Solomon asks Hiram, king of Tyre, to help him build the temple

1 Now Solomon determined to build a house for the name of the Lord, and a house for his kingdom.

2 And Solomon numbered seventy thousand men of burden, and eighty thousand to cut down in the hill country, and three thousand six hundred overseers over them.

3 And Solomon sent to Hiram, king of Tyre, saying, As you dealt with David my father, and sent him cedars to build a house to dwell in, so deal with me.

4 Behold, I am about to build a house for the name of the Lord my God, to consecrate it to him, to burn sweet incense before him, and for the continual showbread, and for the burnt offerings morning and evening, on the Sabbaths, on the new moons, and on the feasts of the Lord our God: which is the perpetual obligation of Israel.

5 And the house that I am about to build must be great, for our God is greater than all gods. 

6 But who has the strength to build him a house, since the heavens and the highest heavens cannot contain him? And who am I, that I should build him a house, except to burn incense before him? 

7 Now therefore send me a wise man to work in gold, and in silver, and in bronze, and in iron, and in purple, and in scarlet, and in blue, and one who can work in the Kuril, with the wise men who are with me in Judah and Jerusalem, whom my father David prepared. 

8 Send me also cedar, fir, and algum trees from Lebanon; for I know that your servants know how to cut timber in Lebanon; and, behold, my servants will be with your servants, 

9 and to prepare timber in abundance, for the house that I am about to build must be great and wonderful.

10 And behold, I will give to your servants the hewers, who cut the timber, twenty thousand measures of beaten wheat, and twenty thousand measures of barley, and twenty thousand baths of wine, and twenty thousand baths of oil.

11 And Hiram king of Tyre answered in writing, and sent to Solomon, saying, Because the LORD loves his people, he has made you king over them.

12 And Hiram said, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, who made heaven and earth, who has given king David a wise son, one of great understanding and understanding, who will build a house for the LORD and for his kingdom.

13 And now I am sending a wise man of great understanding, even Hiram Abihu;

14 He is the son of a woman of the daughters of Dan, whose father was a man of Tyre: He has skill in working in gold, silver, bronze, iron, stones, wood, purple, blue, fine linen and scarlet. He is skilled in all kinds of engraving and in all kinds of clever devices, whatever is required of him, together with your wise men and the wise men of my lord David your father.

15 Now therefore, let my lord send to his servants the wheat, barley, oil and wine that he has spoken of.

16 And we will cut down timber in Lebanon, as much as you need, and we will bring it to you in rafts by sea to Joppa, and you shall bring it up to Jerusalem.

17 And Solomon numbered all the foreigners who were in the land of Israel, according to the number that David his father had numbered them. And there were one hundred and fifty-three thousand and six hundred.

 18 And he made of them seventy thousand carters, and eighty thousand hewers in the hill country; and three thousand and six hundred overseers, to cause the people to work.

3 E Salomão enviou a Hirão, rei de Tiro, dizendo: Como usaste com Davi meu pai, e lhe mandaste cedros, para edificar uma casa em que morasse, assim também usa comigo.

4 Eis que estou para edificar uma casa ao nome do Senhor meu Deus, para lhe consagrar, para queimar perante ele incenso aromático, e para o pão continuo de proposição, e para os holocaustos da manhã e da tarde, nos sábados, e nas luas novas, e nas festividades do Senhor nosso Deus: o que é perpetuamente a obrigação de Israel.

5 E a casa que estou para edificar há de ser grande; porque o nosso Deus é maior do que todos os deuses.

13 So Solomon came to Jerusalem from the high place that was at Gibeon, from before the tent of meeting, and reigned over Israel.

14 Solomon gathered together chariots and horsemen, and had one thousand four hundred chariots and twelve thousand horsemen, and he stationed them in the chariot cities and with the king in Jerusalem.

15 The king made gold and silver in Jerusalem as abundant as stones, and cedars as abundant as the sycamore trees that are in the plains.

16 Solomon's horses were brought from Egypt, and the king's merchants took linen yarn at a price.

17 They brought a chariot and a horse out of Egypt for six hundred shekels of silver, and a horse for a hundred and fifty; and so they brought horses out of Egypt for all the kings of the Hittites and for the kings of Syria.

Solomon Asks God for Wisdom

7 That same night God appeared to Solomon and said to him, “Ask whatever you want me to give you.”

8 And Solomon said to God, “You have shown great kindness to my father David, and have made me king in his place.

9 Now, O Lord God, let your word to my father David be confirmed, for you have made me king over a people as numerous as the dust of the earth.

10 Now therefore give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people; for who is able to judge this great people of yours?” 

11 Then God said to Solomon, “Because this was in your heart, and you did not ask for riches, wealth, or honor, or for the life of those who hate you, nor did you ask for long life, but you asked for wisdom and knowledge, that you might judge my people, over whom I have made you king; 

12 Wisdom and knowledge have been given to you, and I will give you riches, wealth, and honor, such as no king before you has had; nor will there be any after you like it.

7 Naquela mesma noite Deus apareceu a Salomão, e disse-lhe: Pede o que quiseres que eu te dê.

8 E Salomão disse a Deus: Tu usaste de grande beneficência com meu pai Davi: e a mim me fizeste rei em seu lugar.

9 Agora pois,ó Senhor Deus, confirme-se a tua palavra, dada a meu pai Davi; porque tu me fizeste rei sobre um povo mui numeroso como o pó da terra.

10 Dá-me pois agora sabedoria e conhecimento, para que eu possa sair e entrar perante este povo; porque quem poderia julgar a este  teu tão grande povo?

11 Então Deus disse a Salomão: Porquanto houve isto no teu coração, e não pediste riquezas, fazenda, ou honra, nem a morte dos que te aborrecem, nem tampouco pediste muitos dias de vida, mas pediste para ti sabedoria e conhecimento, para poderes julgar a meu povo, sobre o qual te pus rei,

1 Now Solomon the son of David prospered in his kingdom; and the Lord his God was with him, and greatly magnified it.

2 Then Solomon spoke to all Israel, to the captains over thousands and hundreds, and to the judges, and to all the princes in all Israel, chief of the fathers' houses.

3 Then Solomon and all the congregation with him went to the high place that was at Gibeon, for there was the tent of the congregation of God, which Moses the servant of the Lord had made in the wilderness.

4 Now David had brought up the ark of God from Kiriath-jearim to the place that David had prepared for it; for he had pitched a tent for it in Jerusalem.

5 And the bronze altar that Bazaleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, had made, was there before the tabernacle of the Lord; and Solomon and the congregation visited it.

6 And Solomon offered there sacrifices before the Lord upon the bronze altar that was in the tabernacle of the congregation, and offered upon it a thousand burnt offerings.

1 Then King David said to the whole assembly, "My son Solomon, whom God alone has chosen, is still young and inexperienced, and the work is great, for it is not a palace for man but for the Lord God.

2 I have prepared with all my might for the house of my God gold for the things of gold, silver for the things of silver, brass for the things of brass, iron for the things of iron, and wood for the things of wood, onyx stones and stones to be set, ornamental stones and inlaid stones, and all kinds of precious stones, and marble stones in abundance.

3 And of my own free will I give for the house of my God the gold and silver that I have in excess, besides all that I have prepared for the house of the sanctuary.

 4 Three thousand talents of gold, of the gold of Ophir, and seven thousand talents of refined silver, to overlay the walls of the houses:

 5 Gold for the vessels of gold, and silver for the vessels of silver, and for all the work of the hands of the craftsmen. Who then is willing to fill his hand to offer willingly to the Lord today? 

6 Then the heads of the fathers' houses, and the princes of the tribes of Israel, and the captains over thousands and hundreds, even the captains of the king's work, gave willingly. 

7 And they gave for the service of the house of God five thousand talents of gold, and ten thousand drachmas, and ten thousand talents of silver, and eighteen thousand talents of copper, and a hundred thousand talents of iron. 

8 And those who were found with precious stones gave them to the treasury of the house of the Lord in the hand of Jeiel the Gershonite.

 9 And the people rejoiced at their willing giving; for with a perfect heart they gave willingly to the Lord; and David the king also rejoiced with great joy.

10 Therefore David blessed the Lord in the sight of all the congregation: and David said, Blessed art thou, O Lord, the God of Israel our father, for ever and ever.

11 Thine, O Lord, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in heaven and in earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, and thou art exalted as head above all.

12 And riches and honour come from thee, and thou rulest over all; and in thy hand is power and might; and in thy hand is it to make great and to give strength to all.

13 And now, O our God, we give thee thanks, and we praise thy glorious name.

14 For who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to do such things willingly? For all things come from you, and from your hand we have given you.

15 For we are strangers before you, and pilgrims like all our fathers; our days on the earth are like a shadow, and there is no hope.

16 O Lord our God, all this abundance that we have prepared to build you a house for your holy name comes from your hand, and all is yours.

17 And I know, my God, that you test the hearts, and that you delight in integrity. I also in the integrity of my heart have given all these things willingly; and now I have seen with joy that your people who are present here have given willingly to you.

18 O Lord, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, our fathers, keep this forever in the intent of the thoughts of the heart of your people, and direct their hearts toward you.

19 And give Solomon my son a perfect heart, to keep your commandments, your testimonies, and your statutes; and to do everything, and to build this palace that I have prepared.

20 Then David said to all the assembly, "Now praise the Lord your God." Then all the assembly praised the Lord, the God of their fathers, and bowed down and prostrated themselves before the Lord and before the king.

21 And on the next day they sacrificed sacrifices to the Lord, and offered burnt offerings to the Lord, a thousand bulls, a thousand rams, and a thousand lambs, with their drink offerings, and sacrifices in abundance for all Israel.

22 And they ate and drank that day before the Lord with great joy. And they made Solomon the son of David king the second time, and anointed him to be ruler to the Lord, and Zadok to be priest.

23 So Solomon sat on the throne of the Lord as king in place of David his father, and prospered; and all Israel listened to him.

 24 All the princes and the nobles, even all the sons of King David, submitted themselves to King Solomon. 

25 The Lord magnified Solomon exceedingly in the sight of all Israel, and bestowed upon him a royal majesty such as had not been given to any king in Israel before him.

 26 So David the son of Jesse reigned over all Israel. 

27 The time that he reigned over Israel was forty years: he reigned in Hebron seven years, and in Jerusalem thirty-three years. 

28 He died in a good old age, full of years, riches, and honor; and Solomon his son reigned in his place. 

29 Now the acts of King David, first and last, are they not written in the chronicles of Samuel the seer, and in the chronicles of Nathan the prophet, and in the chronicles of Gad the seer; 

30 Together with all his kingdom and his power, and the times that went over him, and over Israel, and over all the kingdoms of those lands.

1 Disse mais o rei Davi a toda a congregação: Salomão, meu filho, a quem só Deus escolheu, é ainda moço e tenro, e esta obra é grande, porque não é palácio para homem, senão para o Senhor Deus.

2 Eu pois com todas as minhas forças já tenho preparado para a casa de meu Deus ouro para as obras de ouro, e prata para as de prata, e cobre para as de cobre, ferro para as de ferro e madeira para as de madeira, pedras sardônicas, e as de engaste, e pedras de ornato, e obra de embutido, e toda a sorte de pedras preciosas, e pedras marmóreas em abundância,

15 Porque somos estranhos diante de ti, e peregrinos como todos os nossos pais: como a sombra são os nossos dias sobre a terra e não há esperança.

16 Senhor, Deus nosso, toda esta abundância que preparamos, para te edificar uma casa ao teu santo nome, vem da tua mão, e toda é tua.

17 E bem sei eu, Deus meu, que tu provas os corações, e que na sinceridade te agradas: eu também na sinceridade de meu coração voluntariamente dei todas estas coisas: e agora vi com alegria que o teu povo, que se acha aqui, voluntariamente te deu.

18 Senhor, Deus de nossos pais Abraão, Isaque, e Israel, conserva isto para sempre no intento dos pensamentos do coração de teu povo; e encaminha o seu coração para ti.

22 E comeram e beberam naquele dia perante o Senhor, com grande gozo: e segunda vez fizeram rei a Salomão filho de Davi, e o ungiram ao Senhor por guia, e a Zadoque por sacerdote.

23 Assim Salomão se assentou no trono do Senhor, rei, em lugar de Davi seu pai, e prosperou: e todo o Israel lhe deu ouvidos.

24 E todos os príncipes, e os grandes, e até todos os filhos do rei Davi, se submeteram ao rei Salomão.

25 E o Senhor magnificou a Salomão grandissimamente, perante os olhos de todo o Israel: e deu-lhe majestade real, qual antes dele não teve nenhum rei em Israel.

26 Assim Davi, filho de Jessé, reinou sobre todo o Israel.

27 E foram os dias que reinou sobre Israel, quarenta anos: em Hebrom reinou sete anos, em Jerusalém reinou trinta e três.

11 And David gave to Solomon his son the design of the porch with its houses, its treasuries, its upper rooms, its inner chambers, and the place for the mercy seat.

12 And the design of all that he had in his heart, namely, of the courts of the house of the LORD, and of all the chambers round about, for the treasuries of the house of God, and for the treasuries of the holy things;

13 And of the divisions of the priests, and of the Levites, and of all the work of the service of the house of the LORD, and of all the vessels of the service of the house of the LORD.

14 And he gave the gold by weight for all the vessels of every service: and the silver by weight for all the vessels of silver, for all the vessels of every manner of service: 

15 And the weight for the golden candlesticks, and their golden lamps, according to the weight of each candlestick and its lamps; and for the silver candlesticks, according to the weight of the candlestick and its lamps, according to the use of each candlestick.

16 And he gave the gold by weight for the tables of shewbread, for each table; and the silver for the silver tables.

17 And the pure gold for the forks, and for the basins, and for the bowls, and for the golden bowls, by weight for each bowl; and for the silver bowls by weight for each bowl.

18 And for the altar of incense, purified gold by weight; and the gold for the pattern of the chariot, even the cherubim that were to spread out their wings, and to cover the ark of the covenant of the LORD. 

19 “All this,” said David, “they have made known to me in writing by the word of the Lord, even all the work of this plan.” 

20 Then David said to Solomon his son, “Be strong and courageous, and do it. Do not be afraid or dismayed, for the Lord God, my God, will be with you; he will not fail you or forsake you until you have finished all the work for the service of the house of the Lord. 

21 And behold, here are the divisions of the priests and Levites for all the service of the house of God. They are also with you for all the work, volunteers with wisdom of all kinds for all the service, as are all the princes and all the people for all your commandments.

11 E deu Davi a Salomão, seu filho, o risco do alpendre com as suas casarias, e as suas tesourarias, e os seus cenáculos, e as suas recâmaras de dentro, como também a casa do propiciatório.

12 E também o risco de tudo quanto tinha no seu ânimo, a saber: Dos átrios da casa do Senhor, e de todas as câmaras em redor, para os tesouros da casa de Deus, e para os tesouros das coisas sagradas.

13 E das turmas dos sacerdotes, e dos levitas, e de toda obra do ministério da casa do Senhor, e de todos os vasos do ministério da casa do Senhor.

20 E disse Davi a Salomão seu filho: esforça-te e tem bom ânimo, e obra; não temas, nem te apavores; porque o Senhor Deus, meu Deus, há de ser contigo; não te deixará, nem te desamparará, até que acabes toda a obra do serviço da casa do Senhor.

21 E eis que aí tens as turmas dos sacerdotes e dos levitas para todo o ministério da casa de Deus: estão também contigo, para toda a obra, voluntários com sabedoria de toda a espécie para todo o ministério; como também todos os príncipes, e todo o povo, para todos os teus mandamentos.

1 Then David assembled all the princes of Israel in Jerusalem, the princes of the tribes, and the captains of the courses that ministered to the king, and the captains of thousands, and the captains of hundreds, and the rulers of all the substance and possession of the king and his sons, with the eunuchs, and the mighty men, and every mighty man of valor.

2 Then King David stood up and said, "Hear me, my brethren, and my people: I had it in my heart to build a house of rest for the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and for the footstool of our God; and I had prepared to build it.

3 But God said to me, 'You shall not build a house for my name, because you are a man of war, and you have shed much blood.

4 And the Lord, the God of Israel, chose me out of all my father's house to be king over Israel forever; for he chose Judah to be prince, and my father's house out of the house of Judah; and among my father's sons he was pleased to make me king over all Israel.

5 And of all my sons (for the Lord has given me many sons), he chose my son Solomon to sit on the throne of the kingdom of the Lord over Israel.

6 And he said to me, "Your son Solomon will build my house and my courts, for I have chosen him as my son, and I will be his father.

7 And I will establish his kingdom forever, if he continues to follow my commandments and my judgments, as at this day." 8 Now therefore, in the sight of all Israel, the assembly of the Lord, and in the hearing of our God, keep and seek all the commandments of the Lord your God, that you may possess this good land, and leave it for an inheritance to your children after you forever.

9 And you, Solomon, my son, know the God of your father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind. For the Lord searches all hearts and understands all the intents of the thoughts. If you seek him, he will be found of you; but if you forsake him, he will reject you forever.

10 Now therefore, see, for the Lord has chosen you to build a house for the sanctuary; be strong and do the work.

2E pôs-se o rei Davi em pé, e disse: Ouvi-me, irmãos meus, e povo meu: Em meu coração propus eu edificar uma casa de repouso para a arca do concerto do Senhor e para o escabelo dos pés do nosso Deus, e eu tinha feito o preparo para a edificar.

3 Porém Deus me disse: Não edificarás casa ao meu nome, porque és homem de guerra, e derramaste muito sangue.

4 E o Senhor Deus de Israel escolheu-me de toda a casa de meu pai, para que eternamente fosse rei sobre Israel; porque a Judá escolheu por príncipe, e a casa de meu pai na casa de Judá: e entre os filhos de meu pai se agradou de mim para me fazer rei sobre todo o Israel.

9 E tu meu filho Salomão, conhece o Deus de teu pai, e serve-o com um coração perfeito e com uma alma voluntária; porque esquadrilha o Senhor todos os corações, e entende todas as imaginações dos pensamentos: se o buscares, será achado de ti; porém, se o deixares, rejeitar-te-á para sempre.

10 Olha pois agora, porque o Senhor te escolheu para edificares uma casa para o santuário; esforça-te e faze a obra.
