Amaziah Kills His Father's Killers

1 In the second year of Joash the son of Jehoahaz king of Israel, Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah began to reign.

2 He was twenty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Joadan of Jerusalem.

3 And he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, though not like his father David; but he did according to all that Joash his father had done.

4 Only the high places were not taken down, for the people still sacrificed and burned incense on the high places.

5 So it came to pass, when the kingdom was established in his hand, that he killed his servants who had killed the king his father.

6 But the sons of the murderers he did not kill, as it is written in the Book of the Law of Moses, where the Lord commanded, saying, "Fathers shall not be put to death for their children, nor shall children be put to death for their fathers; but each one will be put to death for his own sin.

7 He struck down ten thousand Edomites in the Valley of Salt, and took Selah in battle; and he called its name Joktheel to this day.

8 Then Amaziah sent messengers to Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz, the son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, "Come, let us face each other."

9 But Jehoash king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, "The thistle that is in Lebanon sent to the cedar that is in Lebanon, saying, 'Give your daughter to my son as a wife.' But the wild animals that were in Lebanon trampled the thistle."

10 You have indeed struck down the Edomites, and your heart has lifted you up. Boast about it and stay at home. Why should you meddle in evil, so that you and Judah may fall with you? 

11 But Amaziah would not listen. So Jehoash king of Israel and Amaziah king of Judah went up and faced each other at Beth Shemesh, which belongs to Judah. ​​

12 Judah was defeated by Israel, and they fled every man to their tents. 

13 Then Jehoash king of Israel took Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Joash, the son of Ahaziah, at Beth Shemesh. He came to Jerusalem and broke down the wall of Jerusalem from the gate of Ephraim to the corner gate, four hundred cubits. 

14 He took all the gold and silver and all the vessels that were found in the house of the LORD and in the treasuries of the king's house, as well as the hostages, and returned to Samaria. 

15 Now the rest of the acts of Joash, what he did, and his might, and how he fought against Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

16 And Joash slept with his fathers, and was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel: and Jeroboam his son reigned in his stead.

17 And Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah lived after the death of Joash the son of Jehoahaz king of Israel fifteen years.

18 Now the rest of the acts of Amaziah, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

19 And they conspired against him in Jerusalem, and he fled to Lachish: but they sent after him to Lachish, and slew him there. 20 And they brought him on horses, and buried him in Jerusalem with his fathers in the city of David.

21 And all the people of Judah took Azariah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king in place of his father Amaziah.

22 And he built Elath, and restored it to Judah, after the king slept with his fathers.

18 And he said, “Take the arrows.” And he took them. And he said to the king of Israel, "Strike the ground." And he struck it three times, and it stopped.

19 Then the man of God was very angry with him, and said, "You should have struck it five or six times; then you would have struck the Syrians until you had consumed them; but now you will strike the Syrians only three times."

5 And the LORD gave Israel a savior, and they came out from under the hand of the Syrians: and the children of Israel dwelt in their tents, as before. 

6 (However, they departed not from the sins of the house of Jeroboam, which he made Israel to sin; but walked in them: and the grove also remained in Samaria.) 

7 For he left no people to Jehoahaz, save fifty horsemen, and ten chariots, and ten thousand footmen: for the king of Syria had destroyed them, and had ground them to powder.

 8 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoahaz, and all that he did, and his might, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel? 

9 And Jehoahaz slept with his fathers, and they buried him in Samaria. And Joash his son reigned in his stead. 

10 In the thirty-seventh year of Joash king of Judah, Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz began to reign over Israel in Samaria, and he reigned sixteen years.

11 And he did evil in the sight of the Lord: he departed not from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin, but walked in them.

12 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoash, and all that he did, and his might with which he fought against Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

13 And Jehoash slept with his fathers, and Jeroboam sat on his throne: and Jehoash was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel.

27 और उन्होंने बाल की मूरत को तोड़ डाला, और बाल के भवन को तोड़ डाला, और उसमें शौचालय बना दिया, जो आज के दिन तक बना है।

28 और येहू ने इस्राएल के बाल को नाश किया।

29 परन्तु येहू नबात के पुत्र यारोबाम के पापोंके अनुसार चलने से न अलग हुआ, जिस ने इस्राएल से अर्यात् बेतेल और दान के सोने के बछड़ोंके विषय में पाप कराया या।

30 और यहोवा ने येहू से कहा, जो काम मेरी दृष्टि में ठीक है तू ने वह करके अच्छा किया है, और जो कुछ मैं ने सोचा था उसके अनुसार तू ने अहाब के घराने के लिये किया है, इस कारण तेरे वंश की पीढ़ी पीढ़ी तक तेरे वंश बने रहेंगे। इसराइल के सिंहासन पर.

31 परन्तु येहू ने इस्राएल के परमेश्वर यहोवा की व्यवस्था पर पूरे मन से चलने में चौकसी न की, और न यारोबाम जिस ने इस्राएल से पाप कराया या, उसके पापों से अलग न हुआ।

32 उन दिनों में यहोवा इस्राएल की सीमाओं को छोटा करने लगा, क्योंकि हजाएल ने इस्राएल की सारी सीमाओं पर उनको मार डाला।

33 यरदन से लेकर सूर्योदय तक, और गिलाद का सारा देश; गादी, और रूबेनियों, और मनश्शेइयों को अरोएर से, जो अर्नोन नाले के पास है, अर्यात् गिलाद, और बाशान।

34 येहू के सब काम और उसके सब काम, और उसकी सारी शक्ति का वर्णन क्या इस्राएल के इतिहास की पुस्तक में नहीं लिखा है?

35 और येहू अपने पुरखाओं के संग सो गया, और उन्होंने उसे सामरिया में मिट्टी दी; और उसका पुत्र यहोआहाज उसके स्थान पर राज्य करने लगा।

Jehu Meets Jonadab and Slays the Servants of Baal

15 And he departed from there, and met Jonadab the son of Rechab coming to meet him; and he saluted him, and said unto him, Is thy heart right, as my heart is with thy heart? And Jonadab said, It is. If so, give me thy hand. And he gave him his hand, and took him up into his chariot.

16 And he said, Go with me, and thou shalt see my zeal for the LORD. And they put him in his chariot.

17 And he came to Samaria, and smote all that were left of the house of Ahab in Samaria, until he had destroyed them, according to the word of the LORD, which he had spoken to Elijah.

18 And Jehu gathered all the people together, and said unto them, Ahab served Baal a little; but Jehu shall serve him much.

19 Therefore call to me now all the prophets of Baal, all his servants, and all his priests; let not one be missing, for I have a great sacrifice to offer to Baal; whoever is missing shall not live. But Jehu did this craftily, to destroy the servants of Baal.

20 And Jehu said, Consecrate a solemn assembly to Baal. And they proclaimed.

21 And Jehu sent throughout all Israel: and all the servants of Baal came, and there was not a man of them that did not come: and they entered the house of Baal; and the house of Baal was filled from one end to the other.

22 Then he said to him that was in charge of the wardrobe, Bring forth the garments for all the servants of Baal. And he brought forth their garments. 

23 Then Jehu and Jehonadab the son of Rechab went into the house of Baal and said to the servants of Baal, "Search and see that there is none of the servants of the Lord here with you, but only the servants of Baal."

 24 As they were about to offer sacrifices and burnt offerings, Jehu prepared eighty men outside and said to them, "If any of the men I give into your hands escape, your life will be for his life." 

25 When he had finished offering the burnt offering, Jehu said to his guard and his captains, "Go in and strike them down; let not one of them escape." So they struck them with the edge of the sword. The guards and the captains threw them out and went to the city of the house of Baal. 

26 They took the images out of the house of Baal and burned them. 

27 They also broke down the image of Baal, and tore down the house of Baal, and made it a cesspool, unto this day. 

28 So Jehu destroyed Baal out of Israel. 

29 But Jehu did not turn aside from following the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin, namely, the golden calves that were in Bethel and in Dan.

 30 And the LORD said unto Jehu, Because thou hast done well in doing that which is right in my eyes, and hast done unto the house of Ahab according to all that was in mine heart, thy children to the fourth generation shall sit on the throne of Israel.

 31 But Jehu took not heed to walk in the law of the LORD God of Israel with all his heart, nor did he turn aside from the sins of Jeroboam, who made Israel to sin. 

32 In those days the Lord began to reduce the borders of Israel, because Hazael defeated them in all the borders of Israel: 

33 From the Jordan eastward, and all the land of Gilead, the Gadites, the Reubenites, and the Manassites, from Aroer, which is by the River Arnon, that is, Gilead, and Bashan. 

34 Now the rest of the acts of Jehu, and all that he did, and all his might, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of Israel? 

35 And Jehu slept with his fathers, and they buried him in Samaria: and Jehoahaz his son reigned in his stead. 

36 And the days that Jehu reigned over Israel in Samaria were twenty-eight years.

15 E, partindo dali, encontrou a Jonadabe, filho de Recabe, que lhe vinha ao encontro, o qual saudou e lhe disse: Reto é o teu coração, como o meu coração é com o teu coração? E disse Jonadabe: É. Então, se é, dá-me a mão. E deu-lhe a mão, e fê-lo subir consigo ao carro.

16 E disse: Vai comigo, e verás o meu zelo para com o Senhor. E o puseram no seu carro.

17 E, chegando a Samaria, feriu a todos os que ficaram da casa de Acabe em Samaria, até que os destruiu, conforme a palavra do Senhor, que lhe dissera a Elias.

18 E ajuntou Jéu a todo o povo, e disse-lhe: Acabe serviu pouco a Baal; Jéu porém muito o servirá.

19 Pelo que chamai-me agora todos os profetas de Baal, todos os seus servos e todos os seus sacerdotes; não falte nenhum, porque tenho um grande sacrifício a fazer a Baal; todo aquele que faltar não viverá. Porém Jéu fazia isto com astúcia, para destruir os servos de Baal.

20 Disse mais Jéu: Consagrai a Baal uma assembléia solene. E apregoaram.

21 Também Jéu enviou por todo o Israel: e vieram todos os servos de Baal, e nenhum homem deles ficou que não viesse: e entraram na casa de Baal, e encheu-se a casa de Baal, de um lado ao outro.

22 Então disse ao que tinha o cargo das vestimentas. Tira as vestimentas para todos os servos de Baal. E ele lhes tirou para fora as vestimentas.

23 E entrou Jéu com Jonadabe, filho de Recabe, na casa de Baal, e disse aos servos de Baal: Examinai, e vede bem, que porventura nenhum dos servos do Senhor aqui haja convosco, senão somente os servos de Baal.

24 E, entrando eles a fazerem sacrifícios e holocaustos, Jéu preparou da parte de fora oitenta homens, e disse-lhes: Se escapar algum dos homens que eu entregar em vossas mãos, a vossa vida será pela vida dele.

25 E sucedeu que, acabando de fazer o holocausto, disse Jéu aos da sua guarda, e aos capitães: Entrai, feri-os, não escape nenhum. E os feriram ao fio da espada; e os guarda e os capitães os lançaram fora, e se foram à cidade da casa de Baal.

26 E tiraram as estátuas da casa de Baal, e as queimaram.

27 Também quebraram a estátua de Baal: e derrubaram a casa de Baal, e fizeram dela latrinas, até ao dia de hoje.

28 E assim Jéu destruiu a Baal de Israel.

29 Porém não se apartou Jéu de seguir os pecados de Jeroboão, filho de Nebate, que fez pecar Israel, a saber: dos bezerros de ouro, que estavam em Betel e em Dã.

30 Pelo que disse o Senhor a Jéu: Porquato bem obraste em fazer o que é reto aos meus olhos e, conforme a tudo quanto eu tinha no meu coração, fizeste à casa de Acabe, teus filhos até a quarta geração se assentarão no trono de Israel.

31 Mas Jéu não teve o cuidado de andar com todo o seu coração na lei do Senhor Deus de Israel, nem se apartou dos pecados de Jeroboão, que fez pecar a Israel.

32 Naqueles dias começou o Senhor a diminuir os termos de Israel porque Hazael os feriu em todas as fronteiras de Israel.

33 Desde o Jordão para o nacente do sol, e toda a terra de Gileade; os gaditas, e os rubenitas, e os manassitas, desde Aroer, que está junto ao ribeiro de Arnom, a saber Gileade, e Basã.

34 Ora o mais dos sucessos de Jéu, e tudo quanto fez, e todo o seu poder, porventura não está escrito no livro das crônicas de Israel?

35 E Jéu dormiu com seus pais, e o sepultaram em Samaria: e Joacaz, seu filho, reinou em seu lugar.

36 E os dias que Jéu reinou sobre Israel em Samaria foram vinte e oito anos.
