senhor o deu, e o Senhor o tomou; bendito seja o nome do Senhor.

22 Em tudo isto Jó não pecou, nem atribuiu a Deus falta alguma.

2 And all the acts of his power and his valor, and the greatness of Mordecai, whom the king promoted, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Media and Persia?

3 For Mordecai the Jew was next to King Ahasuerus, and great among the Jews, and in favor with the multitude of his brethren, seeking the good of his people, and prospering all his nation.

20 Then Mordecai wrote these things and sent letters to all the Jews who were in all the provinces of King Ahasuerus, both near and far,

21 Commanding them to observe the fourteenth day of the month Adar and the fifteenth day of the same yearly,

22 as the days on which the Jews had rest from their enemies, and the month that was turned from sorrow to joy, and from mourning to days of merrymaking; that they might make them days of feasting and gladness, and of sending gifts to one another and gifts to the poor.

23 So the Jews undertook to do what they had begun, and also what Mordecai had written to them.

24 For Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, the enemy of all the Jews, had planned to destroy the Jews; and had cast Pur, that is, the lot, to desolate and destroy them.

25 But when this came before the king, he sent letters that his evil plan, which he had devised against the Jews, might return upon his own head; and they hanged him and his sons on a gallows.

26 Therefore they called those days Purim, after the name of Pur. Therefore also because of all the words of that letter, and what they had seen concerning it, and what had happened to them,

27 The Jews confirmed and took upon themselves, and upon their descendants, and upon all who came near them, that they should not fail to observe these two days, according to what was written about them, and according to their appointed time, every year.

28 And that these days should be remembered and observed by every generation, family, province, and city, and that these days of Purim should be celebrated among the Jews, and that the memory of them should never cease among their descendants.

29 After this, Queen Esther, the daughter of Abigail, and Mordecai the Jew wrote with all their strength to confirm this letter of Purim a second time. 

30 And they sent letters to all the Jews in the one hundred and twenty-seven provinces of the kingdom of Ahasuerus, with words of peace and faithfulness. 

31 To confirm these days of Purim at their appointed times, as Mordecai the Jew and Queen Esther had established for them, and as they themselves had established for themselves and their descendants, concerning the fasting and the cry for it. 3

28 E que estes dias seriam lembrados e guardados por cada geração, família, província, e cidade, e que estes dias de purim se celebrariam entre os judeus, e que a memória deles nunca teria fim entre os de sua semente.

29 Depois disto, escreveu a rainha Ester, filha de Abigail, e Mardoqueu o judeu, com toda a força, para confirmarem segunda vez esta carta de purim.

30 E mandaram cartas a todos os judeus, às cento e vinte e sete províncias do reino de Assuero, com palavras de paz e fidelidade.

31 Para confirmarem estes dias de purim nos seus tempos determinados, como Mardoqueu, o judeu e a rainha Ester lhes tinham estabelecido, e como eles mesmos já o tinham estabelecido sobre si e sobre a sua semente, acerca de jejum e do seu clamor.

1 Now in the twelfth month, which is the month of Adar, on the thirteenth day of the same month, when the king's word came and his order to be carried out, on the day when the enemies of the Jews expected to overpower them, the opposite happened, for the Jews overpowered their enemies.

2 For the Jews gathered together in their cities throughout all the provinces of King Ahasuerus to lay hands on those who sought their harm; but no one was able to withstand them, for the terror of them fell upon all the people.

3 And all the princes of the provinces, and the satraps, and the governors, and those who did the king's work, helped the Jews, because the fear of Mordecai had fallen upon them.

4 For Mordecai was great in the king's house, and his fame went out into all the provinces; because the man Mordecai grew great.

5 So the Jews struck down all their enemies with the sword, with slaughter and destruction, and did whatever they wanted to those who hated them.

6 And in the citadel of Susa they killed and destroyed five hundred men of the Jews.

7 And Parsandatha, and Dalphon, and Aspatha,

8 And Poratha, and Adalia, and Aridatha,

9 And Parmashta, and Arisai, and Aridai, and Valzatha:

10 The ten sons of Haman the son of Hammedatha, the enemy of the Jews, were slain; but they laid no hand on the spoil.

11 That same day the number of those who were slain in the citadel of Susa came before the king.

12 And the king said to Queen Esther, In the citadel of Susa the citadel have killed and destroyed five hundred men of the Jews, and the ten sons of Haman: What should they do in the king's provinces? What then is your request? It shall be granted to you. Or what is your request again? It shall be done.

13 Then Esther said, "If it pleases the king, let it be granted to the Jews who are in Susa tomorrow that they may do as today has been commanded, and let them hang Haman's ten sons on a gallows."

18 The Jews who were in Susa also assembled on the thirteenth and fourteenth days of the same month, and rested on the fifteenth day of the same month, and made that day a day of feasting and gladness.

19 The Jews from the villages who lived in the towns also made the fourteenth day of the month Adar a day of gladness and feasting, and a day of merrymaking, and of sending gifts to one another.

2 Porque os judeus nas suas cidades, em todas as províncias do rei Assuero, se ajuntaram para pôr as mãos naqueles que procuravam o seu mal; e nenhum podia resistir-lhes, porque o seu terror caiu sobre todos aqueles povos.

3 E todos os maiorais das províncias, e os sátrapas, e os governadores, e os que faziam a obra do rei, auxiliavam os judeus porque tinha caído sobre eles o temor de Mardoqueu.

4 Porque Mardoqueu era grande na casa do rei, e a sua fama saía por todas as províncias; porque o homem Mardoqueu se ia engrandecendo.

5 Feriram pois os judeus a todos os seus inimigos, a golpes de espada, e com matança e destruição; e fizeram dos seus aborrecedores o que quiseram.

6 E na fortaleza de Susã mataram  e destruíram os judeus quinhentos homens.

7 Como também a Parsandata, e a Dalfom, e a Aspata,

8 E a Porata, e a Adália, e a Aridata,

9 E a Farmasta, e a Arisai, e a Aridai e a Valzata:

10 Os dez filhos de Hamã, filho de Hamedata, inimigo dos judeus, foram mortos; porém ao despojo não estenderam a mão.

11 No mesmo dia veio perante o rei o número dos mortos na fortaleza de Susã.

12 E disse o rei à rainha Ester: Na fortaleza de Susã mataram e destruíram os judeus quinhentos homens, e os dez filhos de Hamã; nas províncias do rei que fariam? Qual é pois a tua petição? E dar-se-te-à. Ou qual é ainda o teu requerimento? E far-se-à.

13 Então disse Ester: Se bem parecer ao rei, conceda-se também amanhã aos judeus que se acham em Susã que façam conforme ao mandado de hoje; e enforquem os dez filhos de Hamã numa forca.

14 Então disse o rei que assim se fizesse: e publicou-se um edito em Susã, e enforcaram os dez filhos de Hamã.

15 E reuniram-se os judeus que se achavam em Susã também no dia catorze do mês de Adar, e mataram em Susã a trezentos homens; porém ao despojo não estenderam a sua mão.

16 Também os demais judeus que se achavam nas províncias do rei se reuniram para se porem em defesa da sua vida, e tiveram repouso dos seus inimigos; e mataram dos seus aborrecedores setenta e cinco mil; porém o despojo não estenderam a sua mão.

17 Sucedeu isto no dia treze do mês de Adar, e repousaram no dia catorze do mesmo, e fizeram daquele dia, dia de banquete e de alegria.

18 Também os judeus, que se achavam em Susã se ajuntaram nos dias treze e catorze do mesmo, e repousaram no dia quinze do mesmo, e fizeram daquele dia dia de banquete e alegria.

19 Também os judeus das aldeias, que habitavam nas vilas, fizeram do dia catorze do mês de Adar dia de alegria e de banquetes, e dia de folguedo, e de mandarem presentes uns aos outros.

9 उसी समय, अर्थात् तीसरे महीने में, अर्थात् सीवान नाम महीने के तेईसवें दिन को, राजा के लेखक बुलाए गए, और जो कुछ मोर्दकै ने यहूदियों, अधिपतियों, हाकिमों और भारत से लेकर कूश तक के एक सौ सत्ताईस प्रान्तों के हाकिमों को आज्ञा दी थी, उसके अनुसार हर एक प्रान्त को उसके अक्षरों में और हर एक जाति को उसकी भाषा में लिखा गया; और यहूदियों को भी उसके पवित्र शास्त्र और उसकी भाषा में लिखा गया।

10 और वह राजा क्षयर्ष के नाम से लिखी गई, और उस पर राजा की अंगूठी की छाप लगाई गई; और वे चिट्ठियां राजा के अस्तबल के घोड़ों पर सवार होकर हरकारों के हाथ भेजी गईं।

11 राजा ने उस आदेश में हर नगर के यहूदियों को यह अधिकार दिया कि वे इकट्ठे होकर अपने प्राण बचाने के लिए खड़े हों, और उन लोगों और प्रान्तों की सारी सेनाओं को, जो उन पर आक्रमण करती हों, चाहे वे बच्चे हों या स्त्रियाँ, नष्ट करें, मार डालें और बरबाद कर दें, और उनकी लूट का माल लूट लें।

12 राजा क्षयर्ष के सब प्रान्तों में एक ही दिन, अर्थात् अदार नाम बारहवें महीने के तेरहवें दिन को।

13 और उस पत्र की नकलें सब प्रान्तों में घोषित करने की आज्ञा सब लोगों के पास भेजी गईं, कि यहूदी उस दिन अपने शत्रुओं से पलटा लेने के लिये तैयार रहें।

14 राजा के वचन से प्रेरित होकर राजा के अस्तबल के दूत तुरन्त बाहर गए, और यह आज्ञा शूशन के राजगढ़ में सुनाई गई।

15 तब मोर्दकै नीले और श्वेत रंग के राजसी वस्त्र, और सिर पर सोने का बड़ा मुकुट, और सूक्ष्म सनी और बैंजनी रंग का वस्त्र पहिने हुए राजा के सम्मुख से निकला; और शूशन नगर के लोग आनन्दित और मगन हुए।

16 और यहूदियों के लिये ज्योति, और आनन्द, और हर्ष, और आदर हुआ।

17 हर एक प्रान्त और हर एक नगर में, जहाँ कहीं राजा का वचन और उसकी आज्ञा पहुँची, वहाँ यहूदियों में आनन्द और खुशी हुई, और जेवनारें और आनन्द के दिन मनाये गये। और उस देश के बहुत से लोग यहूदी बन गये; क्योंकि यहूदियों का भय उन पर छा गया था।

The King Gives Mordecai an Edict in Favor of the Jews

1 That same day King Ahasuerus gave Queen Esther the house of Haman, the enemy of the Jews; and Mordecai came before the king, because Esther had declared what was his.

2 Then the king took off his signet ring, which he had taken from Haman, and gave it to Mordecai. And Esther put Mordecai in charge of Haman's house.

3 Then Esther spoke before the king, and fell at his feet, and wept, and begged him to reverse the evil of Haman the Agagite, and his plan which he had devised against the Jews.

4 Then the king held out the golden scepter to Esther. Then Esther arose and stood before the king,

 5 and said, "If it pleases the king, and if I have found favor in his eyes, and if the matter is right in the king's eyes, and if I please him, let it be written to revoke the letters and the plan of Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, which he wrote to destroy the Jews who are in all the king's provinces. 

6 For how can I see the evil that will come upon my people? And how can I see the destruction of my generation?" 

7 Then King Ahasuerus said to Queen Esther and to Mordecai the Jew, "Behold, I have given Esther the house of Haman, and they have hanged him on a gallows, because he wanted to lay hands on the Jews.

 8 I will therefore write to the Jews as it pleases you, in the king's name, and seal it with the king's ring; For a writing that is written in the king's name and sealed with the king's ring cannot be revoked.

9 Then the king's scribes were called at that time, in the third month (that is, the month of Sivan), on the twenty-third day of the same month, and it was written according to all that Mordecai commanded the Jews, and the satraps, and the governors, and the princes of the provinces that extend from India to Ethiopia, one hundred and twenty-seven provinces, to each province according to its writing, and to each people according to their language, and to the Jews according to their writing, and according to their language.

10 And it was written in the name of King Ahasuerus, and it was sealed with the king's ring; and the letters were sent by the hand of couriers on horseback, riding on horseback, which were the king's stables. 

11 In it the king gave orders to the Jews who were in every city to assemble and stand ready to defend their lives, and to destroy, kill and lay waste all the forces of the people and provinces that pressed against them, children and women, and to plunder their spoils, 

12 on one day in all the provinces of King Ahasuerus, on the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month of Adar. 

13 And a copy of the letter, that an order should be announced in all the provinces, was sent to all the people, so that the Jews would be ready against that day to take revenge on their enemies. 

14 The couriers on horseback from the king's stables went out in haste, urged by the king's word: and this order was published in the citadel of Susa. 

15 Then Mordecai went out from the presence of the king in royal apparel of blue and white, and with a great crown of gold, and with a garment of fine linen and purple: and the city of Susa rejoiced and was glad. 

16 And there was light, and gladness, and joy, and honour, for the Jews. 

17 And in every province, and in every city, wherever the king's word and his command came, there was joy and gladness among the Jews, feasting and days of rejoicing; and many of the people of the land became Jews, for the fear of the Jews had fallen upon them.
