Samuel 17
Jesse sends David to his brothers
And David was the son of a man, an ephrate, from Bethlehem of Judah, whose name was Jesse, who had eight children: and in Saul's day this man was old and advanced in age among men.
Jesse's three eldest sons went and followed Saul into war: and were the names of his three sons, who went to war, Eliab, the firstborn, and the second Abinadab, and the third Sama.
And David was the least; and the three largest followed Saul.
David came and went from Saul, however, to feed his father's sheep in Bethlehem.
So the Philistines came in the morning and in the evening; and came for forty days.
And Jesus said to David, his son, Take, I ask you, for your brothers an epha of this toasted grain and these ten loaves and run and take them to your camp, to your brothers.
But these ten milk cheeses lead to the head of a thousand; and you will visit your brothers, to see if it is well with them; and you will take his pledge.
And there was Saul, and they, and all the men of Israel in the valley of the oak, fighting with the Philistines.
Then David rose early in the morning, and left the sheep to a guard, and loaded himself up, and left, as Jesse had commanded him: and he came to the place of the chariots, when the camp was out in order of battle, and the screams called for battle.
And the Israelites and the Philistines set themselves in order, row by row.
And David left the cargo he had brought in the hand of the luggage guard, and ran into battle; and when he arrived, he asked his brothers if they were well.
