1 Fogem os ímpios, sem que ninguém os persiga; mas qualquer justo está confiado como o filho do leão.

2 Por causa da transgressão da terra, muitos são os seus príncipes, mas por virtude de homens prudentes e entendidos, ela continuará.

3 O homem pobre que oprime aos pobres é como chuva impetuosa, que não deixa nenhum trigo.

4 Os que deixam a lei louvam o ímpio; mas os que guardam a lei pelejam contra eles.

5 Os homens maus não entendem o juízo, mas os que buscam ao Senhor entendem tudo.

6 Melhor é o pobre que anda na sua sinceridade do que o de caminhos perversos, ainda que seja rico.

7 O que guarda a lei é filho entendido, mas o companheiro dos comilões envergonha a seu pai.

8 O que aumenta a sua fazenda com usura e onzena, ajunta-a para o que se compadece do pobre.

9 O que desvia os seus ouvidos de ouvir a lei, até a sua oração será abominável.

10 O que faz com que os retos se desviem para um mau caminho, ele mesmo cairá na sua cova: mas os sinceros herdarão o bem.

11 O homem rico é sábio aos seus próprios olhos; mas o pobre que é entendido o examina.

12 Quando os justos triunfam há grande alegria; mas quando os ímpios sobem, homens escondem-se.

13 O que encobre as suas transgressões, nunca prosperará; mas o que as confessa e deixa, alcançará misericórdia.

14 Bem-aventurado o homem que continuamente teme: mas o que endurece o seu coração virá a cair no mal.

15 Como leão bramidor, e urso faminto assim é o ímpio que domina sobre um povo pobre.

16 O príncipe falto de inteligência também multiplica as opressões, mas o que aborrece a avareza prolongará os seus dias.

17 O homem carregado do sangue de qualquer pessoa fugirá até à cova: ninguém o detenha.

18 O que anda sinceramente salvar-se-á, mas o perverso em seus caminhos cairá logo.

19 O que lavrar a sua terra virá a fartar-se de pão, mas o que segue a ociosos se fartará de pobreza.

20 O homem fiel abundará em bênçãos, mas o que se apressa a enriquecer não ficará sem castigo.

21 Ter respeito à aparência de pessoas não é bom, porque até por um bocado de pão o homem prevaricará.

22 Aquele que tem um olho mau corre atrás das riquezas, mas não sabe que há de vir sobre ele a pobreza.

23 O que repreende ao homem achará depois favor do que aquele que lisonjeia com a língua.

24 O que rouba a seu pai, ou a sua mãe, e diz: Não há transgressão, companheiro é do destruidor.

25 O altivo de ânimo levanta contendas, mas o que confia no Senhor engordará.

26 O que confia no seu próprio coração é insensato, mas o que anda sabiamente escapará.

27 O que dá ao pobre não terá necessidade, mas o que esconde os seus olhos terá muitas maldições.

28 Quando os ímpios sobem, os homens se escondem, mas quando eles perecem, os justos se multiplicam.

1 कल के विषय में घमण्ड मत करो, क्योंकि तुम नहीं जानते कि दिन में क्या होगा।

2 परदेशी तुम्हारी प्रशंसा करे, न कि तुम्हारे मुँह से; परदेशी की प्रशंसा करे, न कि तुम्हारे होठों से।

3 पत्थर भारी है, और रेत भी भारी है; परन्तु मूर्ख का क्रोध इन दोनों से भारी है।

4 क्रोध क्रूर और भयंकर क्रोध है, परन्तु ईर्ष्या के आगे कौन टिक सकता है?

5 खुली हुई डाँट छिपे हुए प्रेम से उत्तम है।

6 प्रेमी के घाव सच्चे होते हैं, परन्तु बैरी के चुम्बन कपटपूर्ण होते हैं।

7 तृप्त मन मधु के छत्ते को कुतरता है, परन्तु भूखे मन को हर कड़वी वस्तु मीठी लगती है।

8 जैसे पक्षी अपने घोंसले से भटक जाता है, वैसे ही मनुष्य अपने स्थान से भटक जाता है। 

9 तेल और इत्र मन को आनन्दित करते हैं, वैसे ही मित्र का रोग भी अच्छी सलाह से।

10 अपने मित्र को, न अपने पिता के मित्र को, और न अपने विपत्ति के दिन अपने भाई के घर में प्रवेश करना। दूर के भाई से निकट पड़ोसी उत्तम है।

11 हे मेरे पुत्र, बुद्धिमान हो और मेरे मन को आनन्दित कर, तब मैं अपने तुच्छ जाननेवाले को उत्तर दे सकूँगा।

12 बुद्धिमान मनुष्य विपत्ति को आते देखकर छिप जाता है, परन्तु भोले लोग आगे बढ़कर दण्ड पाते हैं।

13 जब कोई पराए का जामिन हो, तो उसका वस्त्र लेकर पराए के लिए गिरवी रख लेना।

14 जो कोई भोर को ऊँचे स्वर से अपने मित्र को आशीर्वाद दे, वह शापित गिना जाएगा।

15 बरसात के दिन का लगातार टपकना और झगड़ालू स्त्री एक समान हैं।

16 जो उसे रोकता है, वह वायु को रोकता है, और उसका दाहिना हाथ तेल को चमकाता है।

17 जैसे लोहा लोहे को तेज़ करता है, वैसे ही एक मनुष्य दूसरे मनुष्य के मुख को तेज़ करता है।

18 जो अंजीर के पेड़ की देखभाल करता है, वह उसका फल खाएगा, और जो अपने स्वामी की रक्षा करता है, उसका आदर होगा।

22 चाहे तू मूर्ख को जौ के बीच ओखली से कुचल दे, तौभी उसकी मूर्खता उससे दूर नहीं होगी।

23 अपने झुण्ड की दशा जानो; झुण्ड पर ध्यान दो।

24 क्योंकि धन सदा नहीं रहता; और क्या मुकुट पीढ़ी-दर-पीढ़ी बना रहना चाहिए? 

25 जब घास और कोंपलें फूटने लगें, तब पहाड़ों से साग-पात इकट्ठा करना।

26 मेमने तुम्हारे वस्त्र के लिये, और बकरियाँ खेत की कीमत के लिये होंगी।

27 और बकरियों का दूध तेरे, तेरे घराने और तेरी दासियों के भोजन के लिये बहुत होगा।

1 Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring.

2 Let a stranger praise you, and not your own mouth; a foreigner, and not your own lips.

3 A stone is heavy, and the sand is heavy; but the anger of a fool is heavier than both.

4 Wrath is cruel and outrageous anger, but who can stand before envy?

5 Open rebuke is better than hidden love.

6 Faithful are the wounds of a lover, but the kisses of an hater are deceitful.

7 A full soul gnaws at the honeycomb, but to a hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.

8 As a bird that wanders from its nest, so is a man who wanders from his place. 

9 Oil and perfume rejoice the heart, so does the illness of a friend with kind advice.

10 Do not forsake your friend, nor your father's friend, nor enter your brother's house in the day of your adversity. Better is a neighbor near than a brother far away.

11 Be wise, my son, and rejoice my heart, that I may have an answer for him who despises me.

12 A prudent man foresees evil and hides himself, but the simple pass on and are punished.

13 When someone becomes surety for a stranger, take his garment and take it to pledge for a stranger.

14 Whoever blesses his friend with a loud voice early in the morning will be counted a curse.

15 The continual dripping of a rainy day and a contentious woman are alike.

16 He who restrains her restrains the wind, and her right hand strikes oil.

17 As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens the countenance of another.

18 He who tends a fig tree will eat its fruit, and he who watches over his master will be honored.

19 As face responds to face in water, so the heart of man to man.

20 Hell and destruction are never satisfied, and the eyes of man are never satisfied.

21 The crucible is for silver, and the furnace for gold, and a man is tested by praise.

22 Though you crush a fool with a mortar among grains of barley, his folly will not depart from him.

23 Know the condition of your flock; set your heart on the herd.

24 For riches do not last forever; and should a crown endure from generation to generation? 

25 When the grass appears and the young shoots appear, then gather the herbs from the mountains.

26 The lambs will be for your clothing, and the goats for the price of the field.

27 And there will be plenty of goats' milk for your food, for the food of your household, and for the food of your maidens.

2 Louve-te o estranho, e não a tua boca, o estrangeiro e não os teus lábios.

3 Pesada é a pedra, e a areia também; mas a ira do insensato é mais pesada do que elas ambas.

4 Cruel é o furor e a impetuosa ira, mas quem parará perante a inveja?

5 Melhor é a repreensão aberta do que o amor encoberto.

6 Fiéis são as feridas feitas pelo que ama, mas os beijos do que aborrece são enganosos.

7 A alma farta pisa o favo de mel, mas à alma faminta todo o amargo é doce.

8 Qual a ave que vagueia longe do seu ninho, tal é o homem que anda vagueando longe do seu lugar.

9 O óleo e o perfume alegram o coração: assim a doença do amigo com o conselho cordial.

10 Não abandones o teu amigo, nem ao amigo de teu pai, nem entres na casa de teu irmão no dia da tua adversidade: melhor é o vizinho perto do que o irmão longe.

11 Sê sábio, filho meu, e alegra o meu coração; para que tenha alguma coisa que responder àquele que me desprezar.

12 O avisado vê o mal, esconde-se; mas os simples passam e sofrem a pena.

13 Quando alguém fica por fiador do estranho, toma-lhe tu a sua roupa, e penhora-o pela estranha.

14 O que bendiz ao seu amigo em alta voz, madrugando pela manhã, por maldição se lhe contará.

15 O gotejar contínuo do dia de grande chuva, e a mulher rixosa, uma e outra são semelhantes.

16 Aquele que a contivesse, conteria o vento; e a sua destra acomete o óleo.

17 Como o ferro com o ferro se aguça, assim o homem afia o rosto do seu amigo.

18 O que guarda a figueira comerá do seu fruto; e o que vela pelo seu senhor, será honrado.

19 Como na água o rosto corresponde ao rosto, assim o coração do homem ao homem.

20 O inferno e a perdição nunca se fartam, e os olhos do homem nunca se satisfazem.

21 O crisol é para a prata, e o forno para o ouro, e o homem é provado pelos louvores.

22 Ainda que pisasses o tolo com uma mão de gral entre grãos de cevada pilada, não se iria dele a sua estultícia.

23 Procura conhecer o estado das tuas ovelhas: põe o teu coração sobre o gado.

24 Porque as riquezas não duram para sempre: e duraria a coroa de geração em geração?

25 Quando se mostrar a erva, e aparecem os renovos, então ajunta as ervas dos montes.

26 Os cordeiros serão para te vestires, e os bodes para o preço do campo.

3 घोड़े के लिए कोड़ा, गधे के लिए लगाम और मूर्खों की पीठ के लिए छड़ी है।

4 मूर्ख को उसकी मूर्खता के अनुसार उत्तर न देना, कहीं ऐसा न हो कि तुम भी उसके समान ठहरो।

5 मूर्ख को उसकी मूर्खता के अनुसार उत्तर देना, कहीं ऐसा न हो कि तुम उसकी दृष्टि में बुद्धिमान ठहरो।

6 जो मूर्ख के हाथ से सन्देश भेजता है, वह अपने पाँव काट लेता है और हानि पीता है।

7 जैसे लंगड़े के पैर लटके रहते हैं, वैसे ही मूर्खों के मुँह में कहावत होती है।

8 जो मूर्ख को आदर देता है, वह उसके समान है जो गोफन में कीमती रत्न बाँधता है। 

9 जैसे शराबी के हाथ में काँटा चुभता है, वैसे ही मूर्खों के मुँह में कहावत होती है।

10 जैसे वह जानवर जो सबको डराता है, वैसा ही वह होता है जो मूर्खों और अपराधियों को मज़दूरी पर रखता है।

11 जैसे कुत्ता अपनी उल्टी पर लौट आता है, वैसे ही मूर्ख अपनी मूर्खता दोहराता है।

12 क्या तुमने ऐसा आदमी देखा है जो अपनी नज़र में बुद्धिमान हो? मूर्ख से ज़्यादा उम्मीद होती है।

13 आलसी आदमी कहता है, "रास्ते में शेर है; गलियों में शेर है।"

14 जैसे दरवाज़ा अपने कब्ज़ों पर घूमता है, वैसे ही आलसी आदमी अपने बिस्तर पर।

15 आलसी आदमी अपना हाथ अपनी छाती में छिपा लेता है; वह उसे मुँह में डालने से थक जाता है।

16 आलसी आदमी अपनी नज़र में उन सात आदमियों से भी ज़्यादा बुद्धिमान होता है जो कोई ठोस वजह बता सकते हैं।

17 जो कोई गुज़रता है और किसी और के झगड़े में दखल देता है, वह उस आदमी के समान है जो कुत्ते के कान पकड़ता है। 

18 जैसे पागल आदमी चिंगारियाँ, तीर और विनाश फेंकता है,

19 वैसे ही वह आदमी भी है जो अपने पड़ोसी को धोखा देकर कहता है, "मैंने यह मज़ाक में किया।"

20 लकड़ी न हो तो आग बुझ जाती है; और जहाँ गपशप नहीं होती, वहाँ झगड़ा मिट जाता है।

21 जैसे अंगारों के लिए कोयला और आग के लिए लकड़ी होती है, वैसे ही झगड़ालू आदमी झगड़ा भड़काने के लिए होता है।

22 गपशप करनेवाले के शब्द स्वादिष्ट निवाले के समान होते हैं जो पेट के अंदरूनी हिस्सों में उतर जाते हैं।

23 जलते हुए होंठ और दुष्ट हृदय चाँदी के मैल से ढके बर्तन के समान होते हैं।

24 जो घृणा करता है, वह होठों से तो छल करता है, परन्तु मन ही मन छल को छिपाता है।

25 जब वह अपनी वाणी से तुमसे विनती करे, तो उस पर विश्वास न करना, क्योंकि उसके हृदय में सात घृणित काम हैं। 

26 हालाँकि उनका बैर छल से ढका हुआ है, फिर भी उनकी द्वेष मण्डली में प्रकट हो जाएगा।

1 As snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, so honor is not seemly for a fool.

2 As a bird in its wandering, as a swallow in its flight, so a curse without cause will not come.

3 A whip is for the horse, a bridle for the donkey, and a rod for the backs of fools.

4 Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest you also be like him.

5 Answer a fool according to his folly, lest you be wise in his own eyes.

6 He who sends a message by the hand of a fool cuts off his feet and drinks damage.

7 As the legs of a lame man that hang limp, so is a proverb in the mouth of fools.

8 As one who binds a precious stone in a sling is one who gives honor to a fool. 

9 Like a thorn that goes into the hand of a drunkard, so is a proverb in the mouth of fools.

10 Like a beast that frightens everyone, so is he who hires fools and transgressors.

11 Like a dog that returns to its vomit, so is a fool who repeats his folly.

12 Have you seen a man who is wise in his own eyes? There is more hope of a fool than of him.

13 The lazy man says, "A lion is in the way; a lion is in the streets."

14 As a door turns on its hinges, so a lazy man in his bed.

15 The lazy man hides his hand in his bosom; he is weary to put it to his mouth.

16 A lazy man is wiser in his own eyes than seven men who can give a good reason.

17 He who passes by and meddles in a quarrel not his own is like one who takes a dog by the ears. 

18 Like a madman who throws out sparks, arrows, and destruction,

19 So is the man who deceives his neighbor, and says, "I did it in jest."

20 Without wood, the fire goes out; and where there is no gossip, strife ceases.

21 As coals are to embers, and wood to fire, so is a contentious man to kindle strife.

22 The words of a gossip are like dainty morsels that go down into the inmost parts of the belly.

23 Like a potsherd covered with silver dross are burning lips and a wicked heart.

24 He who hates dissembles with his lips, but inwardly he conceals deceit.

25 When he makes supplication to you with his voice, do not trust him, for seven abominations are in his heart. 

26 Though their hatred is covered by deceit, their malice will be revealed in the congregation.

27 Whoever digs a pit will fall into it, and whoever rolls a stone, it will roll back on him.

28 A lying tongue hates those it has amazed, and a flattering mouth works ruin.

4 Não respondas ao tolo segundo a sua estultícia, para que também te não faças semelhante a ele.

5 Responde ao tolo segundo a sua estultícia, para que não seja sábio aos seus olhos.

6 Os pés corta, e o dano bebe, quem manda mensagens pela mão de um tolo.

7 Como as pernas do coxo, que pendem frouxas, assim é o provérbio na boca dos tolos.

8 Como o que prende a pedra preciosa na funda, assim é aquele que dá honra ao tolo.

9 Como o espinho que entra na mão do ébrio, assim é o provérbio na boca dos tolos.

10 Como um besteiro, que a todos espanta, assim é o que assalaria os tolos e os transgressores.

11 Como o cão que torna ao seu vômito, assim é o tolo que reitera a sua estultícia.

12 Tens visto a um homem que é sábio a seus próprios olhos? Maior esperança há no tolo do que nele.

13 Diz o preguiçoso: Um leão está no caminho; um leão está nas ruas.

14 Como a porta se revolve nos seus gonzos, assim o preguiçoso na sua cama.

24 Aquele que aborrece dissimula com os seus beiços, mas o seu interior encobre engano.

25 Quando te suplicar com a sua voz, não te fies nele, porque sete abominações há no seu coração.

26 Ainda que o seu ódio se encobre com engano, a sua malícia se descobrirá na congregação.

27 O que faz uma cova nela cairá; e o que revolve a pedra, esta sobre ele rolará.

1 ये भी सुलैमान की नीतिवचन हैं, जिन्हें यहूदा के राजा हिजकिय्याह के आदमियों ने नकल किया था।

2 परमेश्वर की महिमा किसी बात को छिपाना है, परन्तु राजाओं की महिमा सब कुछ खोज निकालने में है।

3 क्योंकि ऊपर आकाश और नीचे पृथ्वी, और राजाओं के हृदय, खोज से परे हैं।

4 चाँदी में से मैल निकाल दो, तब ताननेवाले के लिये एक पात्र निकलेगा।

5 दुष्टों को राजा के सामने से दूर करो, तब उसका सिंहासन धर्म में स्थिर होगा।

6 राजा के सामने घमंड मत करो, और न ही बड़े लोगों के स्थान पर खड़े होओ।

7 क्योंकि यह अच्छा है कि वे तुमसे कहें, 'यहाँ ऊपर आओ,' बजाय इसके कि तुम उस राजकुमार के सामने, जिसे तुमने अपनी आँखों से देखा है, नम्र हो जाओ। 

8 अपने तर्क में जल्दबाज़ी न करना, कहीं ऐसा न हो कि अन्त में तुम समझ ही न पाओ कि क्या करना है, और तुम्हारा पड़ोसी तुम्हें उलझा दे।

11 चाँदी की टोकरियों में सोने के सेबों के समान, उचित रीति से बोला हुआ वचन होता है।

12 सुननेवाले के लिए बुद्धिमानी भरी डाँट सोने की बालियों और शुद्ध सोने के आभूषणों के समान होती है।

13 कटनी के समय बर्फ की ठंडक के समान, विश्वासयोग्य दूत अपने भेजनेवालों के लिए होता है, क्योंकि वह अपने स्वामियों के मन को तृप्त करता है।

14 जो मनुष्य दान का झूठा घमण्ड करता है, वह बिना वर्षा के बादलों और वायु के समान है।

15 धीरज से हाकिम मनाया जाता है, और कोमल वाणी हड्डियों को तोड़ देती है। 

16 क्या तुम्हें शहद मिला है? अपने लिए पर्याप्त खा लो, कहीं ऐसा न हो कि तुम उससे भर जाओ और उसे उगल दो।

17 अपने पड़ोसी के घर से दूर रहो, कहीं ऐसा न हो कि वह तुमसे ऊबकर तुमसे घृणा करने लगे।

18 जो अपने पड़ोसी के विरुद्ध झूठी गवाही देता है, वह हथौड़ा, तलवार और तीखे तीर के समान है।

19 विपत्ति के समय विश्वासघाती का भरोसा टूटे हुए दाँत या मोच के समान है।

20 जो उदास मन से गीत गाता है, वह ठण्डे दिन में अपने कपड़े उतारनेवाले के समान है, और मधु पर सिरके के समान है।

21 यदि तेरा शत्रु भूखा हो, तो उसे रोटी खाने को दे; और यदि वह प्यासा हो, तो उसे पानी पिला।

22 क्योंकि तू उसके सिर पर जलते हुए अंगारों का ढेर लगाएगा, और यहोवा तुझे बदला देगा।

23 उत्तर की हवा वर्षा को दूर भगा देती है, और क्रोधी मुख चुगली करनेवाली वाणी को। 

24 बड़े घर में झगड़ालू स्त्री के साथ रहने से अटारी के कोने में रहना अच्छा है।

25 जैसे थके हुए मन के लिए दूर देश से शुभ समाचार ठंडा जल होता है।

26 धर्मी मनुष्य दुष्टों के आगे गिरता है, और वह व्याकुल सोते या भ्रष्ट सोते के समान है।

27 बहुत अधिक मधु खाना अच्छा नहीं है, और न ही अपनी बड़ाई की खोज करना अच्छा है।

1 These are also proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied down.

2 It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, but the glory of kings is to search out everything.

3 For heaven above, and earth beneath, and the heart of kings, there is no searching.

4 Take away the dross from the silver, and there shall come forth a vessel for the refiner.

5 Remove the wicked from the presence of the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.

6 Do not boast in the presence of the king, nor stand in the place of great men.

7 For it is better that they say to you, 'Come up here,' than that you should be humbled before the prince whom your eyes have seen. 

8 Do not be hasty in your argument, lest in the end you not know what to do, and your neighbor may confound you.

9 Plead your case with your neighbor himself, and do not discover another's secret.

10 Lest he who hears it dishonor you, and infamy will not depart from you.

11 Like apples of gold in settings of silver is a word fitly spoken.

12 Like earrings of gold and ornaments of fine gold is a wise rebuke to a listening ear.

13 Like the coldness of snow in the time of harvest is a faithful messenger to those who send him, for he refreshes the souls of his masters.

14 Like clouds and wind without rain is a man who boasts falsely of gifts.

15 By patience a ruler is persuaded, and a soft tongue breaks the bones. 

16 Have you found honey? Eat enough for yourself, lest you be filled with it and vomit it out.

17 Keep your foot away from your neighbor's house, lest he become weary of you and hate you.

18 A hammer, a sword, and a sharp arrow is a man who bears false witness against his neighbor.

19 Like a broken tooth or a sprained foot is the confidence of a faithless person in a time of trouble.

20 Like one who takes off his clothes on a cold day is one who sings songs to a heavy heart, and like vinegar upon nitre.

21 If your enemy is hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he is thirsty, give him water to drink.

22 For you will heap burning coals on his head, and the Lord will repay you.

23 The north wind drives away the rain, and an angry face a backbiting tongue. 

24 Better to live in a corner of a garret than with a quarrelsome woman in a large house.

25 Like cold water to a weary soul is good news from a far country.

26 Like a troubled spring or a corrupt fountain is a righteous man who falls before the wicked.

27 Eating much honey is not good, nor is seeking one's own glory.

1 Também estes são provérbios de Salomão, os quais transcreveram os homens de Ezequias, rei de Judá.

2 A glória de Deus é encobrir o negócio; mas a glória dos reis é tudo investigar.

3 Para a altura dos céus, e para a profundeza da terra, e para o coração dos reis, não há investigação alguma.

4 Tira da prata as escórias, e sairá vaso para o fundidor.

5 Tira o ímpio da presença do rei, e o seu trono se firmará na justiça.

6 Não te glories na presença do rei, nem te ponhas no lugar dos grandes.

7 Porque melhor é que te digam: Sobe para aqui; do que seres humilhado diante do príncipe a quem já os teus olhos viram.

8 Não te apresses a litigar, para depois, ao fim, não saberes o que hás de fazer, podendo-te confundir o teu próximo.

9 Pleiteia a tua causa com o teu próximo mesmo, e não descubras o segredo de outro:

10 Para que não te desonre o que o ouvir, não se apartando de ti a infâmia.

11 Como maçãs de ouro em salvas de prata, assim é a palavra dita a seu tempo.

12 Como pendentes de ouro e gargantilhas de ouro fino, assim, é o sábio repreensor para o ouvido ouvinte.

13 Como frieza de neve no tempo da sega, assim é o mensageiro fiel para com os que o enviam; porque recreia a alma dos seus senhores.

19 Como dente quebrado, e pé deslocado, é a confiança do desleal, no tempo da angústia.

20 O que entoa canções junto ao coração aflito é como aquele que se despe num dia de frio, e como vinagre sobre salitre.

21 Se o que te aborrece tiver fome, dá-lhe pão para comer; e se tiver sede, dá-lhe água para beber;

22 Porque assim brasas lhe amontoarás sobre a cabeça; e o Senhor to pagará.

23 O vento norte afugenta a chuva, e a face irada a língua fingida.

5 बुद्धिमान मनुष्य बलवान होता है, और ज्ञानी मनुष्य बल को दृढ़ करता है।

6 क्योंकि बुद्धिमानी भरी सलाह से तू युद्ध करेगा, और बहुत से सलाहकारों के द्वारा विजय प्राप्त होगी।

1 Do not envy evil men, nor desire to be with them,

2 For their heart plots robbery, and their lips speak wickedly.

3 By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established.

4 And by knowledge the chambers are filled with all precious and pleasant things.

5 A wise man is strong, and a man of knowledge strengthens strength.

6 For by wise counsel you will wage war, and in the multitude of counselors there is victory.

7 All wisdom is too high for a fool; he will not open his mouth in the gate.

8 He who devises evil will be called a teacher of evil devices.

9 The thoughts of a fool are sin, and a scoffer is an abomination to men.

10 If you are weak in the day of adversity, your strength will be small. 

11 Deliver those who are destined for death, and those who are led away to slaughter, if you can bring them out.

12 If you say, "Behold, we do not know," will not He who weighs the hearts consider it? And He who looks at your soul, will not He who considers your life know it? Will He not repay a man according to his work?

13 Eat honey, my son, for it is good, and the honeycomb, for it is sweet to your taste.

14 Such will be the knowledge of wisdom for your soul; if you find it, there will be a reward for you, and your expectation will not be cut off.

15 Do not spy on the dwelling of the righteous, O wicked man, nor destroy his chamber.

16 For a righteous man falls seven times and rises again, but the wicked stumble over evil.

17 Do not rejoice when your enemy falls, nor let your heart be glad when he stumbles. 

18 Lest the Lord see it, and it displease him, and he turn away his anger from him.

19 Do not fret because of evildoers, nor be envious of the wicked.

20 For the evil one will have no reward, and the lamp of the wicked will be extinguished.

21 Fear the Lord, my son, and the king, and do not have anything to do with those who seek change.

22 For their calamity will suddenly arise, and who can know their ruin?

23 These are also proverbs of the wise: Showing respect for persons in judgment is not good.

24 Whoever says to the wicked, 'You are righteous,' will be cursed by the peoples, and nations will abhor him.

25 But those who rebuke will find delight, and a blessing of good will come upon them. 

26 Kiss with your lips the one who answers with upright words.

27 Prepare your work outside, and make it ready in the field, and then build your house.

28 Do not be a witness against your neighbor without cause; why would you deceive with your lips?

29 Do not say, 'As he did to me, so I will do to him; I will repay each person according to their work.'

30 I passed by the field of the sluggard, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding;

31 And behold, it was all overgrown with thistles, its surface overgrown with nettles, and its stone wall was broken down.

32 When I saw it, I considered it; and seeing it, I received instruction.

33 A little sleep, slumbering a little, folding your hands a little to lie down;

34 So poverty will come upon you like a thief, and want like an armed man.

3 Com a sabedoria se edifica a casa, e com a inteligência ela se firma:

4 E pelo conhecimento se encherão as câmaras de todas as substâncias preciosas e deleitáveis.

6 Porque com conselhos prudentes tu farás a guerra; e há vitória na multidão dos conselheiros.

8 Aquele que cuida em fazer mal, mestre de maus intentos o chamarão.

9 O pensamento do tolo é pecado, e é abominável aos homens o escarnecedor.

23 Também estes são provérbios dos sábios: Ter respeito a pessoas no juízo não é bom.

1 When you sit down to eat with a ruler, consider carefully what is set before you.

2 And put a knife to your throat if you are a glutton.

3 Do not desire his dainty food, for it is bread of lies.

4 Do not labor to get rich; give up your own wisdom.

5 Will you fix your eyes on that which is nothing? For it will surely grow into wings and fly away like an eagle to the sky.

6 Do not eat the bread of him who has evil eyes, nor desire his dainty food.

7 For as he thinks in his heart, so it is; he will say to you, 'Eat and drink,' but his heart will not be with you.

8 You will vomit up the morsel you have eaten and lose your sweet words. 

9 Do not speak in the ears of a fool, for he will despise the wisdom of your words.

10 Do not remove ancient landmarks, nor enter the possessions of the fatherless.

11 For their Redeemer is strong; he will plead their cause against you.

12 Apply your heart to discipline, and your ears to words of knowledge.

13 Do not withhold discipline from a child, for if you beat him with the rod, he will not die.

14 You will beat him with the rod and deliver his soul from hell.

15 My son, if your heart is wise, my heart will rejoice, even my own.

16 And my reins will rejoice when your lips speak right things.

17 Do not let your heart envy sinners, but be in the fear of the Lord all the day long. 

18 For there is indeed a good end; your hope will not be cut off.

19 Hear, my son, and be wise, and direct your heart in the way.

20 Do not be among heavy drinkers of wine, nor among gluttons of meat.

21 For the drunkard and the glutton will come to poverty, and drowsiness will wear out the garments.

22 Listen to your father who gave you birth, and do not despise your mother when she is old.

23 Buy truth, and do not sell it; wisdom, instruction, and prudence.

24 The father of the righteous will greatly rejoice, and he who begets a wise man will have joy in him.

25 Let your father and your mother be glad, and let her who gave you birth rejoice. 

26 Give me your heart, my son, and let your eyes observe my ways.

27 For a prostitute is a deep pit, and a strange woman a narrow well.

28 She also, like a robber, lies in wait and increases the wicked among men.

29 Whose are the woes? Whose are the sorrows? Whose are the fights? Whose are the complaints? Whose are the wounds without cause? And who have red eyes?

30 Those who linger over wine, those who go after mixed drinks.

31 Do not look at wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup and goes down smoothly.

32 In the end it will bite like a snake and sting like a viper.

33 Your eyes will look at strange women, and your heart will speak perverse things. 

34 And you will be like one who sleeps in the middle of the sea, or like one who sleeps on the top of a mast. 

35 And you will say, 'They struck me, and it did not hurt; they beat me, and I did not feel it. When will I awake? I will seek her again.'

9 Não fales aos ouvidos do tolo, porque desprezará a sabedoria das tuas palavras.

10 Não removas os limites antigos, nem entres nas herdades dos órfãos.

11 Porque o seu redentor é forte; ele pleiteará a sua causa contra ti.

12 Aplica à disciplina o teu coração e os teus ouvidos às palavras do conhecimento.

13 Não retires a disciplina da criança, porque, fustigando-a com a vara, nem por isso morrerá.

14 Tu a fustigarás com a vara e livrarás a sua alma do inferno.

15 Filho meu, se o teu coração for sábio, alegrar-se-á o meu coração, sim, o meu próprio.

17 Incline your ear and hear the words of the wise, and apply your heart to my knowledge.

18 For it is a pleasant thing if you store them up in your heart, if you apply them all to your lips.

19 That your trust may be in the Lord, I have made known to you today, even to you.

20 Have I not written to you excellent things in all counsel and knowledge,

21 To make you know the certainty of the words of truth, that you may answer the words of truth to those who send you?

22 Do not rob the poor because they are poor, nor crush the afflicted in the gate.

1 अच्छा नाम बड़े धन से बढ़कर है, और अनुग्रह धन और सोने से उत्तम है।

2 धनी और निर्धन एक साथ मिले हैं; यहोवा ने उन सबको बनाया है।

3 बुद्धिमान मनुष्य विपत्ति को देखकर छिप जाता है, परन्तु भोले लोग बच निकलते हैं और दण्ड पाते हैं।

4 नम्रता और यहोवा के भय का प्रतिफल धन, सम्मान और जीवन है।

5 दुष्टों के मार्ग में काँटे और फन्दे होते हैं; जो अपने प्राणों की रक्षा करता है, वह उनसे दूर रहता है।

6 बच्चे को उसी मार्ग पर चलना सिखाओ जिस पर उसे चलना चाहिए, और वह बुढ़ापे में भी उससे न हटेगा।

7 धनी निर्धन पर शासन करता है, और उधार लेनेवाला उधार देनेवाले का दास होता है।

8 जो अधर्म बोता है, वह विपत्ति काटेगा, और उसके क्रोध की छड़ी टूट जाएगी।
