The Book of the Prophet Jeremiah 49
Prophecy against the Ammonites
1 Against the Ammonites. Thus says the Lord: Does Israel have no children, nor heirs? Why then has Malcam inherited Gad, and his people dwelt in its cities?
2 Therefore, behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will cause the Ammonites to hear a war cry in Rabbah, and it shall become a heap of ruins, and the places of its jurisdiction shall be burned with fire; and Israel shall inherit to those who inherited it, says the Lord.
3 Wail, O Heshbon, for Ai is destroyed; cry out, O daughters of Rabbah, put on sackcloth, lament, and go around in the hedges; for Malcam shall go into captivity, his priests and his princes together. 4 Why do you boast in the valleys, your lush valleys, O rebellious daughter, who trust in your treasures, saying, “Who will come against me?”
5 Behold, I will bring terror upon you, declares the Lord God of hosts, from all those who are around you; and you will be thrown out, each one straight ahead, and no one will gather up the strays.
6 But after this I will restore the fortunes of the Ammonites, declares the Lord.
