The Book of the Prophet Isaiah 63
Thanksgiving, confessions, and supplications of God's people
I will mention the mercies of the Lord, and the many praises of the Lord, according to all that the Lord has granted us; and the great goodness toward the house of Israel, which he showed them according to his mercies, and according to the multitude of his mercies.
For he said, “Surely they are my people, children who will not lie”; so he was their Savior.
In all their affliction he was afflicted, and the angel of his presence saved them; in his love and in his pity he redeemed them; and he took them up and carried them all the days of old.
But they rebelled and grieved his Holy Spirit; therefore he turned to be their enemy, and he himself fought against them.
Yet he remembered the days of old, of Moses and his people, saying, “Where is he who brought them up out of the sea with the shepherds of his flock?” Where is he who put his Holy Spirit among them?
He whose glorious arm he made to go at the right hand of Moses? Who divided the waters before them, to make an everlasting name?
He who led them through the depths like a horse in the desert, so that they never stumbled?
Like an animal that goes down into the valleys, the Spirit of the Lord gave them rest: so you led your people, to make a glorious name.
Look down from heaven, and see from your holy and glorious dwelling place. Where are your zeal and your mighty works? The noise of your bowels and your mercies, restrain them toward me!
But you are our Father, though Abraham does not know us, and Israel does not acknowledge us: you, O Lord, are our Father; our Redeemer from of old is your name.
Why, O Lord, do you make us stray from your ways? Why do you harden our hearts so that we do not fear you? For the sake of your servants, restore the tribes of your inheritance.
For a short time only your holy people possessed it; our adversaries have trampled your sanctuary.
We have become like those over whom you never ruled, like those who were never called by your name.
