1 सुलैमान के नीतिवचन। बुद्धिमान पुत्र पिता को आनन्दित करता है, परन्तु मूर्ख पुत्र अपनी माता को दुःख देता है।

2 दुष्टता के भण्डार से कुछ लाभ नहीं होता, परन्तु धर्म मृत्यु से बचाता है।

3 यहोवा धर्मी के प्राण को भूखा नहीं रहने देता, परन्तु वह दुष्टों की अभिलाषा पूरी नहीं करता।

4 जो छल से काम करता है वह निर्धन हो जाता है, परन्तु परिश्रमी अपने हाथों से धनी बनता है।

5 जो धूपकाल में बटोरता है वह बुद्धिमान पुत्र है, परन्तु जो कटनी के समय सोता है वह लज्जा का कारण होता है।

6 धर्मी के सिर पर आशीर्वाद होता है, परन्तु दुष्टों का मुंह हिंसा से ढका रहता है।

9 जो खराई से चलता है, वह निडर चलता है, परन्तु जो टेढ़ी चाल चलता है, वह प्रगट हो जाता है।

10 जो नैन से इशारा करता है, वह दुःख देता है, और मूर्ख के होंठ उलट दिए जाते हैं।

11 धर्मी का मुँह जीवन का सोता है, परन्तु उपद्रव दुष्टों के मुँह को ढाँप लेता है।

12 बैर झगड़े को भड़काता है, परन्तु प्रेम सब अपराधों को ढाँप लेता है।

13 समझवाले के होठों में बुद्धि होती है, परन्तु निर्बुद्धि की पीठ के लिये छड़ी है।

14 बुद्धिमान लोग बुद्धि को छिपा रखते हैं, परन्तु मूर्खों का मुँह विनाश का कारण होता है।

15 धनी का धन उसका गढ़ है; निर्धन का विनाश उसकी दरिद्रता है।

16 धर्मी का काम जीवन की ओर ले जाता है, परन्तु दुष्टों की कटनी पाप की ओर ले जाती है।

17 जो शिक्षा पर ध्यान देता है, उसके लिए जीवन का मार्ग है, परन्तु जो डाँट को छोड़ देता है, वह भटक जाता है। 

18 जो बैर को छिपा रखता है, उसके होंठ झूठ बोलते हैं, और जो निन्दा करता है, वह मूर्ख है।

19 जहाँ बहुत बातें होती हैं, वहाँ अपराध की कमी नहीं होती, परन्तु जो अपने होठों को बन्द रखता है, वह बुद्धिमान है।

20 धर्मी की जीभ उत्तम चाँदी के समान है; दुष्टों का हृदय व्यर्थ है।

21 धर्मी के होठों से बहुतों का पालन-पोषण होता है, परन्तु मूर्ख अज्ञानता के कारण मर जाते हैं।

22 यहोवा का आशीर्वाद धनी बनाता है, और दुःख नहीं देता।

23 मूर्ख के लिए गलत काम करना मनोरंजन की बात है, परन्तु समझवाले के लिए बुद्धि वैसी ही है।

24 दुष्ट पर भय आ पड़ेगा, परन्तु परमेश्वर धर्मी की इच्छा पूरी करेगा।

25 दुष्ट आँधी की नाईं नाश हो जाता है, परन्तु धर्मी का आधार सदा स्थिर रहता है।

26 जैसे दाँतों के लिए सिरका, और आँखों के लिए धुआँ, वैसे ही आलसी अपने शासकों के लिए होता है।

 27 यहोवा का भय मानने से आयु बढ़ती है, परन्तु दुष्टों के वर्ष घट जाते हैं।

28 धर्मी की आशा आनन्द है, परन्तु दुष्टों की आशा नाश हो जाती है।

29 यहोवा का मार्ग धर्मी लोगों के लिए बल है, परन्तु कुटिल लोगों का विनाश होता है।

30 धर्मी कभी नहीं डगमगाएगा, परन्तु दुष्ट लोग देश में बसने न पाएँगे।

31 धर्मी के मुँह से बुद्धि की बातें निकलती हैं, परन्तु दुष्टों की जीभ काट दी जाएगी।

32 धर्मी के होंठ तो ग्रहणयोग्य बातें जानते हैं, परन्तु दुष्टों का मुँह कुटिलता से भरा होता है।

1 The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son makes a glad father, but a foolish son is a grief to his mother.

2 The treasures of wickedness profit nothing, but righteousness delivers from death.

3 The Lord will not let the soul of the righteous go hungry, but he thwarts the desire of the wicked.

4 He who works with a deceitful hand becomes poor, but the hand of the diligent makes rich.

5 He who gathers in summer is a wise son, but he who sleeps in harvest is a son who brings shame.

6 A blessing is on the head of the righteous, but violence covers the mouth of the wicked.

7 The memory of the righteous is blessed, but the name of the wicked will rot.

8 The wise in heart accept commandments, but the chattering fool will be overthrown. 

9 Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but whoever perverts his ways will be found out.

10 He who winks with his eyes causes grief, and a fool's lips will be overthrown.

11 The mouth of the righteous is a well of life, but violence covers the mouth of the wicked.

12 Hatred stirs up strife, but love covers all transgressions.

13 On the lips of the discerning is wisdom, but a rod is for the back of one void of understanding.

14 Wise men hide wisdom, but the mouth of fools is destruction.

15 The rich man's wealth is his city of strength; the destruction of the poor is their poverty.

16 The work of the righteous leads to life, but the harvest of the wicked to sin.

17 The path to life is to he who heeds instruction, but he who forsakes reproof goes astray. 

18 He who conceals hatred has lying lips, and he who slanders is a fool.

19 In the multitude of words there is no lack of transgression, but he who restrains his lips is wise.

20 The tongue of the righteous is like choice silver; the heart of the wicked is of no value.

21 The lips of the righteous feed many, but fools die for lack of knowledge.

22 The blessing of the Lord makes rich, and adds no sorrow.

23 It is sport for a fool to do wrong, but wisdom is the same for a man of understanding.

24 The fear of the wicked will come upon him, but God will fulfill the desire of the righteous.

25 Like a storm, so the wicked passes away, but the righteous has an everlasting foundation.

26 Like vinegar to the teeth, like smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to those who rule them. 

27 The fear of the Lord prolongs days, but the years of the wicked will be shortened.

28 The hope of the righteous is joy, but the expectation of the wicked will perish.

29 The way of the Lord is strength for the upright, but destruction will come to those who practice iniquity.

30 The righteous will never be moved, but the wicked will not inhabit the land.

31 The mouth of the righteous produces abundant wisdom, but the tongue of the wicked will be cut off.

2 उसने अपने बलिदान चढ़ाए हैं, अपना दाखरस मिलाया है, और अपनी मेज़ सजाई है।

3 उसने अपनी दासियों को आज्ञा दी है; उसने नगर की ऊँचाइयों से बुलाकर कहा है,

4 "भोले लोग यहाँ आएँ।" जो समझ नहीं रखते, उनसे वह कहती है, "

11 क्योंकि मेरे द्वारा तेरे दिन बढ़ेंगे, और तेरे जीवन के वर्ष बढ़ेंगे।

12 यदि तू बुद्धिमान है, तो तू अपने लिए बुद्धिमान ठहरेगा; और यदि तू ठट्ठा करनेवाला है, तो तू ही उसे सहेगा।

13 मूर्ख स्त्री शोर मचाती है; वह भोली है और कुछ नहीं जानती।

14 वह अपने घर के द्वार पर, या नगर के ऊँचे स्थानों पर आसन पर बैठी रहती है।

15 वह आने-जानेवालों को पुकारती है और सीधे अपने मार्ग पर चली जाती है।

16 भोले लोग यहीं मुड़ें। और जो समझ नहीं रखते, उनसे वह कहती है:

17 चोरी का पानी मीठा होता है, और छिपकर खाई हुई रोटी मनभावनी होती है।

1 Wisdom has built her house; she has hewn out her seven pillars.

2 She has sacrificed her sacrifices, mixed her wine, and prepared her table.

3 She has given orders to her maidens; she has invited from the heights of the city, saying,

4 "Let the simple turn in here." To those who lack understanding she says, "

5 Come, eat my bread, and drink the wine I have mixed."

6 Forsake the foolish, and live; and walk in the way of understanding.

7 He who rebukes a scorner receives shame; and he who rebukes the wicked receives his stain.

8 Do not rebuke a scorner, lest he hate you; rebuke a wise man, and he will love you.

 9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser; teach a righteous man, and he will increase in understanding.

10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is prudence.

11 For by me your days will be multiplied, and the years of your life will be increased.

12 If you are wise, you will be wise for yourself; and if you are a scoffer, you alone will bear it.

13 A foolish woman is noisy; she is simple and knows nothing.

14 She sits at the door of her house, or on a seat on the high places of the city.

15 She calls out to those who pass by and go straight on their way.

16 Let the simple turn here. And to those who lack understanding she says:

17 Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.

18 But she does not know that the dead are there; that her guests are in the depths of Sheol.

3 Já deu ordens às suas criadas, já anda convidando desde as alturas da cidade, dizendo:

4 Quem é simples, volte-se para aqui. Aos faltos de entendimento diz:

5 Vinde, comei do meu pão, e bebei do vinho que tenho misturado.

6 Deixai os insensatos, e vivei; e andai pelo caminho do entendimento.

7 O que repreende o escarnecedor, afronta toma para si; e o que censura o ímpio, recebe a sua mancha.

8 Não repreendas o escarnecedor, para que te não aborreça: repreende o sábio, e amar-te-á.

9 Dá instrução ao sábio, e ele, se fará mais sábio: ensina ao justo, e ele crescerá em entendimento.

10 O temor do Senhor é o princípio da sabedoria, e a ciência do Santo a prudência.

11 Porque por mim se multiplicam os teus dias, e anos de vida se te acrescentarão.

12 Se fores sábio, para ti sábio serás; e, se fores escarnecedor, tu só o suportarás.

13 A mulher louca é alvoroçadora; é simples, e não sabe coisa alguma.

14 E assenta-se à porta da sua casa ou numa cadeira, nas alturas da cidade.

15 Para chamar os que passam e seguem direto o seu caminho;

22 प्रभु ने मुझे अपने मार्ग के आरंभ में, अपने प्राचीन कार्यों से भी पहले, अभिषिक्त किया।

23 अनादि काल से, आदि से, पृथ्वी के आरंभ से भी पहले, मेरा अभिषेक किया गया।

24 इससे पहले कि कोई गहराइयाँ होतीं, मैं उत्पन्न हुआ, इससे पहले कि जल से भरपूर झरने होते।

25 इससे पहले कि पहाड़ स्थापित होते, पहाड़ियों से भी पहले, मैं उत्पन्न हुआ।

22 The Lord possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old.

23 From eternity I was anointed, from the beginning, before the earth began.

24 Before there were any depths, I was brought forth, before there were springs abounding with water.

25 Before the mountains were established, before the hills, I was brought forth.

26 He had not yet made the earth, nor the fields, nor the dust of the world.

27 When he prepared the heavens, I was there; when he compassed the face of the deep round about;

28 When he established the clouds above, when he strengthened the fountains of the deep;

29 When he set the sea its boundary, so that the waters could not transgress his command; when he set the foundations of the earth; 

30 Then I was with him and was his disciple; and I was his delight daily, rejoicing before him at all times;

31 Rejoicing in his habitable world, and finding my delights with the children of men.

32 Now therefore, children, listen to me, for blessed are those who keep my ways.

33 Hear instruction, do not refuse it, and be wise.

34 Blessed is the man who listens to me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my entrance.

35 For whoever finds me finds life and obtains favor from the Lord.

36 But whoever sins against me wrongs his own soul; all who hate me love death.

22 O Senhor me possuiu no princípio de seus caminhos, e antes de suas obras mais antigas.

23 Desde a eternidade fui ungida, desde o princípio, antes do começo da terra.

24 Antes de haver abismos, fui gerada, e antes ainda de haver fontes carregadas de águas.

25 Antes que os montes fossem firmados, antes dos outeiros, eu fui gerada.

26 Ainda ele não tinha feito a terra, nem os campos, nem sequer o princípio do pó do mundo.

27 Quando ele preparava os céus, aí estava eu; quando compassava ao redor a face do abismo;

28 Quando firmava as nuvens de cima, quando fortificava as fontes do abismo;

29 Quando punha ao mar o seu termo, para que as águas não trespassassem o seu mando; quando compunha os fundamentos da terra;

30 Então eu estava com ele e era seu aluno: e era cada dia as suas delícias, folgando perante ele em todo o tempo;

31 Folgando no seu mundo habitável, e achando as minhas delícias com os filhos dos homens.

32 Agora pois, filhos, ouvi-me, porque bem-aventurados serão os que guardarem os meus caminhos.

33 Ouvi a correção, não a rejeiteis, e sede sábios.

34 Bem-aventurado o homem que me dá ouvidos, velando às minhas portas cada dia, esperando às ombreiras da minha entrada.

35 Porque o que me achar achará a vida, e alcançará favor do Senhor.

2 क्या वह ऊँचे शिखरों पर, मार्ग के किनारे, मार्गों के चौराहे पर खड़ी है?

3 नगर के फाटकों पर, नगर के प्रवेश द्वार पर, और फाटकों के प्रवेश द्वार पर, वह पुकारती है:

4 हे मनुष्यों, मैं तुम्हें पुकारती हूँ; और मेरी आवाज़ मनुष्यों के पास जाती है।

5 हे भोले लोगों, समझो; और हे मूर्खों, समझदार बनो।

1 Does not wisdom call out, and understanding give its voice?

2 On the top of the heights, by the wayside, at the crossroads of the paths, she stands.

3 At the city gates, at the entrance to the city, and at the entrance of the gates, she cries out:

4 To you, O men, I call; and my voice goes to the sons of men.

5 Understand, O simple ones, understanding; and, O fools, be of an understanding heart.

6 Hear, for I will speak excellent things; my lips will be opened to justice.

7 For my mouth will speak truth; wickedness is an abomination to my lips.

8 All the words of my mouth are in righteousness; there is nothing crooked or perverse in them. 

9 They are all right to him who understands, and righteous to those who find knowledge.

10 Accept my instruction, not silver, and knowledge rather than choice gold.

11 For wisdom is better than rubies; none of all that is desired can compare with her.

12 I, wisdom, dwell with prudence, and find knowledge of counsels.

13 The fear of the Lord is to hate evil: pride, and arrogance, and the evil way, and the perverse mouth, I hate.

14 Counsel and sound wisdom are mine; I am understanding, and strength is mine.

15 By me kings reign, and princes ordain justice.

16 By me princes and nobles rule—even all the judges of the earth.

17 I love those who love me, and those who seek me early will find me. 

18 Riches and honor are with me; yes, lasting riches and righteousness.

19 My fruit is better than gold, yes, than fine gold; and my increase than choice silver.

20 I lead in the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of justice.

21 To give those who love me an inheritance, and to fill their treasuries.

1 Não clama por ventura a sabedoria, e a inteligência não dá a sua voz?

2 No cume das alturas, junto ao caminho, nas encruzilhadas das veredas se coloca.

3 Da banda das portas da cidade, à entrada da cidade, e à entrada das portas está clamando:

4 A vós, ó homens, clamo; e a minha voz se dirige aos filhos dos homens.

5 Entendei, ó simples, a prudência: e vós, loucos, entendei de coração.

6 Ouvi, porque proferirei coisas excelentes: os meus lábios se abrirão para a equidade.

7 Porque a minha boca proferirá a verdade: os meus lábios abominam a impiedade.

8 Em justiça são todas as palavras da minha boca: não há nelas nenhuma coisa tortuosa nem perversa.

9 Todas elas são retas para o que bem as entende, e justas para os que acham o conhecimento.

10 Aceitai a minha correção, e não a prata: e o conhecimento, mais do que o ouro fino escolhido.

11 Porque é melhor a sabedoria do que os rubins; e de tudo o que se deseja nada se pode comparar com ela.

12 Eu, a sabedoria, habito com a prudência, e acho a ciência dos conselhos.

13 O temor do Senhor é aborrecer o mal: a soberba, e a arrogância, e o mau caminho, e a boca perversa, aborreço.

14 Meu é o conselho e a verdadeira sabedoria: eu sou o entendimento, minha é a fortaleza.

15 Por mim reinam os reis e os príncipes ordenam justiça.

16 Por mim governam os príncipes e os nobres; sim todos os juízes da terra.

17 Eu amo aos que me amam, e os que de madrugada me buscam me acharão.

18 Riquezas e honra estão comigo; sim, riquezas duráveis e justiça.

19 Melhor é o meu fruto do que o ouro, sim, do que o ouro refinado; e as minhas novidades melhores do que a prata escolhida.

20 Faço andar pelo caminho da justiça, no meio das veredas do juízo.

1 My son, keep my words, and hide my commandments within you.

2 Keep my commandments and live; my law is like the apple of your eye.

3 Bind them on your fingers, write them on the tablet of your heart.

4 Say to wisdom, 'You are my sister,' and call prudence your relative.

5 To keep you safe from the strange woman, from the stranger who flatters with her words.

6 For from the window of my house, looking through my lattice,

7 I saw among the simple, I discovered among the youths, a young man void of sense,

8 Passing along the street near his corner, and taking the way to his house;

9 In the twilight, in the evening of the day, in the darkness and gloom of the night. 

10 And behold, a woman came to meet him, with the attire of a prostitute and a crafty heart.

11 She was noisy and contentious; her feet would not stay at home.

12 Now in the streets, now in the squares, lurking in every corner.

13 She came to him and kissed him. She frowned and said to him,

14 "I have peace offerings with me; today I have paid my vows.

15 Therefore I have come to meet you, to seek your face diligently, and I have found you.

16 I have decked my bed with coverings of tapestry, with wrought works of fine linen from Egypt;

17 I have perfumed my couch with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.

18 Come, let us satisfy ourselves with love until the morning; let us rejoice with love.

19 For the husband is not at home; he has gone on a long journey;

20 She took a bag of money in her hand; only on the appointed day will she return home.

21 She seduced him with the multitude of her words; with the flattering words of her lips she persuaded him.

22 And he followed her quickly, like an ox going to the slaughter, or like a madman to the punishment of the prison;

23 Until the arrow pierces his liver, like a bird rushing to the snare, unaware that it is there for his life.

24 Now therefore, my children, listen to me and pay attention to the words of my mouth:

25 Do not let your heart turn aside to her ways, and do not wander in her paths.

26 For she has cast down many wounded, and very many have been slain by her.

27 Her house is the ways of the grave, going down to the chambers of death.

9 No crepúsculo, à tarde do dia, na escuridão e trevas da noite.

20 Um saquitel de dinheiro levou na sua mão: só no dia marcado voltará à casa.

21 Seduziu-o com a multidão das suas palavras, com as lisonjas dos seus lábios o persuadiu.

22 E ele segue-a logo, como boi que vai ao matadouro, e como louco ao castigo das prisões;

23 Até que a flecha lhe atravesse o fígado, como a ave, que se apressa para o laço, e não sabe que ele está ali contra a sua vida.

24 Agora pois, filhos, dai-me ouvidos, e estai atentos às palavras da minha boca:

25 Não se desvie para os seus caminhos o teu coração, e não andes perdido nas suas veredas;

26 Porque a muitos feridos derrubou: e são muitíssimos os que por ela foram mortos.

21 इन्हें अपने हृदय में सदा बान्धे रख, और अपने गले में लटकाए रह।

22 जब तू चले, तब यह तुझे मार्ग दिखाएगा; जब तू लेटेगा, तब यह तेरी रक्षा करेगा; जब तू जागेगा, तब यह तुझ से बातें करेगा।

23 क्योंकि आज्ञा दीपक है, और व्यवस्था ज्योति; और शिक्षा की डाँट जीवन का मार्ग है,

24 कि वे तुझे दुष्ट स्त्री से और पराई स्त्री की चापलूसी भरी बातों से बचाएँ।

25 अपने मन में उसकी सुन्दरता की अभिलाषा न कर, और न उसकी आँखों पर मोहित हो।

29 ऐसा ही उस व्यक्ति के साथ भी है जो अपने पड़ोसी की पत्नी के पास जाता है: जो कोई उसे छूता है, वह दण्ड से न बचेगा।

30 जब चोर अपनी भूख मिटाने के लिए चोरी करता है, तो उसकी निंदा नहीं की जाती;

31 परन्तु जब वह उसे पा लेता है, तो उसे सात गुना भर देना पड़ता है; वह अपने घर का सारा माल दे देता है।

32 जो स्त्री के साथ व्यभिचार करता है, वह नासमझ है; जो ऐसा करता है, वह अपनी आत्मा को नष्ट करता है।

33 वह दण्ड और अपमान पाएगा, और उसका कलंक कभी न मिटेगा।

20 My son, keep your father's commandment, and do not forsake your mother's law.

21 Bind them continually upon your heart, and hang them about your neck.

22 When you walk, it will guide you; when you lie down, it will guard you; when you awake, it will speak to you.

23 For the commandment is a lamp, and the law a light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life,

24 To keep you from the evil woman, and from the flattering tongue of a strange woman.

25 Do not lust in your heart after her beauty, nor be captivated by her eyes.

26 For because of a prostitute, men come near to ask a morsel of bread; and an adulteress preys on the precious life.

 27 Can a man take fire into his bosom, and his clothes not be burned?

28 Or can a man walk on hot coals, and his feet not be burned?

29 So it is with anyone who goes in to his neighbor's wife: no one who touches her will go unpunished.

30 A thief is not reviled when he steals to satisfy his hunger;

31 But when he finds it, he will repay sevenfold; he will give all the goods of his household.

32 He who commits adultery with a woman lacks understanding; he who does it destroys his own soul.

33 He will find punishment and dishonor, and his reproach will never be wiped away.

34 For a husband's jealousy is furious, and he will not spare in the day of vengeance.

35 He will accept no ransom, nor will he consent, even if you give many gifts.

22 Quando caminhares, isso te guiará; quando te deitares, te guardará; quando acordares, falará contigo.

23 Porque o mandamento é uma lâmpada, e a lei uma luz: e as repreensões da correção são o caminho da vida,

24 Para te guardarem da má mulher, e das lisonjas da língua estranha.

25 Não cobices no teu coração a sua formosura, nem te prendas com os seus olhos.

26 Porque por causa duma mulher prostituta se achega pedir um bocado de pão; e a adúltera anda à caça de preciosa vida.

27 Tomará alguém fogo no seu seio, sem que os seus vestidos se queimem?

28 Ou andará alguém sobre as brasas, sem que se queimem os seus pés?

29 Assim será o que entrar à mulher do seu próximo: Não ficará inocente todo aquele que a tocar.

30 Não se injuria o ladrão, quando furta para saciar a sua alma, tendo fome;

31 Mas encontrando, pagará sete vezes tanto: dará toda a fazenda de sua casa.

32 O que adultera com uma mulher é falto de entendimento; destrói a sua alma o que tal faz.

33 Achará castigo e vilipêndio, e o seu opróbrio nunca se apagará.

34 Porque furioso é o ciúme do marido, e de maneira nenhuma perdoará no dia da vingança.

2 तू अपने मुँह के वचनों से फँस गया है; तू अपने मुँह के वचनों से फँस गया है।

3 अब, हे मेरे पुत्र, ऐसा कर और अपने आप को बचा, क्योंकि तू अपने पड़ोसी के हाथ में पड़ गया है। जा, दीन हो जा, और अपने पड़ोसी के लिए कष्ट बन।

4 अपनी आँखों को नींद न आने दे, न अपनी पलकों को ऊंघने दे।

5 अपने आप को हिरन की नाईं शिकारी के हाथ से, और पक्षी की नाईं बहेलिये के हाथ से बचा।

6 हे आलसी, च्यूंटियों के पास जा; उनके काम पर ध्यान दे, और बुद्धिमान हो;

A Warning Against Being a Surety, Laziness, and Evil

1 My son, if you have become surety for your neighbor, if you have lent your hand to a stranger,

2 You are snared by the words of your mouth; you are taken by the words of your mouth.

3 Now therefore, my son, do this and deliver yourself, for you have fallen into the hand of your neighbor. Go, humble yourself, and be a pest to your neighbor.

4 Do not give sleep to your eyes, nor slumber to your eyelids.

5 Deliver yourself as a gazelle from the hand of the hunter, or as a bird from the hand of the fowler.

6 Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise;

7 Which having no superior, officer, or ruler,

8 Provides her bread in the summer; gathers her food in the harvest. 

9 Oh, you sluggard, how long will you lie down? When will you arise from your sleep?

10 A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to lie down;

11 So poverty will come upon you like a thief, and want like an armed man.

12 A worthless man, a wicked man, walks with perverse speech.

13 He winks with his eyes, speaks with his feet, points with his fingers.

14 Perverseness is in his heart; he continually devises mischief; he sows discord.

15 Therefore his destruction will come suddenly; suddenly he will be broken without remedy.

16 These six things the Lord hates, yea, seven are an abomination to him:

17 Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood;

18 A heart that devises wicked schemes; feet that are swift in running to evil;

19 a false witness who speaks lies, and one who sows discord among brothers.
