Deuteronomy 17
The Election and Duties of a King
14 When you go into the land, which the Lord your God gives you, and possess it, and dwell in it, and say, I will set a king over me, as all the people around me have:
15 Thou shalt surely set him as king over thee, which shall choose the LORD thy God: from among thy brethren shalt thou set king over thee: thou shalt not put a strange man upon thee, except thy brethren.
16 But he shall not multiply horses for himself, nor bring the people back into Egypt to multiply horses: for the LORD has said unto you, Ye shall not return again by this way.
17 And he shall not multiply women to himself, that his heart may not turn aside: neither shall silver nor gold multiply much for himself.
18 And it shall come to pass, that when he shall sit upon the throne of his kingdom, then he shall write unto him a transfer of this law into a book, which is before the Levite priests.
19 And he shall have it with him, and shall read therein all the days of thy life; that he may learn to fear the LORD his God, to keep all the words of this law, and these statutes, to do them;
20 That his heart may not be lifted up upon his brethren, and departeth not from the commandment, either to the right hand or to the left. That he may prolong the days in his kingdom, he and his sons in the midst of Israel.
