II Samuel 19 David returns to Jerusalem

 II Samuel 19

David returns to Jerusalem

11 Then king David sent to Zadok and Abiathar, priests, saying, Speak to the elders of Judah, saying, Why should you be the last to bring the king back to his house? (For the words of all Israel reached the king, even to his house.).

12 Ye are my brethren, ye are my bones and my flesh: why then should ye be the last to bring back the king?

13 And to Amasa ye shall say, Art thou not my bone and my flesh? So may God do to me, and more, if you are not captain of the camp before me forever instead of Joab.

14 So he moved the heart of all the men of Judah like one man: and they sent to the king, saying, Return thou, and all thy servants.

15 Then the king returned, and came to Jordan; and Judah came from Gilgal to meet the king on the other side of Jordan.

16 And Shimei the son of Gera, the son of Jemini, who was from Bahurim, hurried down and went down with the men of Judah to meet King David.

17 And with him a thousand men of Benjamin, and Ziba the servant of the house of Saul, and his fifteen sons, and his twenty servants with him; and they promptly crossed over Jordan before the king.

18 And when the boat passed by to bring the king's house across and to do what seemed good in his eyes, then Shimei the son of Gera prostrated himself before the king as he crossed the Jordan.

19 And the king said, Let not my lord charge me with my guilt, and remember not what thy servant did so wickedly, in the day that my lord the king went out of Jerusalem; don't keep the king that in your heart.

20 For thy servant indeed confesses that I have sinned: yet, behold, I am the first of all the house of Joseph to go down to meet my lord the king.

21 Then Abishai the son of Zeruiah answered and said, Shall not Shimei die for this, having cursed the Lord's anointed?

22 But David said, What have I to do with you, sons of Zeruiah, that you are adversaries against me today? Would anyone die today in Israel? Why do I not know that today I have been made king over Israel?

23 And the king said to Shimei, Thou shalt not die. And the king swore to him.

II Samuel 19 Davi volta para Jerusalém

II Samuel 19

23 E disse o rei a Simei: Não morrerás. E o rei lho jurou.

5 तब योआब राजभवन में जाकर कहने लगा, तू ने आज के दिन अपके सब कर्मचारियोंका मुंह काला किया है, जिन्होंने आज के दिन तेरा, और तेरे बेटे-बेटियोंका, और तेरी स्त्रियोंका प्राण बचाया है। तुम्हारी रखेलियों का जीवन;

II Samuel 19

 II Samuel 19

1 And they said unto Joab, Behold, the king goeth weeping, and mourneth for Absalom.

2 Then the victory turned that very day into grief for all the people: for that very day the people had heard it said, The king is grieved because of his son.

3 And that same day the people crept into the city, as people flee from the battle in shame.

4 So the king had his face covered; and the king cried with a loud voice, Absalom my son, Absalom my son, my son!

5 Then Joab went in to the king's house, and said, "Today you have shamed the faces of all your servants, who have saved your life this day, and the lives of your sons and daughters, and the lives of your wives, and the life of your concubines;

6 Loving you that hate you, and hating those that love you: because you make it known today that captains and servants are worthless to you: because I understand today that if Absalom lived, and we all died today, then it would seem good in your eyes.

7 Now therefore, arise, go out, and speak according to the heart of your servants: for I swear to you by the Lord, if you do not go out, not one man will remain with you tonight; and this will be greater evil to you than all the evil that has befallen you from your youth until now.

8 Then the king arose, and sat in the gate; and they told all the people, saying, Behold, the king sitteth in the gate. Then all the people came to present themselves before the king; but Israel fled every man to his tents.

9 And all the people, in all the tribes of Israel, were quarreling among themselves, saying, The king delivered us out of the hand of our enemies, and he delivered us out of the hand of the Philistines; and now he fled from the land because of Absalom.

10 And Absalom, whom we anointed over us, is dead in the battle: now therefore why are you silent, and do not bring back the king?

II Samuel 19

II Samuel 19

4 Estava pois o rei com o rosto coberto; e o rei gritava à alta voz: Meu filho Absalão, Absalão meu filho, meu filho!

5 Então entrou Joabe ao rei em casa, e disse: Hoje envergonhaste as caras de todos os teus servos, que livraram hoje a tua vida, e a vida de teus filhos, e de tuas filhas, e a vida de tuas mulheres, e a vida de tuas concubinas;

II Samuel 18 David, hearing of Absalom's death, weeps bitterly

 II Samuel 18

David, hearing of Absalom's death, weeps bitterly

19 Then said Ahimaaz, son of Zadok, Let me run, and I will tell the king that the Lord has avenged him of the hand of his enemies.

20 But Joab said unto him, Thou shalt not be a bearer of good news today, but another day thou shalt bring it; but today thou shalt not break the news, because the king's son is dead.

21 And Joab said to Cushi, Go thou, and tell the king what thou hast seen. And Cushi bowed down to Joab, and ran.

22 And Ahimaaz the son of Zadok went on and said to Joab, Whatever it may be, let me also run after Cushi. And Joab said, Why would you run now, my son, since you have no suitable message?

23 Whatever it is, Ahimaaz said, I will run. And Joab said to him, Run. And Ahimaaz ran by the way of the plain, and passed to Cushi.

24 And David was sitting between the two gates; and the watchman went up to the terrace of the gate by the wall: and he lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, a man was running alone.

25 The watchman therefore cried out, and said to the king, If he come alone, there is news in his mouth. And he was walking and coming.

26 Then the watchman saw another man running, and the watchman called to the gatekeeper, and said, Behold, another man is running alone. Then the king said, This man also brings news.

27 Said more the watchman: I see the running of the first, which seems to be the running of Ahimaaz, son of Zadok. Then the king said, This is a good man, and you will come with good news.

28 Then Ahimaaz cried, and said to the king, Peace. And he bowed down to the king with his face to the ground, and said, Blessed be the Lord, who has delivered up the men who raised their hand against my lord the king.

29 Then said the king, Is it well with the young man, with Absalom? And Ahimaaz said, I saw a great uproar, when Joab sent the king's servant, and me your servant; but I don't know what it was.

30 And the king said, Turn, and stand here. And he turned around, and stopped.

31 And, behold, Cushi came: and Cushi said, My lord the king shall be told that the LORD hath avenged thee this day of the hand of all them that rose up against thee.

32 Then said the king to Cushi, Is it well with the young man, with Absalom? And Cushi said, May the enemies of my lord the king be like that young man, and all who rose up against thee for harm.

33 Then the king was troubled, and he went up to the room that was above the door, and wept; and walking, he said thus: My son Absalom, my son, my son, Absalom! I wish I had died for you, Absalom, my son, my son!

23 Seja o que for, disse Aimaás, correrei.

II Samuel 18 Absalom is suspended from a tree and Joab kills him

 II Samuel 18

Absalom is suspended from a tree and Joab kills him

9 And Absalom met with the servants of David; and Absalom was riding on a mule; and; As the mule entered under the thick branches of a great oak, his head caught on the oak, and it hung between heaven and earth: and the mule, who was under him, passed on.

10 When a man saw, he told Joab, and said, Behold, I saw Absalom hanging from an oak.

11 Then Joab said to the man who had told him, "Since you saw him, why didn't you smite him right there on the ground?" And I would have to give you ten pieces of silver and a belt.

12 But the man said to Joab, Even if I could weigh a thousand pieces of silver in my hand, I would not stretch out my hand against the king's son, for we have heard that the king commanded you, and Abishai, and Ittai, saying, Take heed, every one of you, from touching the young man, Absalom.

13 Even if I spoke a lie at the risk of my life, I would not hide anything from the king; and you yourself would oppose.

14 Then said Joab, I will not tarry thus with thee here. And he took three darts, and pierced Absalom's heart with them, while he was yet alive in the midst of the oak.

15 And ten young men, bearing Joab's weapons, surrounded him. And they smote Absalom and slew him.

16 Then Joab blew the horn, and the people returned from pursuing Israel, for Joab held back the people.

17 And they took Absalom, and cast him into the forest, into a great pit, and heaved a very great heap of stones upon him: and all Israel fled, every man to his tent.

18 Now Absalom, when he was yet alive, had taken and set up for himself a pillar, which is in the king's dale, for he said, I have no son to keep my name in remembrance. And he called that column by its own name; therefore it is called the Pillar of Absalom to this day.

14 Então disse Joabe: Não me demorarei assim contigo aqui.

E feriram a Absalão e o mataram.

II Samuel 18

 II Samuel 18

1 And David numbered the people that he had with him, and set captains of a hundred over them.

2 And David sent the people, one third under the hand of Joab, and another third under the hand of Abishai the son of Zeruiah, Joab's brother, and another third under the hand of Ittai the Gittite; and the king said unto the people, I also will go out with you together.

3 But the people said, Thou shalt not go out; and even half of us die, they will not take heart in us, for even as we are, you will gather ten thousand: it would be better for you to serve us out of the city.

4 Then David said to them, What seems good in your eyes, I will do. And the king stood on the side of the gate, and all the people came out in hundreds and thousands.

5 And the king commanded Joab, and Abishai, and Ittai, saying, Deal kindly with the young man, Absalom, for my sake. And all the people heard when the king commanded all the captains concerning Absalom.

6 So the people went out into the field to meet Israel, and battle broke out in the forest of Ephraim.

7 And there the people of Israel were smitten before the servants of David: and that same day there was a great rout there of twenty thousand.

8 For there the battle extended over the face of all that land; and the people consumed the forest more than the sword consumed that day.

II Samuel 18

II Samuel 18

The victory of David's army over Absalom's

27 And it came to pass, when David came to Mahanaim, that Shobi the son of Nahash from Rabbah of the children of Ammon, and Machir the son of Ammiel from Lodebar, and Barzillai the Gileadite from Rogelim,

28 They took beds, and basins, and earthen vessels, and wheat, and barley, and flour, and roasted corn, and broad beans, and lentils, also roasted,

29 And honey, and butter, and sheep, and cheese of cows, and they brought them to David, and to the people that were with him, to eat: for they said, This people in the wilderness is famished, and weary, and thirsty.

17 योनातान और अहीमास रोगेल के सोते के पास थे;

II Samuel 17

 II Samuel 17

1 And Achitofel said to Absalom, Let me choose twelve thousand men, and I will arise and follow after David this night.

2 And I will go upon him, for he is weary and weak in my hands: and I will make him afraid, and all the people that are with him shall flee; and then I will smite the king alone.

3 And I will bring back to thee all the people: for the man whom thou seekest is as it were become all; then all the people will be at peace.

4 And the word seemed good in the eyes of Absalom, and in the eyes of all the elders of Israel.

5 But Absalom said, Call now also Hushai the Archite: and let us hear also what he shall say.

6 And when Hushai came to Absalom, Absalom spake unto him, saying, Thus spake Ahitophel: shall we do according to his word?

If not, you speak.

7 Then said Hushai to Absalom, The counsel which Achitofel this time counseled is not good.

8 And Hushai said, Thou knowest thy father, and his men, that they are valiant, and that they are in bitterness of spirit, like a bear in the field, stolen from the dogs: thy father also is a man of war, and will not pass to night with the people.

9 Behold, he is now hidden in some pit, or in some other place: and it shall come to pass that some among them fall at the beginning, every one that heareth then shall say, There has been defeat in the people that followed Absalom.

10 Then even the mighty man, whose heart is like the heart of a lion, shall surely faint; for all Israel knoweth that thy father is mighty, and mighty men that are with him.

11 But I advise that all Israel from Dan to Beersheba be gathered to you with all haste, like the sand of the sea in multitude, and that you go to battle in person.

12 Then we will go to him, wherever he may be found, and easily come upon him, as the dew falls on the earth; and not one will remain of him and of all the men who are with him.

13 And if he withdraws to any city, all Israel will bring ropes to that city, and we will drag it to the brook, until not a single stone can be found there.

14 Then said Absalom and all the men of Israel, Better is the counsel of Hushai the Archite than the counsel of Achitofel (but thus the LORD had commanded, to overthrow the good counsel of Achitofel, that the LORD might bring evil upon Absalom).

15 And Hushai said to Zadok and Abiathar the priests, Thus and thus did Achitofel counsel Absalom and the elders of Israel; but so and so I advised.

16 Now therefore, send quickly, and tell David, saying, Do not pass over the desert plains tonight, but pass quickly to the other side, that the king and all the people that are with him may not be devoured.

17 Now Jonathan and Ahimaaz were at the well of Rogel: and there was a maid, and told him, and they went, and told king David, because they could not be seen entering the city.

18 But a young man saw them, and told Absalom; but both of them immediately departed in haste, and entered a man's house at Bahurim, who had a well in his courtyard, and thither they went down.

19 And the woman took the cover, and stretched it over the well's mouth, and sprinkled husked grain over it: so nothing was known.

20 When Absalom's servants came to the woman in the house, they said, "Where are Ahimaaz and Jonathan?" And the woman said unto them, They are passed over the ford of the waters. And having sought them, and not finding them, they returned to Jerusalem.

21 And it came to pass, after they departed, that they came out of the well, and went, and told David, Arise, and pass quickly over the waters: for thus hath Achitofel counseled against you.

22 Then David and all the people that were with him arose, and they crossed the Jordan: and by the morning light there was not yet one left who did not cross the Jordan.

23 And when Achitofel saw that his counsel had not been followed, he saddled his ass, and arose, and went to his house, and to his city, and set his house in order, and hanged himself: and he died, and was buried in his father's grave.

24 EE David came to Mahanaim; and Absalom crossed Jordan, he and all the men of Israel with him.

25 And Absalom appointed Amasa in place of Joab over the camp: and Amasa was the son of a man whose name was Jethra the Israelite, who went in to Abigail the daughter of Nahash, the sister of Zeruiah, Joab's mother.

26 So Israel and Absalom encamped in the land of Gilead.

II Samuel 17

II Samuel 17
