26 And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,
27 How long shall I suffer this evil congregation, which murmureth against me? I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel, with which they murmur against me.
28 Say unto them, Thus I live, saith the Lord, that as ye have spoken in mine ears, so will I do unto you.
29 And your carcases shall fall in this wilderness, and all that were numbered of you twenty years and above, which were utterly murmured among you among you;
30 Do not go into the land where I lifted up my hand that would make you dwell there, save Caleb the son of Jephunneh and Joshua the son of Nun.
31 But your children, of whom ye say, They shall be a prey; and they shall know of the land which ye have despised.
32 But as for you, your carcasses shall fall in the wilderness.
33 And your children shall trespass in the wilderness forty years, and bear your infidelities, until your carcasses are consumed in the wilderness.
34 According to the number of days when you have spied out this land, forty days, for each day a year, you shall bear your iniquities forty years, and you shall know my apartment.
35 I, the Lord, have spoken: and so will I do to all this evil congregation, which has risen up against me; in this desert they will be consumed and there they will die.
36 And the men Moses commanded to spy out the land, and returned, and made all the congregation to murmur against him,
37 Those same men, who have defiled the land, have perished from the plague before the Lord.
38 And Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, who were of the men that went to spy out the land, were left alive.
39 And Moses spake these words unto all the children of Israel: and the people grieved greatly.
40 And they arose early in the morning, and went up the top of the mountain, saying, Lo, we are here, and we go up to the place which Jehovah hath spoken; because we have sinned.
41 And Moses said, Why do ye break the commandment of the LORD? for it shall not prosper.
42 Do not go up, for the Lord will not be among you, lest you be smitten before your enemies.
43 For the Amalekites and the Canaanites are there before you, and you shall fall by the sword; for because you have strayed from the Lord, the Lord will not be with you.
44 But they recklessly tried to go up to the top of the mountain: but the ark of the covenant of the Lord and Moses did not depart from the midst of the camp.
45 And the Ammonites, and the Canaanites, that dwelt in the hill country, came down, and smote them, and smote them to Hormah.

31 Mas os vossos filhos, de que dizeis: Por presa serão, meterei nela; e eles saberão da terra que vós desprezastes.
32 Porém, quanto a vós, os vossos cadáveres cairão neste deserto.
33 E vossos filhos patorearão neste deserto quarenta anos, e levarão sobre si as vossas infidelidades, até que os vossos cadáveres se consumam neste deserto.

39 E falou Moisés estas palavras a todos os filhos de Israel: então o povo contristou muito.
40 E levantaram-se pela manhã de madrugada, e subiram o cume do monte, dizendo: Eis-nos aqui, subiremos ao lugar que o Senhor tem dito; porquanto havemos pecado.
41 Mas Moisés disse: Por que quebrantais o mandado do Senhor? pois isso não prosperará.
42 Não subais, pois o Senhor não estará no meio de vós, para que não sejais feridos diante dos vossos inimigos.
43 Porque os amalequitas e os cananeus estão ali diante da vossa face, e caireis à espada: pois porquanto vos desviaste do Senhor, o Senhor não será convosco.
44 Contudo, temerariamente, tentaram subir ao cume do monte: mas a arca do concerto do Senhor e Moisés não se apartaram do meio do arraial.

2 And all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron; and all the congregation said unto him, Ah! if we had died in the land of Egypt! or, oh if we had died in the desert!
3 And why does the LORD bring us into this land, that we may fall by the sword, and that our wives and children may be a prey? Would it not be better for us to return to Egypt?
4 And they said one to another, Let us raise up a captain, and let us return to Egypt.

6 And Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, they that searched the land, tore their clothes.
7 And they spake unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, saying, The land by which we have come to spy is a very good land.
8 If the LORD delight in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it to us: a land flowing with milk and honey.
9 Only be ye not rebellious against Jehovah, and fear not the people of the land, for they are our bread: their beloved is departed from them, and Jehovah is with us; do not fear them.
10 And all the congregation said, that they should stone them with stones: but the glory of the LORD appeared in the tabernacle of the congregation unto all the children of Israel.
11 And the LORD said unto Moses, How long shall this people provoke me? and how long will they not believe me for all the signs that I have done among them?
12 I will smite him with pestilence, and reject him: and I will make thee a greater and mightier people than this.
13 And Moses said unto the LORD, Thus shall the Egyptians hear; for with thy strength didst thou bring up this people among them.
14 And they shall tell the inhabitants of this land, that they have heard that thou, O Lord, art in the midst of this people, that they appear face to face, O Lord, to appear unto them, that thy cloud is upon them, and that thou goest before them in a pillar of cloud by day, and in a pillar of fire by night.
15 And if you slay this people as one man, then the people, who have heard your fame, will speak, saying,
16 For the Lord could not put this people in the land which he had sworn to them; therefore he slew them in the wilderness.
17 Now therefore, I beseech thee, let the strength of my Lord be great; as you have spoken, saying,
18 The LORD is longsuffering and full of mercy, and he forgives iniquity and transgression, which the guilty person does not hold innocent, and visit the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generation.
19 Therefore forgive the iniquity of this people, according to the greatness of thy mercy: and as thou also hast forgiven this people from the land of Egypt unto this time.
20 And the LORD said, I have forgiven thee according to thy word.
21 But as surely as I live, the glory of the Lord shall fill the whole earth.
22 And all the men who saw my glory and my signs, which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and tempted me these ten times, and they obeyed not my voice.
23 They shall not see the land which I have sworn unto their fathers, neither shall any of them that provoke me see it.
24 But to my servant Caleb, because there is another spirit in him, and he hath followed me, I will bring him into the land where he went in, and his seed shall inherit it.
25 And the Amalekites, and the Canaanites, hailstorm in the valley: turn ye to morrow, and walk into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea.
The Israelites Want to Return to Egypt
1 And all the congregation arose, and lifted up their voice: and the people wept that night.
2 And all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron; and all the congregation said unto him, Ah! if we had died in the land of Egypt! or, oh if we had died in the desert!
3 And why does the LORD bring us into this land, that we may fall by the sword, and that our wives and children may be a prey? Would it not be better for us to return to Egypt?

5 Então Moisés e Arão caíram sobre os seus rostos perante todo o ajuntamento dos filhos de Israel.
6 E Josué, filho de Num, e Calebe, filho de Jefoné, dos que espiaram a terra, rasgaram os seus vestidos.
7 E falaram a toda congregação dos filhos de Israel, dizendo: A terra pelo meio da qual passamos a espiar é terra muito boa.
8 Se o Senhor se agradar de nós, então nos porá nesta terra, e no-la dará: terra que mana leite e mel.

13 E disse Moisés ao Senhor: Assim os egípcios o ouvirão; porquanto com a tua força fizeste subir este povo no meio deles.
14 E o dirão aos moradores desta terra, que ouviram que tu, ó Senhor, estás no meio deste povo, que de cara a cara, ó Senhor, lhes apareces, que tua nuvem está sobre eles, e que vais adiante deles numa coluna de nuvem de dia, e numa coluna de fogo a noite.
15 E se matares este povo como a um só homem, as gentes pois, que ouviram a tua fama, falarão, dizendo:
16 Porquanto o Senhor não podia pôr este povo na terra que lhes tinha jurado; por isso os matou no deserto.
17 Agora, pois rogo-te que a força do meu Senhor se engrandeça; como tens falado, dizendo:
18 O Senhor é longânimo, e grande em beneficência, que perdoa a iniqüidade e a transgressão, que o culpado não têm por inocente, e visita a iniqüidade dos pais sobre os filhos até à terceira e quarta geração.
19 Perdoa pois a iniqüidade deste povo, segundo a grandeza da tua benignidade: e como também perdoaste a este povo desde a terra do Egito até aqui.
20 E disse o Senhor: Conforme a tua palavra lhe perdoei.
21 Porém tão certamente como eu vivo, que a glória do Senhor encherá toda a terra.
22 E que todos os homens que viram a minha glória e os meus sinais, que fiz no Egito e no deserto, e me tentaram estas dez vezes, e não obedeceram à minha voz.
23 Não verão a terra de que a seus pais jurei, e até nenhum daqueles que me provocaram a verá.
24 Porém a meu servo Calebe, porquanto nele houve outro espírito, e perseverou em seguir-me, eu o levarei à terra em que entrou, e a sua semente a possuirá em herança.
25 E os amalequitas e os cananeus haitam no vale: tornai-vos amanhã, e caminhai para o deserto pelo caminho do Mar Vermelho.

1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
2 Send men to spy out the land of Canaan, which I will give to the children of Israel; out of every tribe of their fathers shall ye send a man, each one of them greater among them.
3 And Moses sent them out of the wilderness of Paran, according to the word of Jehovah; all these men were heads of the children of Israel.
4 And these are their names: of the tribe of Reuben, Shammua the son of Sachur;
5 Of the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat the son of Hori;
6 Of the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh.
7 Of the tribe of Issachar, Jigeal, the son of Joseph;
8 Of the tribe of Ephraim, Hoshea the son of Nun;
9 Of the tribe of Benjamin, Palti the son of Rafu;
10 Of the tribe of Zebulun Gadiel the son of Sodi.
11 Of the tribe of Joseph, by the tribe of Manasseh, Gaddi the son of Susi;

18 And see what the earth is, and the people that dwell therein; whether it is strong or weak; whether little or too much;
19 And what is the land wherein he dwells, whether good or bad: and the cities wherein he dwelleth, whether ye are in camp, or in strongholds.
20 Also the land, whether it be thick or thin, whether there be trees in it, or not: be strong, and take of the fruit of the ground. And those days were the days of the pricings of the grapes.
21 And they went up, and spied the land from the wilderness of Zin, unto Rehob, at the entrance of Hamath.
22 And they went up to the south, and came to Hebron; and Ahiman, and Sheshai, and Talmai, the sons of Enak: and Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.
23 And they came to the valley of Eshcol, and they cut down a branch of the vine with a cluster of grapes, and brought two men upon a vine: as also pomegranates and figs.
24 And they called that place the valley of Eshcol, because of the cluster that the children of Israel cut down from thence.
25 And they returned from spying out the land after forty days.
26 And they went and came to Moses and Aaron, and to all the congregation of the children of Israel, in the wilderness of Paran, unto Kadesh, and returned, and told them, and all the congregation, and showed them the fruit from the earth.
27 And they told him, and said, We went to the land to which you sent us; and truly manna milk and honey, and this is the fruit.
28 But the people that dwell in the land are mighty, and the cities mighty and mighty; and there also we saw the sons of Enak.
29 The Amalekites dwell in the land of the south; and the Hittites, and the Jebusites, and the Amorites, dwell in the mountain: and the Canaanites dwell by the sea, and by the river Jordan.
30 And Caleb shut the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up in the land, and inherit it: for we will surely prevail against it.
31 And the men that went up with him said, We can not go up against the people, for they are stronger than we.
32 And they defiled the land which they had spied before the children of Israel, saying, The land by which we are spying is the land that consumeth the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in the midst of them are men of great stature.
33 And we saw there giants, sons of the anak, descendants of the giants: and we were before our eyes like locusts, even so we were in their sight.
Twelve men are sent to spy out the land of Canaan
1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
2 Send men to spy out the land of Canaan, which I will give to the children of Israel; out of every tribe of their fathers shall ye send a man, each one of them greater among them.
3 And Moses sent them out of the wilderness of Paran, according to the word of Jehovah; all these men were heads of the children of Israel.
4 And these are their names: of the tribe of Reuben, Shammua the son of Sachur;
5 Of the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat the son of Hori;
6 Of the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh.
7 Of the tribe of Issachar, Jigeal, the son of Joseph;
8 Of the tribe of Ephraim, Hoshea the son of Nun;
9 Of the tribe of Benjamin, Palti the son of Rafu;
10 Of the tribe of Zebulun Gadiel the son of Sodi.
11 Of the tribe of Joseph, by the tribe of Manasseh, Gaddi the son of Susi;
12 Of the tribe of Dan, Ammiel, the son of Gamali;
13 Of the tribe of Asher, Sethur the son of Michael;
14 Of the tribe of Naphtali, Nabi the son of Vofsi;
15 Of the tribe of Gad, Guel the son of Mahch.
16 These are the names of the men whom Moses sent to spy out the land: and unto Hoshea the son of Nun Moses called Joshua.

20 Também qual é a terra, se grossa ou magra: se nela há árvores, ou não: esforçai-vos, e tomai do fruto da terra. E eram aqueles dias os dias das prímicias das uvas.
21 Assim subiram, e espiaram a terra desde o deserto de zim, até Reobe, à entrada de Hamate.
22 E subiram para a banda do sul, e vieram até Hebron; e estavam ali Aimã, Sesai, e Talmai, filhos de Enaque: e Hebrom foi edificada sete anos antes de Zoã no Egito.
23 Depois vieram até o vale de Escol, e dali cortaram um ramo de vide com um cacho de uvas, o qual trouxerm dois homens sobre uma verga: como também romãs e figos.
24 Chamaram aquele lugar o vale de Escol, por causa do cacho que dali cortaram os filhos de Israel.
25 Depois voltaram de espiar a terra, ao fim de quarenta dias.
26 E caminharam, e vieram a Moisés e a Arão, e a toda congregação dos filhos de Israel no deserto de Parã, a Cades, e, tornando, deram-lhes conta a eles, e a toda congregação, e mostraram-lhes o fruto da terra.
27 E contaram-lhe, e disseram: Fomos à terra a que nos enviaste; e verdadeiramente mana leite e mel, e este é o fruto.
28 O povo porém que habita nessa terra é poderoso, e as cidades forte e mui grandes; e também ali vimos os filhos de Enaque.
29 Os amalequitas habitam na terra do sul; e os heteus, e os jebuseus, e os amorreus habita na montanha: e os cananeus habitam ao pé do mar, e pela ribeira do Jordão.
30 Então Calebe fez calar o povo perante Moisés, e disse: Subamos aminosamente, e possuamo-la em herança: porque certamente prevaleceremos contra ela.
31 Porém os homens que com ele subiram disseram: Não poderemos subir contra aquele povo, porque é mais forte do que nós.
32 E infamaram a terra, que tinham espiado, perante os filhos de Israel, dizendo: A terra, pelo meio da qual passamos a espiar, é terra que consome os seus moradores; e todo o povo que vimos no meio dela são homens de grande estatura.
33 Também vimos ali gigantes, filhos de enaque, descendentes dos gigantes: e éramos aos nossos olhos como gafanhotos, assim também éramos aos seus olhos.

7 Not so is my servant Moses, who is faithful in all my house.
8 I speak to him by mouth, and by sight, and not by figures; for he hath seen the likeness of the LORD: why then hast thou not been afraid to speak against my servant, even against Moses?
9 And the anger of Jehovah was kindled against them; and was gone.
10 And the cloud turned from off the tent; and, behold, Miriam was leprous as snow: and Aaron looked at Miriam, and behold, he was leprous.
11 And Aaron said to Moses, "Ah! my lord, and do not put this sin upon us, which we have done madly, and with which we have sinned.
12 Let it not be as a dead man, that cometh out of the womb of his mother, half of his flesh already consumed.
13 And Moses cried unto the LORD, saying, O God, I beseech thee to bury her.
14 And the LORD said unto Moses, If your father spit in your face, would you not be ashamed seven days? be shut up seven days outside the camp, and then gather it.
15 And Miriam was shut out of the camp seven days, and the people departed not until they had gathered Miriam.
16 And afterward the people departed from Hazeroth; and settled the camp in the wilderness of Paran.

2 E disseram: Porventura falou o Senhor somente por Moisés? não falou também por nós? E o Senhor o ouviu.
3 E era o varão Moisés mui manso, mais do que todos os homens que havia sobre a terra.
4 E logo o Senhor disse a Moisés, e a Arão, e a Miriã: Vós três saí à tenda da congregação. E saíram eles três.
5 Então o Senhor desceu na coluna da nuvem, e se pôs à porta da tenda: depois chamou a Arão e a Miriã, e eles saíram ambos.
6 E disse: Ouvi agora as minhas palavras; se entre vós houver profeta, eu, o Senhor, em visão a ele me farei conhecer, ou em sonhos falarei com ele.
7 Não é assim com o meu servo Moisés que é fiel em toda a minha casa.
8 Boca a boca falo com ele, e de vista, e não por figuras; pois, ele vê a semelhança do Senhor: por que pois não tiveste temor de falar contra o meu servo, contra Moisés?
9 Assim a ira do Senhor contra eles se acendeu; e foi-se.
10 E a nuvem se desviou de sobre a tenda; e eis que Miriã era leprosa como a neve: e olhou Arão para Miriã, e eis que era leprosa.
11 Pelo que arão disse a Moisés: Ah! senhor meu, ora não ponhas sobre nós este pecado, que fizemos loucamente, e com que havemos pecado.
12 Ora não seja ela como um morto, que saindo do ventre de sua mãe, tenha metade de sua carne já consumida.
13 Clamou pois Moisés ao Senhor, dizendo: Ó Deus, rogo-te que a cures.
14 E disse o Senhor a Moisés: Se seu pai cuspira em seu rosto, não seria envergonhada sete dias? esteja fechada sete dias fora do arraial, e depois a recolham.
15 Assim Miriã esteve fechada fora do arraial sete dias, e o povo não partiu, até que recolheram a Miriã.

11 And Moses said unto the LORD, Why hast thou afflicted thy servant, and why have I not found favor in thine eyes, that thou shouldest appoint the charge of all this people?
12 Have I conceived all this people? I gave it to you so that you would say to me, "Take him into your lap, as an aio carries what he creates, to the land which you swore to his parents."
13 Wherefore should I have flesh to give to all this people? because they weep against me, saying, Give us flesh to eat:
14 I just can not take all this people, because too heavy is for me.
15 And if you do this to me, kill me, I ask you, if I have found grace in your eyes; and do not let me see my evil.

1 And it came to pass, when the people complained, that it was evil in the ears of the Lord; for the LORD heard him, and his anger was kindled, and the fire of the Lord burned among them, and consumed them that were in the last part of the camp.
2 And the people cried unto Moses, and Moses prayed unto the LORD, and the fire was quenched.
3 And the name of the place Tabera, because the fire of Jehovah was kindled among them.
4 And the multitude that was in the midst of them, had a great desire: and the children of Israel wept again, and said, Who shall give us flesh to eat?
5 We remember the fish we ate in Egypt for free; and cucumbers, and melons, and pores, and onions, and garlic.
6 But now our soul is dried up; There is nothing there but this manna before our eyes.
7 And the manna was as a seed of coriander, and its color was like the color of bdhelium.
8 And the people were scattered, and he gathered them, and he put them in mills, or gral him with grains: and he baked it in pans, and made cakes of it: and the taste thereof was as the taste of fresh oil.
9 And when the dew came down by night upon the camp, the manna came down upon him.
10 And Moses heard the people mourn for their families, every one at the door of his tent: and the anger of the LORD was greatly kindled, and it was evil in the sight of Moses.
