Samuel 17
War between the Israelites and the Philistines
And the Philistines gathered their stingrays for war and assembled at Socó, which is in Judah, and camped between Socó and Azeca, at the end of Damim.
But Saul and the men of Israel came together and camped in the valley of the oak, and ordered the battle against the Philistines.
And the Philistines were on one side of the band beyond, and the Israelites were on the other side of the band there; and the valley was between them.
Then a warrior man came out of the camp of the Philistines, whose name was Goliath of Gath, who was six cubits tall and a foot tall.
he wore a bronze helmet on his head, and wore a scale breastplate; and it was the weight of the harness of five thousand bronze cycles.
And he had bronze greaves over his feet, and a bronze shield between his shoulders.
And the rod of his spear was like the weaver's organ, and the iron of his spear of six hundred shekels of iron, and before him the squire.
And he stopped, and cried out to the companies of Israel, and said to them, Why will you go out to order the battle? Am I not a Philistine and you are Saul's servants? Choose a man from among you who will come down to me.
If he can fight with me and hurt me, we will be your servants; but if I overcome you and hurt you, then you will be our servants, and you will serve us.
And the Philistine said, Today I challenge the companies of Israel, saying, Give me a man, that we may fight together.
And when Saul and all Israel heard these words of the Philistine, they were astonished, and were very afraid.
