II Samuel 20 Seba's Sedition and Death

 II Samuel 20

  Seba's Sedition and Death

1 Then there was found by chance a man of Belial, whose name was Sheba, the son of Bichri, a man of Benjamin, who blew the horn, and said, We have no part in David, nor inheritance in the son of Jesse; every one to tents, O Israel.

2 Then all the men of Israel turned from following David, and followed Sheba the son of Bichri; but the men of Judah were united to their king from the Jordan to Jerusalem

3 When David came to his house in Jerusalem, the king took the ten women his concubines, whom he had left to guard the house, and put them in a guarded house, and maintained them; but he did not enter them: and they were shut up to the day of their death, living as widows.

4 And the king said to Amasa, Summon to me the men of Judah for the third day: and thou then present thyself hither.

5 And Amasa went to summon Judah: but he tarried beyond the time that he had appointed him.

6 Then David said to Abishai, Sheba the son of Bicri will do us more harm now than Absalom: therefore take thou the servants of thy lord, and pursue him, lest he find himself strong cities, and escape. from our eyes.

7 Then went out after him the men of Joab, and the Cherethites, and all the mighty men: these went out from Jerusalem to go after Sheba the son of Bichri.

8 So when they came to the great stone that is by Gibeon, Amasa came before them: and Joab was girding himself with his garment which he had put on, and over it a girdle with a sword, on his loins, on its scabbard: and going forward he fell.

9 And Joab said to Amasa, Is it well with you, my brother? And Joab took Amasa's beard with his right hand to kiss him.

10 And Amasa did not spare himself from the sword that was in Joab's hand, so that he smote him with it in the fifth rib, and poured out his bowels to the ground; and he smote him not the second time, and he died: Then Joab and Abishai his brother went after Sheba the son of Bichri.

11 But one of Joab's young men stood by him, and said, Whoever pleases Joab, and whoever is for David, let him follow Joab.

12 And Amasa was wrapped in his blood in the middle of the way: and when that man saw that all the people stood still, he turned Amasa out of the way into the field, and cast a cloak over him; because he saw that everyone who came to him stopped.

13 And as he was out of the way, all the men followed Joab to pursue Sheba the son of Bichri.

14 And Abel passed through all the tribes of Israel, even to Beth-maacah and to all the Berites: and they were all assembled, and also followed them.

15 And they came, and besieged him in Abel of Beth-maacah, and set up a dam against the city, as soon as it was in front of the rampart: and all the people that were with Joab beat the wall, to break it down.

16 Then a wise woman called out from within the city, Hear, hear, I beseech you, say to Joab, Come here, that I may speak with you.

17 he came to her, and said to the woman, Are you Joab? And he said, I am. And she said to him, Hear the words of your handmaid. And he said, I hear.

18 Then she spake, saying, Formerly it was said, saying, Surely they asked counsel of Abel; and so they did.

19 I am one of the peaceable, and of the daughters of Israel: and thou seekest to slay a city which is the mother of Israel: why then wilt thou devour the heritage of the LORD?

20 Then answered Joab, and said, Far, far be it from me that I should do this, that I should devour or destroy!

21 This is not so: but one man from Mount Ephraim, whose name is Sheba, the son of Bichri, raised his hand against the king, against David; give me only this one, and I will leave the city. Then said the woman to Joab, Behold, his head shall be thrust upon the wall.

22 And the woman, in her wisdom, went in to all the people, and they cut off the head of Sheba the son of Bichri, and cast it to Joab. Joab returned to Jerusalem to the king.

23 And Joab was over all the host of Israel; and Benaiah, son of Jehoiada, over the Cherethites and over the Pelethites;

24 And Adoram over the tributes; and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was the chancellor,

25 And Seva the scribe; and Zadok and Abiathar the priests;

26 And also Ira the Jairite was David's chief officer.

9 E disse Joabe a Amasa: Vai contigo bem, meu irmão?

23 E Joabe estava sobre todo o exército de Israel; e Benaia, filho de Joiada, sobre os quereteus e sobre os peleteus;

25 E Seva o escrivão; e Zadoque e Abiatar os sacerdotes;

26 E também Ira, o jairita, era o oficial-mor de Davi.

II Samuel 19 Barzillai meets David

 II Samuel 19

Barzillai meets David

31 Also Barzillai the Gileadite went down from Rogelim, and crossed over Jordan with the king, to accompany him to the other side of Jordan.

32 And Barzillai was very old, eighty years old; and he had supported the king, when he had his dwelling in Mahanaim, because he was a very great man,

33 And the king said to Barzillai, Pass thou with me, and I will sustain thee with me in Jerusalem.

34 But Barzillai said to the king, How many days of the years of my life will I go up with the king to Jerusalem?

35 From the age of eighty years am I this day; could I discern between good and bad? Could your servant taste like food and drink? Could I hear the voice of male and female singers anymore? And why shall thy servant yet be a burden to my lord the king?

36 Your servant will go over Jordan a little farther with the king. And why will the king reward me with such a reward?

37 Let your servant return, and he may die in my city at the burial place of my father and my mother. let my lord the king go, and do to him what is good in your eyes.

38 Then the king said, Chimham shall pass over with me, and I will do to him as seems good in your eyes, and whatever you ask of me I will do for you.

39 When all the people had crossed Jordan, and the king had crossed over, the king kissed Barzillai and blessed him, and he returned to his place.

40 And from there the king passed over to Gilgal, and Chimam passed over with him: and all the people of Judah led the king, and half of Israel also.

41 And, behold, all the men of Israel came to the king, and said unto the king, Why did our brethren the men of Judah rob thee, and bring the king to his house over Jordan, and all the men of David with them? ?

42 Then all the men of Judah answered the men of Israel, Because the king is our kinsman; and why are you angry about it? Did we eat at the king's expense, or did he present us with a gift?

43 And the men of Israel answered the men of Judah, and said, Ten parts we have in the king, and even in David we have more than you; why, then, did you make light of us, that our word should not be the first, to bring back our king? But the word of the men of Judah was stronger than the word of the men of Israel.

II Samuel 19 Barzilai encontra-se com Davi

II Samuel 19

Mephibosheth meets David

24 Also Mephibosheth, Saul's son, went down to meet the king, and he had not washed his feet, nor shaved, nor washed his clothes from the day the king went out until the day he returned. in peace.

25 And it came to pass, when he came to Jerusalem to meet the king, that the king said unto him, Why did you not go with me, Mephibosheth?

26 And he said, O my lord the king, my servant deceived me; for thy servant said, I will saddle a donkey, and I will ride upon it, and I will go with the king; for your servant is lame.

27 Furthermore, falsely accused your servant before my lord the king; but my lord the king is like an angel of God; therefore do what seems good in your eyes.

28 For all my father's house were but men worthy of death before my lord the king, and yet thou hast set thy servant among them that eat at thy table: and what more right have I to cry unto the king?

29 And the king said unto him, Why dost thou speak any more of thy business? I already said: You and Ziba divide the lands.

30 And Mephibosheth said unto the king, Let him also take all: for my lord the king is come to his house in peace.

II Samuel 19 David returns to Jerusalem

 II Samuel 19

David returns to Jerusalem

11 Then king David sent to Zadok and Abiathar, priests, saying, Speak to the elders of Judah, saying, Why should you be the last to bring the king back to his house? (For the words of all Israel reached the king, even to his house.).

12 Ye are my brethren, ye are my bones and my flesh: why then should ye be the last to bring back the king?

13 And to Amasa ye shall say, Art thou not my bone and my flesh? So may God do to me, and more, if you are not captain of the camp before me forever instead of Joab.

14 So he moved the heart of all the men of Judah like one man: and they sent to the king, saying, Return thou, and all thy servants.

15 Then the king returned, and came to Jordan; and Judah came from Gilgal to meet the king on the other side of Jordan.

16 And Shimei the son of Gera, the son of Jemini, who was from Bahurim, hurried down and went down with the men of Judah to meet King David.

17 And with him a thousand men of Benjamin, and Ziba the servant of the house of Saul, and his fifteen sons, and his twenty servants with him; and they promptly crossed over Jordan before the king.

18 And when the boat passed by to bring the king's house across and to do what seemed good in his eyes, then Shimei the son of Gera prostrated himself before the king as he crossed the Jordan.

19 And the king said, Let not my lord charge me with my guilt, and remember not what thy servant did so wickedly, in the day that my lord the king went out of Jerusalem; don't keep the king that in your heart.

20 For thy servant indeed confesses that I have sinned: yet, behold, I am the first of all the house of Joseph to go down to meet my lord the king.

21 Then Abishai the son of Zeruiah answered and said, Shall not Shimei die for this, having cursed the Lord's anointed?

22 But David said, What have I to do with you, sons of Zeruiah, that you are adversaries against me today? Would anyone die today in Israel? Why do I not know that today I have been made king over Israel?

23 And the king said to Shimei, Thou shalt not die. And the king swore to him.

II Samuel 19 Davi volta para Jerusalém

II Samuel 19

23 E disse o rei a Simei: Não morrerás. E o rei lho jurou.

5 तब योआब राजभवन में जाकर कहने लगा, तू ने आज के दिन अपके सब कर्मचारियोंका मुंह काला किया है, जिन्होंने आज के दिन तेरा, और तेरे बेटे-बेटियोंका, और तेरी स्त्रियोंका प्राण बचाया है। तुम्हारी रखेलियों का जीवन;

II Samuel 19

 II Samuel 19

1 And they said unto Joab, Behold, the king goeth weeping, and mourneth for Absalom.

2 Then the victory turned that very day into grief for all the people: for that very day the people had heard it said, The king is grieved because of his son.

3 And that same day the people crept into the city, as people flee from the battle in shame.

4 So the king had his face covered; and the king cried with a loud voice, Absalom my son, Absalom my son, my son!

5 Then Joab went in to the king's house, and said, "Today you have shamed the faces of all your servants, who have saved your life this day, and the lives of your sons and daughters, and the lives of your wives, and the life of your concubines;

6 Loving you that hate you, and hating those that love you: because you make it known today that captains and servants are worthless to you: because I understand today that if Absalom lived, and we all died today, then it would seem good in your eyes.

7 Now therefore, arise, go out, and speak according to the heart of your servants: for I swear to you by the Lord, if you do not go out, not one man will remain with you tonight; and this will be greater evil to you than all the evil that has befallen you from your youth until now.

8 Then the king arose, and sat in the gate; and they told all the people, saying, Behold, the king sitteth in the gate. Then all the people came to present themselves before the king; but Israel fled every man to his tents.

9 And all the people, in all the tribes of Israel, were quarreling among themselves, saying, The king delivered us out of the hand of our enemies, and he delivered us out of the hand of the Philistines; and now he fled from the land because of Absalom.

10 And Absalom, whom we anointed over us, is dead in the battle: now therefore why are you silent, and do not bring back the king?

II Samuel 19

II Samuel 19

4 Estava pois o rei com o rosto coberto; e o rei gritava à alta voz: Meu filho Absalão, Absalão meu filho, meu filho!

5 Então entrou Joabe ao rei em casa, e disse: Hoje envergonhaste as caras de todos os teus servos, que livraram hoje a tua vida, e a vida de teus filhos, e de tuas filhas, e a vida de tuas mulheres, e a vida de tuas concubinas;

II Samuel 18 David, hearing of Absalom's death, weeps bitterly

 II Samuel 18

David, hearing of Absalom's death, weeps bitterly

19 Then said Ahimaaz, son of Zadok, Let me run, and I will tell the king that the Lord has avenged him of the hand of his enemies.

20 But Joab said unto him, Thou shalt not be a bearer of good news today, but another day thou shalt bring it; but today thou shalt not break the news, because the king's son is dead.

21 And Joab said to Cushi, Go thou, and tell the king what thou hast seen. And Cushi bowed down to Joab, and ran.

22 And Ahimaaz the son of Zadok went on and said to Joab, Whatever it may be, let me also run after Cushi. And Joab said, Why would you run now, my son, since you have no suitable message?

23 Whatever it is, Ahimaaz said, I will run. And Joab said to him, Run. And Ahimaaz ran by the way of the plain, and passed to Cushi.

24 And David was sitting between the two gates; and the watchman went up to the terrace of the gate by the wall: and he lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, a man was running alone.

25 The watchman therefore cried out, and said to the king, If he come alone, there is news in his mouth. And he was walking and coming.

26 Then the watchman saw another man running, and the watchman called to the gatekeeper, and said, Behold, another man is running alone. Then the king said, This man also brings news.

27 Said more the watchman: I see the running of the first, which seems to be the running of Ahimaaz, son of Zadok. Then the king said, This is a good man, and you will come with good news.

28 Then Ahimaaz cried, and said to the king, Peace. And he bowed down to the king with his face to the ground, and said, Blessed be the Lord, who has delivered up the men who raised their hand against my lord the king.

29 Then said the king, Is it well with the young man, with Absalom? And Ahimaaz said, I saw a great uproar, when Joab sent the king's servant, and me your servant; but I don't know what it was.

30 And the king said, Turn, and stand here. And he turned around, and stopped.

31 And, behold, Cushi came: and Cushi said, My lord the king shall be told that the LORD hath avenged thee this day of the hand of all them that rose up against thee.

32 Then said the king to Cushi, Is it well with the young man, with Absalom? And Cushi said, May the enemies of my lord the king be like that young man, and all who rose up against thee for harm.

33 Then the king was troubled, and he went up to the room that was above the door, and wept; and walking, he said thus: My son Absalom, my son, my son, Absalom! I wish I had died for you, Absalom, my son, my son!

23 Seja o que for, disse Aimaás, correrei.

II Samuel 18 Absalom is suspended from a tree and Joab kills him

 II Samuel 18

Absalom is suspended from a tree and Joab kills him

9 And Absalom met with the servants of David; and Absalom was riding on a mule; and; As the mule entered under the thick branches of a great oak, his head caught on the oak, and it hung between heaven and earth: and the mule, who was under him, passed on.

10 When a man saw, he told Joab, and said, Behold, I saw Absalom hanging from an oak.

11 Then Joab said to the man who had told him, "Since you saw him, why didn't you smite him right there on the ground?" And I would have to give you ten pieces of silver and a belt.

12 But the man said to Joab, Even if I could weigh a thousand pieces of silver in my hand, I would not stretch out my hand against the king's son, for we have heard that the king commanded you, and Abishai, and Ittai, saying, Take heed, every one of you, from touching the young man, Absalom.

13 Even if I spoke a lie at the risk of my life, I would not hide anything from the king; and you yourself would oppose.

14 Then said Joab, I will not tarry thus with thee here. And he took three darts, and pierced Absalom's heart with them, while he was yet alive in the midst of the oak.

15 And ten young men, bearing Joab's weapons, surrounded him. And they smote Absalom and slew him.

16 Then Joab blew the horn, and the people returned from pursuing Israel, for Joab held back the people.

17 And they took Absalom, and cast him into the forest, into a great pit, and heaved a very great heap of stones upon him: and all Israel fled, every man to his tent.

18 Now Absalom, when he was yet alive, had taken and set up for himself a pillar, which is in the king's dale, for he said, I have no son to keep my name in remembrance. And he called that column by its own name; therefore it is called the Pillar of Absalom to this day.

14 Então disse Joabe: Não me demorarei assim contigo aqui.

E feriram a Absalão e o mataram.
