42 And a man came from Baal-shalishah, and brought the man of God bread of the firstfruits, twenty loaves of barley, and fresh ears in their husk, and said, Give unto the people, that they may eat.

43 And his servant said, How shall I set this before a hundred men? And he said, Give unto the people, that they may eat: for thus saith the LORD, They shall eat, and there shall be left over.

44 And he set it before them; and they ate, and left over, according to the word of the LORD.

38 Now Elisha returned to Gilgal; and there was a famine in the land, and the sons of the prophets were sitting before him. And he said to his servant, "Set on the great pot and boil some stew of herbs for the sons of the prophets." 

39 Then one went out into the field to gather herbs, and found a wild vine, and gathered from it his coat full of gourds. And he came and cut them up into the pot of stew, for they knew not what they were.

 40 So they took some to eat for the men. And it came to pass, as they were eating of the stew, that they cried out, and said, "Man of God, there is death in the pot!" And they could not eat. 

41 But he said, "Bring some flour, then." And he poured it into the pot and said, "Take some to eat for the people." Then there was no harm in the pot.

8 Now it came to pass one day, that Elisha went to Shunem; and there was a great woman there, and she kept him to eat bread: and it came to pass, that whenever he passed by, he would go there to eat bread.

9 And she said to her husband, Behold, I perceive that this is a holy man of God, which passeth by us continually.

10 Let us make him a little chamber by the wall, and put there for him a bed, and a table, and a chair, and a candle: and it shall be, when he cometh to us, that he will retire thither.

11 And it came to pass one day, that he came thither, and went into the chamber, and lay down there.

12 And he said to his servant Gehazi, Call this Shunammite. And he called her, and she stood before him.

13 For she had said unto him, Say unto her, Behold, thou hast dealt very kindly with us: What shall be done for you? Is there anything to be said for you to the king or to the commander of the army?” She said, “I live among my people.”

14 Then he said, “What then shall be done for her?” Gehazi said, “She has no son, and her husband is old.”

15 So he said, “Call her.” So he called her, and she stood at the door.

16 And he said, “At this set time, according to the time of life, you shall embrace a son.” And she said, “No, my lord, you man of God, do not lie to your servant.”

17 And the woman conceived and bore a son at the set time, according to the time of life that Elisha had told her.

18 And the child grew, and it came to pass one day that he went out to his father, who was with the reapers.

19 And she said to her father, “Woe to my head! Won’t you lie to your servant?” Then she said to a young man, “Carry him to his mother.” 

20 So he took him and carried him to his mother, and he lay on her knees until noon, and then he died. 

21 Then she went up and laid him on the bed of the man of God, and shut the door on him and went out.

 22 Then she called to her husband and said, “Send me one of the young men and one of the donkeys, so that I may run to the man of God and bring him back.” 

23 He said, “Why are you going to him today? It is neither a new moon nor a Sabbath.” She said, “All is well.” 

24 So she saddled the donkey and said to her servant, “Drive on and go; do not stop until I tell you.”

 25 So she went and came to the man of God at Mount Carmel. When the man of God saw her afar off, he said to Gehazi his servant, “Look, there is the Shunammite.”

 26 Now therefore run to meet her, and say to her, Is it well with you? Is it well with your husband? Is it well with your son? And she said, Is it well.

27 And she came to the man of God at the mountain, and took hold of his feet; but Gehazi came near to take her away. But the man of God said, Let her alone; for her soul is grieved with bitterness within her, and the Lord hath hid it from me, and hath not told me.

28 And she said, Did I desire a son of my lord? said I not, Do not deceive me?

29 And he said to Gehazi, Gird up thy loins, and take my staff in thy hand, and go: if thou meet any man, salute him not; and if any man salute thee, answer him not: and lay my staff upon the face of the lad.

30 And the lad's mother said, As the Lord liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. So he arose, and followed her.

 31 Gehazi went on ahead of them and laid his staff on the boy's face, but there was no voice or sense in him. So he went back to meet him and told him, "The boy did not wake up."

 32 When Elisha came to the house, behold, the boy was lying dead on his bed. 

33 So he went in and shut the door on them both and prayed to the Lord. 

34 Then he went up and lay on the boy, and put his mouth on his mouth, his eyes on his eyes, and his hands on his hands. He stretched himself on him, and the boy's flesh became warm. 

35 Then he went back and walked up and down the house, and went up again and stretched himself on him. Then the boy sneezed seven times, and the boy opened his eyes. 

36 Then he called Gehazi and said, "Call this Shunammite." So he called her, and she came to him. And he said, Take thy son.

37 And she came and fell at his feet, and bowed herself to the ground, and took her son, and went out.

12 Então disse ao seu moço Geazi: Chama esta sunamita. E chamando-a ele, ela se pôs diante dele.

13 Porque lhe tinha dito: Dize-lhe: Eis que tu nos tens tratado com todo o desvelo; que se há de fazer por ti? Haverá alguma coisa de que se fale por ti ao rei, ou ao chefe do exército? E dissera ela: Eu habito no meio do meu povo.

14 Então disse ele: Que se há de fazer pois por ela? E Geazi disse: Ora ela não tem filho, e seu marido é velho.

15 Pelo que disse ele: Chama-a. E, chamando-a ele, ela se pôs a porta.

16 E ele disse: A este tempo determinado, segundo o tempo da vida, abraçarás um filho. E disse ela: Não, meu senhor, Homem de Deus, não mintas à tua serva.

17 E concebeu a mulher, e deu à luz um filho, no tal tempo determinado segundo o tempo da vida que Eliseu lhe dissera.

18 E, crescendo o filho, sucedeu que um dia saiu para seu pai, que estava com os segadores.

19 E disse a seu pai: Ai, a minha cabeça! ai, a minha cabeça! Então disse a um moço: Leva-o à sua mãe.

20 E ele o tomou e o levou à sua mãe, e esteve sobre os seus joelhos até o meio dia, e morreu.

21 E subiu ela, e o deitou sobre a cama do homem de Deus; e fechou sobre ele a porta, e saiu.

22 E chamou a seu marido, e disse: Manda-me um dos moços, e uma das jumentas, para que corra ao homem de Deus, e para que volte.

23 E disse ele: Por que vais a ele hoje? não é lua nova nem sábado. E ela disse: Tudo vai bem.

24 Então albardou a jumenta, e disse ao seu moço: Guia e anda, e não te detenhas no caminhar, senão quando eu to disser.

25 Partiu ela pois e veio ao homem de Deus, ao monte Carmelo: e sucedeu que, vendo-a o homem de Deus de longe, disse a Geazi, seu moço: Eis aí a sunamita.

26 Agora pois corre-lhe ao encontro e dize-lhe: Vai bem contigo? Vai bem com teu marido? Vai bem com o teu filho? E ela disse: Vai bem.

27 Chegando ela pois ao homem de Deus, ao monte, pegou nos seus pés; mas chegou Geazi para a retirar: disse porém o homem de Deus: Deixa-a, porque a sua alma nela está triste de amargura, e o Senhor mo encobriu, e não mo manifestou.

28 E disse ela: Pedi eu a meu senhor algum filho? Não disse eu: Não me enganes?

29 E ele disse a Geazi: cingi os teus lombos, e toma o meu bordão na tua mão, e vai; se encontrares alguém, não o saúdes, e se alguém te saudar, não lhes respondas: e põe o meu bordão sobre o rosto do menino.

30 Porém disse a mãe do menino: Vive o Senhor, e vive a tua alma, que não te hei de deixar. Então ele se levantou, e a seguiu.

31 E Geazi passou adiante deles, e pôs o bordão sobre o rosto do menino; porém não havia nele voz nem sentido: e voltou a encontrar-se com ele, e lhe trouxe aviso, dizendo: Não despertou o menino.

32 E, chegando Eliseu áquela casa, eis que o menino jazia morto sobre a sua cama.

33 Então entrou ele, e fechou a porta sobre eles ambos, e orou ao Senhor.

34 E subiu, e deitou-se sobre o menino, e, pondo a sua boca sobre a boca dele, e os seus olhos sobre os olhos dele, e as suas mãos sobre as mãos dele, se estendeu sobre ele: e a carne do menino aqueceu.

35 Depois voltou, e passeou naquela casa duma parte para a outra, e tornou a subir, e se estendeu sobre ele: então o menino espirrou sete vezes, e o menino abriu os olhos.

36 Então chamou a Geazi, e disse: Chama essa sunamita. E chamou-a, e veio a ele. E disse ele: Toma o teu filho.

37 E veio ela, e se prostrou a seus pés, e se inclinou à terra; e tomou o seu filho e saiu.

1 Now a woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets cried out to Elisha, saying, "Your servant my husband is dead; and you know that your servant feared the Lord; and the creditor has come to take my two sons to be servants."

2 And Elisha said to her, "What shall I do for you? Tell me what you have in the house." And she said, "Your servant has nothing in the house except a jar of oil."

3 And he said, "Go, borrow for yourself vessels of all your neighbors, empty vessels, not a few.

4 Then go in, and shut the door upon you and upon your sons, and pour oil into all the vessels, and set aside the full ones by themselves."

5 So she went away from him, and shut the door upon herself and upon her sons; and they brought her the vessels, and she filled them.

6 And it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said to her son, Bring me yet another vessel. And he said unto her, There is no vessel left. And the oil stopped.

7 And she came and told the man of God: and he said, Go, sell the oil, and pay thy debt; and thou and thy sons may live of the rest.

3 Então disse ele: Vai, pede para ti vasos emprestados a todos os teus vizinhos, vasos vazios, não poucos.

4 Então entra, e fecha a porta sobre ti, e sobre teus filhos, e deita o azeite em todos aqueles vasos, e põe à parte o que estiver cheio.

5 Partiu pois dele, e fechou a porta sobre si e sobre seus filhos; e eles lhe traziam os vasos, e ela os enchia.

6 E sucedeu que, cheios que foram os vasos, disse a seu filho: Traze-me ainda um vaso. Porém ele lhe disse: Não há mais vaso nenhum. Então o azeite parou.

7 Então veio ela, e o fez saber ao homem de Deus; e disse ele: Vai, vende o azeite, e paga a tua dívida; e tu e teus filhos vivei do resto.

1 Now Joram the son of Ahab began to reign over Israel in Samaria in the eighteenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and reigned twelve years.

2 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord, but not like his father or his mother: for he removed the image of Baal that his father had made.

3 Yet he clung to the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who had made Israel to sin; he departed not from them.

4 Now Mesha the king of Moab was a hireling of cattle, and he paid the king of Israel a hundred thousand lambs and a hundred thousand rams with their wool.

5 And it came to pass, when Ahab died, that the king of Moab rebelled against the king of Israel.

6 So Joram went out of Samaria at that time, and mustered all Israel.

7 Then he went and sent to Jehoshaphat king of Judah, saying, “The king of Moab has rebelled against me; will you go with me to war against Moab?” He said, “I will go up, and I will be as you are, my people as your people, and my horses as your horses.” 

8 He said, “Which way shall we go up?” He said, “By the way of the wilderness of Edom.” 

9 So the king of Israel, the king of Judah, and the king of Edom set out, and they went around for seven days, and there was no water for the army and the livestock that followed them. 

10 Then the king of Israel said, “Oh, that the LORD has called these three kings to give them into the hands of Moab!” 

11 And Jehoshaphat said, “Is there not a prophet of the LORD here, that we may inquire of the LORD by him?” Then one of the servants of the king of Israel answered, “Here is Elisha the son of Shaphat, who poured water on Elijah’s hands.”

12 And Jehoshaphat said, “The word of the Lord is with him.” Then the king of Israel, along with Jehoshaphat and the king of Edom, went down to him.

13 But Elisha said to the king of Israel, “What have I to do with you? Go to the prophets of your father and the prophets of your mother.” But the king of Israel said to him, “No, for the Lord has called these three kings to deliver them into the hands of Moab.”

14 And Elisha said, “As the Lord of hosts lives, in whose presence I stand, if I did not respect the presence of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, I would not look at you or see you.

15 Now therefore bring me a minstrel.” And it came to pass, as the minstrel played, that the hand of the Lord came upon him. 

16 And he said, Thus saith the LORD, Make this valley full of ditches: 

17 For thus saith the LORD, Ye shall see no wind, neither shall ye see rain: yet this valley shall be filled with water, that ye, and your cattle, and your beasts, shall drink. 

18 And yet this is too little in the sight of the LORD: he will also deliver the Moabites into your hand. 

19 And ye shall smite every fenced city, and every choice city; and ye shall cut down every good tree, and stop up all the springs of water, and spoil all the good fields with stones. 

20 And it came to pass in the morning, when the meat offering was offered, that, behold, waters came by the way of Edom, and the land was filled with water.

 21 And when all the Moabites heard that the kings had come up to fight against them, they summoned all that were girded with the girdle, and upward, and they stood at the border. 

22 And they rose early in the morning, and the sun rose upon the waters, and the Moabites saw the waters before them red as blood.

23 And they said, This is blood; surely kings have slain one another with the sword, and have killed one another; now therefore to the prey, O Moabites!

24 But when they came to the camp of Israel, the Israelites rose up and smote the Moabites, and they fled before them; and they smote them in their own land, and smote the Moabites there also.

25 And they razed the cities, and every man cast his stone into every good field, and filled them up; and they stopped up all the springs of water, and cut down all the good trees, until only at Kir-hareseth they left the stones remaining; but the slingers surrounded it and smote it. 

26 But when the king of Moab saw that the battle was too great for him, he took with him seven hundred men who drew swords to break through to the king of Edom, but they could not.

27 Then he took his eldest son, who was to have succeeded him as king, and offered him as a burnt offering on the wall. And there was great wrath in Israel; so they withdrew from him and returned to their own land.

 18 And they returned to him, while he tarried at Jericho: and he said unto them, Did I not tell you that ye should not go? 

19 And the men of the city said unto Elisha, Behold, the habitation of this city is good, as my master seeth; but the waters are bad, and the land is barren. 

20 And he said, Bring me a new flask, and put salt in it. And they brought it unto him. 

21 Then he went out to the spring of water, and cast salt therein: and he said, “Thus says the Lord: I will heal these waters; there will be no more death or barrenness in them.” 

22 So the waters have been healed to this day, according to the word that Elisha had spoken.

 23 Then he went up from there to Bethel. And as he was going up the road, some young men came out of the city and mocked him, saying to him, “Go up, bald man! Go up, bald man!” 

24 Then he turned back and saw them, and cursed them in the name of the Lord. Then two she-bears came out of the wood and tore forty-two of the little ones to pieces. 

25 Then he went from there to Mount Carmel, and from there he returned to Samaria.

Elijah is taken up to heaven in a chariot of fire

1 Now it came to pass, when the Lord was about to take up Elijah by a whirlwind to heaven, that Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal.

2 And Elijah said to Elisha, "Stay here, for the Lord has sent me to Bethel." But Elisha said, "As the Lord lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you." So they went to Bethel.

3 Then the sons of the prophets who were at Bethel came to Elisha and said to him, "Do you know that the Lord will take your master from over you today?" And he said, "I know it also; hold your peace."

4 And Elijah said to him, "Stay here, Elisha, for the Lord has sent me to Jericho." But he said, "As the Lord lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you." So they came to Jericho.

5 Then the sons of the prophets who were at Jericho came to Elisha and said to him, “Do you know that the Lord will take your master from over you today?” He said, “I know it too; hold your peace.”

 6 Elijah said, “Stay here, for the Lord has sent me to the Jordan.” But he said, “As the Lord lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you.” So they both went together. 

7 Fifty men of the sons of the prophets went and stood opposite; they both stood by the Jordan.

 8 Then Elijah took his mantle, folded it, and struck the waters, and they divided hither and thither, and they both went over on dry ground. 

9 When they had crossed over, Elijah said to Elisha, “Ask what I shall do for you before I am taken from you.” And Elisha said, “Please let a double portion of your spirit be upon me.”

 10 And he said, Thou hast asked a hard thing: if thou see me when I am taken from thee, it will be done for thee; but if not, it shall not be done.

11 And it came to pass, as they went on and talked, that, behold, a chariot of fire and horses of fire separated the two of them; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.

Elias é elevado ao céu num carro de fogo

1 Sucedeu pois que, havendo o Senhor de elevar a Elias num redemoinho ao céu, Elias partiu com Eliseu de Gilgal.

2 E disse Elias a Eliseu: Fica-te aqui, porque o Senhor me enviou a Betel. Porém Eliseu disse: Vive o Senhor, e vive a tua alma, que te não deixarei. E assim foram a Betel.

3 Então os filhos dos profetas que estavam em Betel saíram a Eliseu, e lh disseram: Sabes que o Senhor hoje tomará o teu senhor por de cima da tua cabeça? E ele disse: Também eu bem o sei; calai-vos.

4 E Elias lhe disse: Eliseu, fica-teaqui, porque o Senhor me enviou a Jericó. Porém ele disse: Vive o Senhor, e vive a tua alma, que te não deixarei. E assim vieram a Jericó.

5 Então os filhos dos profetas que estavam em Jericó se chegaram a Eliseu, e lhe disseram: Sabes que o Senhor hoje tomará o teu senhor por cima da tua cabeça? E ele disse: Também eu bem o sei; calai-vos.

6 E Elias disse: Fica-te aqui, porque o Senhor me enviou ao Jordão. Mas ele disse: Vive o Senhor, e vive a tua alma, que te não deixarei. E assim ambos foram juntos.

7 E foram cinqüenta homens dos filhos dos profetas, e de longe pararam defronte: e eles ambos pararam junto ao Jordão.

8 Então Elias tomou a sua capa, e a dobrou, e feriu as águas, as quais se dividiram para as duas bandas: e passaram ambos em seco.

9 Sucedeu pois que, havendo eles passado, Elias disse a Eliseu: Pede-me o que queres que te faça, antes que seja tomado de ti. E disse Eliseu: Peço-te que haja porção dobrada de teu espírito sobre mim.

10 E disse: Coisa dura pediste: se me vires quando for tomado de ti, assim te fará, porém, se não, não se fará.

11 E sucedeu que, indo eles andando e falando, eis que um carro de fogo, com cavalos de fogo, os separou um do outro: e Elias subiu ao céu num redemoinho.
