II Chronicles 29 Hezekiah Orders the Cleansing of the Temple

 II Chronicles 29

Hezekiah Orders the Cleansing of the Temple

1 Hezekiah was twenty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Abijah the daughter of Zechariah.

2 And he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, according to all that David his father had done.

3 In the first year of his reign, in the first month, he opened the doors of the house of the Lord and repaired them.

4 Then he brought the priests and the Levites and assembled them in the square on the east side.

5 And he said to them, "Listen to me, you Levites! Now consecrate yourselves and consecrate the house of the Lord, the God of your fathers, and remove the filth from the sanctuary.

6 For our fathers transgressed and did evil in the eyes of the Lord our God, and forsook Him; and they turned their faces away from the tabernacle of the Lord and turned their backs on Him.

7 They also shut the doors of the porch, and put out the lamps, and they did not burn incense or offer burnt offerings in the sanctuary to the God of Israel.

8 Therefore the wrath of the Lord came upon Judah and Jerusalem, and he gave them over to confusion, desolation, and hissing, as you see with your own eyes.

9 For, behold, our fathers have fallen by the sword, and our sons, our daughters, and our wives have been in captivity.

10 Now it has come into my heart to make a covenant with the Lord, the God of Israel, so that his fierce anger may turn away from us.

11 And now, my sons, do not be negligent, for the Lord has chosen you to stand before him, to minister to him, and to be his ministers and to burn incense.

II Crônicas 29 Ezequias manda purificar o templo

II Crônicas 29

Ezequias manda purificar o templo

5 E lhes disse: Ouvi-me, ó levitas santificai-vos agora, e santificai a casa do Senhor, Deus de vossos pais, e tirai do santuário a imundícia.

II Chronicles 28 Ahaz Seeks Help from the Kings of Assyria and Finds None

 II Chronicles 28

Ahaz Seeks Help from the Kings of Assyria and Finds None

16 At that time King Ahaz sent to the kings of Assyria to ask for help.

17 Moreover the Edumeans also came and defeated Judah and carried away captives.

18 The Philistines also invaded the cities of the plain and of the Negev of Judah, and took Beth-shemesh, Aijalon, Gederoth, and Socoh with its towns, and Ginzo with its towns, and lived there.

19 For the Lord had humbled Judah because of Ahaz king of Israel, because he had led Judah astray, and they had transgressed greatly against the Lord.

20 Then Tilgath-pilneser king of Assyria came to him. but he put him in distress, and it did not strengthen him.

21 For Ahaz took a portion of the house of the Lord, and of the house of the king and of the princes, and gave it to the king of Assyria; but he did not help him.

22 And when he distressed him, he transgressed yet more against the Lord; such was King Ahaz.

23 For he sacrificed to the gods of Damascus, who had smitten him, and said, Because the gods of the kings of Syria help them, I will sacrifice to them, that they may help me. But they were the ruin of him, and of all Israel.

24 And Ahaz gathered together the vessels of the house of the Lord, and broke in pieces the vessels of the house of God, and shut up the doors of the house of the Lord, and made himself altars in every corner of Jerusalem.

25 And in every city of Judah he made high places to burn incense to other gods: thus he provoked the Lord, the God of his fathers, to anger.

26 Now the rest of his acts, and all his ways, first and last, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.

27 And Ahaz slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city, even in Jerusalem, but they did not put him in the tombs of the kings of Israel: and Hezekiah his son reigned in his stead.

5 इस कारण उसके परमेश्वर यहोवा ने उसे अरामियोंके राजा के हाथ में कर दिया, और उस ने उसे मारा, और उसके पास से बहुत से बन्धुओंको बन्धुआ करके दमिश्क में ले आया;

13 और उन्होंने उन से कहा, तुम उन बन्धुओं को यहां न लाना; क्योंकि तुम यहोवा के विरूद्ध हमारे अपराध के कारण हमारे पापों और अपराधों को और बढ़ाना चाहते हो;

II Chronicles 28 Ahaz is wicked and the Syrians oppress him

 II Chronicles 28

Ahaz is wicked and the Syrians oppress him

1 Ahaz was twenty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem. But he did not do what was right in the eyes of the Lord, as David his father had done.

2 But he walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, and made molten images for Baalim.

3 He also burned incense in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, and burned his sons in the fire, according to the abominations of the nations whom the Lord had driven out before the children of Israel.

4 He also sacrificed and burned incense on the high places and on the hills, and under every green tree.

5 Therefore the Lord his God delivered him into the hand of the king of the Syrians, who defeated him and carried away a great multitude of captives from him, and brought them to Damascus. He was also delivered into the hand of the king of Israel, who struck him with a severe wound.

6 For Pekah the son of Remaliah killed in one day in Judah one hundred and twenty thousand, all of them warlike men, because they had forsaken the Lord, the God of their fathers.

7 And Zincri, a mighty man of Ephraim, killed Maaseiah the king's son, and Azrikam the governor of the house, and Elkanah, who was next to the king.

8 And the children of Israel took captive of their brethren two hundred thousand, women, sons, and daughters; and they also took much spoil from them, and brought the spoil to Samaria.

9 And there was a prophet of the Lord there, whose name was Obed; and he went out to meet the army that was coming to Samaria, and said to them, Behold, the Lord, the God of your fathers, was angry with Judah, and delivered them into your hands; and you have killed them in a rage that reached to heaven.

10 And now you are thinking of bringing the people of Judah and Jerusalem into captivity as captives, and are you not among them who are guilty of trespass against the Lord your God?

11 Now therefore listen to me, and send back the captives whom you have brought captive from your brothers, for the fierce anger of the Lord is upon you.

12 Then some of the leaders of the children of Ephraim, Azariah the son of Johanan, Berechiah the son of Meshillemoth, and Jezkiah the son of Shallum, and Amasa the son of Hadlai, rose up against those who were returning from the battle.

13 And they said to them, “You shall not bring in these captives here, because in our trespass against the Lord you intend to add to our sins and to our trespass, since we are already guilty and the fierce anger is upon Israel.”

14 Then the armed men left the captives and the spoil before the leaders and all the congregation.

15 And the men who were mentioned by name arose and took the captives, and clothed all who were naked among them with the spoil; and they clothed them, and shod them, and gave them food and drink, and anointed them; and all who were feeble they put on donkeys, and brought them to Jericho, to the city of palm trees, to their brethren; and they returned to Samaria.

Jotham Reigns Well and Defeats the Ammonites

1 Jotham was twenty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem; and his mother's name was Jerusha, the daughter of Zadok.

2 And he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, according to all that his father Uzziah had done, except that he did not enter the temple of the Lord. And the people still corrupted themselves.

3 He built the high gate of the house of the Lord, and also built many on the wall of Ophel.

4 He also built cities in the hill country of Judah, and built castles and towers in the woods.

5 He also made war against the king of the children of Ammon and prevailed over them, so that the children of Ammon gave him that year a hundred talents of silver, and ten thousand measures of wheat, and ten thousand measures of barley. The children of Ammon also brought him these in the second and third years.

6 So Jotham became strong, because he prepared his ways before the Lord his God.

7 Now the rest of the acts of Jotham, and all his wars, and his ways, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah.

8 He was twenty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem.

9 Then Jotham slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the City of David; and Ahaz his son reigned in his place.

II Chronicles 26 Uzziah Is Smitten with Leprosy

 II Chronicles 26

Uzziah Is Smitten with Leprosy

16 But when he had become strong, his heart was lifted up until it became corrupt, and he transgressed against the Lord his God, for he went into the temple of the Lord to burn incense on the altar of incense.

17 But Azariah the priest went in after him, and with him eighty priests of the Lord, mighty men of valor.

18 And they resisted King Uzziah, and said to him, "It is not for you, Uzziah, to burn incense before the Lord, but for the priests the sons of Aaron, who are consecrated to burn incense. Get out of the sanctuary, for you have transgressed; and it will not be to your honor from the Lord God."

19 Then Uzziah was angry; and he had the censer in his hand to burn incense. And when he was angry with the priests, the leprosy broke out on his forehead before the priests in the house of the Lord, beside the altar of incense.

20 Then Azariah the high priest looked at him, and so did all the priests, and behold, he was leprous on his forehead. So they threw him out in haste; and he himself hurried to get out, because the Lord had struck him.

21 So King Uzziah was a leper until the day of his death. Because he was a leper, he lived in a separate house, for he was excluded from the house of the Lord. And Jotham his son was over the king's household, judging the people of the land.

22 Now the rest of the acts of Uzziah, first and last, were written by Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz.

23 So Uzziah slept with his fathers, and they buried him with his fathers in the field of burial that belonged to the kings, for they said, "He is a leper." And Jotham his son reigned in his place.

II Chronicles 26 Uzziah Reigns and Prospers

 II Chronicles 26

Uzziah Reigns and Prospers

1 Then all the people took Uzziah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king in place of his father Amaziah.

2 He built Elod and restored it to Judah, after the king had slept with his fathers.

3 Uzziah was sixteen years old when he began to reign, and he reigned fifty-five years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Jecoliah of Jerusalem.

4 And he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, according to all that his father Amaziah had done.

5 For he sought God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding in the visions of God; and in the days that he sought the Lord, God gave him success.

6 For he went out and fought against the Philistines, and broke down the wall of Gath, the wall of Jabneh, and the wall of Ashdod. and he built cities in Ashdod and among the Philistines.

7 And God helped him against the Philistines and against the Arabians who lived in Gur-baal, and against the Meunites.

8 And the Ammonites gave gifts to Uzziah, and his fame spread even to the entrance of Egypt, for he fortified himself greatly.

9 And Uzziah built towers in Jerusalem at the Corner Gate, at the Valley Gate, and at the corners, and fortified them.

10 And he built towers in the wilderness, and dug many wells; for he had much livestock, both in the valleys and in the plains; and there were farmers and vinedressers on the hills and in the fertile fields; for he loved agriculture.

11 Uzziah also had an army of men skilled in war, who went out to war in groups, according to the number of the list made by Jeiel the recorder and Maaseiah the officer, under the hand of Hananiah, one of the king's princes.

12 The total number of the heads of the fathers' houses, mighty men of valor, was two thousand six hundred.

13 And under their command was an army of warriors of three hundred and seven thousand five hundred, who went to war with great force, to help the king against his enemies.

14 And Uzziah prepared for them for the whole army shields, spears, helmets, coats of mail, bows, and slings for pelting stones.

15 He also made in Jerusalem engines invented by engineers, to be placed on the towers and on the corners, to pelt arrows and large stones. And his fame spread far and wide, for he was greatly helped until he became strong.

II Crônicas 26 Uzias reina e prospera

II Crônicas 26

Uzias reina e prospera

II Chronicles 25 God punishes Amaziah for idolatry!

 II Chronicles 25

God punishes Amaziah for idolatry!

14 And it came to pass, after Amaziah returned from the slaughter of the Edomites, that he brought with him gods of the children of Seir, and took them for his gods, and bowed down before them, and burned incense to them.

15 Then the anger of the Lord was kindled against Amaziah, and he sent a prophet to him, who said to him, Why have you sought after the gods of the people, which have not delivered their people out of your hand?

16 And it came to pass, when he spake unto him, that he answered, Have they made you counselor to the king? Hold your peace, why have they smitten you? Then the prophet stood still, and said, I perceive that the Lord hath determined to destroy you; because you have done this thing, and have not hearkened unto my counsel.

17 Then Amaziah king of Judah took counsel and sent to Joash son of Jehoahaz, son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, “Come, let us look one another in the face.”

18 But Joash king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, “The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying, ‘Give your daughter to my son as a wife.’ But the wild animals that are in Lebanon passed by and trampled the thistle.

19 You said, ‘See, I have struck down the Edomites.’ Their hearts were lifted up to boast. Now therefore stay at home. Why should you take this trouble, so that you and Judah with you may fall?’

20 But Amaziah would not listen, because it was from God, to give them into the hands of their enemies, because they sought the gods of the Edomites.

21 Then Joash king of Israel went up, and he and Amaziah king of Judah faced each other at Beth Shemesh, which belongs to Judah.

22 Judah was defeated before Israel, and they each went to their tents.

23 Then Joash king of Israel captured Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Joash, the son of Jehoahaz, at Beth Shemesh, and brought him to Jerusalem. He broke down the wall of Jerusalem from the gate of Ephraim to the corner gate, four hundred cubits.

24 He also took all the gold and silver and all the vessels that were found in the house of God with Obed-Edom, as well as the treasures of the king's house and the hostages, and returned to Samaria.

25 Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah lived after the death of Joash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel fifteen years.

26 Now the rest of the acts of Amaziah, first and last, are they not written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel?

27 From the time that Amaziah turned away from the Lord, they conspired against him in Jerusalem, but he fled to Lachish. But they sent after him to Lachish and killed him there.

28 They brought him on horses and buried him with his ancestors in the city of Judah.
