II Kings 20 The Embassy of the King of Babylon

 II Kings 20

The Embassy of the King of Babylon

12 At that time Berodach-Baladan the son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a present to Hezekiah, for he had heard that Hezekiah had been sick.

13 And Hezekiah listened to them and showed them all his treasure house, the silver, and the gold, and the spices, and the precious ointments, and his armory, and all that was found in his treasures. There was nothing that he did not show them, either in his house or in all his dominion.

14 Then Isaiah the prophet came to King Hezekiah and said to him, “What did these men say, and where did they come from to you?” And Hezekiah said, “They came from a far country, from Babylon.”

15 And he said, “What did they see in your house?” And Hezekiah said, They have seen all that is in my house; there is nothing among my treasures that I have not shown them.

16 Then Isaiah said to Hezekiah, Hear the word of the Lord.

17 Behold, the days are coming, that all that is in your house, and that which your fathers have laid up in store to this day, shall be carried to Babylon; not a thing shall be left, saith the Lord.

18 And even of your sons that shall come out of you, whom you shall beget, they shall take away, and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.

19 Then Hezekiah said to Isaiah, The word of the Lord that you have spoken is good. And he said, Shall not my days be peace and truth? 20 Now the rest of the acts of Hezekiah, and all his might, and how he made the pool and the conduit, and brought water into the city, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

21 And Hezekiah slept with his fathers: and Manasseh his son reigned in his stead.

II Reis 20 A embaixada do rei de Babilônia

II Reis 20

A embaixada do rei de Babilônia

16 Então disse Isaías a Ezequias: Ouve a palavra do Senhor.

II Kings 20 Hezekiah falls ill

 II Kings 20

Hezekiah falls ill

1 In those days Hezekiah became sick to death. And Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, came to him and said to him, “Thus says the Lord: Put your household in order, for you will die and not live.”

2 Then he turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord, saying,

3 “Oh, Lord, remember that I have walked before you in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done what is right in your eyes.” And Hezekiah wept bitterly.

4 Before Isaiah had gone out of the middle of the courtyard, the word of the Lord came to him:

5 “Return and tell Hezekiah, the leader of my people, ‘Thus says the Lord, the God of your father David: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears. Behold, I will heal you. On the third day you shall go up to the house of the Lord.

6 And I will add fifteen years to your days, and I will deliver you and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria; and I will defend this city for my own sake and for the sake of David my servant.

7 And Isaiah said, Take a lump of figs. And they took it, and laid it on the wound; and he was healed.

8 And Hezekiah said to Isaiah, What is the sign that the Lord will heal me, and that I will go up to the house of the Lord on the third day?

9 And Isaiah said, This shall be the sign unto you from the Lord, that the Lord will do the thing that he hath spoken: Shall the shadow go forward ten degrees, or go back ten degrees?

10 And Hezekiah said, It is easy for the shadow to go down ten degrees; no, but the shadow will go back ten degrees. 11 Then Isaiah the prophet cried out to the Lord, and he turned the shadow back ten degrees, according to the degrees it had gone down on the sundial of Ahaz.

II Reis 20 Ezequias adoece

II Reis 20

Ezequias adoece

II Kings 19 God Strikes the Assyrians and Delivers Judah

 II Kings 19

God Strikes the Assyrians and Delivers Judah

35 And it came to pass that night, that the angel of the LORD went out, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians an hundred and eighty-five thousand: and when he rose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead bodies.

36 Then Sennacherib king of Assyria departed, and went and returned, and dwelt in Nineveh.

37 And it came to pass, when he was worshipping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adram-melech and Sharezer his sons smote him with the sword: but they escaped into the land of Ararat: and Esarhaddon his son reigned in his stead.

II Reis 19 Deus fere os assírios e livra Judá

II Reis 19

II Kings 19 Isaiah Comforts Hezekiah

 II Kings 19

Isaiah Comforts Hezekiah

20 Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying, “Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: I have heard your request concerning Sennacherib king of Assyria.

21 This is the word that the Lord spoke to him: The virgin daughter of Zion despises you and mocks you; the daughter of Jerusalem shakes her head behind you.

22 Whom have you defied and blasphemed? And against whom have you lifted up your voice and lifted up your eyes on high? Against the Holy One of Israel?

23 By your messengers you have defied the Lord and said, ‘I will go up with my many chariots to the heights of the mountains, to the sides of Lebanon; I will cut down its tall cedars and its beautiful fir trees; I will enter its outermost dwellings, even to the forest of its fruitful fields.

24 I have dug and drunk strange waters, and with the soles of my feet I will dry up all the rivers of the fortified places.

25 Have you not heard that I have done this before, and that I have formed it in ancient times? But now I have brought it about that you should make the fortified cities into desolate heaps.

26 Therefore their inhabitants have shortened their hands, and are astonished and confounded; they are like the grass of the field, and the green herb, and the hay on the housetops, and the corn that is burned before it rises.

27 But I know your sitting down, and your going out, and your coming in, and your fury against me.

28 Because of your fury against me, and because your rebellion has come up into my ears, therefore I will put my hook in your nose, and my bridle in your lips, and I will turn you back by the way by which you came.

29 And this shall be a sign unto thee; This year thou shalt eat that which groweth of itself, and the second year that which springeth of it; but in the third year sow, and reap, and plant vineyards, and eat their fruit.

30 For the remnant of the house of Judah that is escaped, and is left, shall again take root downward, and bear fruit upward.

31 For out of Jerusalem shall come forth the remnant, and out of mount Zion the zeal of the LORD shall do this.

32 Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning the king of Assyria, He shall not come into this city, nor shoot an arrow there; neither shall he come before it with a shield, nor cast up a siege against it.

33 By the way that he came, by that he shall return; but he shall not come into this city, saith the LORD.

34 For I will defend this city, to save it, for mine own sake, and for the sake of my servant David.

II Reis 19 Isaías conforta Ezequias

II Reis 19

22 A quem afrontaste e blasfemaste?

27 Porém o teu assentar, e o teu sair e o teu entrar, eu o sei, e o teu furor contra mim.

II Kings 19 Hezekiah Prays in the House of the Lord

 II Kings 19

Hezekiah Prays in the House of the Lord

1 When Hezekiah heard it, he tore his clothes and covered himself with sackcloth and went into the house of the Lord.

2 Then he sent Eliakim, who was over the household, Shebna the scribe, and the elders of the priests, covered with sackcloth, to Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz.

3 And they said to him, “Thus says Hezekiah: This day is a day of trouble and of reproach and blasphemy, because the children have come to term, and there is no strength to bear them.

4 It may be that the Lord your God will hear all the words of Rabshakeh, whom the Lord, the king of Assyria, has sent to reproach the living God and to reproach him with the words that the Lord your God has heard. Therefore pray for the remnant that is left.

5 Then the servants of King Hezekiah came to Isaiah.

6 And Isaiah said to them, "Thus you shall say to your Lord; thus says the Lord: Do not be afraid of the words that you have heard, with which the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed me.

7 Behold, I will put a spirit within him, and he shall hear a noise, and he shall return to his own land; and I will cause him to fall with the sword in his own land."

8 So Rabshakeh returned, and found the king of Assyria fighting against Libnah, for he had heard that he had departed from Lachish.

9 And when he heard from Tirhakah king of Cush, saying, "Behold, he is come out to fight against you," he sent messengers again to Hezekiah, saying,

10 Thus you shall speak to Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, "Let not your God, in whom you trust, deceive you, saying, 'Jerusalem shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.'

11 Behold, you have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all the lands, destroying them utterly; will you deliver yourself?

12 Have the gods of the nations delivered them, whom they have destroyed, like Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the children of Eden, who were in Telassar?

13 What has become of the king of Hamath, and of the king of Arpad, and of the king of the city of Sepharvaim, of Hena, and of Ivvah?

14 So Hezekiah received the letters from the messengers and read them, and went up to the house of the Lord, and Hezekiah spread them out before the Lord.

15 And Hezekiah prayed before the Lord, and said, O God of Israel, who dwellest between the cherubim, thou, thou alone, hast made heaven and earth.

16 Incline thine ear, O Lord, and hear: Open your eyes, O Lord, and see; and hear the words of Sennacherib, whom he sent to defy the living God.

17 It is true, O Lord, that the kings of Assyria are destroying the nations and the lands.

18 They have cast their gods into the fire, for they were no gods, but the work of men's hands, wood and stone; therefore they have destroyed them.

19 Now therefore, O Lord our God, be pleased to deliver us out of their hand; and all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you alone are the Lord God.

II Reis 19 Ezequias ora na casa do Senhor

II Reis 19

29 राजा यों कहता है, हिजकिय्याह तुम को धोखा न दे; क्योंकि वह तुम्हें अपने हाथ से बचा न सकेगा;

II Kings 18 Sennacherib invades Judah

 II Kings 18

Sennacherib invades Judah

13 But in the fourteenth year of King Hezekiah, Sennacherib king of Assyria came up against all the fortified cities of Judah and captured them.

14 Then Hezekiah king of Judah sent to the king of Assyria at Lachish, saying, "I have sinned; depart from me; whatever you impose on me I will take." Then the king of Assyria imposed on Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold.

15 So Hezekiah gave all the silver that was found in the house of the Lord and in the treasuries of the king's house.

16 At that time Hezekiah cut off the gold from the doors of the temple of the Lord and from the doorposts that Hezekiah king of Judah had overlaid, and gave it to the king of Assyria.

17 And the king of Assyria sent Tartan, and Rabsaris, and Rabshakeh, from Lachish, with a great army, to King Hezekiah, to Jerusalem: and they went up, and came to Jerusalem: and as they went up and came, they stood by the conduit of the upper pool, which is by the way of the fuller's field.

18 And they called the king: and Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, which was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph, the recorder, came out to them.

19 And Rabshakeh said unto them, Tell Hezekiah, Thus saith the great king, the king of Assyria, What confidence is this in which thou trustest?

20 Thou sayest (but the word of thy lips is), There is counsel and power for war. In whom then do thou trust now, that thou rebellest against me?

21 Now you trust in Egypt, a staff of broken reeds; if anyone leans on it, it will go through his hand and pierce it. This is how Pharaoh king of Egypt is to all who trust in him.

22 But if you say to me, ‘We trust in the Lord our God,’ is this not the one whose high places and altars Hezekiah has taken away, saying to Judah and Jerusalem, ‘You will bow down to this altar in Jerusalem?’

23 Now therefore give hostages to my lord the king of Assyria, and I will give you two thousand horses, if you are able to give them riders.

24 How then can you turn away the face of one of the least of my lord’s servants? Yet you trust in Egypt because of the chariots and horsemen.

25 Now therefore have I come up against this place without the Lord to destroy it? The Lord said to me, ‘Go up against this land and destroy it.’

26 Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, Shebna, and Joah said to Rabshakeh, "Please speak to your servants in Syriac, for we understand it, and do not speak to us in Judah in the ears of the people who are on the wall."

27 But Rabshakeh said to them, "Did my lord send me to speak these words only to your lord and to you, and not to the men who sit on the wall, so that they may eat their dung and drink their urine with you?"

28 So Rabshakeh stood up and cried out with a loud voice in Judah, and spoke, and said, "Hear the word of the great king, the king of Assyria.

29 Thus says the king: Let not Hezekiah deceive you, for he will not be able to deliver you out of his hand.

30 Neither let Hezekiah make you trust in the Lord, saying, ‘The Lord will surely deliver us, and this city will not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.’

31 Do not listen to Hezekiah, for thus says the king of Assyria: ‘Make a bargain with me for a present, and come out to me, and let each of you eat his vine and his fig tree, and drink water from his own cistern,

32 Until I come and take you away to a land like your own, a land of grain and wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of olive trees, oil and honey; then you will live and not die. Do not listen to Hezekiah, for he is urging you, saying, ‘The Lord will deliver us.’

33 Have the gods of the nations been able to deliver each of their lands out of the hand of the king of Assyria?

34 What about the gods of Hamath and Arpad? What has become of the gods of Sepharvaim, Hena and Ivah? Have they delivered Samaria out of my hand?

35 Who are they among all the gods of the lands who have delivered their land out of my hand, so that the Lord should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?

36 But the people kept silent and did not answer him a word, for the king had commanded, “You shall not answer him.”

37 Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph, the recorder, came to Hezekiah with their clothes torn, and told him the words of Rabshakeh.

II Reis 18 Senaqueribe invade Judá

II Reis 18

29 Assim diz o rei: Não vos engane Ezequias; porque não vos poderá livrar da sua mão;

11 और अश्शूर का राजा इस्राएल को बन्धुआई करके अश्शूर के पास ले गया; और उनको हलाह और हाबोर, और गोजान नदी के तीर पर, और मादियोंके नगरोंमें ले आया;

II Kings 18 Hezekiah Reestablishes the Worship of the Lord

 II Kings 18

Hezekiah Reestablishes the Worship of the Lord

1 Now it came to pass in the third year of Hoshea the son of Elah king of Israel, that Hezekiah the son of Ahaz king of Judah began to reign.

2 He was twenty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Abi the daughter of Zechariah.

3 And he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, according to all that David his father had done.

4 He removed the high places, broke the images, cut down the Asherah poles, and broke in pieces the bronze serpent that Moses had made; for until that day the children of Israel had burned incense to it; and they called it Nehushtan.

5 He trusted in the Lord, the God of Israel, so that after him there was none like him among all the kings of Judah, nor among those who were before him.

6 For he cleaved to the Lord, and did not turn aside from following Him, and kept the commandments which the Lord had given to Moses.

7 So the Lord was with him; wherever he went out he behaved himself wisely; and he rebelled against the king of Assyria, and did not serve him.

8 He defeated the Philistines as far as Gaza, and its borders, from the watchtower to the fortified city.

9 And it came to pass in the fourth year of King Hezekiah (9 which was the seventh year of Hoshea the son of Elah, king of Israel), that Shalmaneser king of Assyria went up against Samaria, and besieged it.

10 And they took it at the end of three years, in the sixth year of Hezekiah, which was the ninth year of Hoshea king of Israel, when they took Samaria.

11 And the king of Assyria carried Israel away into Assyria, and brought them to Halah, and to Habor, by the river of Gozan, and to the cities of the Medes:

12 Because they obeyed not the voice of the LORD their God, but transgressed his covenant: and all that Moses the servant of the LORD commanded they neither hearkened unto, nor did.

II Reis 18 Ezequias restabelece o culto ao Senhor

II Reis 18

11 E o rei da Assíria transportou a Israel para a Assíria: e os fez levar para Hala e para Habor, junto ao rio de Gozã, e às cidades dos medos;
