1 Kings 20 Ahab defeats the Syrians and makes a covenant with their king

 1 Kings 20

Ahab defeats the Syrians and makes a covenant with their king

31- Then his servants said to him, "Behold, we have heard that the kings of the house of Israel are merciful kings. Let us put sackcloth on our loins and ropes on our heads and go out to the king of Israel; perhaps he will save your life."

32- So they put sackcloth on their loins and ropes on their heads, and came to the king of Israel and said, "Your servant Ben-hadad says, 'Let me live.'" And he said, "Is he still alive? He is my brother."

33- And the men took it as a good omen, and they hurried to catch the word, and said, "Your brother Ben-hadad is alive." And he said, "Come, bring him to me." Then Ben-hadad went out to them, and he carried him up into the chariot.

34 And he said, The cities which my father took from your father I will restore to you, and you shall make streets for yourself in Damascus, as my father made in Samaria. And I will let you go, according to this covenant, Ahab said. And he made a covenant with him and let him go.

35 Then one of the sons of the prophets said to his companion by the word of the Lord, Smite me. And the man refused to smite him.

36 And he said to him, Because you have not obeyed the voice of the Lord, behold, while you are gone from me a lion shall smite you. And when he was gone from him, a lion found him and slew him.

37 And he found another man, and said to him, Smite me, I pray thee. And the man slew him, and wounded him.

38 Then the prophet went and stood before the king in the way, and put ashes on his eyes.

39 As the king passed by, he cried out to the king and said, “Your servant went out into the midst of the battle, and behold, a man turned aside and brought another man to me. He said, ‘Keep this man safe for me. If he is missing, you shall pay him a talent of silver.’

40 And it came to pass, while your servant was busy here and there, that he disappeared. Then the king of Israel said to him, “This is your sentence; you have pronounced it.”

41 So he hurried and wiped off the copper ashes from his eyes. And the king of Israel knew him to be one of the prophets. 42- And he said to him, Thus says the Lord: Because you have let go of the man whom I had destined for destruction, therefore your life shall be for his life, and your people for his people.

43- And the king of Israel went home grieved and angry, and came to Samaria.

 I Reis 20

37-  Depois encontrou outro homem, e disse-lhe: Ora fere-me. E feriu-o aquele homem, ferindo-o e vunerando-o.

5 और दूतोंने फिर आकर कहा, बेनदाद योंकहता है, कि यद्यपि मैं ने तुझ से कहा या, कि तू अपक्की चान्दी, सोना, स्त्रियां, और लड़केबालोंको मुझे दे देगा;

18 और उस ने कहा, यदि वे मेल करने को जाएं, तो भी उन्हें जीवित पकड़ लेना; और यदि वे युद्ध करने को जाएं, तो भी उन्हें जीवित पकड़ लेना;

1 Kings 20 War Between Ahab and the King of Syria

 1 Kings 20

War Between Ahab and the King of Syria

1- Then Ben-hadad king of Syria gathered all his forces together, and thirty-two kings, and horses and chariots were with him; and he went up and besieged Samaria, and fought against it.

2- And he sent messengers to the city to Ahab king of Israel,

3- And he said to him, Thus says Ben-hadad: Your silver and your gold are mine, and your wives and the best of your children are mine.

4- And the king of Israel answered and said, As you have said, my lord, O king, I am yours, and all that I have.

5- And the messengers came again and said, Thus says Ben-hadad, saying, Although I sent to you, saying, You shall give me your silver, and your gold, and your wives, and your children;

6- But tomorrow about this time I will send my servants to you, and they will search your house and the houses of your servants; and it will be that everything that is pleasing to you will be put into their hands and taken away.

7- Then the king of Israel called for all the elders of the land and said, "Now consider and see how this man seeks evil; for he sent to me for my wives and children and for my silver and gold, and I did not refuse him."

8- And all the elders and all the people said to him, "Do not listen to him or resist him."

9- So he said to the messengers of Ben-hadad, "Tell my lord the king, 'All that you first sent to ask of your servant I will do; but this I cannot do.' So the messengers went and returned to him with this answer.

10- And Ben-hadad sent to him, and said, So may the gods do to me, and more also: for the dust of Samaria shall not suffice to fill the hands of all the people that follow me.

11- But the king of Israel answered and said, Tell him, Let not one who girds himself boast as one who ungirds himself.

12- And it came to pass, when he heard this word, that he and the kings were drinking in the tents, that he said to his servants, Set yourselves in array against the city.

13- And, behold, a prophet came to Ahab king of Israel, and said to him, Thus saith the LORD, Have you seen all this great multitude? behold, I will deliver it into thine hand this day, that thou mayest know that I am the LORD.

14- And Ahab said, By whom? And he said, Thus saith the LORD, By the young men of the princes of the provinces. And he said, Who shall begin the battle? And he said, Thou.

15 Then he numbered the young men of the princes of the provinces, and there were two hundred and thirty-two; and after them he numbered all the people, all the children of Israel, seven thousand.

16 And they went out at noon: and Ben-hadad was drinking and getting drunk in the tents, he and the kings, the thirty-two kings, who helped him.

17 And the young men of the princes of the provinces went out first: and Ben-hadad sent some, and they told him, saying, Men have come out of Samaria.

18 And he said, Even if they come out in peace, take them alive; and if they come out to battle, take them alive.

19 So the young men of the princes of the provinces went out of the city, and the army that followed them.

20- And they slew every man his own man; and the Syrians fled, and Israel pursued them: but Ben-hadad king of Syria escaped on horseback, and some horsemen.

21- And the king of Israel went out, and slew the horses and chariots, and slew the Syrians with a great slaughter.

22- Then the prophet came near to the king of Israel, and said unto him, Go, be strong, and observe, and see what thou dost; for within the space of the year the king of Syria will come up against thee.

23- For the servants of the king of Syria said unto him, Their gods are gods of the hills; therefore they were too strong for us: but let us fight with them in the open field, and we shall see whether we are not too strong for them.

24- So do this: remove every man the king out of his place, and appoint captains in their stead.

25- Now number another army that has fallen against you, with horses like those horses and chariots like those chariots, and let us fight with them in the open field, and see if we are not stronger than they.” And he listened to their voice and did so.

26- And it came to pass after a year that Ben-hadad mustered the Syrians, and went up to Aphek to fight against Israel.

27- And the children of Israel mustered them, and went up against them with provisions; and the children of Israel encamped opposite them, like two small flocks of goats; but the Syrians filled the land.

28- And the man of God came and spoke to the king of Israel, and said, Thus says the Lord: Because the Syrians said, The Lord is a God of the mountains, and not a God of the valleys, therefore I will deliver all this great army into your hand, that you may know that I am the Lord.

29- And they camped seven days opposite each other. And it came to pass on the seventh day, that the battle began, and the children of Israel smote the Syrians an hundred thousand footmen in one day.

30- And the rest fled to the city of Aphek; and the wall fell upon the twenty-seven thousand men that were left. But Ben-hadad fled, and came into the city, going from chamber to chamber.

 I Reis 20

4- E respondeu o rei de Israel, e disse: Conforme a tua palavra, ó rei meu senhor, teu sou eu, e tudo quanto tenho.

5- E tornaram a vir os mensageiros, e disseram: Assim fala Benadade, dizendo: Ainda que eu te mandei dizer: Tu me hás de dar a tua prata, e o teu ouro, e as tuas mulheres e os teus filhos;

11 और उस ने उस से कहा, निकलकर इस पहाड़ पर यहोवा के साम्हने खड़ा हो। और देखो, यहोवा पास से गुजर रहा था, और एक प्रचण्ड और प्रचण्ड आँधी ने पहाड़ों को चीर डाला, और यहोवा के साम्हने के साम्हने चट्टानोंको तोड़ डाला; परन्तु यहोवा आँधी में न था; और आँधी के बाद भूकम्प हुआ; और उस भूकम्प में यहोवा न था;

1 Kings 19 Elijah on Mount Horeb

 1 Kings 19

Elijah on Mount Horeb

8- So he arose, and ate and drank, and in the strength of that food he went forty days and forty nights to Horeb, the mountain of God.

9- And there he entered a cave and lodged there: and, behold, the word of the LORD came to him, and he said unto him, What doest thou here, Elijah?

10- And he said, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword, and I am left alone; and they seek my life, to take me away.

11- And he said unto him, Go forth, and stand upon the mountain before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD: but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake; and the Lord was not in the earthquake;

12- And after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice.

13- And it came to pass, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave: and, lo, a voice came unto him, saying, What doest thou here, Elijah?

14- And he said, I have been exceedingly zealous for the Lord God of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword, and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.

15- And the Lord said unto him, Go, return on thy way to the wilderness of Damascus, and come, anoint Hazael king over Syria.

16- And you shall anoint Jehu the son of Nimshi king over Israel, and you shall anoint Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abel-meholah as prophet in your place.

17- And it shall come to pass, that him that escapes the sword of Hazel shall Jehu kill; and him that escapes the sword of Jehu shall Elisha kill.

18- And I have left seven thousand in Israel, all the knees that have not bowed to Baal, and every mouth that has not kissed him.

19- And Elijah departed from there, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen before him, and he was with the twelfth. And Elijah passed by him, and cast his mantle upon him.

20- And he left the oxen, and ran after Elijah, and said, Let me kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow thee. And he said to him, “Go and come back; for what have I done to you?”

21 So he turned back from following him, and took a yoke of oxen, and killed them, and boiled their flesh with the yoke of the oxen, and gave it to the people, and they ate. Then he arose and followed Elijah, and ministered to him.

I Reis 19 Elias no monte de Horebe

 I Reis 19

 1 Kings 19

Jezebel Threatens Elijah

1- And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and how he had utterly slain all the prophets with the sword.

2- Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, So may the gods do to me, and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by tomorrow about this time.

3- And when he saw it, he arose, and went for his life, and came to Beersheba, which belongeth to Judah, and left his servant there.

4- And he went a day's journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a broom tree: and he desired in his heart that he might die, and said, It is enough, O LORD: now take away my life; for I am no better than my fathers.

5- And he lay down and slept under a broom tree: and, lo, an angel touched him, and said unto him, Arise, and eat.

6- And he looked, and, lo, at his head was a cake baked on the coals, and a cruse of water: and he ate, and drank, and lay down again.

7- And the angel of the Lord came again the second time, and touched him, and said unto him, Arise, and eat: because the journey is too great for thee.

7- E o anjo do Senhor tornou segunda vez e o tocou, e disse: Levanta-te e come, porque mui comprido te será o caminho.

33 तब उस ने लकड़ी इकट्ठी की, और बछड़े को टुकड़े टुकड़े करके लकड़ी पर रख दिया;

1 Kings 18 Elijah and the Prophets of Baal

 1 Kings 18

Elijah and the Prophets of Baal

22- Then Elijah said to the people, "I alone am left a prophet of the Lord, and the prophets of Baal are four hundred and fifty men.

23- Now let two bulls be given to us, and let them choose one bull for themselves, cut it in pieces, and lay it on the wood, but put no fire under it. And I will prepare the other bull, and lay it on the wood, and put no fire under it.

24- Then you shall call on the name of your god, and I will call on the name of the Lord; and it shall be that the god who answers by fire, that is God." And all the people answered and said, "The saying is good."

25- And Elijah said to the prophets of Baal, "Choose one bull for yourselves and prepare it first, for there are many of you; and call on the name of your god, and put no fire under it.

26 And they took the calf which he had given them, and prepared it; and they called on the name of Baal from morning until noon, saying, O Baal, answer us! But there was no voice, and none to answer: and they leaped upon the altar that was made.

27 And it came to pass at noon, that Elijah mocked them, and said, Cry aloud: for he is a god: perhaps he speaketh, or hath some thing to do, or is intending some journey; perhaps he sleepeth, and awaketh.

28 And they cried out with a loud voice, and cut themselves with knives and lancets, as was their custom, until the blood gushed out upon them.

29 And it came to pass, when noon was past, that they prophesied until the time of the offering of the meat offering: but there was no voice, nor answer, nor any respect.

30 And Elijah said unto all the people, Come near unto me. And all the people came near to him, and he repaired the altar of the Lord, which was broken down.

31 And Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, to whom the word of the Lord came, saying, Israel shall be thy name.

32 And with the stones he built an altar in the name of the Lord: and he made a trench round about the altar, as wide as two measures of seed.

33 And he put the wood in order, and cut the bullock in pieces, and laid it on the wood.

34 And he said, Fill four jars with water, and pour it on the burnt offering, and on the wood. And he said, Do it a second time: and they did it a second time. And he said, Do it a third time: and they did it a third time:

35 So the water ran round about the altar: and he filled the trench also with water.

36- Now it came to pass, when the grain offering was being offered, that Elijah the prophet came near and said, “O Lord, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, let it be known today that you are God in Israel, and that I am your servant, and that I have done all these things at your word.

37- Answer me, Lord, answer me, that these people may know that you, Lord, are God, and that you have turned their hearts back.”

38- Then the fire of the Lord fell and consumed the burnt offering, the wood, the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.

39- And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces and said, “The Lord, he is God! The Lord, he is God!”

40- And Elijah said to them, “Seize the prophets of Baal, and let not one of them escape.” And they seized them: and Elijah brought them down to the brook Kishon, and slew them there.

41 Then Elijah said to Ahab, Go up, eat and drink; for there is the sound of a great rain.

42 And Ahab went up to eat and drink: but Elijah went up to the top of Carmel, and bowed himself to the ground, and put his face between his knees.

43 And he said to his servant, Go up now, and look toward the sea. And he went up and looked, and said, There is nothing. And he said, Go back seven times.

44 And it came to pass at the seventh time, that he said, Behold, a little cloud, like a man's hand, rising out of the sea. And he said, Go up, and say to Ahab, Prepare thy chariot, and go down, lest the rain come upon thee.

45- And it came to pass in the meantime, that the heavens were black with clouds and wind, and there was a great rain: and Ahab rode up in his chariot, and went to Jezreel.

46- And the hand of the LORD was upon Elijah; and he girded up his loins, and ran before Ahab unto the entrance of Jezreel.

 I Reis 18

38- Então caiu fogo do Senhor, e consumiu o holocausto, e a lenha, e as pedras, e o pó, e ainda lambeu a água que estava no rego.

So o Senhor é Deus!

1 Kings 18 Elijah Presents Himself to Ahab

 1 Kings 18

Elijah Presents Himself to Ahab

1- And it came to pass after many days, that the word of the Lord came to Elijah in the third year, saying, Go, show yourself to Ahab; for I will send rain upon the land.

2- And Elijah went to show himself to Ahab: and the famine was sore in Samaria.

3- And Ahab called Obadiah which was over the household: and Obadiah greatly feared the Lord.

4- For it came to pass, when Jezebel destroyed the prophets of the Lord, that Obadiah took an hundred prophets, and fifty by fifty, and hid them in a cave, and fed them with bread and water.

5- And Ahab said to Obadiah, Go through the land to all the springs of water, and to all the rivers: perhaps we may find grass, that we may keep the horses and mules alive, and not be deprived of the cattle.

6- And they divided the land between them to pass through it: Ahab went one way by himself, and Obadiah went another way by himself.

7- And as Obadiah was on the way, behold, Elijah met him; and he recognized him, and fell on his face, and said, Art thou my lord Elijah?

8- And he said unto him, I am: go, tell thy lord, Behold, Elijah is here.

9- And he said, What have I sinned, that thou shouldest deliver thy servant into the hand of Ahab, that he might kill me?

10- As the LORD thy God liveth, there was no nation or kingdom, where my lord did not send to seek thee: and when they said, He is not here, he would swear to the kingdoms and nations, if they had not found thee.

11 And now thou sayest, Go, tell thy lord, Behold, Elijah is here.

12- And it may be, when I am gone from you, that the Spirit of the Lord will carry you whither I know not; and when I come to tell Ahab, and he cannot find you, he will kill me: but I, your servant, have feared the Lord from my youth.

13- Was it not told my lord what I did when Jezebel killed the prophets of the Lord, how I hid a hundred of the Lord's prophets, by fifty each, in caves, and fed them with bread and water?

14- And now you say, Go, tell your lord, Behold, Elijah is here; and he will kill me.

15- And Elijah said, As the Lord of hosts lives, before whom I stand, I will surely show myself to him today.

16- Then Obadiah went to meet Ahab, and told him: and Ahab went to meet Elijah.

17- And it came to pass, when Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab said unto him, Art thou he that troubleth Israel?

18- And he said, I have not troubled Israel, but thou, and thy father's house, in that ye have forsaken the commandments of the LORD, and have followed Baalim.

19- And now send, and gather all Israel to me at mount Carmel, and the prophets of Baal four hundred and fifty, and the prophets of Asherah four hundred, which eat at Jezebel's table.

20- And Ahab sent unto all the children of Israel, and gathered the prophets together at mount Carmel.

21- Then Elijah came near unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? If the LORD be God, follow him; and if Baal, then follow him. But the people answered him not a word.

I Reis 18 Elias apresenta-se diante de Acabe

 I Reis 18

9 और उठकर सारपत को जो सीदोन में है, जाकर वहीं रहना, मैं ने वहां एक विधवा स्त्री को तेरे पालन पोषण के लिथे आज्ञा दी है;

1 Kings 17 The Widow of Zarephath

 1 Kings 17

The Widow of Zarephath

8- Then the word of the Lord came to him, saying,

9- Arise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and dwell there; behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to provide for you.

10- So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, a widow woman was there gathering sticks. And he called to her, and said to her, Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.

11- And when she went to fetch it, he called to her, and said to her, Bring me now also a morsel of bread in thy hand.

12- But she said, As the Lord thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but only a handful of meal in a jar, and a little oil in a cruse: and see, I have gathered two sticks, and I will prepare some for myself and my son, that we may eat it, and die.

13- Elijah said to her, "Do not be afraid; go, do as you have said; but first make me a little cake of it and bring it out to me; and then you shall make some for yourself and your son.

14- For thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: The barrel of meal shall not be used up, nor shall the cruse of oil run dry, until the day that the Lord sends rain upon the earth."

15- So she went and did according to the word of Elijah; and she and he and his household ate for many days.

16- The barrel of meal did not run out, nor did the cruse of oil run dry, in accordance with the word of the Lord which he spoke through Elijah.

17- And it came to pass after these things, that the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, fell sick, and his sickness became so sore, that he could not breathe.

18- And she said to Elijah, What have I to do with thee, O man of God? hast thou come unto me to call my iniquity to remembrance, and to kill my son?

19- And he said unto her, Give me thy son. And he took him out of her bosom, and carried him upstairs into his own chamber, and laid him upon his bed.

20- And he cried unto the LORD, and said, O LORD my God, have thou also brought evil upon the widow with whom I dwell, by killing her son?

21- And she stretched herself upon the child three times, and cried unto the LORD, and said, O LORD my God, I pray thee, let this child's life come into him again.

22- And the Lord heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he lived.

23- And Elijah took the child, and brought him down from the chamber into the house, and gave him to his mother. And Elijah said, See, your son lives.

24- And the woman said to Elijah, By this I know that you are a man of God, and that the word of the Lord in your mouth is truth.

I Reis 17 A viúva de Sarepta

 I Reis 17

A viúva de Sarepta

8- Então veio a ele a palavra do Senhor , dizendo:

23- E Elias tomou o menino, e o trouxe do quarto à casa, e o deu a sua mãe; e disse Elias: Vês aí, teu filho vive.
