Joshua gives to Caleb Hebron
1 This is what the children of Israel inherited in the land of Canaan: which Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel did to divide them;
2 By lot of their inheritance, as the Lord commanded, by the ministry of Moses concerning the nine tribes and the half tribe.
3 For to the two tribes and to the half tribe Moses had given inheritance beyond the Jordan: but to the Levites he gave no inheritance between them.
4 For the sons of Joseph were two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim; and they gave to the Levites no inheritance in the land, but cities in which they dwelt, and their suburbs for their cattle and their possession.
5 As the LORD commanded Moses, so did the children of Israel, and divided the land.
6 Then the children of Judah came to Joshua in Gilgal. And Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite said unto him, Thou knowest the word which the LORD spake unto Moses a man of God in Kadesh Barnea, because of me and thee.
7 I was forty years old when Moses the servant of the LORD sent me to spy out the land. and I brought him an answer, as I felt in my heart:
8 But my brothers who went up with me made the hearts of the people melt: but I continued to follow the Lord my God.
9 And Moses swore that day, saying, Surely the land that trodden thy foot shall be thine, and of thy children for an inheritance for ever; For you have continued to follow the Lord my God.
10 And now, behold, the Lord has kept me alive, as He said; forty-five years ago now, since the Lord spoke this word to Moses, while Israel was walking in the wilderness: and now, behold, I am about eighty and five years old this day.
11 And today I am as strong as in the day Moses sent me; what my strength was then, so is my strength now, for war, and for going out and for going in.
12 Now therefore give me this mountain of which the LORD spake in that day: for in that day thou hast heard that the Anakim are there, and great and strong cities are there: perhaps Jehovah will be with me to cast them out, as Jehovah hath said.
13 And Joshua blessed him, and gave Caleb the son of Jephunneh Hebron an inheritance.
14 Therefore Hebron came from Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Chereze, an inheritance unto this day: because he had persevered to follow the LORD God of Israel.
15 And it was before the name of Hebron Kirjath-arba: for Arba was a great man among the Anakim. And the earth rested from war.
