Six cities of refuge
9 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
10 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye pass over the Jordan into the land of Canaan,
11 Make cities to be at your hand, cities that serve you as cities of refuge, that a murderer may dwell there, and he may strike some soul by error.
12 And these cities shall be to you as a refuge from the avenger of blood; lest the murderer die, until he stand before the congregation in the judgment.
13 And from the cities that you shall give, there will be six cities of refuge for you.
14 And three of these cities shall ye give unto the Jordan, and three of these cities shall ye give into the land of Canaan: cities of refuge shall be.
15 And these six cities shall be a refuge for the children of Israel, and for the stranger, and for him that dwelleth among them, that there should be a man that smiteth a soul by error.
16 But if he smite him with an instrument of iron, and die, he is a murderer: surely the murderer shall surely die.
17 Or if he smite her with a stone by the hand, that she may die, and she die, he is a murderer: surely the murderer shall die.
18 Or if she smite with a wooden instrument in her hand, that she may die, and she die, she is a murderer: surely the murderer shall surely die.
19 The avenger of blood shall slay the murderer: if he find him, he shall slay him.
20 If he also push her with hatred, or with intent to cast something against her, and die;
21 Or for an enmity to smite with his hand, and to die, surely the bringer shall die; murderer is: The avenger of blood meeting the murderer shall kill him.
22 But if he thrust her suddenly without enmity, or with her cast an unprincipled instrument.
23 Or a stone falling upon it without seeing it, that it may die, and that it die, and that it was not its enemy, nor sought its evil;
24 And the congregation shall judge between the forger and the avenger of blood, according to these laws.
25 And the congregation shall deliver the murderer out of the hand of the avenger of blood, and the congregation shall bring him back to the city of his refuge where he had taken refuge: and there shall tea be made unto the death of the high priest, whom they anointed with the holy oil.
26 But if the murderer somehow depart from the city of his refuge, where he had taken refuge,
27 And the avenger of blood findeth him out of the borders of the city of his refuge, if the avenger of blood kill the slayer, he shall not be guilty of the blood.
28 For he shall remain in the city of his refuge until the death of the high priest: but after the death of the high priest, the murderer shall return to the land of his possession.
29 And these things shall be a statute of right unto all generations unto you in all your dwellings.
30 And whosoever shall smite a man according to the testimony of the witnesses, shall slay the murderer: but a witness shall not testify against any man, that he die,
31 And ye shall take no atonement for the life of the murderer, who is guilty of death: but he shall surely die.
32 And ye shall not make an atonement for him that shall take refuge in the city of his refuge, that he may dwell in the land until the death of the high priest.
33 So you shall not profane the land where you are; for the blood profaneth the earth: and no atonement shall be done for the earth because of the blood that is shed therein, but with the blood of him whom he shed.
34 And ye shall not defile the land which ye shall dwell in, in the midst of which I shall dwell: for I the LORD dwell among the children of Israel.
