Joshua 17 The heritage of the half tribe of Manasseh

Joshua 17

The heritage of the half tribe of Manasseh

And the lot fell to the tribe of Manasseh, because he was the firstborn of Joseph, namely. Machir, the firstborn of Manasseh the father of Gilead, because he was a man of war, had Gilead and Bashan.

And the sons of Manasseh had a portion according to their families: The children of Abiezer, and the children of Hechech, and the children of Asriel, and the children of Shechem, and the children of Hefer, The sons of Shemida: These are the male sons of Manasseh the son of Joseph after their families.

But Zelophad the son of Hefer, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, had no sons, but only daughters: and these are the names of his daughters: Macla, Noah, Hogla, Milcah, and Tirzah.

And they came before Eleazar the priest, and before Joshua the son of Nun, and before the princes, saying, Jehovah hath commanded Moses to give us an inheritance among our brethren; At the word of the Lord he gave them an inheritance among his father's brothers.

And Manasseh was fit ten parts out of the land of Gilead, and Bashan is beyond Jordan;

For the daughters of Manasseh had inheritance among their sons: and the land of Gilead had the other sons of Manasseh.

And the border of Manasseh went from Asher to Micmethath before Shechem: and the border went out on the right hand to the inhabitants of Enpua.

Manasseh had the land of Tapua; But Tepua, in the border of Manasseh, had the children of Ephraim.

And this border goes down to the brook Cana, to the south of the brook: from Ephraim are these cities in the midst of the cities of Manasseh: and the border of Manasseh is north of the brook, and their outlets into the sea.

Ephraim to the south, and Manasseh to the north, and the sea is the border thereof: in the north they touch Asher; and to the east in Issachar.

For in Issachar and Asher had Manasseh Beth-sean and the places of his jurisdiction, and Ibleam and the places of his jurisdiction, and the inhabitants of Dor and the places of his jurisdiction, and the inhabitants of Endor and the places of his. their jurisdiction, and the inhabitants of Taanaque and the places of their jurisdiction, and the inhabitants of Megiddo and the places of their jurisdiction: three counties.

And the children of Manasseh could not drive out the inhabitants of those cities: because the Canaanites wanted to dwell in the same land.

And it came to pass, as the children of Israel increased in strength, that they made tributaries to the Canaanites; but they did not expel them at all.

And the sons of Joseph spake unto Joshua, saying, Why give me an inheritance only a lot and a portion, when I am such a great people, seeing that Jehovah hath blessed me hitherto?

And Joshua said unto them, If thou art such a great people, come up into the forest, and cut down for thee there in the land of the Perizzites, and of the Rephaim: for the mountains of Ephraim are so narrow to thee.

And the sons of Joseph said, The mountains would not be enough for us: there are chariots also among all the Canaanites that dwell in the land of the valley, and between the places of Bethshan, and the places of their jurisdiction, and among them that are in the valley of Jezreel

And Joshua spake unto the house of Joseph, to Ephraim, and to Manasseh, saying, Thou art a great people, and thou hast strong strength. only one luck you will not have;

But the mountains shall be yours; and when it is a forest, cut it down, and its outlets shall be thine: for thou shalt drive out the Canaanites, though they have chariots, though strong.
