II Kings 14 The Reign of Jeroboam II

 II Kings 14

The Reign of Jeroboam II

23 In the fifteenth year of Amaziah the son of Joash, king of Judah, Jeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel, began to reign in Samaria, and reigned forty-one years.

24 And he did evil in the sight of the Lord; he departed not from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, which he made Israel to sin.

25 And he set the borders of Israel from the entrance of Hamath unto the Sea of the Arabah, according to the word of the Lord, the God of Israel, which he spake by his servant Jonah the son of the prophet Amital, who was of Gath-epher.

26 For the Lord saw that the misery of Israel was very bitter, and that there was no one left, nor any forsaken, nor any helper for Israel.

27 And the Lord had not yet spoken of blotting out the name of Israel from under heaven: but he saved them by the hand of Jeroboam the son of Joash.

28 Now the rest of the acts of Jeroboam, all that he did, and his might, how he fought, and how he recovered Damascus and Hamath, which belonged to Judah, while he was king in Israel, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of Israel?

29 And Jeroboam slept with his fathers, with the kings of Israel: and Zechariah his son reigned in his stead.

II Reis 14 O reinado de Jeroboão II

II Reis 14

II Kings 14 Amaziah Kills His Father's Killers

 II Kings 14

Amaziah Kills His Father's Killers

1 In the second year of Joash the son of Jehoahaz king of Israel, Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah began to reign.

2 He was twenty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Joadan of Jerusalem.

3 And he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, though not like his father David; but he did according to all that Joash his father had done.

4 Only the high places were not taken down, for the people still sacrificed and burned incense on the high places.

5 So it came to pass, when the kingdom was established in his hand, that he killed his servants who had killed the king his father.

6 But the sons of the murderers he did not kill, as it is written in the Book of the Law of Moses, where the Lord commanded, saying, "Fathers shall not be put to death for their children, nor shall children be put to death for their fathers; but each one will be put to death for his own sin.

7 He struck down ten thousand Edomites in the Valley of Salt, and took Selah in battle; and he called its name Joktheel to this day.

8 Then Amaziah sent messengers to Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz, the son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, "Come, let us face each other."

9 But Jehoash king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, "The thistle that is in Lebanon sent to the cedar that is in Lebanon, saying, 'Give your daughter to my son as a wife.' But the wild animals that were in Lebanon trampled the thistle."

10 You have indeed struck down the Edomites, and your heart has lifted you up. Boast about it and stay at home. Why should you meddle in evil, so that you and Judah may fall with you?

11 But Amaziah would not listen. So Jehoash king of Israel and Amaziah king of Judah went up and faced each other at Beth Shemesh, which belongs to Judah.

12 Judah was defeated by Israel, and they fled every man to their tents.

13 Then Jehoash king of Israel took Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Joash, the son of Ahaziah, at Beth Shemesh. He came to Jerusalem and broke down the wall of Jerusalem from the gate of Ephraim to the corner gate, four hundred cubits.

14 He took all the gold and silver and all the vessels that were found in the house of the LORD and in the treasuries of the king's house, as well as the hostages, and returned to Samaria.

15 Now the rest of the acts of Joash, what he did, and his might, and how he fought against Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

16 And Joash slept with his fathers, and was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel: and Jeroboam his son reigned in his stead.

17 And Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah lived after the death of Joash the son of Jehoahaz king of Israel fifteen years.

18 Now the rest of the acts of Amaziah, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

19 And they conspired against him in Jerusalem, and he fled to Lachish: but they sent after him to Lachish, and slew him there. 20 And they brought him on horses, and buried him in Jerusalem with his fathers in the city of David.

21 And all the people of Judah took Azariah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king in place of his father Amaziah.

22 And he built Elath, and restored it to Judah, after the king slept with his fathers.

II Reis 14

The Death of Elisha

20 Elisha died and was buried. Now the Moabite troops invaded the land at the beginning of the year.

21 As they were burying a man, they saw a group of people, and they threw the man into Elisha's tomb. When the man fell into it and touched the bones of Elisha, he revived and stood up on his feet.

22 Hazael king of Aram oppressed Israel all the days of Jehoahaz.

23 But the Lord had mercy on them and had compassion on them, and returned to them because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. He would not destroy them, nor did he drive them out of his sight.

24 Hazael king of Aram died, and Benhadad his son reigned in his place.

25 And Joash the son of Jehoahaz took again from the hand of Ben-hadad the cities, which he had taken from the hand of Jehoahaz his father in war: and Joash smote him three times, and recovered the cities of Israel.

Elisha falls ill and Jehoash comes to him

14 Now Elisha was sick with his illness, and he died. And Jehoash king of Israel went down to him and wept on his face, and said, “My father, my father, the chariots of Israel and its horsemen!

15 And Elisha said to him, “Take a bow and arrows.” And he took a bow and arrows.

16 Then the king of Israel said, “Put your hand on the bow.” And he put his hand on it. And Elisha put his hands on the king’s hands.

17 And he said, “Open the window toward the east.” And he opened it. Then Elisha said, “Shoot.” And he shot, and said, “The arrow of the LORD’s salvation is the arrow of salvation against the Syrians; for you will strike the Syrians at Aphek until you have consumed them.”

18 And he said, “Take the arrows.” And he took them. And he said to the king of Israel, "Strike the ground." And he struck it three times, and it stopped.

19 Then the man of God was very angry with him, and said, "You should have struck it five or six times; then you would have struck the Syrians until you had consumed them; but now you will strike the Syrians only three times."

15 E Eliseu lhe disse: Toma um arco e flechas.

E abriu-a.

E tomou-as. E feriu-a três vezes, e cessou.

II Kings 13 Jehoahaz and Joash, Kings of Israel

 II Kings 13

Jehoahaz and Joash, Kings of Israel

1 In the twenty-third year of Joash the son of Ahaziah king of Judah, Jehoahaz the son of Jehu began to reign over Israel in Samaria, and he reigned seventeen years.

2 And he did evil in the sight of the Lord, for he followed the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin; he did not depart from them.

3 Therefore the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel, and he delivered them into the hand of Hazael king of Aram and into the hand of Benhadad the son of Hazael all those days.

4 But Jehoahaz pleaded before the Lord, and the Lord heard him, for he saw the oppression of Israel, because the king of Aram oppressed them.

5 And the LORD gave Israel a savior, and they came out from under the hand of the Syrians: and the children of Israel dwelt in their tents, as before.

6 (However, they departed not from the sins of the house of Jeroboam, which he made Israel to sin; but walked in them: and the grove also remained in Samaria.)

7 For he left no people to Jehoahaz, save fifty horsemen, and ten chariots, and ten thousand footmen: for the king of Syria had destroyed them, and had ground them to powder.

8 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoahaz, and all that he did, and his might, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

9 And Jehoahaz slept with his fathers, and they buried him in Samaria. And Joash his son reigned in his stead.

10 In the thirty-seventh year of Joash king of Judah, Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz began to reign over Israel in Samaria, and he reigned sixteen years.

11 And he did evil in the sight of the Lord: he departed not from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin, but walked in them.

12 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoash, and all that he did, and his might with which he fought against Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

13 And Jehoash slept with his fathers, and Jeroboam sat on his throne: and Jehoash was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel.

II Reis 13 Joacaz e Joás, reis de Israel

II Reis 13

11 और उन्होंने रूपया तोलकर उसे काम करनेवालोंके हाथ में दे दिया जो यहोवा के भवन के अधिकारी थे; और उन्होंने उसे बढ़इयों और राजमिस्त्रियों को बांट दिया जो भवन की मरम्मत करते थे। भगवान;

II Kings 12 Joash Repairs the Temple

 II Kings 12

Joash Repairs the Temple

1 In the seventh year of Jehu, Joash began to reign, and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Zibiah of Beersheba.

2 And Joash did what was right in the eyes of the Lord all the days that Jehoiada the priest was in charge of him.

3 Only the high places were not removed, because the people still sacrificed and burned incense on the high places.

4 Then Joash said to the priests, "All the money for the holy things that is brought into the house of the Lord, even the money of the one who is counted, the money of each person according to his valuation, and all the money that he brings voluntarily into the house of the Lord.

5 The priests shall receive it, each of his acquaintances; and they shall repair the breaches of the house, according to every breach that is found in it." 6 Now it came to pass in the twenty-third year of King Joash, that the priests had not repaired the breaches of the house.

7 Then King Joash summoned Jehoiada the priest and the other priests, and said to them, "Why do you not repair the breaches of the house? Now therefore take no more money from your acquaintances, but give it for the breaches of the house."

8 So the priests agreed not to take any more money from the people, nor to repair the breaches of the house.

9 But Jehoiada the priest took a chest, and bored a hole in the lid, and set it beside the altar, on the right hand of those who entered the house of the Lord. And the priests who kept the door of the gate put there all the money that was brought into the house of the Lord.

10 So it came to pass, when they saw that there was much money in the chest, that the king's scribe came up with the high priest, and they counted and bagged the money that was found in the house of the Lord.

11 And they weighed out the money, and gave it to the workmen, who had charge of the house of the Lord: and they distributed it to the carpenters and builders, who repaired the house of the Lord;

12 and to the masons and carpenters, and to buy timber and hewn stone to repair the breaches of the house of the Lord, and for all that was given for the house to repair it.

13 But with the money that was brought into the house of the Lord, they made neither silver bowls, nor fleshhooks, nor basins, nor trumpets, nor any vessels of gold, nor vessels of silver for the house of the Lord.

14 For they gave it to those who did the work, and they repaired the house of the Lord with it.

15 Nor did they demand an account of the men into whose hands they gave the money, to give to the workmen, because they worked faithfully.

16 But the money for the trespass offerings and the money for the sin offerings were not brought into the house of the Lord, but were for the priests.

17 Then Hazael king of Syria went up and fought against Gath and captured it. Afterward, Hazael made a show of desecration against Jerusalem.

18 But Joash king of Judah took all the holy things that Jehoshaphat, Joram and Ahaziah, his fathers, the kings of Judah, had dedicated, and all the gold that was found in the treasuries of the house of the Lord and in the king's house, and sent them to Hazael king of Syria; and he departed from Jerusalem.

19 Now the rest of the acts of Joash, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

20 Then his servants rose up and conspired against him, and they struck Joash in the house of Millo, which goes down to Silla.

21 For Josakar the son of Shimeath and Josabad the son of Shomer, his servants, struck him down, and he died. They buried him with his fathers in the city of David. And Amaziah his son reigned in his place.

II Reis 12 Joás manda reparar o templo

 II Reis 12

11 E o dinheiro, depois de pesado, davam nas mãosdos que faziam a obra, que tinham a seu cargo a casa do Senhor: e eles o distribuíam aos carpinteiros, e aos edificadores que reparavam a casa do Senhor;

5 और उस ने उनको आज्ञा दी, कि जो काम तुम्हें करना होगा वह यही है। आप में से एक तिहाई को यह करना होगा। तुम में से जो विश्रामदिन को प्रवेश करेगा, उसका एक तिहाई राजा के भवन की रखवाली करेगा;

II Kings 11 Athaliah Orders the Killing of the Royal Family; Joash Escapes and is Anointed King

 II Kings 11

Athaliah Orders the Killing of the Royal Family; Joash Escapes and is Anointed King

1 Now when Athaliah, the mother of Ahaziah, saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the royal family.

2 But Jehoiabath, the daughter of King Joram, sister of Ahaziah, took Joash the son of Ahaziah and stole him from among the king's sons who were being killed. She put him and his nurse in a bedchamber and hid him from Athaliah, so that he was not killed.

3 And he was hidden with her in the house of the Lord six years, while Athaliah reigned over the land.

4 And in the seventh year Jehoiada sent for the centurions, with the captains and the guard, and brought them into the house of the Lord with him. And he made a covenant with them and swore an oath to them in the house of the Lord, and showed them the king's son.

5 And he commanded them, saying, This is the work that ye shall do. A third of you shall do it. A third of you that come in on the sabbath shall keep the guard of the king's house:

6 And another third shall be at the gate of Sur; and another third at the gate behind the guard: so shall ye keep the guard of this house, putting them all out.

7 And the two parts of you, that is, all that go out on the sabbath, shall keep the guard of the house of the LORD beside the king.

8 And ye shall compass the king about, every man with his weapons in his hand; and whosoever cometh in between the ranks shall slay him: and ye shall be with the king when he goeth out, and when he comeeth in.

9 So the centurions did according to all that Jehoiada the priest had commanded: each took his men, both those that came in on the sabbath, and those that went out on the sabbath, and they came to Jehoiada the priest.

10 Then the priest gave the centurions the spears and shields that had been King David's, which were in the house of the Lord.

11 And the guard stood, each with his weapons in his hand, from the right side of the house to the left side of the house, on the side of the altar and on the side of the house, near the king all around.

12 Then he brought out the king's son, put the crown on him, and gave him the testimony. Then they anointed him and clapped their hands and said, "Long live the king!"

13 And Athaliah heard the voice of the guard and of the people, and went into the house of the Lord to the people.

14 And she looked, and behold, the king was standing by the pillar, as was the custom, and the captains and the trumpeters by the king, and all the people of the land were rejoicing and blowing the trumpets. Then Athaliah tore her clothes and cried out, "Treason! Treason!"

15 But Jehoiada the priest commanded the captains of the hundreds who were in command of the troops, and said to them, “Take her out of the ranks, and kill the next one with the sword.” For the priest had said, “Do not kill her in the house of the Lord.”

16 So they seized her, and she went by the way of the horse entrance to the king’s house, and killed her there.

17 Then Jehoiada made a covenant between the Lord and the king and the people, who were the people of the Lord, and between the king and the people.

18 Then all the people of the land went into the house of Baal and tore it down, and its altars, and smashed its images completely, and they killed Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars. Then the priest appointed officers over the house of the Lord.

19 Then he took the captains of the hundreds, the captains, the guards, and all the people of the land, and they brought them to Egypt. and they brought the king from the house of the Lord, and came by way of the gate of the guard to the king's house, and he sat on the king's throne.

20 And all the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was at rest, after they had killed Athaliah with the sword beside the king's house.

21 Joash was seven years old when they made him king.

II Reis 11 Atália manda matar a família real Joás escapa e é ungido rei

 II Reis 11

Atália manda matar a família real Joás escapa e é ungido rei

12 Então ele tirou o filho do rei, e lhe pôs a coroa, e lhe deu o testemunho; e ungiram, e bateram as mãos, e disseram: Viva o rei!
