Davi faz aliança com Hirão

 

1 Então Hirão, rei de Tiro, mandou mensageiros a Davi, e madeira de cedro, e pedreiros, e carpinteiros, para lhe edificar uma casa.

2 E entendeu Davi que o Senhor o tinha confirmado rei sobre Israel; porque o seu reino se tinha muito exaltado por amor do seu povo Israel.

3 E Davi tomou ainda mais mulheres em Jerusalém: e gerou Davi ainda mais filhos e filhas.

4 E estes são os nomes dos filhos que tinha em Jerusalém: Sâmua, e Sobabe, Natã, e Salomão.

5 E Jibar, e Elisua. E Elpelete,

6 ENogá, e Nefegue, e Jafia,

7 E Elisama, e Beeliada, e Elifelete.

8 Ouvindo pois os filisteus que Davi havia sido ungido rei sobre todo  Israel, todos os filisteus subiram em busca de Davi: o que Davi, logo saiu contra eles.

9 E vindo os filisteus, se estenderam pelo vale de Rafaim.

10 Então consultou Davi a Deus, dizendo: Subirei contra os filisteus, e nas minhas mãos os entregarás? E o Senhor lhe disse: Sobe, porque os entregarei nas tuas mãos.

11 E, subindo a Baal-Perazim, Davi ali os feriu; e disse Davi: Por minha mão Deus derrotou a meus inimigos, como a rotura das águas. Pelo que chamaram o nome daquele lugar, Baal-Perazim.

12 E deixaram ali seus deuses; e ordenou Davi que se queimassem no fogo.

13 Porém os filisteus tornaram, e se estenderam pelo vale.

14 E tornou Davi a consultar a Deus; e disse-lhe Deus: Não subirás atrás deles; mas anda em roda por detrás deles, e vem a eles por defronte das amoreiras;

15 E há de ser que, ouvindo tu um ruído de andadura pelas copas das amoreiras, então sai à peleja; porque Deus haverá saído diante de ti, a ferir o exército dos filisteus.

16 E fez Davi como Deus lhe ordenara: e feriram o exército dos filisteus desde Gibeom até Gazor.

17 Assim se espalhou o nome de Davi por todas aquelas terras: e o Senhor pôs o seu temor sobre todas aquelas gentes.

1 Then David consulted with the captains of thousands and hundreds, and with all the princes.

2 And David said to all the assembly of Israel, "If it seems good to you, and that it is from the LORD our God, let us send messengers quickly to all our brethren who are left in all the land of Israel, and to the priests and Levites who are with them in the cities and their suburbs, that they may assemble with us.

3 And let us bring back the ark of our God to us; for we did not seek it in the days of Saul."

4 Then all the assembly said, "So it should be done, for the thing seemed right in the eyes of all the people."

5 So David gathered all Israel together, from Shihor in Egypt as far as you come to Hamath, to bring up the ark of God from Kiriath-jearim.

6 Then David and all Israel went up to Baalah, and from there to Kiriath-jearim, which is in Judah, to bring up from there the ark of God, the Lord who dwells between the cherubim, who is called by his name.

7 And they brought the ark of God on a new cart from the house of Abinadab, with Uzzah and Ahio driving the cart.

8 And David and all Israel rejoiced before God with all their might, with songs, with harps, with psalteries, with timbrels, with cymbals, and with trumpets.

9 And when they came to the threshing floor of Chidon, Uzzah stretched out his hand to take hold of the ark, because the oxen stumbled.

10 Then the anger of the Lord was kindled against Uzzah, and he struck him down because he had put his hand to the ark; and he died there before God. 

11 And David was grieved because the Lord had made a breach in Uzzah; therefore he called that place Perez-uzzah, to this day.

12 And David was afraid of the Lord that day, saying, How shall I bring the ark of God home to me?

13 So David did not bring the ark home to the city of David, but removed it to the house of Obed-edom the Gittite.

14 So the ark of God remained with the household of Obed-edom in his house three months: and the Lord blessed the house of Obed-edom, and all that he had.

21 These helped David against the band of men, for they were all mighty men of valor, and were captains in the army.

1 Estes porém são os que vieram a Davi, a Siclague, estando ele ainda encerrado, por causa de Saul filho de Quis; e eram dos valentes que ajudaram nesta guerra.

2 Armados de arco, e usavam da mão direita e esquerda em atirar pedras e em despedir flechas com o arco: eram estes dos irmãos de Saul, benjamitas.

3 Aiezer, o chefe, e Joás, filho de Semaa, o gibeatita, e Jeziel e Pelete, filhos de Azmavete, e Beraca, e Jeú, o anatotita,

4 E Ismaías, o gibeonita, valente entre  os trinta, e capitão dos trinta, e Jeremias, e Jaaziel, e Joanã, e Jozabade, o gederatita,

5 Eluzai, e Jerimote, e Bealias, e Semarias, e Sefatias, o harufita,

6 Elcana, e Issias, e Azareel, e Joezer, e Jasobeão, os coraítas,

7 E Joela, e Zebadias, filhos de Jeroão de Gedor

8 E dos gatitas se retiraram a Davi, ao lugar forte no deserto, varões valentes, homens de guerra para pelejar, armados com rodelas e lança: e seus rostos eram como rostos de leões, e ligeiros como corças sobre os montes:

18 Então entrou o espírito em Amasai, chefe de trinta, e disse: Nós somos teus, ó Davi e contigo estamos, ó filho de Jesse! Paz, paz contigo! E paz com quem te ajuda! Pois que teu Deus te ajuda. E Davi os recebeu, e os fez capitães das tropas.

19 Também de Manassés alguns passaram a Davi, quando veio com os filisteus, para a batalha contra Saul, ainda que não os ajudaram; porque os príncipes dos filisteus, com conselho, o despediram, dizendo: Á custa de nossas cabeças passará a Saul, seu senhor.

20 Voltando ele pois a Siclague, passaram para ele, de Manassés, Adna, e Jozabade, e Jediael, e Micael, e Josabade, e Eliú, e Ziletai, chefes de milhares dos de Manassés.

The mighty men whom David had

10 These were the chiefs of the mighty men whom David had, who supported him strongly in his kingdom, with all Israel, to make him king, according to the word of the Lord concerning Israel.

11 These were among the mighty men whom David had: Jashobeam the Hathomite, chief of the captains, who swung his spear against three hundred, and slew them at one time.

12 And after him was Eleazar the son of Dodo the Ahohite: he was among the three men.

13 He was with David at Pas-dammim, when the Philistines were gathered together for battle; and the field was full of barley: and the people fled before the Philistines.

14 And they stood in the midst of the field, and defended it, and smote the Philistines: and the Lord wrought a great victory.

15 And three of the thirty chiefs went down to the rock to David, to the cave of Adullam: and the host of the Philistines was encamped in the valley of Rephaim. 

16 And David was then in the stronghold: and the garrison of the Philistines was at that time in Bethlehem. 

17 And David desired, and said, Who will give me to drink of the water of the well of Bethlehem, which is by the gate?

 18 So those three broke through the host of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem, which was by the gate; and they took it, and brought it to David: but David would not drink it, but poured it out before the LORD. 

19 And he said, My God forbid that I should do such a thing! Shall I drink the blood of these men with their lives? for they brought it at the risk of their lives. But he would not drink it. These things did those three mighty men. 

20 And Abishai the brother of Joab was chief of the three, who swung his spear at three hundred, and slew them; and he had a name among the three. 

21 Of the three he was more honorable than the other two, so he was chief of them; but he did not attain to the first three. 

22 And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the son of a mighty man of Kabzeel, who slew two strong lions of Moab; and he also went down and slew a lion in the midst of a den in the snow. 

23 And he slew an Egyptian, a man of great stature, five cubits tall; and the Egyptian had a spear in his hand, like a weaver's beam; and he went down to him with a staff, and plucked the spear out of the Egyptian's hand, and slew him with his own spear. 

24 These things did Benaiah the son of Jehoiada; therefore he had a name among the three.

25 Of the thirty he was the most honorable, yet he did not attain to the three: and David put him in charge of his guard. 

26 And the mighty men of the armies were: Asahel the brother of Joab, Elhanan the son of Dodo of Bethlehem, 

27 Shammoth the Harodite, Helez the Pelonite, 

28 Ira the son of Ikkesh the Tekoite, Abiezer the Anathothite, 

29 Sibbecai the Hushathite, Ilahi the Ahohite,

10 E estes foram os chefes dos heróis que Davi tinha, e que o apoiaram fortemente no seu reino, com todo o Israel, para o fazerem rei, conforme a palavra do Senhor, tocante a Israel.

11 E estes foram no número dos heróis que Davi tinha: Jasobeão, hactomita, o principal dos capitães, o qual brandindo a sua lança contra trezentos, duma vez os matou.

12 E, depois dele, Eleazar, filho de Dodó, o aoíta: ele estava entre os três varões.

13 Este esteve com Davi em Pas-Damim, quando os filisteus ali se ajuntaram à peleja, e o pedaço de campo estava cheio de cevada: e o povo fugiu de diante dos filisteus.

19 E disse: Nunca meu Deus permita que faça tal! Beberia eu do sangue destes varões com as suas vidas? Pois com perigo das suas vidas a trouxeram. E ele não a quis beber: Isto fizeram aqueles três valentes.

20 E também Abisai, irmão de Joabe, foi chefe de três, o qual, brandindo a sua lança contra trezentos, os feriu: e teve nome entre os três.

21 Dos três foi o mais ilustre do que os outros dois, pelo que foi chefe deles; porém não chegou aos primeiros três.

22 Também Benaia, filho de Joiada, filho de um valente varão, grande em obras, de Cabseel: ele feriu a dois fortes leões de Moabe; e também desceu, e feriu um leão dentro duma cova, no tempo da neve.

23 Também feriu ele a um homem egípcio, homem de grande altura, de cinco côvados: e trazia o egípcio uma lança na mão, como o órgão do tecelão; mas desceu contra ele com uma vara, e arrancou a lança da mão do egípcio, e o matou com a sua própria lança.

24 Estas coisas fez Benaia, filho de Joiada; pelo que teve nome entre aqueles três varões.

25 Eis que dos trinta foi ele o mais ilustre; contudo não chegou aos três: e Davi o pôs sobre os da sua guarda.

David is anointed king

1 Then all Israel gathered to David at Hebron, saying, "Behold, we are your bone and your flesh."

2 And in the past, when Saul was king, you were the one who led Israel out and brought them in. The Lord your God said to you, "You shall shepherd my people Israel, and you shall be ruler over my people Israel."

3 Then all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and David made a covenant with them at Hebron before the Lord, and they anointed David king over Israel, according to the word of the Lord through Samuel.

4 Then David and all Israel set out for Jerusalem, which is Jebus, because the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land, were there.

5 And the inhabitants of Jebus said to David, "You shall not come in here." But David took the stronghold of Zion, which is the city of David.

6 For David said, "Whoever first defeats the Jebusites shall be chief and captain." So Joab the son of Zeruiah went up first, and he was made chief.

7 And David lived in the stronghold; therefore it was called the City of David.

8 And he built the city all around, from Millo to the circuit; and Joab renovated the rest of the city.

9 And David grew greater and greater, for the LORD of hosts was with him.

2 E também já dantes, sendo Saul ainda rei, eras tu o que fazias sair e entrar a Israel: também o Senhor teu Deus te disse: Tu apascentarás o meu povo Israel, e tu serás chefe sobre o meu povo Israel.

3 Também vieram todos anciãos de Israel ao rei, a Hebrom, e Davi fez com eles aliança em Hebrom, perante o Senhor: e ungiram a Davi rei sobre Israel, conforme a palavra do Senhor pelo ministério de Samuel.

4 E partiu Davi e todo o Israel para Jerusalém, que é Jebus: porque ali estavam os jebuseus, moradores da terra.

The Death of Saul and His Sons

1 Now the Philistines fought with Israel, and the men of Israel fled before the Philistines, and fell wounded on Mount Gilboa.

2 And the Philistines pressed Saul and his sons, and the Philistines slew Jonathan, Abinadab, and Malchishua, Saul's sons.

3 And the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers found him; and he was greatly afraid of the archers.

4 Then Saul said to his armor-bearer, "Draw your sword and thrust me through with it, lest these uncircumcised men come and mock me." But his armor-bearer would not, for he was greatly afraid. So Saul took his sword and fell on it.

5 And when his armor-bearer saw that Saul was dead, he also fell on his sword and died.

6 So Saul and his three sons died, and all his household died together.

7 When all the men of Israel who were in the valley saw that they had fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they abandoned their cities and fled. Then the Philistines came and lived in them.

8 On the next day, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, they found Saul and his sons fallen on Mount Gilboa.

9 They stripped him and took his head and his armor and sent them throughout the land of the Philistines to tell their idols and the people.

10 They put his armor in the house of their god, and his head they set in the house of Dagon. 

11 When all Jabesh-gilead heard of everything the Philistines had done to Saul, 

12 all the fighting men arose and took away the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons and brought them to Jebez. They buried his bones under an oak in Jabez and fasted for seven days. 

13 So Saul died for his trespass against the LORD, for the word of the LORD, which he had not kept, and because he had consulted a medium to inquire of her. 

14 He did not seek the LORD, so he killed him and turned the kingdom over to David son of Jesse.

2 E os filisteus, apertaram com Saul e com seus filhos, e feriram os filisteus a Jônatas, e a Abinadabe, e a Malquisua, filhos de Saul.

3 E a peleja se agravou contra Saul, e os flecheiros o acharam: e temeu muito aos flecheiros.

4 Então disse Saul ao seu escudeiro: Arranca a tua espada, e atravessa-me com ela; para que porventura não venham estes incircuncisos e escarneçam de mim. Porém o seu escudeiro não quis, porque temia muito; então tomou Saul a espada, e se lançou sobre ela.

5 Vendo pois o seu escudeiro que Saul estava morto, também se lançou sobre a espada, e morreu.

6 Assim morreram Saul e seus três filhos; e toda a sua casa morreu juntamente.

7 E, vendo todos os homens de Israel, que estavam no vale, que haviam fugido, e que Saul e seus filhos eram mortos, deixaram as suas cidades, e fugiram: então vieram os filisteus, e habitaram nelas.

8 E sucedeu que, no dia seguinte, vindo os filisteus a despojar os mortos, acharam a Saul e a seus filhos estirados nas montanhas de Gilboa.

9 E o despojaram, e tomaram a sua cabeça e as suas armas, e as enviaram pela terra dos filisteus em redor, para o anunciarem a seus ídolos e ao povo.
