1 Então respondeu Jó, e disse:

2 Tenho ouvido muitas coisas como estas; todos vós sois consoladores molestos.

3 Porventura não terão fim estas palavras de vento? Ou que te irrita, para assim responderes?

4 Falaria eu também como vós falais, se a vossa alma estivesse em lugar da minha alma? Ou amontoaria palavras contra vós, e menearia contra vós a minha cabeça?

5 Antes vos fortaleceria com a minha boca, e a consolação dos meus lábios abrandaria a vossa dor.

6 Se eu falar, a minha dor não cessa, e calando-me, qual é o meu alivio?

7 Na verdade, agora me molestou; tu assolaste toda a minha companhia.

8 Testemunha disto é que já me fizeste enrugado, e a minha magreza já se levanta contra mim e no meu rosto testifica contra mim.

9 Na sua ira me despedaçou, e ele me perseguiu; rangeu os seus dentes contra mim; aguça o meu adversário os seus olhos contra mim.

10 Abrem a sua boca contra mim; com desprezo me feriram nos queixos, e contra mim se ajuntaram todos.

11 Entrega-me Deus ao perverso, e nas mãos dos ímpios me faz cair.

12 Descansado estava eu, porém ele me quebrantou; e pegou-me pelo pescoço, e me despedaçou; também me pôs por seu alvo.

13 Cercam-me os seus flecheiros; atravessa-me os rins, e não me poupa; e o meu fel derrama pela terra.

14 Quebranta-me com quebranto sobre quebranto; arremete contra mim como um valente.

15 Cosi sobre a minha pele o saco, e revolvi a minha cabeça no pó.

16 O meu rosto todo está descorado de chorar, e sobre as minhas pálpebras está a sombra da morte,

17 Apesar de não haver violência nas minhas mãos, e de ser pura a minha oração.

18 Ah! Terra, não cubras o meu sangue; e não haja lugar para o meu clamor!

19 Eis que também agora está a minha testemunha no céu, e o meu fiador nas alturas.

20 Os meus amigos são os que zombam de mim; os meus olhos se desfazem em lágrimas diante de Deus.

21 Ah! Se alguém pudesse entender com Deus pelo homem, como o filho do homem pelo seu amigo!

22 Porque decorridos poucos anos, eu seguirei o caminho por onde não tornarei.

20 दुष्ट जन प्रतिदिन अपने ही दुख को भोगता है, उन थोड़े वर्षों में जो अत्याचारी के लिये रखे गए हैं।

21 उनके कानों में भयानक शब्द सुनाई देते हैं; शांति के समय भी विध्वंसक उस पर आक्रमण करता है।

22 वह यह विश्वास नहीं करता कि वह अंधकार से लौटेगा, परन्तु यह कि तलवार उसका इन्तजार कर रही है।

23 वह रोटी के लिये मारा मारा फिरता है, और कहता है, वह कहां है? वह अच्छी तरह जानता है कि अंधकार का दिन निकट है।

24 संकट और संकट उसको डराते हैं; युद्ध के लिए तैयार राजा की तरह उस पर विजय प्राप्त करो;

25 क्योंकि उसने परमेश्वर के विरुद्ध अपना हाथ बढ़ाया, और सर्वशक्तिमान पर क्रोध किया।

30 तू अंधकार से नहीं बच सकेगा; आग की ज्वाला उसकी शाखाओं को सुखा देगी, और उसके मुँह की साँस से वह लुप्त हो जाएगा।

31 इसलिये व्यर्थ पर भरोसा मत रखो और अपने आप को धोखा मत दो, क्योंकि व्यर्थ ही तुम्हारा फल होगा।

32 अपने दिन से पहले वह पूरा हो जाएगा; और उसकी शाखा हरी नहीं रहेगी।

33 वह अपनी कच्ची दाखों को दाखलता की नाईं झटकेगा, और उसके फूल जैतून के वृक्ष की नाईं झड़ेंगे।

17 Listen to me, and I will show you; and what I have seen I will tell you

18 (What the wise have declared, and what they have heard from their fathers they have not hidden.

19 To whom alone the land was given, and no stranger passed among them):

20 All the days the wicked mourn for himself, in the few years that are reserved for the oppressor.

21 The sound of terrors is in his ears; even in peace the desolator comes upon him.

22 He does not believe that he will return from darkness, but that the sword awaits him.

23 He wanders for bread, saying, "Where is he?" He knows that the day of darkness is near at hand.

24 Trouble and anguish terrify him; they prevail against him, as a king prepared for battle; 

25 For he has stretched out his hand against God, and has become angry with the Almighty.

26 He attacks him with a stiff neck and with the points of his shields.

27 Because he has covered his face with his fatness, and has made fatness on his sides.

28 And he has lived in desolate cities, in houses where no one lives, which are ready to be heaps of ruins.

29 He will not grow rich, nor will his wealth survive, nor will his possessions extend across the earth.

30 You will not escape from darkness; the flame of fire will dry up its branches, and the breath of its mouth will vanish.

31 Do not trust in vanity to deceive yourself, for vanity will be your reward.

32 It will be accomplished before its day, and its branch will not be green. 33 He will shake off his unripe grapes like the vine, and his blossom will fall like the olive tree.

34 For the assembly of the hypocrites will be barren, and fire will consume the tents of bribery.

35 They conceive mischief and bring forth iniquity, and their belly prepares deceit.

20 Todos os dias o ímpio se dá pena a si mesmo, no curto número de anos que se reservam para o tirano.

21 O sonido dos horrores está nos seus ouvidos; até na paz lhe sobrevém o assolador.

22 Não crê que tornará das trevas, mas que o espera a espada.

23 Anda vagueando por pão, dizendo: Onde está? Bem sabe que o dia das trevas lhe está perto, à mão.

24 Assombram-no a angústia e a tribulação; prevalecem contra ele, como o rei preparado para a peleja;

25 Porque estendeu a sua mão contra Deus, e contra o Todo-poderoso se embraveceu.

26 Arremete contra ele com dura cerviz, e com os pontos grossos dos seus escudos;

27 Porquanto cobriu o seu rosto com a sua gordura, e criou enxúndia nas ilhargas.

28 E habitou em cidades assoladas, em casas em que ninguém morava, que estavam a ponto de fazer-se montões de ruínas:

29 Não se enriquecerá, nem subsistirá a sua fazenda, nem se estenderão pela terra as suas possessões.

30 Não escaparás das trevas; a chama do fogo secará os seus renovos e ao assopro da sua boca desaparecerá.

31 Não confie pois na vaidade enganando-se a si mesmo, porque a vaidade será a sua recompensa.

32 Antes do seu dia ela se consumará; e o seu ramo não reverdecerá.

33 Sacudirá as suas uvas verdes, como as da vide, e deixará cair a sua flor como a da oliveira.

34 Porque o ajuntamento dos hipócritas se fará estéril, e o fogo consumirá as tendas do suborno.

35 Concebem o trabalho, e produzem a iniqüidade, e o seu ventre prepara enganos.

15 देखो, वह अपने भक्तों पर भी भरोसा नहीं रखेगा; न तो आकाश उसकी दृष्टि में पवित्र है।

16 तो फिर मनुष्य कितना अधिक घिनौना और भ्रष्ट हो गया है, जो अधर्म को जल के समान पीता है?

1 Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said,

2 Will a wise man answer with windy knowledge? And fill his belly with the east wind?

3 Do you argue with words that are worthless, and with arguments that do not profit?

4 But you have made fear vain, and have diminished your prayers before God.

5 For your mouth has declared your iniquity, and you have chosen the tongue of the crafty.

6 Your mouth condemns you, and not I; your lips testify against you.

7 Are you the first man that was born? Or were you brought forth before the hills?

8 Or have you heard the secret counsel of God, and have limited wisdom to yourself?

9 What do you know that we do not know? What do you understand that is not in us? 

10 There are also among us who are gray-haired and aged, older than your father. 

11 Are the consolations of God too small for you? Or is there something hidden from you?

 12 Why does your heart carry you away, and why do you blink your eyes, 

13 That you turn your spirit away from God, and let such words come out of your mouth? 

14 What is man, that he should be pure? Or what is born of a woman, that he should be righteous? 

15 Behold, he will not put his trust in his saints, and the heavens are not pure in his sight. 

16 How much more abominable and corrupt is man, who drinks iniquity like water?

6 A tua boca te condena, e não eu; os teus lábios testificam contra ti.

7 És tu porventura o primeiro homem que foi nascido. Ou foste gerado antes dos outeiros?

8 Ou ouviste o secreto conselho de Deus e a ti só limitaste a sabedoria?

9 Que sabes tu, que nós não saibamos? Que entendes, que não haja em nós?

10 Também há entre nós encanecidos e idosos, muito mais idosos do que teu pai.

11 Porventura as consolações de Deus te são pequenas? Ou alguma coisa se oculta em ti?

12 Por que te arrebata o teu coração e por que piscas os teus olhos,

13 Para virares contra Deus o teu espírito, e deixares sair tais palavras da tua boca?

14 Que é o homem, para que seja puro? E o que nasce da mulher para que fique justo?

1 Man, born of a woman, is of few days and full of trouble.

2 He comes forth like a flower, and withers; he also flees like a shadow, and does not remain.

3 Yet you open your eyes upon such a one, and bring me into judgment with you.

4 Who can bring something clean out of an unclean? No one.

5 For his days are determined, the number of his months is with you; and you have set a limit for him, that he may not pass beyond them.

6 Turn away from him, that he may have rest, until he has contentment like a hired servant in his day.

7 For there is hope for a tree, that if it is cut down, it will sprout again, and its shoots will not cease.

8 Though its root grows old in the earth, and its stump dies in the ground, 

9 At the scent of water it will bud and put out branches like a plant. 

10 But when a man dies, he is consumed; if a man gives up the ghost, where is he? 

11 As the waters fail from the sea, and the river dries up and dries up. 

12 So man lies down and does not rise; until the heavens are no more he will not awake or arise from his sleep. 

13 Oh that you would hide me in the grave, that you would keep me secret until your anger turns away; that you would set a limit for me and remember me! 

14 If a man dies, will he live again? All the days of my struggle I will wait, until my change comes. 

15 You would call to me, and I would answer you: Have affection for the work of your hands. 

16 But now you count my steps; do you not watch over my sin?

17 My transgression is sealed up in a bag, and you heap up my iniquities.

18 Surely a mountain falls and is destroyed, and a rock is removed from its place.

19 Waters wear away the stones; torrents drown the dust of the earth; yet you destroy the hope of man.

20 You prevail against him forever, and he passes away; you change his face and send him away.

21 His children are honored, and he does not know it; they are diminished, and he does not perceive it.

22 But his flesh is in pain within him, and his soul mourns within him.

4 Quem do imundo tirará o puro? Ninguém.

5 Visto que os seus dias estão determinados, contigo está o número dos seus meses; e tu lhe puseste limites, e não passará além deles.

6 Desvia-te dele, para que tenha repouso, até que, como o jornaleiro, tenha contentamento no seu dia.

7 Porque há esperança para a árvore, que, se for cortada, ainda se renovará, e não cessarão os seus renovos.

8 Se envelhecer na terra a sua raiz, e morrer o seu tronco no pó,

9 Ao cheiro das águas brotará, e dará ramos como a planta.

14 Why should I take my flesh in my teeth, and put my life in my hand?

15 Though he slay me, I will trust in him; yet I will defend my ways before him.

16 This also will be my salvation, for the wicked will not come before him.

17 Hear carefully my words, and with your ears my demonstration.

18 Behold, I have ordered my cause, and I know that I will be found righteous.

19 Who is he that will contend with me? If I were to hold my peace now, I would give up my spirit.

20 Only two things do not you do to me, that I may not hide from your face:

21 Withdraw your hand far from me, and do not let your terror terrify me.

22 Call, and I will answer; or I will speak, and you answer me.

23 How many guilts and sins have I? Make me aware of my transgression and my sin.

24 Why do you hide your face, and count me as your enemy?

25 Will you break the blown-off leaf? Or chase away the dry stubble?

26 Why do you write bitter things against me, and make me inherit the guilt of my youth?

27 You put my feet in stocks, and watch all my ways, and mark the prints of my feet,

28 Though I am like a rotten thing that consumes away, and like a garment that is moth-eaten.

20 Duas coisas somente não faças para comigo; então me não esconderei do teu rosto:

21 Desvia a tua mão para longe de mim, e não me espante o teu terror.

22 Chama pois e eu responderei; ou eu falarei, e tu responde-me.

23 Quantas culpas e pecados tenho eu? Notifica-me a minha transgressão e o meu pecado.

7 क्या तुम ईश्वर के विरुद्ध दुष्टता की बातें कहोगे, और उसके विरुद्ध झूठ बोलोगे?

8 क्या तुम उसका व्यक्तित्व स्वीकार करोगे? क्या आप परमेश्‍वर के लिये संघर्ष करेंगे?

9 क्या यह तुम्हारे लिये अच्छा होगा यदि वह तुम्हारी तलाशी ले? या फिर तुम उसका भी वैसे ही मजाक उड़ाओगे जैसे तुम किसी भी मनुष्य का मजाक उड़ाते हो?

10 यदि तुम छिपकर पक्षपात करो, तो वह तुम्हें अवश्य डांटेगा।

11 क्या उसका ऐश्वर्य तुम्हें चकित नहीं करेगा? और क्या उनका भय तुम पर न पड़ेगा?

12 तेरा स्मरण राख के समान है, तेरे ऊंचे स्थान कीच के समान हैं।

1 Behold, my eyes have seen all this, and my ears have heard and understood it.

2 As you know, so I know that I am not inferior to you.

3 But I will speak to the Almighty; and I will make my defense before God.

4 But you are inventors of lies, and all of you are worthless physicians.

5 Would that you would be completely silent, that would be your wisdom!

6 Hear now my defense, and listen to the arguments of my lips.

7 Will you speak wickedly for God, and speak lies for him?

8 Will you accept his person? Will you contend for God?

9 Would it be good for you if he searched you out? Or would you mock him as one mocks?

10 He will surely rebuke you if you show partiality in secret.

11 Will not his majesty terrify you? Will not his fear fall upon you?

12 Your memory is like ashes, your heights like clay.

13 Be silent before me, and I will speak, and let whatever comes upon me come upon me.

9 Ser-vos-ia bom, se ele vos esquadrinhasse? Ou zombareis dele, como se zomba de qualquer homem?

10 Certamente vos repreenderá, se em oculto fizerdes distinção de pessoas.

11 Porventura não vos espantará a sua alteza? E não cairá sobre vós o seu temor?

23 वह जातियों को बढ़ाता और नष्ट करता है; लोगों को तितर-बितर करता है, और उन्हें फिर वापस लाता है।

Job Defends Himself Against the Accusations of His Friends

1 Then Job answered and said:

2 Surely you are the people, and wisdom will die with you.

3 I also have a heart like yours, and I am not inferior to you; and who does not know such things as these?

4 I am a laughingstock to my friends; I who call upon God, and he answers me; the just and the upright are a laughingstock.

5 A contemptible torch is in the sight of him who is at ease, who is ready to stumble with his feet.

6 The tents of the desolate have rest, and those who provoke God are safe; God has put everything in their hands.

7 But ask now the beasts, and they will teach you; and the birds of the air, and they will tell you;

8 Or speak to the earth, and it will teach you; even the fish of the sea will tell you.

9 Who does not understand in all these things that the hand of the Lord has done this, 

10 Who is in His hand the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all human flesh? 

11 Does not the ear test words, as the palate tastes food? 

12 With the aged is wisdom, and in long life understanding. 

13 With Him are wisdom and strength; He has counsel and understanding. 

14 Behold, He tears down, and it shall not be built again; and to him who He shuts in, it shall not be opened. 

15 Behold, He holds back the waters, and they dry up; He sends them out, and they overturn the earth. 

16 With Him are strength and wisdom; He is the one who errs and who causes to err. 

17 He leads counselors away spoiled, and makes judges go mad. 

18 He looses the bands of kings, and binds the girdle around their waist. 

19 He leads princes away as plunder, and overthrows the mighty. 

20 He takes away the speech of the trusty, and takes away the understanding of the aged. 

21 He pours contempt on princes, and loosens the belt of the mighty. 

22 He reveals the depths of darkness, and brings forth the shadow of death. 

23 He multiplies nations, and destroys them; he scatters nations, and leads them again. 

24 He takes away the hearts of the princes of the nations of the earth, and makes them wander in the deserts, without a path. 

25 They grope in the darkness, without light, and makes them mad like drunkards.

5 Tocha desprezível é, na opinião do que está descansado, aquele que está pronto a tropeçar com os pés,

6 As tendas dos assoladores têm descanso, e os que provocam a Deus estão seguros; nas suas mãos Deus lhes põe tudo.

16 Com ele está a força e a sabedoria; seu é o que erra e o que faz errar.

17 Aos conselheiros leva despojados, e aos juízes faz desvairar.

18 Solta a atadura dos reis, e ata o cinto aos seus lombos.

19 Aos príncipes leva despojados, aos poderosos transtorna.

20 Aos confiados tira a fala, e toma o entendimento aos velhos.

21 Derrama desprezo sobre os príncipes, e afrouxa o cinto dos fortes.

22 As profundezas das trevas manifesta, e a sombra da morte traz à luz.

3 क्या तुम्हारे झूठ से लोग चुप हो जायेंगे? और क्या तुम बिना किसी को लज्जित किये उपहास करोगे?

4 क्योंकि तू ने तो कहा है, कि मेरा मन पवित्र है, और मैं तेरे सम्मुख पवित्र हूं।

5 परन्तु मैं तो यह चाहता हूं कि परमेश्वर तुम्हारे विरुद्ध बोले और अपना मुंह खोले।

6 और तू ने बुद्धि के भेदों को जो अनेक प्रकार के हैं, प्रगट किया है। क्योंकि वह जानता है कि परमेश्वर तुम्हारे अधर्म के अनुसार तुमसे कम चाहता है।

7 क्या तुम परमेश्वर के मार्ग जान सकते हो? क्या आप सर्वशक्तिमान की पूर्णता का पता लगा सकते हैं?

8 उसकी बुद्धि आकाश के समान ऊँची है; आप क्या कर सकते हैं? यह नरक से भी गहरा है, तुम क्या जान सकते हो?

9 उसका माप पृथ्वी से भी लम्बा है; और समुद्र से भी अधिक चौड़ा है।

10 यदि वह नाश करे, और बन्द कर दे, या इकट्ठा करे, तो उसे कौन रोक सकेगा?

11 क्योंकि वह व्यर्थ मनुष्यों को जानता है, और दुष्टता को देखता है; और इसे ध्यान में नहीं लिया जाएगा?

12 परन्तु व्यर्थ मनुष्य में समझ नहीं होती; हाँ, मनुष्य जंगली गधे की संतान के रूप में जन्म लेता है।
