The Book of the Prophet Jeremiah 30
God promises to bring His people back from captivity
The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying:
Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: Write in a book all the words that I have spoken to you:
For behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will restore the fortunes of my people Israel and Judah, says the Lord; and I will bring them back to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they shall possess it.
And these are the words that the Lord spoke concerning Israel and Judah.
For thus says the Lord: We have heard a voice of trembling, of fear, but not of peace.
Ask now and see if a man is in labor pains. Why then do I see every man with his hands on his loins like a woman in labor? And why have all faces turned pale?
Alas! For that day is so great that there has never been another like it! And it is a time of distress for Jacob; but he shall be delivered out of it.
For it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord of hosts, that I will break his yoke from off thy neck, and will burst thy bonds; and strangers shall no more make them slaves:
But they shall serve the Lord their God, and David their king, whom I will raise up unto them.
Fear not, O Jacob my servant, saith the Lord; neither be dismayed, O Israel: for, behold, I will save thee from afar, and thy seed from the land of their captivity: Jacob shall return, and shall rest, and shall be at ease, and none shall make him afraid.
For I am with thee, saith the Lord, to save thee: for I will make an end of all the nations among whom I have scattered thee: but I will not make an end of thee; but I will chasten thee in measure, and will by no means leave thee unpunished.
For thus says the Lord: Your injury is mortal; your wound is grievous.
There is no one to plead your cause that it may be bound up; you have no remedies that can heal.
All your lovers have forgotten you, and they do not seek you; for I have struck you with the wound of an enemy, and with the punishment of a cruel man, because of the greatness of your wickedness and the multitude of your sins.
Why do you cry out because of your injury? Your pain is mortal. Because of the greatness of your wickedness and the multitude of your sins, I have done these things.
But also all who devour you shall be devoured; and all your adversaries shall go, all of them into captivity; and those who plunder you shall be plundered, and all who despoil you I will give over to plunder.
For I will restore health to you, and I will heal your wounds, says the Lord; For they call you the outcast, saying, “It is Zion,” for no one asks anymore.
Thus says the Lord: “Behold, I will restore the fortunes of Jacob’s tents, and have compassion on his dwellings; and the city shall be rebuilt upon its heap, and the palace shall stand as before.
And out of them shall come praise and the voice of rejoicing; and I will multiply them, and they shall not be consumed.
And their children shall be as in former times, and their congregation shall be established before my face; and I will punish all their oppressors.
And their prince shall be of them; and their ruler shall come from among them, and I will cause him to draw near, and he shall approach me; for who is he that has endeavored to approach me?” says the Lord.
And you shall be my people, and I will be your God.
Behold, the storm of the Lord, his indignation, has gone forth, a sweeping storm; it will fall cruelly upon the head of the wicked.
The fierce anger of the Lord will not turn back until he has executed, and until he has accomplished the purposes of his heart; in the latter days you will understand this.
