Samuel 19
Jonathan appeases his father's jealousy of David
And Saul spoke to Jonathan his son and all his servants to kill David. But Jonathan, Saul's son, was very fond of David.
And Jonathan announced it to David, saying, My father, Saul, seeks to kill you for what he now guards you in the morning, and remains hidden, and hides.
And I will go out, and I will be at my father's hand in the field where you are, and I will speak to you to my father, and I will see what is, and I will announce it.
Then Jonathan spoke well of David to Saul, his father, and said to him, Do not sin the king against his servant David, because he has not sinned against you, and because his deeds are very good for you.
For he put his soul in his hand, and smote the Philistines, and the Lord made a great deliverance to all Israel; you saw it yourself and rejoiced: why then would you sin against innocent blood, killing David without cause?
And Saul listened to Jonathan's voice, and Saul swore, As the Lord lives, he will not die.
And Jonathan called David, and told him all these words: and Jonathan took David to Saul, and stood before him as before.
And there was war again: and David went out, and fought against the Philistines, and smote them with a great wound, and fled before him.
But the evil spirit on the part of the Lord came upon Saul, as he sat in his house, and held his spear in his hand, and David touched the musical instrument with his hand.
And Saul tries to drive David into the wall, but he turned away from Saul, who struck the wall with a spear: so David fled, and escaped that same night.
But Saul sent messengers to the house of David to keep him safe and kill him in the morning, so that Michal, his wife, warned David, saying, If you do not save your life tonight, tomorrow they will kill you.
