I Kings 8 Solomon prays to God

 I Kings 8

Solomon prays to God

And Solomon stood before the altar of the LORD, in front of all the congregation of Israel: and he stretched out his hands towards heaven,
And he said, O Lord God of Israel, there is no God like you, in heaven above or on earth beneath, who keep covenant and kindness to your servants who walk before you with all their heart.
Which thou hast done with thy servant David my father that which thou hast said unto him: for thou hast spoken it with thy mouth, and with thy hand hast done it, as it is this day.
Now therefore, the Lord God of Israel, do to your servant David my father that which you spoke to him, saying, There shall not fail you a successor before me to sit on the throne of Israel: only that your sons keep his way , to walk before me as you walked before me.
Now also, O God of Israel, may your word be fulfilled, which you spoke to your servant David my father.
But will God really dwell on earth? Behold, the heavens, and the heaven of heavens, could not contain you, how much less this house that I have built.
Turn therefore to the prayer of thy servant, and to his supplication, O Lord my God, that thou mayest hear the cry and prayer which thy servant prayeth before thee this day.
That your eyes may be open night and day on this house, on this place, of which you said, My name shall be there; to hear the prayer that your servant prays in this place.
Hear therefore the supplication of thy servant, and of thy people Israel, when they pray in this place; hear thou also in thy dwelling place in heaven; hear also, and forgive.
If anyone sins against your neighbor, and they put an oath upon him to swear by an oath, and the oath comes before your altar in this house,
Then hear thou in heaven, and work, and judge thy servants, condemning the unrighteous, putting his way on his own head, and justifying the righteous, dealing him according to his righteousness.
When your people Israel are smitten before the enemy because they have sinned against you, and they turn to you, and confess your name, and pray and make supplication to you in this house,
Then hear thou in heaven, and forgive the sin of thy people Israel, and bring them back to the land which thou hast given to their fathers.
When the heavens are shut up, and there is no rain, because they have sinned against you, and they pray in this place, and confess your name, and turn from their sins, because you have afflicted them,
Then hear thou in heaven, and forgive the sin of thy servants and of thy people Israel, teaching them the good way that they should walk, and send rain upon thy land, which thou hast given to thy people for an inheritance.
When there is famine in the land, when there is pestilence, when corn is burning, blight, locusts, and caterpillars, when your enemy besieges you in the land of your gates, or there is any plague or disease,
Every prayer, every supplication, that any man of all your people Israel shall make, each one knowing the wound of his heart, and stretching out his hands toward this house,
Then hear thou in heaven, thy dwelling place, and forgive, and do, and give to every man according to all his ways, and as thou seest his heart: for thou alone knowest the heart of all the children of men.
That they may fear you all the days that they live in the land which you gave to our fathers.
And hear also the stranger, who is not of your people Israel, but comes from a far country, for your name's sake.
(For they will hear of your great name, and of your mighty hand, and of your outstretched arm), and come and pray to this house,
Hear thou in heaven, thy dwelling place, and do according to all that the stranger calleth unto thee, that all the peoples of the earth may know thy name, and fear thee as thy people Israel, and may know that your name is invoked over this house that I have built.
When thy people go out to war against their enemy, by the way thou shalt send them, and they pray unto the LORD, towards the side of this city, which thou hast chosen, and this house, which I have built for thy name.
Then hear in heaven their prayer and their supplication, and avenge them.
When they sin against you (for there is no man who does not sin), and you are angry with them, and deliver them into the hand of the enemy, so that those who captured them may carry them captive into the land of the enemy, whether far or near ;
And in the land where they are carried away captive, they shall come to their senses, and be converted, and in the land of their captivity they shall supplicate thee, saying, We have sinned, and done wickedly, and committed iniquity;
And they will turn to you with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their enemies who carried them captive, and pray to you for the band of their land which you gave to their fathers, for this city which you have chosen , and for this house which I have built for your name;
Then hear in heaven, your dwelling place, their prayer and their supplication, and do them justice;
And forgive thy people that have sinned against thee, all their trespasses wherewith they have trespassed against thee; r show them mercy before those holding them captive, that they may have compassion.

For they are your people and your heritage, which you brought out of the land of Egypt, out of the midst of the iron furnace;
That thine eyes may be open to the supplication of thy people Israel, that thou mayest hear them in all that they cry to thee.
For thou hast chosen them for thine inheritance out of all the peoples of the earth, as thou hast spoken by the hand of Moses thy servant, when thou broughtest our fathers out of Egypt, O Lord Jehovah.
